My son called last evening and he sounds good. He says he is going to stay as long as they keep him. I hope so, so he can work the whole program.
These are the shoes I ordered, I do hope they fit nice and last a long time, 2 years I hope!
it’s been raining here for 3 days straight! Today we have snow flurries! I’m amazed. Not typical for this area. Snow won’t stick but cool to see it snowing.
Thought for today: Want to know why nurses like red crayons?
They sometimes have to draw blood! 🩸💉

Vicki - I am thrilled for you. That really does sound like an ideal job. 😃 As Lisa mentioned, the benefits with government jobs are usually very good.
Lisa - Happy Birthday! 😍
Rita - those Hoka's look nice. Is the sizing comparable to what you were wearing in other makes of shoes? (I realize perhaps you haven't gotten them yet. Please let us know.)
Carol - I loved your comment "people didn't recognize the young woman I felt to be inside." I have felt the same way, tho these days I tend to feel older than I am as well, lol. I'm chalking it up to winter. Summer should rejuvenate us! Yes, your mother looked very young. I was pretty much grayed out by the time I was 60 it seems. Though I never realized THAT until I ran into someone around that time who said she didn't recognize me - "that white haired lady." I have have made it a point to not run into her ever since! 😁
Barbara - sorry about the water situation but at least you guys have discovered a way to work with it until it's 100% back up to par. Are you able to do any of the BB&B exercises at home since the instructor is leaving?
As the algorithm would have it, a Peter Attia interview with Belinda Beck came up in my YouTube feed yesterday. Remember the Strong Women Stay Young (SWSY) program many of us were doing several years ago? It was based on research with elderly women who showed a lot of benefits from doing simple strength training exercises using free weights and ankle weights.
Dr. Beck took it up a notch utilizing some heavy weight training focusing on bone health for older folks who also have osteoporosis. It was called the "Liftmor" trial. I'm still wading through it, but here are a couple links with interviews giving more info about it.
Peter Attia/Belinda Beck (22 minutes)
Dr. Doug Lucas/Belinda Beck (31 minutes)
It's important to note that these exercises must be done under supervision. They emphasize "don't do this at home" until we know what we're doing.
I have many more PT sessions scheduled, not sure what all they have planned but I'm hoping to get some tips on doing strength training safely. I did see a much younger gal doing deadlifts while I was at the clinic last week. We'll see.
I'm curious if the results of Beck's training model really vary that much from the Better Bones & Balance program. Another rabbit hole for when the rain returns tomorrow.
I was able to get 95% of the mowing done yesterday and some weed eating. Another rather overcast but still warm and dry day today. So back at it this afternoon.
Make it a wonderful weekend ladies!

Heather,
I have visions of you in a paint splattered apron, a canvas in front of you gigantic and colors are literally popping out all over. You are grinning and saying hi to the camera, acrylic paint happily dripping from your fingertips.💖👍🏼

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA !!! 🎂 😊 😃
Oh yes, the fives. The next decade is suddenly looming up - in my case, 80. I have resigned myself to the thought that my time on this earth is inevitably limited, even if I do manage to live longer than average. For some reason, it doesn't worry me as much as it used to. I feel I have lived so well in the last several years, and accomplished such a lot of what I set out to do with my life, that it won't be a tragedy when it ends. I contemplate my end often.
Anyway, I hope you have a long and happy life 💖 ✨️ 💗

Happy Birthday Lisa!!!
Congrats on the job Vicki. Hope it works out well for you.
Warm, kind of hazy day here. Planning to get some yardwork done today. So far the the slugs have not found my marigolds and the deer have not found the pansies. One of the horses was eating on the weeping cherry though yesterday. Oh well the blueberries are budding and we still have frozen berries from last year. I think there may be a blueberry crisp in our future.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

