Kay-So sorry about your brother. You’ve had a lot going on in a short time. Be sure to take care of you.
Add me to the no broccoli camp. I have recently found it to be much better from frozen. I don’t mind cauliflower. I just have broccoli when I make something with a sauce. I like roasted veggies a lot, but I struggle with broccoli in all its forms. I do like the broccoli salad from Costco, but mostly because of the sweet coleslaw type sauce that comes with it. Therefore, I don’t buy it.
I recently discovered spinach pesto, however, and put it on everything, including broccoli and it’s delish.
Rebecca-glad your youngest is better. Eli is growing so fast.
Rori-Hope the results come back favorable.
I had a Me day today. I met a group for a 4 mile hike. The drive was a wonderfully peaceful and scenic hour. I also had limited cell service on the hike, which was nice too.I treated myself to a fancy coffee before and stopped for BBQ on the way home. It gave me and the mister something new to talk about. We find ourselves running out of talking points from being together so much. One of the mister’s screws is coming loose in his leg. We are waiting on an appt. with an ortho trauma surgeon to find out if he needs another surgery.
We also bought tickets to see Elton John in 10 days or so. It’ll be my 4th time seeing him. This is a charity concert. I’m looking forward to that.Michele-Google Translate is free and works ok. You need to practice with it, however.
Tracey, Carla, and Everyone who makes those cards-They are truly gorgeous. I admire those of you, with artistic talent.

Well spoke a wee bit too soon. Son is still in hospital, on Skyrizi for his symptoms, just trying to feel better. Doctors were surprised at his scarring when he had his colonoscopy, and had a surgeon look at it, during the procedure. So if this med doesn't show any improvements, then he might have to have a surgery to put a bag on. But that's a worst case scenario, so lets hope it doesn't come to that. Son and I video chatted and I was very matter of fact about the most important thing is his quality of life. He responds well with honest, logical thinking as that is how he puts his life into a certain proper perspective. I am numb though from our chat.😥💖

I don't know how to post pictures with the spoil alert. Sorry, my friends. I had fun at the wedding, but the next day, I had a brutal headache. Today, I spent the entire day with DD. Julia has matured dramatically. I love her boyfriend; he keeps her grounded. He doesn't do drugs or drink, and he has gotten her to quit smoking, but DD brought a vape with her, and I told her that it would not happen in my car. I took her to the dentist, and they put her on antibiotics for 7 days, and then she will need surgery for multiple teeth to be removed.
DD told the dentist that she wished that she listened to her parents, who have great teeth. DD said to me that her bio-mom wears dentures. I told Julia that she has teeth like my mom. While we waited for the pharmacy to fill her prescription, we visited my mom. Rose was with us the whole time. The seniors loved her, and she was so happy to see my mom. She jumped in the bed with her. I brought her a travel bowl, so she drank a lot of water. Rose saw the tennis balls on her walker and thought they were hers, and she barked at them. My mom was so happy to see Julia. My mom looked very pretty with a feather in her hair. I had to sing "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow (probably before your time). I love Barry Manilow. Being in traffic and driving around gave me another headache, but it was mild and resolved with meds and a nap. Now, I will look back at your post and catch up with your lives. Heather, I've ordered your book; when it arrives, I'll read it on my stretch-off. I am so excited.Kay, I am so sorry for the tragic loss of your brother. Many hugs and prayers for you and your family.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi.

It was really warm yesterday. Too warm for my comfort. Bea agreed with me. At one point she lay down on the pavement in the shade. My DDIL paid for an Uber to take us home, as my son's train was cancelled, and he would have to take Edie swimming the minute he got in. DDIL too Bea to hers. Both girls go, and return, in their costumes, with a 'dry robe' in the colder weather. Dry robes are very popular around here. The original brand ones are very expensive, but seem to be worth it.
The bus I caught didn't stop at my stop, so I had a bit of extra walking to do. All in all, I reckon nearly two miles, if you add it all up.
Michele - Yes, I use Google translate. I just use the website on my phone. I try to keep apps to a minimum. It's pretty good. I have to use it sometimes to help me out with my Duolingo, because I'm too mean to pay, and I'm only allowed 5 mistakes.
Warm day again. Bath and packing. Goat's cheese tart tonight. I bought all the ingredients yesterday in Waitrose - fresh mint etc.

