@quilteryoyo yea, I already downgraded a planned 50k to the 25…..
@martaindale know how you feel. Trust you will get better soon
@Laurz9191 good luck this Sunday!
@tarun_yadavA nice one
We're still having winter here, yesterday had a snowfall warning though not a lot came down here. Heard just a bit north got hammered. Trail run time will be limited, still having to use microspikes for a while.

I was thinking yesterday. Doing a cross training workout at Wednesdays, which I only have time to do after 9pm, isn't really a good idea, when I need to be in bed by 10pm.
For the first time since I started running, almost 11 years ago, (though not consistent at all!), I am switching my cross-training day to Tuesday and running on Wednesday.
My weeks will now be:
Sunday - rest day, maybe a walk, light cross training
Monday - run day
Tuesday - cross-training day
Wednesday - run day
Thursday - run day
Friday - rest, maybe a walk, light cross training
Saturday - long run. This Saturday will be 8km and I want to build up every Saturday so by mid- July I can run a half marathon (I have a 5km race on weekend in Saturday, and vacation where I am actually going away in June)8 -
I hope you have great weather, and lot's of support. It seems like you have been spot on with your training. I'm excited to see how it goes. Enjoy your taper.

April 2025 Running
April 2 - 5km!!!!
FIVE!!! Not four but FIVE!!!!! I cannot remember the last time I did 5km on my lunch break!!! I have been so slow and doing so much walking with my running, I haven't been able to and could only do 4km. I am so excited incase you can't tell by my smile. (and my hair gives an indication of how windy it was, and it was a COLD wind!)
I thought winter was done. Apparently it's not. They are calling for up to 5cm tomorrow mixed with ice pellets. I am first of going to have to get my winter boots back out and then just watch the weather to see how things look to know if I can. Maybe I will just did my spikes back out so I can go running at lunch!

01/04 2.86 miles
02/04 3.02 milesTotal 5.88 / 70 miles
My legs felt ready tired but I don’t want to take a rest day until Sunday and the weather is still really good. It didn’t help I did 7 miles on my bike just before. Some days are like that though so might feel fresh tomorrow 😅
8 -
Smart @WarmJellyfish . We're having yoyo Spring here. It's supposed to be record highs tomorrow through Sat and then lows in the 20's with high's in the 50's. It's so hard when the swings are that big.
Sounds like a good plan @angf0679 . Congrats on your 5K!!!! Awesome!
Congrats on your 7K @yirara ! You are doing great.
@Mari33a My legs would be really tired after 7 miles on the bike too! You are amazing.

April:
01/04 - 7.10K / 4.41 miles
02/04 - 7.27K / 4.52 miles
Today's treadmill run felt pretty good, I think seeing the snowstorm, with high winds, out the window really makes me appreciate not being out in it!Total = 14.37K / 8.93 miles (Goal - 161K / 100 miles)

1 April - Walk 1.50 miles - Run 3.10 miles - Treadmill - Gym 24m56s - arm day
2 April - Walk 1.70 miles - Run 2.60 miles - Treadmill - Gym 29m17s - leg day8.90/80.00 goal
Went to the gym this morning. I walked half mile pre and post workout. Leg day - bench pressed a little more than I have been. Went up to 105# for 2 sets of 10 reps. The first two sets were at 45# and 95#. Also did the glute machine, back extensions, adductors, and lunges.
After I got home, I did my treadmill wun. Since my legs were a bit tired, I took it a bit easier and did a run/walk of 2/1 min. Max pace was 6.0 mph. Avg pace was 12:28 min/mile with an avg HR of 125 and a max of 153 bpm.

April Goal: 140 miles
4/1: 6.25 miles
4/2: 6.05 miles12.30/140 miles completed for April
I am in for 140 miles for April. It looks like everyone is off to a great start.
I didn't post yesterday, so I am posting 2 runs today. Yesterday I ran a 6.25 mile interval run. It was 57F and a little windy, but not too bad. I thought I did pretty good and hit the interval paces, but Garmin didn't think I did as good as I thought. I'm still "maintaining" though, so I guess that's all right.
I didn't sleep well last night and was really tired this morning. So I just ran an easy 6 miles. It was hot, 75F, and felt really hot and humid. I started out pretty slow, but did pick up the pace as I went. It started raining on me after about 3 miles. It was pretty light rain though and it cooled things off some. It was weird though because it was dark when I started out and it was starting to lighten up some when a dark cloud moved in. There wasn't any lightning or heavy winds though. It was almost like running through a water sprinkler.
7 -
Great start for the month @kgirlhart . Glad the rain was light and refreshing.
2 -
Morning all
Got in 5.5M at 10'23.
7 -
The snow isn't to start until noon. The ice pellets much later and then turning to rain which should take away the snow that is to come! I am going to be fine to go run at noon. I doubt I will get 5km today. I need to work on my hills as I struggle to get up them (and I live on one!). There is a side street off the street I normally stay on, that has a hill, levels off, another hill, levels off…. I am going to try that street today.
7 -
@angf0679 Have a nice run! Good luck with your hills and weather conditions.
I had a 30 minute run planned today, but extended slightly to make it 5km. It is getting really beautiful outside now. Spring is truly coming. My legs were very stiff at the beginning, bit loosened up after about 10 minutes. I spent a long time stretching afterwards and will use my foam roller tonight.
16.5/300km for April.
6 -
Good luck with the hills @angf0679 . I have trouble with hills also. We probably all do. I hope you beat the bad weather.
Nice run @Laurz9191 and @tarun_yadavA .