No problems for me with the storms-it seems they went just north of us or just south. I woke up once the first night to a rumble of thunder but went right back to sleep. Flooding is starting in some areas-Columbus and Dayton for sure-hope Kylia is on high ground! My house is on one of the highest points in the county but on the way home yesterday I saw yards on the downhill with new ponds.
Vicki -congratulations on the job!
Kylia - you may get your monies worth out of back up system this year-it is crazy so far.
Lisa - hope you have had a good day!
Rita - never give up on your son-stay to see the miracle.
Rebecca - so happy for you that your son will at least be Stateside. I hope they get him on the right treatment plan.
Have got quite a bit of stuff sorted and cleared up in preparation for surgery. Have plenty of provisions in so won't have to have anyone get groceries for me (depending upon how long I am limited to 5 lb carry limit). That decision is a couple of weeks away so I will worry about it then.
Tomorrow I will get litter boxes cleaned. I am putting litter inside a trashcan so I can scoop some into boxes as needed. DIL can't mess with that for me due to pregnancy. I'm sure my brother will come over if I send up a smoke signal. Need to get some stuff straightened up in basement. I have contracted with a young man to paint the walls down there, put tile up in shower stall and put down a vinyl plank floor. Some people tell me not to do anything before selling but it is work that needs done. I have enough tile left from when we did upstairs. The old 50s tile on the floor was not placed under the bar and cabinet I took out. I'm doing what I think is the right thing to do, but it is being done to the degree I would do it if I were staying here for several years.
Need to get a work out in and some walking (in the house-not going out in rain). Zoom with friends at 6.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

😀 Today was a beautiful day perfect for working in the yard. Annie liked being out there, too, but her contribution was to dig while I was pulling weeds. I had to go back and sweep dirt into the holes she had dug. Even so, I made some good progress. It is likely to be raining for a week staring tomorrow so I'm glad to have gotten things done today.
😀 Vicki, the people who hired you are going to be blown away by your skills and work ethic. They are so fortunate to have found you.
😥 Barbara, your water situation sounds so frustrating.
🎂 Birthdays, My mother started lying about her age long before I was born as did her mother and aunt before her. When I started taking care of her finances, I found out that she should have started taking distributions from her IRA sooner than she did but because she had come to believe the fake age, she didn't realize that it was time. She paid some penalties. Shortly before we thought she was turning 70 she said that she was finished with birthdays so no one acknowledged the birthday. She was seriously disappointed that she had been ignored. After she died, I noticed that many of her photos had the dates altered.

Exhausted. Middle son and I walked nearly 16,000 steps today, but it was glorious out. Picked up local honey and salmon spread from the Saturday market. Ate Korean for lunch, the kimchi cucumbers were amazing. Walked back to the car to put our food in an insulated bag, then headed to Riverfront Park for our walk. Since the walking in Seattle, my left knee has been bothering me, so this gave us a nice flat walk. It was wonderful to spend some good time with him. But tired to my core.

Thank you all for the good wishes on the job. I admit I was getting pretty depressed. So looking forward to doing something new and not going to let myself get stressed about it. The 2 women who interviewed me seemed nice and down to earth. I felt very comfortable with them.
Machka—I usually go to the bathroom a lot, but yesterday I just couldn't go enough for the tests. Finally the 3rd time I did. Today I am making up for it.
Allie—You have been though a lot this last couple years and it will take extra time for your body to heal. Please just take it one day at a time. Rest and eating well is your best friend for now.
Lisa—Glad you got your car fixed and at the better price. We just had that problem and I was told to put a bar of Irish Spring soap in the engine and around the garage. So I went and bought a lot of bars. Put in the car and motorcycle and all around the garage and shop. Had not problems since. We did trade the car off in Feb so I got new bars for there. Remember telling DH on the was home I forgot to take them out so when the new person or shop opens the hood they will see it.
This birthday upset me more and made me think. So I understand what you are feeling. My dad passed away at 69 and I just turned 68. I do not feel that old or think I look that old.
Carol—Nice picture of your mom. Very pretty lady.
Cold here today and windy. I am so ready for 70 degree weather. Two grand daughters had Prom tonight. The one I posted the picture of lives close and the otherone lives 130 miles away. Where has the years gone. The one (Paytn) I posted I was in the room when she was born and we were really close when she was young. Once they hit teenage they have less time for us.

Did Firm Maximum Cardio Burn DVD then some yoga then took a walk around the block
Mo– this DVD had some step in it, and I really need to get back to step. Good back-in
Vince wants to cut the grass today so maybe I’ll come across that small stump that I could swear was here. If I do, I’ll not only put the “X” on it but also put a small flag near it since if I missed it, he probably would too
Vicki– how wonderful that you found a job! Hope it’s all you want it to be and then some. Pretty gd
Lisa– I just had a thought. Maybe the local fire dept would want to use that house as a controlled burn? They practice going into burning houses that possibly would collapse. If anything, should you go for mayor (and you’d be fantastic) they’ll probably remember that you’re helping the community
Vicki – you name the store and I can tell you where the bathroom is….lol
Birthdays: I can’t say that I ever had a birthday that hit me hard. Now Vince did when he turned 35 and then when he turned 70. When I turned 70 in a way I was looking forward to it. Now I don’t feel so bad if people give me the “old lady” pleasantries ( like a seat).
Started to revive my sourdough starter. I’m thinking that’s something we haven’t had in a while so I’ll make a few loaves
Gotta go out right now and help Vince cut the grass (steps here I come!)
Finished mowing the lawn, took a shower, church tonight and then Green Room to see “Murder at the Howard Johnson’s”.
Show was funny. Unfortunately, we sat right below the a/c so cold air was blowing on me the whole time.