Morning, all,
We're very nearly underwater here, or it seems like it - I have to be in town at 1 p.m. to get my orthotics fitted, and that's when the rain will really set in, apparently. I was able to duck most of the rain yesterday while I was out and about, and it really started coming down after I got back. Don't think I'll be that lucky today.
Kay - Thinking about you and your family.
Allie - I'm with you on the odd sleep schedule. I've been up just before 4 a.m. for a number of days. Annoying. Glad you're starting to recover some of your energy. Resting and healing would help!
Heather - Well done on the two miles! You're going further all the time.
Got a project going that I really want to get into this morning, and there's no better time to start than now.
Love y'all,

On veggies … I like most of them, however, I am not keen on:
- Capsicums. I don't like green peppers and can tolerate red and yellow if necessary. They don't sit well with me at all. So much heartburn!
- Avocado. I love it in guacamole and can tolerate it in a sandwich, but not on its own.
- Peanuts. I love them … they do not like me.
Mushrooms often appear on vegetable lists, but of course they are not vegetables … and I absolutely do not like them!
"Funny" thing is … I like vegetarian choices, but unless I say something or select carefully, they often contain capsicums and/or mushrooms. Huge long lists of vegetables to choose from, and they drag out the capsicums and mushrooms.

MO ~ The wedding photos are beautiful! The bride is gorgeous and so are you and your husband. So very glad that you are feeling peaceful with Julia. And, hope that the dentist can save a lot of her teeth.
Tina ~ I am sure a lot of us older ladies understand what you are saying about needing alone time from the significant other. At our age, we have no couples to share with and 90% of the time it's just he and I. Sorry the screws are coming out of your DH's leg and hope he doesn't need more surgery.
Rebecca ~ Prayers continued for your young son. Hope the meds help.
Kay ~ Continued thoughts for you and your family. 🙏
More About Vegetables: I do eat cauliflower and broccoli just to have a vegetable. I also prepare green beans, brussels sprouts, cabbage, yellow squash, Margaret Holmes canned collards/turnip greens, and lots of salads. I must admit I have never eaten any of the other squashes other than yellow. And, I hate cilantro.

On Swimming …
I had a few weeks of swimming lessons when I was in Grade 4 or 5. I was classified as a complete beginner then, and they basically taught me to float and kind of dog paddle a little bit.
But I had been thinking of taking these swimming lessons for some time for these reasons:
- I live on a relatively small island, surrounded by water and I live very close to all sorts of beaches. I can wade, but don't feel at all confident going in over my knees.
- My husband can swim but when we've gone to the pool to swim laps, he cruises along nicely while I flounder and attract the attention of lifeguards.
- My husband and I have a canoe, enjoy canoeing and want to canoe on the bay a matter of a few metres away from where we live. We were planning to do that this past summer but my husband's Achilles tendon rupture got in the way. Of course we wear life vests but I would like to feel more confident if something happened.
- Participating in a Try-a-Tri has been on my mind for almost 3 decades. I can cycle and with a bit of practice, I can run. But I couldn't do the swim.
- Cycling, walking, climbing stairs, and occasionally running all work the legs. But my upper body work is a bit limited … gardening and occasionally weights. Fencing helped, but it's a little one handed. Swimming could help round out my workouts.
- The arthritis in my feet didn't hurt at all! My arthritis in several other joints was pretty good as well. I figure swimming could give me an exercise alternative when my arthritis acts up.
The first class went fairly well, but apparently I swim like I'm riding a bicycle. I don't lie horizontally with my legs straight. My legs sink into a somewhat more vertical position and I kick from the knees. I'm not quite sure how to resolve that yet.

Machka ~ My family had a motor boat in the 60's and neither of my parents could swim. My mother loved to be in the water but always wore a ski belt. I guess my dad wore a life jacket but i can't remember. Neither learned to ski and the boat was never used after a few years. I learned to float and paddle at an early age but was never proficient in swimming laps. I did water ski and could slalom very well. I wanted to be like the ladies in the Coke commercial who could come onto the beach and step out of the ski. Unfortunately, the only time I tried to do this I ended up in the bushes. Not Fun! 😥

