😀 Barbara, the stainless steel hose is lighter than the rubber one that used to be there. It is so easy to use even when I extend it to its entire 100 foot length to get to odd places outside the fence.
😀 Debbie, your mom's garden is amazing. Does she use all the stuff she grows?
😀 Michele. these are the headphones I use for both the TV and my phone.
👓️👀 Yesterday was my regular visit to the eye doctor (last time was two years ago). I had to work at not being stressed because eye doctors have been predicting cataract surgery in " a few years" since 2003 and right now I have no idea how to handle needing a ride and needing someone to watch Annie. It turned out fine. The weather cooled off so Annie was safe in the car in the parking lot midday. The eye doctor was great and said that it would still be " a few years" before I'd need cataract surgery. She gave me a new prescription for glasses and said that part of my troubles seeing had to do with some clouding of my current lenses. I looked at all the frames and decided that the decision fatigue was too much and ordered a new pair of glasses with frames identical to the ones I have now. Maybe next year, I'll pick out something wild and crazy. The whole adventure cost about $400 which was fine with me.

Couple of stray thoughts…..
Machka - I can not imagine being cash free, and doing everything via a card or phone. In 2025 alone I had to replace all my ATM/Credit card twice because the readers at retailers were hacked. So for the 1-2 weeks it took to get new cards my only options were cash or checks. Our systems are too far behind yours to make that work well here.
Barbie - Have you ever used Uber or Lyft I don't use it often but when I do they have always been a great option. And I am always surprised and delighted with the response I get when I ask a neighbor or friend for a ride. I have one person who has said they were busy twice, and have been able to figure out that helping out is not her gig, but everyone else has been a delight. I have learned to turn these questions around, If I got asked what would I say? Chances are if you would say yes they will say yes to you.

😀 Kim, My challenge isn't getting a ride. I have several friends who will drive me. The challenge is Annie and how to deal with her.

Barbie ~ Perhaps your line dancing neighbor would be willing to see after Annie since she knows her well!

No, mom doesn't really need to plant so much but hard for her to cut back I guess- We are planting half of what we used to.
She doesn't use a lot for herself anymore but grows it for the neighbors and also to trade with two of the local restaurants. Up until last summer, she did have her business license and actually sold to them. Now they just trade- she gets really nice meals at places she would never feel comfortable paying their prices. One of the places is owned by one of her former daycare kids. This year, the neighbor is helping more but also planting a lot more of the things he and his crew want it seems. That is fine with mom. She loves all the help because physically she can't do it anymore- the ground is too uneven for her with her hips and knees being bad. She can do the work in the raised beds.
Not sure exactly what the guys were planting- Not really costing mom much, just for the electricty for the pump for the well. And, if they are down there watering everything, one less thing for her to remember to do.
This is the first year they have planted and even brought some of their own plants and seeds.- before they would come down and pick for themselves but didn't really help much with the planting.4 -