April:
01/04 - 7.10 kilometres / 4.41 miles Treadmill
02/04 - 7.27 kilometres / 4.52 miles Treadmill
03/04 - 10.06 kilometres / 6.25 miles Outside!!🤸♂️
Beautiful day for a run outside (about 18⁰C/65⁰F) through the city, to some recreation/ravine trails that I always enjoy.
Now, yesterday, we had a snowstorm, followed by freezing rain, followed by rain, followed by thunderstorms through the night & I woke up this morning to rain, then fog & heard on the radio this morning about the number of flooded streets throughout the city. So, once the heavy winds blew away the fog & the sun came out, the temperature rose to the highest it's been yet & I threw on some shorts & a t-shirt then happily set out for a run.
One problem with that trail I like, it follows a river, so can flood and may have a mud-slide or two.
No floods today, but I wiped out trying to run through the 1st mud slide covering the trail at about 7km into my run.Managed to keep my noggin from bouncing off the trail, but ripped a good layer of skin off my left side (arm/chest/leg) and may have dislocated a finger on my right hand.
Got up, walked slowly (after stopping my watch, lol) to the next dry area and tried to get off most of the mud, though I failed at that. No real easy exit from a middle of a trail, so set off again running.Saw a couple of hikers heading the opposite way & gave them a heads up about the mud slide ahead (with a some laughing as I was covered in mud as I mentioned there was a mudslide ahead for them to traverse) & several kindly warned me about the next ones that I'd be running to ahead as well.
Four more mud slides covering the trail that I had to negotiate, but this time, I stopped my watch and slowly made my way through, while holding on to tree branches while my feet were slip-sliding around. Managed to stay vertical through them all. Bonus to me.
As I was slowly negotiating the fifth and final mud slide a young hiker was coming the opposite way, she stopped when she saw me and turned around. I assumed it was because she look at the lengthy mud slide and realized it likely wasn't worth slogging through. When I finally got home, it may have been the look of this old runner, heading in her direction, that was covered in mud & blood😂
Total = 24.43km / 15.18 miles (Goal - 161K / 100 miles)

Nice @angf0679 . As for the picture. Once you load it, click on the icon with the slanted arrow and you can make it smaller.
@Mari33a Great job doing what you could.
@John772016 Great running and funny story. I can imagine that the young girl was a bit skittish about your appearance if she was alone. Seriously though, I hope you are okay and aren't too sore tomorrow from all of that. (Of course you turned your watch off first. 🤣)

1 April - Walk 1.50 miles - Run 3.10 miles - Treadmill - Gym 24m56s - arm day
2 April - Walk 1.70 miles - Run 2.60 miles - Treadmill - Gym 29m17s - leg day
3 April - Walk 2.85 miles - Run 0.25 miles - Driveway - Push mow 17m44s12.00/80.00 goal
I wasn't feeling the best this morning and knew that mowing mom's lawn was in my future plans, so I decided on a nice, slow, easy wun on the driveway. It was slow enough, that I am counting it as a walk. BUT, I did decide to run a quarter mile at a decent pace. I wasn't sprinting, but did push it a bit and wound up with a pace was 10:12 min/mile! Not bad. AND, the weird thing is that, overall, I started feeling a whole lot better after that speedy quarter.
The grass was wet, so we had to wait until about 2 to mow. By that time, it was 88F (31.1C). I was very thankful that it did get cloudier and the wind was blowing. It would have been miserable, otherwise. Fast forward a week and they are expecting it to be 29F (-1.7C) for a low and only 50F (10C) for the high. Ahh Spring. We love you, but wish you would ease into a temperature and stay there.