Mo - Just love the wedding photos, you look positively radiant (so did the bride, but I was looking for you!). And when they changed the format of how we enter things here in the thread, they took the ability to put anything other than text out of the spoiler, I'm afraid. You're not doing anything wrong, just no spoilers with pics anymore. You can size them down, if you like and float them at the left or right. Just select each picture separately to play with the controls on each one.
Rebecca - I'm so pleased they moved your son straight to Skyrizi. It sounds like they took into consideration what was already being done with the off-base medicos in Japan. It's not a quick fix - it can take as much as four weeks to get some relief with it, but when it works, it works really well. More on all that:
The other medications they gave me helped to a point and then just stopped. Skyrizi has brought me back to probably 90-95 percent of a normal life. Possibly even more - I've never been 65 before, I don't know HOW I'm supposed to feel! But this all started five years ago now for me.
Each injection of this medication has improved my symptoms somewhat more, and this week makes one year on Skyrizi, with three IV infusions first, about 30 days apart, to kickstart it, and then home injections eight weeks apart. By the second infusion, I was already feeling some improvement. I'll find out at my colonscopy in three weeks whether the Skyrizi has actually healed the ulcers in my colon.
I hope they don't have to do surgery on your son, but during my own journey, I've met more than one person who had to have a colostomy bag, and it's a totally different thing than it was when we were younger. You would never know to meet them, as the bags are no longer obvious. Not comforting when you're thinking about your child, I know. Thinking about you and him. I know it's no fun for either of you.
Just got off a phone call with my own son. He and his significant other are splitting. Amicably, it seems. He's going to stay in Florida, near Jacksonville, but she's ready to move on, after about six months there. She's headed for Asheville, NC, I guess. They were more companions, I think, than in love, from the very beginning. I hope he finds someone worth falling in love with, but I don't think a little time on his own will hurt him, either. He texted to tell me he sent me a Mother's Day prezzie, so I called him to see how things are going.
And… got a few things ready to go on my current project… finally making a garment from a pattern, something I have never tried before. Hopefully I can figure this out. That 1 p.m. appt is hanging over my head and distracting me, I've got to be in the shower in two hours.
Later, y'all,
Love,

😀 Barbara, I think of you every time I discard something. I remind myself that everything I can get rid of is a win. I don't have to have to fill boxes or bags to be successful. A few things a day will add up. Pulling weeds is easier because there are no emotions and decisions to make.
😀 My sleep last night was odd. Annie woke me up to go out two hours after I turned off the light and I couldn't get back to sleep so I read on the kindle app on my phone for so long that the battery got lower than I wanted. I finally put the phone on the charger and meditated til Annie woke again. After taking the dogs out, I read in my regular book with the light on til I got sleepy, then slept the rest of the night until our normal wake time. I'm reading a great book on my Kindle "Kills Well With Others". It's the sequel to "Killers of a Certain Age".

On my Things to Do List ...
Thus applies to something Barbie and Barbara mentioned ...
I try to do a few little bits each day because I figure my future self will thank me for whatever I managed to do.
In addition to work, today, I booked several medical appointments and put away all my laundry.
Doesn't sound like much (very tired) but my future self will be glad I did that much.
One more reason to learn to swim … who knows, I might be good at it!! We'll find out.

I had a great bath! Got in and out with only a little difficulty. It's a very large bath! So, I'm all scrubbed and clipped. Just like a dog. 🤣
I then did the pre-registration for the hotel, and booked my tickets to and from London. I paid a bit more for a flexible ticket, so I'm not held to a particular train. Coming home, I often jump on the Gatwick Express to Brighton and get the bus from there. I texted my son about meet-up arrangements and they, (he and his partner), are coming to pick me up from the hotel, later in the afternoon. That will give me a chance of a nap. 😁
I must say, I'm a bit nervous about seeing him after all this time. He very much has his own life up there, with whole different priorities and preferences. I expect it will be fine when we get together, but it will be like entering a foreign country. I am staying in the present moment and concentrating on being 'curious' and learning.
I have done all the prep for the goat's cheese tart. Just have to pour in the filling and stick it in the oven.
Haven't packed yet, but I have time. I've assembled meds and underwear! I think I have decided what I'm wearing. It's going to be hot! Toiletries/makeup are always the most time consuming, especially as I haven't been away for so long. Plus chargers etc. Downloads for the train.
G is in Paris at the moment, for the David Hockney exhibition. She booked the wrong hotel! Same name, but not as nice. She is changing over tonight. She said her anxiety was so bad before going this time that she thinks she can't do it anymore. She always says that.
Mo - I hope you enjoy the book! 💓 You looked so happy at the wedding, it's hard to believe you were so ill the next day. So glad you had a better time with Julia.
Love to all, especially those struggling with medical issues. 💕

