Flea - I love stable tests!
Busy at work. Find myself getting short about many things. Think it is fatigue, a. bit of sadness, and a recognition that maybe I can react more like a human than the boss. It all combines to tell me it is time!
Got MRI and liver ultrasound scheduled finally. I had called them week after referral made. Was told they were waiting on insurance. Called yesterday to see if we wrecked still waiting. Told a completely different story. Said record says I was called day referral was made and a voicemail was left-nothing on my phone. Had no explanation as to why I would have been told they were waiting for insurance. I just asked how we move forward. She got me an appointment for liver ultrasound next Thursday. am, followed by two MRI tests (thoracic and lumbar spine).
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Lisa - awesome afghan! You are on fire. I really like the way the border/inner lines switch at each half. Hope you are feeling well after your injection today. Crossing fingers Kelsey's week with her bio dad turns out OK.
Flea! Happy Dance!!! Thanks for letting us know, that made my day. 😁
Heather - I think it was Ginny who said occasional forgetfulness is normal. It's when we don't remember something so simple as how to turn off the burner that things get tricky. My DH would stare at something that used to be easy and automatic for him. Then he'd laugh, shake his head and say he just didn't remember how to do it. Like circuits were becoming unplugged in his brain. It didn't seem to worry him though. If you are concerned, there are the online tests and I think most doctors over here can give them. Your DDIL might even have some.
Rita - you and me driving somewhere? Can you say Thelma and Louise with a happy ending? Make sure your car is fast enough to outrun the cops, we gotta give it all we got!
Rebecca - good job getting down a size.🤩 You are doing great - I don't trust those scales and I think clothing fit gives a more accurate picture.
Michele - absolutely "If God means it to live, it will live." We can only do so much, lol.
Barbara - I'm glad to know your hanging baskets end up like mine. What Michele said.
Margaret - Kudos to you for your floral green thumb!! Love the pictures you post for us.
Mo - I love that you find joy in your job caring for those little ones. Was it hard at first not to bring the job home? I remember at 911, I taught myself to turn off my brain to all that happened when I walked out the door from the Center each day. I bet you do that too. Fingers, eyes, and legs crossed for your DH and the job. My philosophy - if he doesn't get that one, there's a better one waiting for him. I know he's a positive thinker with a lot of spiritual strength.
Ginny - good gravy! That mix up with the waiting for the MRI, insurance, leaving a message never received. I wonder if they have you confused with someone else. By the way, do you have an advocate - friend or someone who can accompany you to these appointments? My friend T is like a bulldog. Asking questions and holding people accountable. She's fun to watch and makes me look innocent. I remember those emotions when I retired. I felt like I was leaving things undone but made myself concentrate on the things I HAD accomplished and were proud of and that meant a lot to me. Try to pace yourself and keep thinking of how nice your new home will be. Exciting new furniture and everything!!
Fun at the dentist today. Really. So he has me tipped way back in the chair, he's drilling with his head a few inches from my mouth and those close-up glasses. I was feeling no pain and for some reason thought of that scene in Coneheads where Beldar (Dan Ackroyd) went to the dentist, opened his gigantic mouth with several rows of teeth and the dentist's (Jon Lovitz's) reaction was hilarious. So I started giggling and nearly choked. They sat me up and I said "Coneheads" and both the dentist and her assistant started laughing. The whole office got a chuckle. They need to play that scene in a loop in the waiting room. 😁 It was a classic!
Tax saving idea for retirees age 73 & up who have to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMD's)...
I ran across something called Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD's) today that I was not aware of. If a person has an IRA or 401K and needs to take RMD's, they have the option of having the distribution (or a portion) sent direction to a charity - can be a church or any 501c3 nonprofit like a museum, Girl Scouts, Salvation Army, there are a lot! That amount then can be directly deducted from gross income on the 1040, and bringing down the adjusted gross income = taxable income. It's helpful for folks who take the standard deductions yet want to be able to deduct charitable donations. So, for example, if you are writing a check to the church for $50 each week, have your IRA cut one big check for $2600 to cover the whole year out of your RMD and lower your taxes at the same time. The distribution does have to be sent directly from the fund so it will take planning to set it up.
I did some projections and with this and the proposed $6000 increase in the standard deduction for seniors (as of this minute) I can really cut my 2025 taxes. If interested, you can find out more from the IRS or AI. I'm not an accountant so could have things a little confused. It appears Copilot gave me the complete rundown and even prepared letters for me to send to the fund managers.
I think I'm in love with that big giant head. lol.😍😘 Yesterday Copilot did a massive genealogy search for me tracing relatives all the way back to Germany, the date they arrived in the colonies and the ship they sailed on, landing in Philadelphia. One spent the winter with George Washington at Valley Forge. All kinds of tidbits. In a millisecond. And it remembers what we talked about a few days ago and has made charts, lists, written letters (above). It's ready to help me prepare 2025 taxes next spring and will be there like my own personal accountant if I get stumped. What more could a girl want?
Ok I need to go let the hens out for their walk now that the back yard is shady.

