Lisa,
Yes that makes so much sense! I know my lack of energy to go to the gym with husband is due to just concentrating on all the "food discipline" I am doing. Not having the food noise, nor the appetite signs, it is weird to eat when I am not thrilled to. But I do feel better after, and my body is way smarter than me, so "she" knows when I ain't feeding her enough. I sleep fairly deep, weird dreams and all. Its just getting up 6+ times a night because my bladder is knocking on my insides that's annoying. I take melatonin so even if I do wake up, due to husband waking up, and since he's up, and my brain has heard him pee that I have to as well, well I do get back to sleep fairly quickly.

Debbie You and DH have been in a pressure cooker for a long time. Be very kind and take it as easy as you can for the next few months. Emotions that were repressed during that time have a way of erupting now that the pressure is off!
I am having trouble losing my post about lunch with friend. We had lunch on the deck with fresh picked strawberries and fresh snapeas from the Farmers Market to add to our lunches. She does like to give me small gifts which I struggle with because I am trying to have less not more. I always give her consumable gifts. I gave her flowers from my garden in a jar she can put in recycle, marigold plants for her garden, and some tomato plants because they were gone until mid June. She gave me some coasters that one had pink flamingos on it (admitted a Macy's clearance) and a cinnabar bracelet from China. Cinnabar is used for many things in China, but it contain mercury. When I read up on it there are precautions to take if you wear it. It sounded like how you have to handle electrical tape(contains lead) and Christmas lights(wiring also contains lead) So now I am conflicted what to do with it. I know I won't wear it. She has hoarding issues like I do. I have decided to again encourage her only consumables as gifts or if she gives me something straight to donations they go! I will again encourage her to by pass the clearance items in a store.

Marty, Portland, OR,
Hey there from Whidbey island in Puget Sound in Washington State.👍🏼💖. I grew up outside of Gresham in Damascus area. My sis lives in my Grandparents home there. It was a nice place to grow up, and I worked downtown at US Main branch next to the Bancorp (tall pink thing), building. Good times in the 80's.💖🤗
You will get to where you wish to be! Just do a couple of good habits daily, stringing them together for a good day. Just know weekends aren't an excuse to eat crappy. Give yourself respect and eat food that is fuel not fluff. You got this!😁

Thanks for the wonderful JULY kick-off Barbie!
HAPPY CANADA DAY, all y'all Canucks!
Happy Birthday Allie... even though it's past and you already got your card.
Welcome Veronica and Marty! You'll love it here. SO supportive.
Thank you for all your hugs and kind words. Sherri's still hangin' on, although I really wish God would just take her home. Is that awful of me? I wish she'd just fall asleep or have a major heart attack again. Her heart is SO fragile after everything she's been through. It wouldn't take more than a blip and she'd be gone and the kids wouldn't have to... you know. Anyway, Alexis just posted that the procedure will begin about 11am MT. I have my alarm set so that I can "be with them" on Thursday. So hard.
Love and Blessings

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!!!!!
Carla - Winging loving thoughts to you and your friend and her family. 💞
Well, we had an interesting pick up! Got both girls, and then John remembered that he hadn't brought their key. We thought DDIL would be in if we waited a bit in the park, but she wasn't. Texted. No reply. So we went over the railway bridge to a local cafe and spent a small fortune on drinks. We did enjoy ourselves though. Then DDIL replied she had been for a swim in the sea after a harrowing session with a client, but would come back on her bike. John took the girls back and I got a taxi from the station.
Not at all what we intended, but I enjoyed it.
Now for a nice chicken salad supper.

Worked then counted the donations. For some reason, it went fast this time. It would be nice if it goes fast every time and comes out to the penny like it did today. After we went to the bank, stopped at the food kitchen to make a donation and to give them the grant application (as long as I worked at BK for the last 6 months, we can apply for $250. OK, it’s not a whole lot, but it can buy some supplies. And something is better than nothing). Went in the pool, now going to get ready to go to ceramics tonight.
Heather – good thoughts for your brother’s surgery
Marty – welcome. I like that phrase “my guy”. My daughterwould like me to refer to her bf as “her partner”. But I can’thelp it, whenever I hear “partner” I think of someone who is gay. And I know that this isn’t the case. But to say “my daughter J and her guy C” would be good.
To all who celebrate: happy Canada Day!
Now to have dinner then ceramics

