i think I’m all caught up, but probably won’t do much commenting. I realized I missed a few things when some replies commented on things I didn’t remember reading. I’ve been caught up in family stuff for a while. My brother was killed in a horrible car accident last Wednesday night. I think I shared already about his wife’s stage 4 terminal diagnosis. He was on the way to the hospital to visit her. He was utterly exhausted from trying to keep his business afloat, earn a living, and visit her every night. It was raining pretty heavily. We don’t know all details, but he was determined to be at fault by turning into the path of another car. We will eventually get an autopsy report I guess. It’s the most horrific thing I’ve ever been through. He had Mama listed as his next of kin in his wallet. They called her; I had to go get her and take her to the ER where they gave us the news. Then I had to notify the children and go up to the hospice wing and notify his wife. I wanted my niece to notify my sister so that she did not get the news alone in the middle of the night, but my niece had her phone turned off sleeping. Then my brother’s youngest posted “fly high, Dad” on FB at 3 in the morning and my sister saw it. She called me and I had to deliver the news over the phone to her anyway. We had the funeral yesterday. My sister is staying in Georgia with Mama for a few weeks, and I am home today. I got caught up on errands and bill paying, did my workout this morning, and now I’m trying to get a few moments to myself. I’ll process my own grief later.

Rebecca ~ Out of curiosity I must ask: Are you seeing changes in how your health feels with the fasting? I find that I seem to be a person who needs to eat something at 3 or 4 times a day.
Flea ~ We too are still dealing with my husband's BNL's estate. It seems like a never ending process.

MFP Weekly Check-In for April 28, 2025
Sue in WA - Crazy week. I am sore and tired. DD and I rearranged fencing for while she is gone this coming week. My whole posterior chain as my yoga instructor would term it is really sore, from my calves to my back but the electric fence in the backyard pasture is operational again and the chute from the paddock to the pasture is repaired so easy to get the horses out there. However I gained a pound in the process. Hoping it is just water weight. Made it to yoga once and water exercise twice. Really need to get rid of the Easter candy and away from the sugar.
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast - Average WT keeps going up (134.3 from last month's 133.1) and steps going down, only made goal one day this month. DOH! Woke up grateful for familiar knee joint ache instead of suspicious-maybe-dvt-pain. The things we can find gratitude for! ;)
Lanette SW WA State – weight still hovering around 165 which had been my set point for years until last summer and winter where it went down to 158 for a few months, then 160. Working on this mystery. Step average 8520, up from last week. Total activity minutes 315. Still doing PT exercises, walking with weights. Some Farmer’s carry, some Suitcase carry but I’ve morphed the majority of it into what I’d call “Shoppers carry” with a 3# weight in one hand and a 5# or 8# weight in the other hand, alternating hands. Similar to carrying shopping bags of unequal weight for some distance.

OOh definite changes. First the afternoons I am processing, so by evening I am all done. No gurgling, no TUMs munching, and no acid reflux going on. I get to sleep faster. Of course I still take a melatonin pill, but I take it at 7, so by 9 pm, its kinda started to do its thing. I like sleeping knowing that my body isn't just processing food, but that fasting is healing me. The mornings are just black coffee, with mineral water, so by 10 or 12 noon I am hungry! My passion for food, flavors, are heightened. If I lose weight fine, but really losing weight is just a side effect of fasting for me. There is no end result with this. Its not really about what I eat, but the times when I don't. I play chef for husband some dinners, or he fixes it himself. If its something I want, I will fix the meal for lunch, then reheat for husband at dinnertime. It takes awhile for a body to switch from a sugar burning machine to a fat burning machine. So the beginning can feel rough. I tell myself that feeling hungry or empty isn't an emergency.
Having my baskets help. I just fill with what I want to eat that day. I also have a plastic container in the fridge that's my stuff. The way I eat is so different than husband, so its just easier to keep it all separate. He has 3 meals plus 2 or 3 snacks as well. Reading Gin Stephens books helps explain a lot too.
Posting my journey on here gives me accountability, I am not trying to convince anyone to do intermittent fasting. We are all on different and unique journeys.💖

Another four solid hours of work done. First two hours of clipping chainlink to get it off the posts, then up and down off the tractor dozens of times getting the posts out.
Sue - I feel ya on the ouchy "posterior chain." The links have to be snipped from about an inch below ground level all the way up each post, three wires on each center pole, and more than 20 snips on the corners, of which I had four… and I'm doing it with a bolt cutter that weighs about 12 pounds. Much easier on my hands than a wirecutter, but boy, my arms are feeling it, too!
But, got all the chainlink removed, finally, and all but six posts are in the metal pile. The guys that are tearing down the little house asked if they could save them from the dumpster, and I said "of course!" They can get a few cents a pound for metal. It was never worth it for Corey, as if he took time off work to haul metal to the collection point, he'd lose all his overtime (IYKYK), and they're only open weekdays. Literally would cost us money to have him do that.
As for me, I called it at 1 p.m., hauled my tired little behind to the big house, finally ate something and got a shower. Only found one tick - have had many more than that before. Still early spring. Which reminds me, I need to get some repellent for Egg again. Keeps most of them and the fleas the feral cats bring with them off of her and out of the house. Life in the country has its hazards, as well as its joys.
Still haven't set up my meds for the week, need to do that and got a bunch of laundry to fold…
Love y'all…