It's a bright sunny day here. I was up early with the chickens, literally, and decided to go for an early morning sunrise walk up and down my little private road here - something I haven't done for months and months. Not since last October. It occurred to me that's when my back started acting up a little…. causation or correlation? I guess we'll see.
Rosemarie - which mattress did you end up with and how do you like this one? I just realized since I bought twin mattresses last time, I could just buy ONE super firm or whatever they have and swap out one of the twins. Not adjustable tho, frame isn't set up for it. An option perhaps.
Beth - are you liking your new mattress any better? How close to having that bathroom done? It's nearing 80 here so I might teleport out and jump in your pool or Michele's. I don't have a swimsuit so T-shirt and gym shorts would be my attire. I don't do skinny dipping.
Debbie - Wow that's an impressive garden. I admire your energy and stamina getting all of that planted and the irrigation lines laid out. Glad the neighbor is helping out, sounds like the trade-offs are working great for your mom. Smart idea! Crossing fingers there's no upheaval where MIL is staying with the residence being sold. Praying for a good outcome. Is she still fading?
LSamara - welcome back. 🤩 Great job with the green belt - you go girl! I also get in the FOMO mood or something trips in my brain that keeps me going after snacks. Trying hard to keep the junk food out of the house which helps.
Lisa - love the look of those fans! Wise purchase! $2300 seems pretty steep for an electric pole. Hope the orthotics are OK and glad no surprises at the cardiologist. I bet that coat you are making with lining will turn out fine. You have a knack for figuring these things out.
Allie - what a nice plant choice by Tracy. Good to hear Sean got a summer job.
Barbara - Seems like we're forever trimming back bushes to be able to see oncoming traffic. Good job getting the Spectrum bill down. That still seems high to me. I'm fairly locked in here on high-speed internet fiber plus landline for around $92 which takes care of Roku TV. Some folks around here have gone to Starlink - it's not cheap from what I hear, but was less expensive than satellite only TV like DirectTV. We used to pay a lot for that. I don't know that much about Starlink.
Rebecca - Port Townsend will be fun, what a cute town. I was there years ago to participate on a 911 Center supervisor interview panel - they called them "assessment center's". Didn't have much time to tour the town. Nice drive up 101 and back so didn't stay the night.
Heather - I think my outside faucets and showers don't have shut-off's so need to be turned off at the street. I do not like it at all when several things seem to go wrong at once like the day you had. Glad to hear your tap is now fixed. One less worry!
Barbie - I have the same concerns as you getting cataract surgery (or any surgery) - not only leaving the animals alone, but tending them for the next few days. Bending over and lifting which I think should be curtailed with the eyes? I could have Roger or Mrs. Roger across the street help me put in eye drops if needed. Luckily, I'm also in the "not there yet" category.
Busy busy morning. Alex's dad and brother, the landscape crew, showed up at 8:30 and were whirlwinds. Cut down the dead pine back by the powerline, picked up the dead branches and masses of pinecones and left me with a very nice stack of small wood chunks perfect for my woodstove. They were grateful for the firewood, they have a large woodstove. They also did massive weed-eating under the powerline, sprayed blackberries back there and the weeds in my driveway, pruned down the tops of the 2 apple trees by the chicken run. I can sleep much better now- apple trees heavy with fruit are known to tip around here - we lost a couple that way in the past, even with props. All is takes is a heavy wind coming from the wrong direction. All that for $500 plus a small dump charge. I gave them a nice tip. I appreciate them so much - maintaining this place doesn't seem so overwhelming right now. Again, that's why I drive older cars. The Camry turns 21 this year.😁 Maybe I'll fill her up with "Ethyl" for a present, lol.
I'm up to 9300 steps so far so no "walking with weights" today. I walked plenty carrying limbs in old Muck shoes and my feet are tired.
Took a look at my mid-year budget yesterday. Expenses are pretty much in line with last year except in the property tax & home/auto insurance and utilities category. Those are up an average of 15% - and those are big dollar items. In the past, I'd see jumps of maybe 5% per year. Hope that's it for a while.
Not to get political - but I'd be happy if Congress passes "no tax on Social Security" at some point. I can't keep up with what they're up to, and don't even try. 😁

Hey, guys,
Orthopedic shoes with orthotics installed, and just taken off my feet - lectured on adding one hour a day to wearing them to break them in. No idea yet if they'll help with the pain, not after only an hour in them. Pretty sure she explained four times how to wear them just an hour today, two hours tomorrow, etc. As soon as they know I'm 65, their volume goes up as well. I don't argue the point. I'm not deaf, but I imagine many of her clients are. Why disturb her worldview?
Thanks Lanette and Machka on the fan comments - certain shapes and patterns have always made me happy. I had a fan-patterned quilt, not of my own making, on my bed through two marriages, until it finally fell apart five years ago. Saved bits of it and made a cushion for my footstool in my craft room.
Really exhausted this afternoon, just curled up in my recliner after I got back from town. Before I went in, I worked all morning on the craft room, and pulled two full bin bags out to take to Goodwill of various pieces that didn't work out for whatever reason. Grabbed the stash of various shirts and pants I've culled from my closet because they didn't make me happy when I tried them on.
Cut dozens of other fabric pieces apart that were only usable in part. I don't need the edges or most of the trim, just flat material for the work I do. Saved an entire bag of polyfil from the quilted ones, will reuse that in various ways. Total, one large bin bag that was thrown out. My shelves probably wouldn't look different to someone else, but they look good to me!
In between stabs at that, washed the bathroom rugs and bleached the bathtub and its environs. Small things.
Corey's home - and I'm reinstalling my printer driver, as my Windows laptop can no longer see my printer, even though my phone and tablet can. AnNOYing…