This evening I had another text from my brother. His daughter, whose wedding I went to 20 months ago, and who has since had a baby boy, has recently separated from the person she married. The person is a trans woman now, but she was a man when they got married. (My niece had known about her intentions for years and fully supported her) I texted my niece and expressed my love and support for all concerned and said she was very welcome to visit. She replied to say she and her baby boy would love to come with her parents when my brother is up to it. So ...... another reason for DSIL's stress. Oh, and I forgot to say that her mother, who lives next door, has dementia. My brother said that my DSIL is having therapy, which is helping.
Oouuff!

I am surprised that I haven’t sought counseling or a shrink; or even looked into starting anti-depressant pills again. Being here and venting I guess has helped. July , mom’s birthday is coming up on the 5th, she would have been 90. Kirby’s birthday is coming on the 10th, he will be 70, and Lenny’s birthday is coming on the 16th, he would have been 64, wow. I have a surprise for Kirby, depending on when I get it, I will give it to him on his birthday or Christmas. I belong to a forum on fb called the black lab life. One lady messaged me saying she had been reading my posts about yogi and offered to paint him and give it to us for free. I sent her a picture, I was touched. O offered to pay, she didn’t want money. I can’t wait.
we haven’t gotten word as to when we should be getting his ashes back, I’ve sent an email. Our time here at pismo has been quiet without him around following us and getting all excited when he knew we were getting ready for our walk. The pain is real.

Evening all
Went to see the kids this afternoon,Tracy tired, not feeling well and was frustrated, Miles pooped twice in his undies today.
And when I show up he goes wild..jumping on me throwing things and that just gets Tracy more upset.
So im stuck between a rock and a hard place

Rebecca - your roast sounds delicious. I would pick the onion out too though lol
Pip - I like the photo of Yogi.
Allie - I would love to go to Tennessee, have so much fun.
Heather - I’m glad you were able to get an answer about visiting your brother. I’m sorry your SIL is having to take a leave. I am thankful that these are legislated leaves now though.
Rosemarie - I have never lived alone. I don’t know how I would handle it, but I think it’s something I could do when and if the time comes.
Annie - I think you’re doing very well on your loss.
I looked it up that Luke Bryan song was from 2011. His music had changed a lot since those days.
Have you gotten your Dad’s financial means in your hands now? I don’t think he could buy a vehicle without your signature.Machka - I’m thinking of signing up for another set of swim lessons. The breathing is what gets me.
Lisa - I told Michaela that you said she was your kind and her eyes lit up and she had a big smile.Levi sure is a cutie. I hope you get to see them soon. They sure do grow fast.
Lanette - our fire season has been going since April. They haven’t been close to us and we’ve had some rain the last couple of weeks. I think there is still lots burning but not affecting towns right now. They seem to get loud and vocal about it when it’s threatening towns and then all the talk just dies off.
Veronica - Welcome!
Machka - You’ve done so well with your fitness journey since January.
Marty - Welcome!
Carla - I hope your friend passes on her own. It’s a tough situation.
Heather - I hope that you get to have a nice visit with all the family soon.
One of my cousins grandson’s transgendered to female after getting married. Her wife knew it was happening too. They are also separated but last I heard still live together to raise the child together.
I don’t understand the need to get married.Michaela and I went to the splash park today where they had some free activities for the children. A bouncy house, free cotton candy, a free hotdog for the first 500 and face painting.
Michaela and I stood in the line for the face painting for well over an hour and a half. Then a guy comes up and counts out the 6 before her and closes the line. She handled it so well, I thought they could have done so many things differently. Let the painter decide how many she could do in a period of time and give out tickets, an hour before she was ending decide how many she could do and put an end of line sign out. So many options.
I bought her an ice cream and some glow sticks as a consolation prize. If they are going to try to get as many kids as possible they could also go with less intricate designs. In the line up:
A park we stopped at after:
Her mother told her it was a “Richard Relocater.” It took me a couple minutes to get it.I took her home early and have decided to just relax for the evening. I’m going to take a long soak in the tub, wash my hair and then do nothing! I had four days off but they were busy.
I really love fireworks but I don’t think I want to stay up until midnight.Tracey in Edmonton

Awe, thank you! I am trying really hard, and though its tiring to do my daily logging, eating mindful all the time, my thoughts are if this med is going to work, I have to do the work. I am having a blast though, eating food that fuels me, not eating sugar, well not a lot of sugar. This medicine has kind of been a lifesaver for me.🤗💖

Awe the onions are the best part! I allowed for a cup of those puppies, with 2 oz of the roast (two slices) cup up and about a cup or two of the broth. I added some of Annie's shiitake mushroom dressing and a squirt of my 5th umami taste paste. It was a delightful soup!

