hi, Lana. Welcome to MFP.
I’m guessing you must be very short? I’m 5’7”, and never got into morbidly obese range, even though I initially lost almost 100. After packing on some muscle, I have a net loss of about 75, and am firmly in normal range.
I only mention this because- again, unless you are very short, we can beat ourselves up by calling us names, including “morbidly obese”, when the designation doesn’t actually apply.
one thing I’ve truly learned during weight loss: words matter Especially the words we use the describe ourselves I can’t tell you how many times I saw my mom slap herself in front of the mirror, and tell herself “you fat ugly kitten” That stuck with me and when I out on weight, I caught myself doing the same thing (sans the slapping myself, which was sad to watch my mom do.)
Using positive words to and about myself rocked my world. You can do this. Focus on weighing and logging. See how many calories you actually eat in a typical day. Then review them. Where can you make changes? Can you substitute tea or water for a sugary soda or juice? Can you make your own coffees or frappes with fat free half & half or frothed skim milk?
Easy things to start, and then start reviewing favorite recipes. I find I can cut butter or oils in half with little difference in flavor. Can you use a balsamic vinegar or salsa or something lower cal as a salad dressing or seasoning?
When you start getting control of food, consider adding some exercise to the mix. It doesn’t have to be dance. Walk the dog, push the stroller, just walk. Can you add some light weights to your day to retain or build muscle? What do you enjoy doing? I have a friend here who danced -a lot- while preparing meals. During the pandemic, I challenged myself to do 200 flights of stairs- much to the cats’ amusement. But it was a great workout! I love yoga, and took up weights to build upper body strength. To my utter surprise, I enjoyed weights, too. Swimming. Rebounding on a trampoline. One lady here does miles a day on an elliptical while reading and watching TV. I use time on my recumbent bike to catch up reading these boards.
Just be consistent and mindful, and above all….patient. Weight loss consists of ups down stall up up down down down stall, but eventually after a while you’ll see a consistent trend down if you stick with it.

I don't know, "morbid obesity" is a term that actually helped me.
It's just a number on a BMI chart, but it definitely in no uncertain terms told me I didn't want to stay there.
Lana, you can absolutely do it. I lost 80 pounds way back in 2007-09 and I've kept it off by being mindful of how much I eat and by getting some moderate exercise frequently. I just walk around my neighborhood for an hour 4-6 days a week and do a little PT/resistance bands/body weight exercise. I'm not going full-out, and I don't go to a gym.
Weight is mostly about the food. How much of it, and good nutrition.

true enough. I was shocked to find myself “obese”, although I don’t know why I was surprised. But it did make me angry, and more eager to at least get to “overweight”.
Mom was obese. I certainly couldn’t be, could I? 😮