my cataracts went from just barely noticeable when I went for my exam to the next appointment needing to have them both removed. I had them both done like 3 months apart. I didn't realize they would progress so fast. I think that was about 10 yrs ago now. Since then I had to have a tear in my retina fixed. That was very painful- a lot more than the cataract surgeries.
I got new glasses after the first one and because I had the second one done less than 6 months after, when I got the second one done, they redid both lenses for free.

Sean took his grandma for a walk around the block and took pictures of the houses around that block that we grew up with, makes me miss the place..

Thank you, Rebecca! I am on the opposite end of the U.S. in the great state of Maine. If folks can remember, my name is Lorna. I just got back from the gym with my teenager. He got me into Karate after begging for years for me to join him. He is a 2nd degree junior black belt and has been taking karate since he was 6 yrs old; he's now 15. I slacked off on the gym, but his first year in high school has motivated him to build muscle, so now he has me back at it 5 days a week and after week 1, I hurt! I will gladly refrain from politics and religion. As a former hairstylist, I know the topics to avoid for maintaining harmony, LOL! I look forward to getting to know everyone. Thanks again! Here is me and my teenager, Aaron…

Thank you, Sophie! Yes, the fomo struggle is harder when I can't leave temptation out of the house. My husband and teenager have no weight struggles, so things are available for them that aren't good for me. This week girl scout cookies arrived. Ugh! 🤣

yes, MIL is still declining a bit. Dh doesn't go to see her every day like he was and he is ok with that. Done with that "Obligation". He was sick all last week so good reason to not go see her.
I plan on taking her dog with me to the wetlands early Tuesday- He has never been there. Then we will stop at my house, give him a flea \tick bath- just in case-there are ticks out there plus it is time for a bath.
Tuesdays I usually don't have any exercise and I don't walk him every day now that the kids are living there. It will be fun for both of us- should really wear him outI know what you mean about having the extra help really makes things more managable and not so overwhelming- I totally thought that at mom's Tuesday night!!
Heading to my friends, again- to help her with her sewing machine.
Was 90 here today- still very warm at 82 at almost 7PM
Another hot day tomorrow.5 -
Heather - thank you! Even though I’m not using my degree for what it was meant for I feel it’s been helpful.
I haven’t worn a watch in years. I would wear one for a while and develop an allergy. I have my grandmothers I should maybe try it.
I would have to take it in for a tube up and hopefully see if they could make the band larger.
I’m most cases the washer goes on before screwing the legs in. Hopefully you get answers soon though.
You have a card reader at home?Terri - I’m planning on a sleep in tomorrow morning.
Rosemarie - how lovely it would be for you and Carol to meet.It sounds like your mom is settling in well.
Machka - I think the carpet in our bedroom might be the culprit for my stuffiness too.
Barbie - I think we’re going to try a XHose, it is supposed to collapse.
I found what we had was so heavy for me to deal with.
I need to get my eyes tested. Maybe in the FallDebbie - I hope your DH listens to his body and allows himself the time it takes to recover from the stress. It takes a toll that we don’t realize we’re under until it starts easing I think.
Does your Mom want to slow down on the gardening? I can’t imagine wanting to do that at her age.Rebecca - I love Brilliant Minds I really hope there are more seasons.
Lisa - I think that you’re brilliant. What do home ec teachers know anyway?🤣
Machka - I swear for the first month I was done working at two very stressful jobs . I slept more than I was awake.I would sleep all night, get up in the morning and have a nap an hour or two afterwards, wake up for a couple hours and have another nap. It was on repeat day after day.I have a tile type device that I use to take payments at the markets I do. It’s called Square here. They take 2% of the purchase price and the rest is deposited into my banking account usually in about 24 hours.
Lorna - what a great photo of you and your son. I am originally from NB so crossed the border to your territory many times. I’m now in Alberta.
We had a wind storm blow through last evening. It blew the sign off the ceramics shop and another lady had to leave early because her barn was blown down. It was a storage barn, and she knew that the boat and motorcycle were ok, but not sure of other things when she left.
The wind was recorded at 130km/hr at the airport that’s about 5 minutes from us.Tracey in Edmonton