I had my sister cut ds's hair the very first time when he was just 6 months old. I got tired of hearing "She's so cute"- I would just respond, no HIS name is Jona. She cut just over 3 inches off the back for his first hair cut.
At 6 months old, I was still pretty much BALD!3 -

Home from work to make the macaroni & cheese to take to the “end of season” bowling party. Bowled and then had to pick up some ceramics that the daughter of a friend of mine picked up for me. I really really wanted this ship’s wheel to put on the pergola over the equipment pad for the pool. Spray painted the last of the orange posts and while they dried had dinner, then put grass seed and the rest of the potting soil on the places where the tree stumps were removed. I really think we should have used straw but Vince didn’t think so. He thought I had enough potting soil to cover it all, not just sprinkle. I said “you know how much I had” “I really didn’t pay attention”. Then maybe he should have listened to me when I said that we should get straw, eh?
After that brought in the orange posts and respraypainted the large black posts. I’m just going to leave them out overnight. Last night I brought in the first batch of orange posts and it was such a pain. No one’s going to take them. And if they do, it’s not like it’s a lot of money fort he PVC pipe
Dentist tomorrow and I start my clear liquid diet for my colonoscopy on Thurs. Wednesday I start the yukky stuff.
I admit, I went overboard at the bowling party just knowing what’s in store for me. Dumb excuse, I know
Remember the neighbor I told you about who needed the open heart surgery. I took some of the macaroni & cheese to him, some brownies, and some cake. Well, they didn’t do the surgery because he has too many calcium deposits and I understand they were afraid he’d have a heart attack on the table
Dentist tomorrow. Routine cleaning and check up.
Lisa – so glad you are OK.. What a great plan Cory has! I’d love it.
I like almost all frozen vegetables, but does asparagus frozen get “mushy”. That’s one reason I’ve avoided it. I really should try it frozen. I do like it fresh, but that’s such a pain. I don’t care for raw broccoli, but if it’s steamed I like it. I just don’t like sauces, butter or whatever on my veges. I want to taste the vege, not the sauce.
Allie – how wonderful if you can get off the lupus meds!
Got this app for free where I can “speak” to the non-English speaking gal. I want to ask her to do the prep for me next Fri and Sat. I’m sure she will, will give her something to do.
Kate – I’m so very sorry
Took a shower and off to bed.

Unlike a few of you, I LOVE cauliflower and broccoli. I've never had it prepared in a way I didn't like. Raw, steamed, baked, slow cooked, roasted … fresh, frozen.
I'm less fond of them riced because I don't get to enjoy the flavours and textures … and it goes a bit mushy. But I still like them.
Broccoli stems are really good. Get raw broccoli with long stems, trim off the harder outer layer, cut the inner into sticks and yum, yum!
Cauliflower has quite a strong flavour, broccoli a little less so.

Machka - Almost exactly opposite in cauliflower and broccoli here. Broccoli has a quite strong flavor and cauliflower almost none.
I rather famously don't like veggies, but I love cheese, and with enough of it, I can handle broccoli. I've only made one dish with cauliflower that I liked and it was a gratin. Will eat green beans if they're cooked with a bacon-laden sauce, and do love butternut squash and sweet potatoes, preferably with lots of butter.
Sooooo, in other words, I just don't eat a lot of vegetables because in order to eat them, I have to overload them with calories that will take away the bitterness. Most veggies taste like bitter dirt to me, and the greener they are, the less I can stomach them at all. Also not a fan of beets or carrots, or other kinds of squash, so it's not the green, it's something else.
If I were alone and not living with a cook who is a meat lover, I'd probably be eating potatoes and cheese. As it is, I do take supplements to help supply what I don't get from food, including a multi-vitamin, and separately, additional iron, zinc, folate, potassium, and vitamins b12 and C.
I didn't say it was a good idea, please note. Corey's the only reason I get anything resembling a balanced diet, and he has been known to sneak a veggie in on me here and there. But, since he also loves butter, cheese and bacon, it's seldom a healthy preparation.
More later,
Love,
Lisa in AR7 -
Our fresh cauliflower lasts for weeks! We do keep it in the fridge. But we do get it fresh … it's grown about an hour away from here.
This describes the flavour of cauliflower quite well … and I especially pick up on the pepper flavour.
"Raw cauliflower has a subtly sweet, slightly nutty flavor. It is delicate and mild with a hint of pepperiness."
Broccoli tastes kind of like brussel sprouts, lettuce, snowpeas … kind of a little bit grassy, with a tiny hint of bitterness.

I have no formal activities today and tomorrow, apart from weekly shopping and some prep for Latin on Friday.DH is at badminton this morning. I have already been out to do some gardening as it’s a beautiful spring day.
I like broccoli and cauliflower steamed or in Mac and cheese. Also like the raw broccoli stalks when they are fresh.