Pip – hugs held real real hard
Carla – I feel your pain. My girlfriend in Switzerland basically was the same as your friend. It was so hard, knowing what was coming, the waiting, knowing that she’ll no longer be in pain. It’s so hard. I cried my eyes out. So I’m sending you hugs and a box of tissues

Happy July. Thank you Barbie for for giving us a positive start every month.
Allie: Belated but sincere happy birthday. You look amazing!
Machka: Bravo for increasing your swimming distance. You are doing better than most folks I know.
Tina: that beachside hike sounds great. I still have great memories of our walk along the beautiful southern California coast.
The pool has been my happy place. I'm up to 45 min 4x a week. Several years ago I picked up a cheap waterproof mp3 player so I could play music while doing laps in the water. They work great when new but after awhile the performance degrades. This year I picked up bluetooth bone conduction headphones and sync'd them with my phone. I'm very happy with the sound quality. And, I no longer have to download playlists. Today's workout was Neil Diamond's greatest hits. Movin' and groovin'.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Machka's Weight Loss Plan
On January 11, before I started actively losing weight, I did a 60 km bicycle ride. I had been cycling through the Christmas break and my legs felt pretty good to start. But once I hit the hilly section, I struggled. Then I had a long time during the rest of the ride to think about things as I plodded along.
I think of weight in terms of 2-litre bottles of pop (soft drink). Is that 68 oz in the US?
On January 11, I calculated that I could definitely stand to lose at least 16 kg (35 lbs). 16 kg = 8 of those 2-litre bottles of pop.
If we were to place 4 of those 2-litre bottles of pop into one shopping bag and 4 in another and then pick them up ... they'd be fairly heavy. If we were to go for a long walk carrying them, or try to jog carrying them, or if we were to put them in a backpack and go for a bicycle ride ... they'd soon start to feel really heavy.
No wonder I struggled in the hilly section of that ride!! And then had to do the rest of the ride quite slowly.
Now I've taken 5.5 of those 2-litre bottles of pop and placed them back on the shelf. My shopping bags are lighter! I can walk further and faster! I jog and feel OK. I cycle up hills and they're not quite so hard as they once were … and my speed has increased by 2 km/h!! And I'm swimming now too!
Every 2-litre bottle of pop I put back on the shelf should make the activity I do a little bit easier.
And the more active I am now, the easier it should be for me to be active as I get older.
How am I losing weight?
I am consciously eating less or eating lower calorie foods.
I have been exercising a lot more.

