    Red Team-

The challenge this week is for us to watch our sodium intake. I'll check your food diaries daily and will keep track of your sodium intake. Julieash, I'll need you to email me your daily sodium intakes. Here's what I posted on our main MFP discussion thread:

    Everyone,

I copied this low sodium list earlier this year from one of the MFP forums. Hope it's helpful too you! Here's a list of foods that are low sodium:

    Kettle Chips Unsalted
That's correct. There are chips in the universe which are prepared without additional salt! In fact, Kettle Chips Unsalted have zero milligrams of sodium per serving. One serving does contain two grams of fiber, however. The simple list of ingredients is as follows: select russet potatoes and expeller pressed high monounsaturated safflower and/or sunflower oil. Now you can eat chips while avoiding the salt!

Of course best option is to choose fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables without salt added. This is a good alternative to canned fruits and vegetables that use salt for taste and preservatives. If you eat canned vegetables rinse them and cook with water and not the juice they come with.

Newman's Own Unsalted Organic Microwave Popcorn
This filling snack only has 20mg of sodium per serving. The primary ingredient is organic popcorn. Additionally, you are sure to take in 5g of dietary fiber per serving, along with 3g of protein. All these benefits go hand in hand with its fabulous flavor.

Planning your meals around low sodium foods can help you to control the amount of sodium in your diet. Low sodium foods are those that have under 150 mg of sodium per serving. Some foods that are lower in sodium include:

I just found something in my cupboard that helps use up calories and fat and gives fiber but has 0 sodium...

    Raw Almonds.

    1 serving is

    170 calories
    15 grams of fat
    4 grams of fiber
    0 sodium!!!!

and they gave me a bit of a pick up...I was starting to slouch....

this is equal to 1/4 of a cup or 30 grams, I measure out the grams instead of the 1/4 of a cup because almonds don't fit well in a cup...anyway...it was a full handful. Not bad for a snack!

Oh, y'all! I feel so bad about this. I've been out of town. It was unexpected trip and I had two 8 hour drives. I had to eat/snack to stay awake. I know that I blew it for our team as I had way too much sodium. Sorry Team!

Oh, and thanks for the congrats for last week...

Yay RED TEAM!!!!!! We won the weight loss portion of the challenge thanks to Sarah's huge loss!

I just posted on the main thread some ideas for our next challenge. I was thinking of doing boxing-punch combos and another person thought we could do my nutritional idea and eat more veggies. I say we can do both! Why don't you get on the main thread & let all know what you think! I think we need a decision for tomorrow morning.

    Again, great job team!
