Hi there! I can’t believe I’m in my 60’s! I consider myself young and feel pretty good when I eat right, get enough sleep and exercise! I have a birthday coming up and I’ll be 63! I try and stay active and creative! I have a few other groups I post in but after reading through this one- I wanted to introduce myself and get to know you all! Have a blessed day! 😃

LOL - I have a "consider myself young" story 😛
So, probably close to 10 years ago, in my mid-fifties, I was attending an event with my son, daughter and their 2 half brothers. As we came within a couple of blocks of the venue, cars were already starting to park along streets and people streamed on foot towards the event. Quite innocently I declared "maybe we should just park and walk, we're young"…the silence was deafening and I could feel my son and daughter exchanging glances.. I had to replay what I'd said to figure out my gaff!! Then I said "okay, okay - you're young, and I'm okay to walk" and we all laughed 🤣

😆🤣 Love it!
These days, when going places by car, I tend to park farther out from the building, in a more empty part of the parking lot. That has some tiny NEAT calorie burn benefits, of course. But I started doing it when I was having some vision issues that - while I was still capable of driving safely - made my depth perception less confident, so it was more comfortable to me to park where no one else was already. I learned that it actually seemed to take less total time to park far out and walk in, vs. cruising the parking lot looking for close-in spots. So now I do that most of the time, win-win for me, time and activity both benefit.
If anyone asks, I tell them I do it to save the close spots for those with less ability to walk . . . or "for the old people" if I'm feeling particularly puckish that day. (Yes, I make it clear that I know that's an inappropriately ageist joke, but also knowingly self-referential. I'm grateful I am able to do it.)

Welcome, @Rainbow2300 ! I hope you'll decide to post occasionally, let us know how you're doing . . . and if you have questions or challenges, I definitely hope you'll post. Whatever it is, probably someone here has already wrangled with it, and can suggest experiments to try.
I'm curious what creative pursuits you enjoy, since several of us are artsy or craftsy in various ways. I'm a dabbler, do lots of things a little bit, and what it is has changed over the years. These days, it's mostly jewelry making and mixed-media visual journaling.
Glad you decided to join us!

welp, I had my first truly senior moment last night.
Managed to set the oven on fire.
I had a big pot of homemade yogurt, wrapped in a thick cotton towel in the oven for hours. (With the oven light on, and the oven off, the residual heat from the oven light is perfect for culturing yogurt.). I usually hang a towel on the handle to remind myself it’s in there. I forgot.
Went to prep some corn tortillas as chips with dinner, turned the broiler on.
By the time I thought “what’s that wierd smell?!” I spun around, remembered the yogurt, opened the door, and the blast of oxygen was enough to make flames billow out.
To make things worse, I couldn’t get the fire extinguisher to work and our water pressure was low (which it never is!) as I tried to fill and throw bowls of water at it. My husband was, for whatever reason, blowing on it.
by this time, the fire alarm was on with this really ridiculous cartoonish nasal voice quietly repeating FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! while a shrill alarm went offFinally figured out how to work the extinguisher…..and immediately hit my husband full in the face and chest with the blast.
I don’t know why, but I started laughing, flames still pouring out of the oven.He was furious at me. “You think this is FUNNY?!”
We finally got the fire out, but oh Lordy, what a mess. I’m praying I didn’t ruin the wall oven. I’ll tackle cleaning it when I get home from the gym. First order of business was countertops, appliances and floor last night. Didn’t even feel like I made a dent in the powder, though.
Hidden blessing though, he reminded me this morning that at least the sprinklers didn’t go off. OMG I can’t even imagine the mess if they had!I think I’ll move back to store bought yogurt for a while.
Cross your fingers for me with that wall oven unit. We checked into replacing it a couple of months ago when the microwave started arcing and it’s well over two grand. He figured out what was wrong and ordered a $20 part that worked a treat.

is it wrong of me to start laughing uncontrollably every time I picture his face, though?

Oh my!!! @springlering62 That’s hysterical!!!🤣🤣🤣 I lost it beginning at the “ridiculous cartoonish nasal voice quietly repeating FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!” I’m with you, Ida been laughing too! I don’t know your husband, but I can picture him covered in foam, saying you think this is funny?! lol!!! I’m praying your wall oven isn't broken or that your husband can replace another part to keep it going. 🙏❤️

thankfully, his sense of humor has returned (abetted by the sight of me diligently scrubbing the oven for an hour and making little progress other than smearing the extinguisher dust even worse).
“What were the odds of you hitting me square in the face?”
Animals are gingerly returning to the kitchen/LR after all the commotion.
Strangely enough, the fire or phosphate or whatever is making the interior of this ten year old oven clean as new. Even the racks cleaned up bright and shiny. Now if only it will work. Gotta get that stuff up before I even attempt to turn it on.
Back at it. Sigh.

Hello and glad to see this thread blooming with fun and helpful chat. I haven't checked in for a minute and wanted to say thanks to all the timeless treasures that post here. I'm turning 79 this year and due to lack of will power and not logging put on a few pounds. I've easily turned the gain around simply by doing the right thing, tracking, healthy food choices and moving more. I walk daily for my heart and mind, ride the gym cardio glider and clean frequently. It works great. Hope to get out on my bike now that the weather is lovely. Keeping busy with knitting and basket weaving makes for busy hands not snacking mindlessly.
Y'all take care and keep on tracking…
Janet

Thanks for popping in with your update @j29t ! That's exactly how to maintain - take sensible action when a few pounds return, and not let it pike on! Good for you!
@springlering62 I can relate to the panic, hysteria and laughter in your story! 😄
I have badly scorched leaves for my dining room table, after setting it on fire during an Open House on Boxing Day one year - I was thrilled to actually find & use the kitchen fire extinguisher. I thankfully avoided friends and family lol. We just put out the fire, opened the front door & shut the french doors, and continued the party in the family room/kitchen area 🥳. Clean-up the next day was a pain, but nothing like your situation.
I bought those flame extinguishing cloths, that you throw over a fire, one for me and also for my children and bothers! But I'm not sure it would've worked in your oven 🔥.
And my lovely wood table is fine without the leaves - so it's only when the leaves come out that a tablecloth becomes a necessity…😁
