Getting sick on a bulk

Options

How on earth do u recover from being sick on a bulk, every time I get sick I tend to lose a bunch of weight which basically resets my entire bulk because of motivation. Is there anyway to keep bulking or even maintain while ur sick?

I’d worry less about that than what appears to be consistent illness. Have you talked to your doctor?

Bulking should wait til the root cause is sorted out.

Agree with the above. But another thought is how you're trying to bulk. If it's just cramming food down your throat, tons of calories, then sure, the body can reject that kind of approach. But a bulk can be done through small additions, only 200-300 calories over maintenance, say by adding a mid-afternoon snack of an apple and a spoon of peanut butter. Little amounts over maintenance will add up over time, nothing says a bulk has to be huge or fast, and in fact most of the time the results of that extreme bulk will not be what you wanted in the first place, with lots of fat gain instead of muscle. Take it slow, take it easy, keep lifting.

have you ever had issues with GERD that you resolved?

I had terrible GERD when obese, which vanished with weight loss.

But now when I have the occasional binge, or even just overeat a few hundred calories, or eat a particular vinegar based salad dressing brand, the GERD will flare.

    Just a thought.

This happens to the best of us man don't sweat it!

You've also got to remember that you don't loose muscle, you just use mostly water weight which is easy to put back on :)

It is a obstacle that is all part of the process. What would growth be if we didn't have setbacks to comeback from?

All I do when I bounce back from illness is just slowly increase the calories again. Don't rush straight back into a surplus. Take it easy, slow. Start at maintenance first, or even in a slight deficit if your appetite has plummeted. Train your body to eat more food and give it a week or two and you'll be back to normal!