April Goal: 140 miles
4/1: 6.25 miles
4/2: 6.05 miles
4/3: 2.51 miles14.81/140 miles completed for April
There were thunderstorms this morning, so I did not get to run. I did get out at lunch and run though. I was very speedy with an average pace of 9:31. I wanted to at least run a 5K, but I just didn't have enough time. I did get a 2.5 mile run in though, so I was glad I was able to get something especially since the new shoes I ordered came in yesterday.
7 -
Wow - this month has been a struggle so far. Not sure why but I have backed off my mileage some. @kgirlhart love the shoe porn. And why are my lunch time runs always SO MUCH faster. I know some of it is shorter distance but I have to think it is also the GPS. Esp when it is a known route.
@tarun_yadavA looks like you are starting the month off really well! And even still going to the gym a couple times a week for x training… Nicely done recovering.
@quilteryoyo I don't know HOW you get so much done in a single day and still have time to post. LOL. My neighbor mowed my front lawn yesterday in atonement I think for leaving his music playing so loudly on Wed night that I could not sleep. And my stupid Bose earphones were not charged (which is my usual fix).
We are supposed to get storms and cooler weather again the next few days. I did run and play tennis yesterday but the past few weeks my game has been off. A lot of unforced errors and poor footwork on my part. <shrug> but happy to get out there and play.
7 -
Great speedy run @kgirlhart ! Love the shoe porn.
Thanks @SummerSkier . I'm glad your neighbor mowed part of your lawn . That was a nice peace offering. Sorry your tennis has been off. Hopefully, the next time you play you'll look like a pro. Just try to not let it get in your head. That's usually what happens to me. I am my own worst critic.
1 -
Zero day yesterday. Legs were sore. That's what happens after 2.5 months off. Adding to the shoe porn. New Hokas! Testing them out this evening.

1.04 miles at 13'44"
I drove to a small park near my home. I am going to see if it is possible to get a 5k course out of it and then create "Parkrun San Diego"
(Maybe)

Yesterday would have been a good day to order new shoes. ;)

April total: 4.7/100 miles
YTD: 245.9 miles
4/1: 3.2 miles
4/2: 1.5 miles
Forgot to post this run. I did my usual prework 3 mile route but only ran the first half. I was starting to feel tired by that point and the coughing was getting worse, so I stuck with the plan to walk the rest back to my house. Following this less intense exercise I had a very busy and on my feet day at work. I was wiped out by the end of the day. I realize now that the amount I am usually able to sit during the day was covering up my fatigue somewhat.
Yesterday was an unplanned rest day. I had too much work to get done in the morning before I started a several hour training so had to skip my morning walk. After I was done I decided to go to the hill country house for a long weekend since I don’t have to be back in clinic until Tuesday. Funny story. When we are gone, we turn the water to the house off at the street meter, which is in the ground with a round plastic cover. When I got here last night it was just getting dark, I pulled into the driveway and went to turn the water on. There was a large and very scary looking spider in the water access with an abundant web! Looking past it, it looked like my husband forgot to turn the water off when he was here last so I left the access open (no way was I sticking my hand down there again!) and went up to the house. Luckily, the water was on and I was able to avoid dealing with what I think is a big wolf spider, not harmful but I’m not keen on handling it. So, if a line leaked our house could have flooded but I didn’t have to deal with the spider. Honestly, seems like a fair trade off.
This morning I planned to do another 1.5 mile run then decide to continue or walk based on how I was feeling. But, I already felt so tired this morning with more chest tightness than the last couple of days. Then, walking up the first hill winded me to such a degree that I knew running wasn’t in the cards. So I switched to a walk, ended up going 3.6 miles. Each hill was very hard, but I haven’t done the hills in a while and there is usually a bit of adjustment period. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I’m over this mess and ready to start feeling better.
4 -
@WarmJellyfish Thanks. I know you have your own stuff going on and I appreciate the encouragement. I am struggling. I got COVID a year ago and still had not fully recovered before getting the flu and getting knocked back down. I was already working on the mental adjustment of what running was going to look like for me moving forward and now I can’t really run at all again. I know plenty of folks are dealing with worse symptoms than I have and may have been doing this longer than I, but I’m so over it! It feels like my body has betrayed me to a certain extent. Like, I eat well, I exercise, I do all the things you are supposed to do. I guess I’m having a bit of a pity party. It’s not helped by the fact that my job is maybe at its most stressful point ever right now. I am burned out and probably taking these struggles harder as a whole than I would take them if they were happening separately. I just really want something, anything to get back to normal!
Ok, done with the pity party for now. It helps to actually say it to someone and not just sitting in my struggles. I am trying desperately to find things to enjoy. Tomorrow I am planning a trip to a local state park to maybe try a tiny run again and go for a hike in the woods. That will be nice and a change of scenery.

@chris_in_cal Keep us posted on maybe Parkrun San Diego!
@angf0679 Great work on the small mountain! And on the 5k! You’re doing great. Keep it up!
@kgirlhart Sounds lovely. You know how I feel about sprinklers!!

So basically, I did a workout every single day for 31 days straight. No idea how my body coped, but it did. So now I will add more rest days. And from the next run onward I will delete the march stuff again.
I was so gutted that I basically gave up on 31.3 because I didn't want to fail. And hence I did the same again today and did get to the magical 5km, at the overall pace I set myself to achieve: 7:30min/km Yeah, it's slow compared to many, but it's super difficult for me simply due to how my muscles work. And I made it. The last 300m were super tough though, but I know I can still run 5km at this pace.5