Barbara … sorry about the water issues. I hope they get solved soon!
Lisa … Happy Birthday!
Lisa … I'd be a mess if I had to make 13 phone calls in one day!! I have to brace myself and get myself for one.
Ginny - all the best on your surgery!
Flea - great job on the walking!

That's good … you're interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. It's a 2-way street. So it bodes well that you felt comfortable.

Lisa since Joe’s been spraying this around the garage (inside and out) weekly, we have had no mice.
Heather been meaning to say how much I loved the latest painting, the flowers. So pretty! And your crispy duck and garlic green beans have my mouth watering.
Carol, not just others, but I do not recognize the eternally young me when I look in the mirror. Think it was Heinlein who said we women never age past nineteen inside.
Lanette, yes I can. I still have voice recordings of coach Ken from when he taught at the college before the pandemic, and have enough things to mimic his gear (steps, bands, exercise balls, dumbbells). The only thing I don’t have, and won’t get, is a dread medicine ball. Now for motivation and self-discipline . . .
Barbie yah frustrating, and a real exercise in patience and resilience ;} So used to being profligate with water it’s a struggle to choose between washing my hair, doing a load of laundry, or watering the yard. Good thing my California years taught me to capture shower water for the bucket flush. . .
Ginny, yours to Rita about staying to see her son’s miracle brought a tear to my eye. Prayers for them and for you.
Vicki beautiful couple. Another benefit to the county job, no more crazy work hours/shifts?
Michele I was shocked when first offered senior discounts, and other elder pleasantries, kinda like the time when in my 30s a cashier asked for my id to buy beer. As I reared back to laugh she said “oh no, that’s all right dear, I didn’t see your face.” Ugh.
Machka, if I make one of the phone calls on my list a day, I count it success!
I am bushed. After dog group I played in the dirt a little, sowing some sweet pea seeds along the fence to conceal the compost pile and water barrel, sticking some artichoke and cucumber seeds in the seed trays where old seeds didn’t come up. Then put together the little walk-in green house, a Grocery Outlet impulse purchase. Alas, today was the last sunny day for the foreseeable future, so the tiny seedlings stay in the garage under the growlight and on the heat mat.
On fellowship committee for church tomorrow, didn’t know what to make so in the spirit of shopping the pantry, grated up all the bits of non-stinky cheese I had and used the last 5 tortillas to make quesadillas. Will serve with a bag of salad, store bought guacamole and salsa. Really hope the wind holds off until I get back home.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Barbara - the smell of garlic marinating in hot olive oil is my favourite smell in all the world. It reminds me of holidays in the South of France, when I had run out to the boulangerie before it closed for lunch, and was coming back to the holiday house past open doors and windows. Somewhere in the cool, dark, interior a stout bonne femme was cooking a delicious lunch. I would almost swoon with the scent of garlic wafting out into the baking hot street.
Crispy duck with pancakes reminds me of my brother. We used to go to a very good Chinese restaurant near where he lived, and invariably had that as a starter. Unfortunately, he can't enjoy his food the way he could, after his radiotherapy on his throat. I am planning to go and see him soon, if he can give me some dates.
in London, where I lived for 40 years, Chinatown,( a wild west place in those days), was a quick, direct, tube trip away and we often went there in the evening before the children were born. My favourite, apart from crispy duck, was whole crab in black bean. Unfortunately, Chinatown has changed out of all recognition, under the pressure of tourism. All the places I used to know and love are long gone. I think there is one decent place left, but the last time I was there, the queue was so long we didn't bother.
Food evokes so many memories and associations for me. It's never just something to shove in my face. It's part of the wonderful, booming, symphony of life.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