Good morning my friends!
Tracey I'm not sure of the legalities of buying a car online. But he has not been declared incompetent, so I'm guessing it would be a big legal battle to undo it. Probably cheaper to take the loss and resell the car. If he did manage to buy one. I do have power of attorney, and my name is on his checking account. But he still has one credit card. Hmm. Maybe I could freeze his credit except for the one card.
And happy Canada day! I have seen bits of it, Quebec, Montreal, Toronto, and an Air Force Exercise in the middle of nowhere called Cold Lake. But I always wanted to see the Hudson Bay, and take a boat from Seattle to Vancouver. Someday.
Kimberly and Marty welcome! We are a warm and friendly bunch. Good luck with your journeys.
Machka you accomplish so much! The van and Achilles tendon would have been enough to overwhelm me, but you do such a great job of keeping all the balls rolling!
Lisa Yay for finishing demolition! It's a big step. Is this the neighbor property or something else? Levi and your daughter have gorgeous smiles. My sister is coming for five days later this month. It helps with the decision guilt to rely on her vote, and she's been very good about that, even remotely. I forgot to consult her about the computer. Thanks!
Lanette hope the dentist goes well! Good teeth are such a treasure.
Margaret thanks for the water lily. Because they grow from mud, they are a powerful symbol of finding beauty from the muddy messes of our lives.
Heather hugs for your brother's family. Must be a stressful time...You say a simple chicken salad but I bet your recipe is more than chicken celery and mayo! Your cooking is full of special surprises.
Rebecca you are doing so well! No sugar is the hardest rule to keep, but the most rewarding. Do you have less joint pain? I feel sugar in all my joints. Hmm. I was going to get my Dad an ice cream cake for his birthday but I don't want to eat any. My sister doesn't either. But he will love it.
Allie yes you are stuck between wanting to help, but chaos ensues. Is Miles jealous of the attention for the baby? Maybe a trip to Tennessee will soothe your mind. My sister is from a small town in Northern Central Tennessee.
Rori Yay for the pool. And Yay for figuring out music in the pool!
Special hugs for Debbie, Kim, Carla and Pip. I think about you often.
Today we visit the hearing aid people. I'm not sure why, but hope they will clean his hearing aids.
And yesterday we started the stair climb challenge! Yay! We did two flights apiece.
And I have ridden my bike for twenty-one days in a row! Yay!
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Morning, my chicks…
Welcome Marty in Portland - A few of the ladies on this thread are from the PNW, and at least one is a master gardener, so you're in good company! Glad you're here, and hope you can find the support you need. Many of us come to this thread every day, and many drop in on a more occasional basis. Glad to see you here!
Welcome Veronica in Alaska, as well! My husband was born and raised in Haines, AK, but I didn't meet him until after he relocated to West Texas, where we both worked in the oilfield. He told me when we were dating he was from "The South," but didn't mention it was South Alaska until I gave him the stink-eye! That accent is definitely not Southern lower 48… 🤣😂😘 He's still making me laugh, and much of his family is still up there in various Alaska towns… Hope you enjoy our globe-spanning group and are able to find this group of like-minded women to your liking. Glad you're here!
Annie, darlin' - Well done for 21 days! And so glad your sister's coming to visit. It's the "no-end-in-sight" efforts that wear so hard on us, and having a break is so important.
Carla - So sorry about your friend. I hope it is a peaceful transition for her.
Pip - So much loss, my friend. Your strength is amazing, but so glad you and Kirby have each other.
Tracey - You always make me grin, and I keep forgetting to say I love that windchime! I thought the owls were just wonderful. Michaela's smile just lights up a room, doesn't it?
🌡️Lovely cool morning here in the Arkansas River Valley, need to get out in it and get a little bit of rainwater from the 50-gallon barrel onto Corey's garden and my flowers… no rain projected for the next few weeks, so we'll see how long the barrel lasts…
💉New Skyrizi dose is out of the fridge and warming up to room temperature for a bit to make it less uncomfortable. Takes about five minutes to do the injection once it begins. I did my due diligence, made sure it was what they said it was in terms of dosage - it's not that I don't trust the VA, but… OK, yes, it's that I don't exactly trust them. Or maybe, "trust but verify" is closer. 🤷🏼♀️😂
💧Anyway, I need to get that watering done first, because I'm moving up to more than double my last dose, and I have no idea if I'm going to have a reaction to it. Don't want to be traipsing around in the yard in unbearable heat if I start feeling woobly.
Finishing up an afghan this morning (I'll take a picture) and already have a design for the next one almost complete in my head. It will take a couple false starts before I'm happy, but once I get going, it will be fine… I think the next one will have to be granny squares, it's too hot outside to have a whole afghan in your lap working on it! 🤷🏼♀️😂😘 That way I can wait and put the squares together in the fall…
Time to take my morning meds and let those get settled as well.
Later, my babies…
Love,
Lisa in AR4 -
😀 Annie, 21 days on the bike is an awesome achievement. You have your hands and your mind filled with challenges, so everything you accomplish is done against great odds. I know you'll make good use of your sister when she comes.
😀 Lisa, smart to get some work done before the heavier dose of the drug.
😀 Rori, one reason I didn't take to swimming for health or exercise in the 1980's when I tried it, was that there was no way to listen to music. How great that you found current technology to solve that.
😥 Allie, how disappointing that your beloved Miles is acting out when you come to visit.
😀 Tracey, I loved what you shared about the colorful salad.
😀 Daughter and I are having a super visit. She is delighted to be able to eat what she wants and have some time off from work. She has some remote meetings with staff and clients but enough free time that we can accomplish things together and she can do her watercolor. She shopped for all her own groceries so she can fix the food she wants and eat when she wants, something she can't do at home with teenagers to feed and a husband who doesn't get off work til late and then wants to fix dinner. We've gone through a lot of stuff I set aside for her. She's going to keep some, take the guitar to one of her sons, talk to her brother about sharing the DVD collection and take the rest to Good Will. We haven't tackled the really emotional stuff but, if necessary we can leave it until her next visit.
😀 Yesterday we drove to Good Will with a load of stuff and left the dogs at home. When I got into her car, I realized that it was the first time I'd been in a car as a passenger in nearly a year. Jake was told not to drive at the beginning of August last year so I started doing all the driving and since he's been gone, I haven't gone anywhere with anyone else in the their car since I felt like I couldn't leave Annie home alone.
😀 We had a long discussion about Jake's ashes and sharing them including with the granddaughter in Ohio (a sort of complicated relationship). I don't know yet what we're going to do, but at least I know what's involved in sending cremains in the mail.
😀 The hot weather is going away. A few days is enough for me.