Kidney checkup yesterday went well, but she is upping my Jardiance. Other than that, all bloodwork is not increasing in the CKD markers so good there. As long as I read labels and avoid phosphorus, I’m good!
DS left rehab Saturday, but called me Monday saying he needs to go back because he already has fallen back. He is now back in rehab in the place that really does a good job and keeps me in the loop. I really hope he beats this soon.
I’m in my birding for at least an hours a day, but not today. Woke up to someone banging on our camper door. A Hispanic man and his girlfriend were climbing the cliffs (a big NO_NO here) and of course, fell. He was all banged up and covered with blood, his girlfriend was somewhere by/on the cliff. I think he had a concussion or was stoned. At any rate, after calls to 911 and rangers, we got dressed and I talked more to the gentleman and figured out where to send rescue. I actually had to tell him he needed to go back to where his girlfriend was when rescue got here. He was parked in front of my camper searching his own truck (drugs?) while the ambulance (takes 20 minutes to get here) was driving here. I had to re-direct all the rescue trucks to where I thought the girl was, took a lot of coaxing from the guy. He finally left to go where his girlfriend and rescue were (1.5 miles away from here). Meanwhile, I had call 911 to inform them of what the guy was doing. His head had gashes all over and his nose was oozing blood. TMI, sorry, but wanted to get this all out an written. I came back inside and had an Ashwagandha tea I found yesterday. Not bad. Now sitting with a coffee and writing to you all.
Packing is about done, and we are planning on leaving before the weekend for our 2 week vacation. I wonder what would have happened today if we had not been here? They will find out I’m afraid. I’m excited about the move. I need a vacation from this stress!
Thought for today:
I’m reading a book about anti-gravity.
It’s impossible to put down!

😀 Gretchen Rubin's newest book is called "Secrets of Adulthood" I haven't read the book yet but I took to heart the first secret of adulthood that she shared years ago "What's fun for other people may not be fun for me and vice versa." I thought of that in the discussion of swimming. I tried swimming and found it not satisfying for many reasons so I didn't pursue it. I tried line dancing and found it so engaging and fun and attractive that I have pursued it for decades while others have tried it and found it stressful or difficult.
😀 Pip, glad you found out that you need a passport book ahead of time. When I renewed my passport, I paid the extra for the book not the card not knowing why it was a good idea. When I renewed my drivers license, the clerk told me that if I had a passport I wouldn't need the enhanced license. I don't know if I'll go anywhere, but I'm prepared just in case. Your trip sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

After work went to Lowe’s Hardware and got more orange paint just in case I need it. Then stopped at WalMart to get yogurt. Everything I’ve read says that after a colonoscopy you should get probiotics back in your system.
I’ll probably finish painting the orange posts so I’m near home to get to the bathroom if I need to.
Allie – was it you who had to take some sort of liquid and found that (as I recall) you used a straw and I’m thinking there was something else. Was it maybe putting it in the back of your mouth so that you don’t taste the liquid?
Flea – I found a way that you can translate in Google Translate from English to Spanish. There’s some other version, but you have to pay for it. For me, the free version is enough.
Barbara – I’m thinking peach is probably OK, it seemed to be more of a pink. But I’m not going to use it more than once. Everything I’ve read says nothing red, orange, or purple. Didn’t know about the purple. Boy, after tomorrow I’m sure going to miss my dinners of chicken broth with aside of jello. Had jello for breakfast, now making some for lunch. I did find that the jello from Food Lion seems to dissolve better than the jello from WalMart (it’s the little things you know). I like the “medicinal plant” Joe will be getting
I remember last year I got these fertilizer spikes at Lowe’s but this year I could only find ones for orchids. Maybe another day I’ll go to Home Depot and see if they have them.
Well, I go for the colonoscopy at (yuk) 11 tomorrow. But I might very well be able to do some of the walking videos. I don’t want to walk around the block in case I need the bathroom
Mo – beautiful pics
Heather – I knew you’d know about the translation. A gal after my own heart, someone who doesn’t want to pay.
Rita – glad to hear the checkup went well. At least your son admitted that he’d fallen back and accepts that he needs to go back
Now to prepare the “stuff”. Want to get this posted.