John is leaving in half an hour to meet his daughter off the train. On my instructions, he is wearing a linen shirt, with a tee shirt underneath. Unfortunately, he is reluctant to wear it as I like it, not tucked in, and open, like a 'shacket'. Oh well. I don't suppose she will mind, though she does sometimes compliment him on his clothes, (which I have selected). 😛🤩 They have a long walk ahead of them, through the parks, up onto the South Downs. All very uphill! She loves walking.
I can have a 'funny lunch'. Hooray! I have boiled an organic egg (one of Prince William's), and I will have it with refried beans and brown rice from the freezer. Lots of chilli sauce. Can't wait! I will chop up some cucumber and tomato and salad onion.
Another glorious day here! What a spring we have had. 😍

Our spell of fair weather is set for at least another week. Still a nip in the air, but very pleasant. We will Skype with family later.
They are discontinuing Skype after Easter, so we will have to find an alternative to use. We use messenger for text chats, so may explore FaceTime to replace Skype. I will let the young’uns sort it out. They are all very techie savvy.
Also have a dental appointment on Tuesday afternoon.

Morning, all…
Thank you all so much for the wonderful birthday wishes. Throw in grey days and more than a foot of rain, and I just wanted to hide my head under a pillow—not my usual reaction at all. But, exercise yesterday got me out of my funky birthday mood, and was helped by dinner out at a small Vietnamese restaurant in the nearer town, just a ten-minute drive away (just down the street from the place that worked on my car).
The spring rolls were absolutely outstanding, and my noodles and grilled shrimp were quite good. Tasted all the sauces, and it was lovely finding different tastes we liked. Tasted Corey's pork, and it was good as well. Even so, with the tip, still 50 bucks, so definitely not once a week. But we will go back.
I need to get a review done this morning for that and for the service center that worked on my car. Love being able to support local business.
Heather - Hope you really enjoyed your "funny lunch." 🥰
Barbie - Your mother was like my ex-mother-in-law regarding her age. I've seldom been sensitive to mine in the past - it's hitting that 5th year of the decade, for some reason. Love all the ages ending in zero so far. It's past odd that your mom would believe her own fibs, though. Scary, even.
Vickie - I'm so glad you felt comfortable with the ladies who interviewed you! I think that's a really good sign. Thanks for the tip on Irish Spring, I've got to do SOMEthing to try to keep the little field mice out of my car. Corey laughed when I said something about mice bait - and said that poisoning two or three out of hundreds of them didn't make much sense. Repelling them seems much more sensible. The pic of the granddaughter was just lovely. They're all growing so fast!
Machka - My entire social connection is also phone calls, except my son, who's a texter. I've had days where I've had more than six calls in a given morning to or from family and friends. I take my earbuds out and I can still feel them in my ears for hours after.
Terri - Ditto what Heather said on Zoom. If someone can use Skype, they already have what they need.
Did get a call from my brother and best friend on Thursday, and then my daughter Friday afternoon - she was in the field all day Thursday and couldn't get to the phone. Was able to talk to my granddaughter, too, who was in the truck with her, on their way to work and school. Talked to my sis, too, and got some writing done that I really needed to do.
Basically, nobody let me sit in my funk and be funky. Between them and y'all, I felt very loved this week. Thank you.
Need to get a script started this morning for this week's video. Because Cor got me into town on Friday, all I have this week is the Wednesday morning call with hematology. I think they'll be discharging me from the every three-month testing finally, as long as these are good.
Stuff to get done - I need to go ahead and go down to Walmart, I think, before the after-church crowd gets there. It's impossible after lunch.
Later, my friends,
Much love from the chilly, sodden Arkansas River Valley, looking forward to the sunny week ahead.
Lisa6 -
We tend to be on for rather longer than that. 😂 but I’ll bear that in mind.
I have used Zoom in the past, it’s just such a faff to get it set up on a new platform.2 -
Lisa, belated happy birthday..
Vicki, huge congrats on the new job.
Barbara, thanks for the peppermint hint for mice/rat problems.Carol loved the picture of your granddaughter. Love her dedication. I have a granddaughter in Alaska who runs races and I’m so proud of her ..
I haven’t written much lately. My sister is doing well and I’ll be joining her in Alaska at the end of April. I’m looking forward to summer and will be back in Washington in the fall.
It’s been a time of loss for me. A beloved cousin died of age related causes and it hit me hard. A week later my friend was shot and killed by her husband. He shot her and then killed himself. Their relationship was unhealthy and the violence escalated over the years. She couldn’t leave him. Thanks Barbie for the new month. It helps to read this thread everyday. And I’m feeling sad but over the dark grief that kind of overwhelmed me.