My grad was today. My family came to support me and cheer me on, then Brodey and Kaitlyn took Rodger and I out for supper at Olive Garden. It was a terrific day.
I tried to put the pictures in a spoiler but it refused to work.

Yes, a card reader square
I do carry a bit of cash just in case, but I often have the same $5 bill with me for months before I use it.
One of the places I use cash occasionally is our buses. They are way behind the times and won't let us top up our bus cards with our bank cards when we are getting on the bus. But we can top up our bus cards with cash in the same situation.
Everything else is paid phone to phone or is tapped or waved.
Cheques are no longer legal currency. Cash is not often used.
Most of our bills are sent and paid online.
We have multi-factor authentication on just about everything now too which is supposed to reduce the possibility of hacking.
I have accidentally left my phone at home when I went to work a couple times recently, and that has limited what I could do at work and elsewhere. (My brain is forgetting things recently)
Funny thing - I think we're a little bit behind here because China (or at least the cities in China) are further ahead. We have a large population from China here and when I got my Master's degree recently, the class sizes were about 500 students. Of those 500 students, there were usually 1 or 2 Australians, 1 Australian-Canadian (me) and about 497 Asian students from China & India (mostly) and a few from other Asian countries. So we got to learn about the Chinese technology.
They use their phones to tap for everything - groceries, the bus, deliveries, and all.

Machka - Much of the younger generation here uses their phones to tap to pay as well.
I personally have started using more cash lately. It actually makes me more conscious of what I’m spending. Also, how can I sneak a little to the grands without cash.Tracey

mom says each year that she won't plant as much but then when it comes time to plant the greenhouse, she wants to keep planting more thing.
I know keeping busy is good for her but her body doesn't allow as much as she want- hips are bothering her lately. She will be 83 next month. She has been saying she is 84, another time she told someone she was going to be 85.

Started my estradiol pessaries today. We will see if they help.
I'm washing my white bedlinen set today. I want to have it fresh when the girls see the room for the first time on Monday.
I put in a Waitrose order for delivery tomorrow. I ordered a few more gluten free things, now both of them are gf. GF pretzels! 😅 I also ordered some ridiculously expensive Haagen Dazs Belgian Chocolate ice cream, on the grounds that it's for the girls. 🤣🤣😏
I was going to dye my roots, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow morning. Not feeling like it. I did start my yoghurt off, as I'm trying to boost my poor microbiome, after a week of antibiotics. 😥
Tracey - Sooooo great to see you at your graduation! You really worked for that, and deserve being fêted. 💝
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Lorna from Maine ~ Welcome! You and your son make a great photo and I'm sure that the exercise you are getting will be great for you!
Tracey ~ Big Congrats! You have accomplished a lot and we are all so proud of you!
Debbie ~ A part of me wonders if your mom is being encouraged to do the large gardening by you because it is such a part of your whole life. Your enthusiasm may be making her feel that she must carry on. Perhaps you could steer her toward just doing a very small garden for herself and your immediate family. Just a thought! I am glad your DH is beginning to taper off his attachment to his mom and know it will make both of your lives better!
Machka ~ I have taken anti-depressants for most of my adult life. At the moment I am not taking any because my dr and I do not see eye to eye on exactly what would be best for me. I have gone to the same dr. for at least 10 yrs and am wanting to change to a new dr. but with my health insurance it is not easy.