Awe, memories of our parents, always a nice thing. We didn't have a boat but would go water skiing when my paternal aunt and uncle would invite us. My father was a great skier, using a huge single ski. It was massive, shiny wood, like my aunt and uncles boat, a Chris craft. So he would be on the shore, or on a pier and have a fair amount of lead on the rope. Then he'd give the driver the signal and time it so he would just do a hop into the water as the boat was pulling him. So classy. Then when done he would do the last lap, letting go of the rope and ski it into the shallow. When he did fall, the shock of the cold water, plus the fall, he'd moan and carry on.😂 I only did two skis and it was a major feat when I would be brave and cross the waves as I went. I liked watching everyone else have their turns. The day was filled with sand, hot sun, wind, hot dogs and the scent of Ban De Solie that orange tube of sun lotion that made any sun you did get, fabulous. Good times.👍🏼💖

Its such a tough thing, as video chats you can only do so much. Financially we just can't go down, but if he has to have the surgery, well of course we would be there. We'd make it work. Hope and pray the Skyrizi med works and heals his issues internally. My mind goes to the thoughts, "he is too young for all this". But his logical mind is handling it ok.💖⚓👍🏼

I have the same problem with ordering fajitas- they smell good and dh orders them but I never will because they only have the two veggies usually(onion and green peppers) and those are the two I do not like.
Raw red sweet peppers, I eat them all the time- have 6 or so plants to go in my garden this week. They are the little ones called Lunch Box. Do not like green bell peppers raw and for sure not cooked. Onions, a little when raw if mixed in but not cooked.
Carrots the same, eat them raw but not cooked. Broccoli is the opposite, only like that cooked.I do like mushrooms, preferable cooked but a few raw ones in my salad I can handle.
I used to really hate beets- tasted like dirt, now I will eat them boiled but LOVE them pickled. Mom makes the best. I need to learn how she makes them. Those and her pickled okra- a holiday meal isn't the same without the okra and sadly, we ran out- Making sure to plant a lot of okra this year!! I love it anyway! So ready for fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. The tomato plants I started in my hydroponic system are huge and need to go in the raised beds along with the plants I bought on NextDoor- lady sold her plants for $1 each and they are nice size. I got some for me and some for mom. Hers need to go into bigger pots until my next visit up there. My nephew is there for the next two weeks, helping her(and I am sure helping himself but that is between them)
Cucumbers have just popped up so they will stay in the greenhouse another two weeks or so-gives me time to get that raised bed weeded and more soil added to it.
I ordered another 20 bags of soil from Lowes last night while it was still on sale- $2 a bag- already got 20 from HomeDepot- need to top off all the raised beds and pots.
Pulled a TON of Bermuda grass from the top garden yesterday-will fill two of the green yard waste containers easily. Almost done. Will need to get up in the raised beds to dig them up to get the rest of the weeds out and add in the new soil so I can start planting.
Felt good to get so much done. Did sweat a lot and got a heat rash "between the girls and under them" so putting hydrocortosone cream on it. Was planning on doing a third of the weeds but got 2/3rds done. the hardest section was the second third of it. Weed block and old paneling slowed it down but it still came up at the edges. Hasn't been weeded since the fall(I don't plant a fall or winter garden).Heading over to the other house soon to go work on the lawn there- pulling weeds out of the lawn before son mows it.
Just waiting for dh to wake up- he worked last night so will let him sleep a bit more.Debbie

My best friend's dad and his friend(who was also my high school principle and the friend was my counselor ) taught me to ski down at the Russian River bridge-that is where we had swimming lessons too.
I loved doing that.
When I worked at a summer camp a few years, we would take the whole camp up to Lk. Berryessa for a week. I was the cook so they had to take me ;)
We would go waterskiing- I am sure my boss was trying to drown me. It was a lot harder in that huge lake but I did get up and loved it. Haven't skied since.

Back from my orthotics appt. - I'm getting a pair of shoes and one pair of insoles to move from one pair of shoes to another, as needed. Three to four weeks. VA-paid, for which I am duly grateful.
Re: Water skiing - I actually learned in The Solent, the channel between Britain and the Isle of Wight. Well, I say I "learned," but basically, I learned that when you fall down, you're supposed to let go of the rope. I did not the first time, and it did not go well. I was down there with a friend, and it was a great couple of days, staying at a then-brand-new B&B, and the hosts took us out with them on the boat in the channel. My friend, Marge, was much better at it than I was.
Tornado sirens went off a minute ago, but are done now - they go off anytime there's a tornado spotted in the county, so it could be next door or 30 miles away. Did get a little gusty, but it's back to just a soaking rain. We had a MASSIVE lightning strike near us at 1:30 this morning, woke us both up with the flash/bang/rattle…
Egg is not amused in the slightest by rain, thunder or the sirens. She slunk off to the underside of my bed..