Heather - my heart goes out to your DSIL. I hope therapy is able to give her some peace and comfort through everything she's dealing with. Hope they can arrange a visit.
Annie - good job on the stair climbing and time spent on the bike. You are getting back in the groove! Glad to hear your sis will be coming this month.
Pip - many, many continued (((HUGS))). Happy July birthdays to Kirby and Lenny. That portrait of Yogi sounds wonderful. And great photo, beautiful frame.
Barbie - nice that daughter is there and helping go through some things. I think it helps to have someone else there during decision making time when getting the Goodwill box ready. I have the same reaction when I go somewhere with T - she always drives. It's a lot different! I was the driver for several years and DH the passenger when we'd both go somewhere. T is an excellent driver - if I had to go on a long journey across several states, I'd ride with her no problem.
Kind of like Rita riding with her young friend recently.😁
Margaret - I keep repeating to friends - "please don't get me any more STUFF!" I keep a donation box in the spare bedroom for odds and ends and most of these "thoughtful trinkets" go right in there these days. The next thing I'm going to harp about is plants, lol. I manage to keep these beautiful hanging baskets people give me alive for 1 month max then I toss them. Not a flower expert and I don't want to learn. If these potted plants can't make it on water alone, that's their problem, lol. But I LOVE looking at other people's beautiful flowers and beds! I know it's work. Maybe some day when I'm not weed eating and mowing the back '40 I'll have more time and interest.
I think I'd be concerned about that Cinnabar ring too. Lots of people develop an allergy to the metal in some jewelry. Maybe you are developing one too -wink wink. Hope your friend takes the hint about giving you consumables if she feels she must give you something. I think you have the right idea!
Tracey - sounds like you had a lot of fun with Michaela. So glad she lives close to you and you get to have a lot of Grandma adventures with her. They'll become some of her fondest memories.
Marty - I'm about 100 miles north of you near Olympia. I hear ya on the quick weight gain! I'm cutting out all sugar and white starches/ultra processed foods for a couple weeks to see where it gets me. I lost about 10# last year doing that then watched it roll back on due to back pain and loosening my grip a little on my diet - it quickly went right to my tummy. Good luck to you!
Michele - I also like the idea of using "my guy" (or "my gal", whatever the case may be.) That has a personal and endearing ring to it. When I hear someone talk about their partner, I automatically think of business partner. Too many years working for an accountant I guess. The English language continues to evolve and is often fuzzy for some of us, depending on what generation we were born, lol.
Veronica in Alaska - welcome and hope your heatwave doesn't last long. Jump right in when you feel like it!
We are back in the 70F's for the next few days, a welcome relief. Looks like another hot spell (over 90F) arriving the middle of next week. It must be July in the Pacific Northwest, lol.
I'd better jump in the shower before I visit the dentist at 8. This tooth bugs me more and more so I'm looking forward to seeing him and his great crew! Seriously!
Lanette 😎