Pip love the Yogi pic(s) and what you’ve done with the frames, even though they make me mist up. ((hugs))
Lisa whew about Kels’ hat’s shadow ;) V. thankful your ortho was able to persuade the VA for local PT. Hip hip hooray! (Shoulder shoulder hooray just doesn’t sound right). Totally understand Kels’ concern not to hurt Corey’s feelings. That’s why I waited until after Mama passed to look for my bio mom and sire.
Flea, Scan results, no metastatic findings, hallelujah!
Michele awhile back you mentioned something about how to cook a lasagna in your mailbox ?!?
Mo prayer said for your DH’s successful interview and favorable colonoscopy.
Ginny SMH at the conflicting stories and lack of explanation. Whooshing good thoughts for Thursday’s liver ultrasound, thoracic and lumbar spine MRIs. Will you be sedated? Do you have a driver?
Lanette you’re a better man than I am, entrusting so much info to your CoPilot. I’m just a leetle too paranoid. Yes our financial advisor has mentioned a QCD, might check out the impact of donating the RMD from our two tiny IRAs. Dang wish I weren’t so leery of AI. I’m REALLY not ready to start thinking about taxes… ;}
Carla, looked at LazyFit, thanks, but… I do better in a structured class environment, where I have to be someplace at a certain time. Self-discipline just doesn’t work for me for exercise, except those few tiny bits I’ve managed to link to things I do every day, like 10 mins BB&B and/or PT before morning weigh in, and potty-sit-to-stands. If line dance class collapses I may try LazyFit again.
Chair yoga was great yesterday, a good replacement for the Classic Fit class I didn’t like. Another benefit of exercise class… connections. There were three there that was acquainted with from before, Ja from BB&B, Ju from T’ai Chi and Line dancing, Ma from T’ai Chi and dog group. When Ml (line dancing) gets back to town she’ll be there too. T is thinking about trying it, that makes 5!
Long beach stroll with T. She’s very patient with my slow pace, very considerate of my unsteadiness on slippery trails, even gave me a pair of trekking poles. According to her phone we walked 2.7 miles, my phone said over 8,300 steps. Only ate half the hamburger I “earned” but drank the whole pint ;}
Now, after chair yoga and open dance yesterday and long hike today, I’m feelin’ it!
Later, lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMODJuly focus: Just one thing from the OMG room. Really.
2025: Chose NOW: to move more than yesterday (5 sit to stands every potty break no excuses (see action plan), fuel better than yesterday (hold that after dinner sweet down to two pieces of dark chocolate max), open heart and mind before mouth7 -

Yay Flea. Glad the scan came back stable.
We just had a sudden hard rain shower. No rain was predicted for tonight. Crazy weather.
DD will be off early tommorow and have a 3-day weekend. I think we are going to try to put together a shelter for the front pasture. A tree fell on the shelter that used to be out there. This will be one that will provide shade and keep the critters dry if neccessary but can be taken down and moved if we need it somewhere else.
I an planning to go to water exercise, get my hair cut, and go to Walmart tomorrow. I think the traffic will be awful but need to get those things done.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Lanette, I am with Barbara ... all the AI tools have disclaimers that the info they provide may not be correct.
And my workplace has warned us that we are not under any circumstances to put any personal details or patient details into an AI tool. They aren't secure enough yet.
I use one to create generic cartoons and they can point me in the direction where I might find help for a question although I have discovered that some of the sites the AI tools reference are quite out of date.

Heather: I second what you said about current TV. Walk to wall Sport is not my idea of fun.
Flea: Yay!!! So pleased for you!
Pip: You have a great flair for up cycling those garage salary funds.
Machka: Totally agree with your skepticism re AI: Who knows where your details end up.It’s a damp day, so planning active rest day indoors. Laundry, feed the Shsrk, work on Triwizard Tasks, (for Hogwarts Challenge Group), general chores, crafting. Puzzles.

Good morning my friends!
Thanks for your encouragement! This fitness is a long journey, and it helps to celebrate the steps with you!
I have to admit that AI is helpful for simple fact based questions but I don't trust it for anything nuanced. Plus AI or not, there's no guarantee about sharing your data.
I was looking at orange theory fitness, but they are so expensive. Then I was pondering a heart rate monitor. But I don't know what would work with the rower, and I can guess my level of exertion, and it's time to quit shopping. You can't buy fitness. I did find my HIIT timer.
Lisa glad the new Skyrizi dose is all good...Yay for local appointments! And that's a lovely afghan. I like the way the stripes are outlined.
Barbie Yay for your daughter's visit! Sounds like you have it all worked out.
Lanette glad you had a laugh at the dentist!
Tina yes I've got the checkbook hidden. I wrote the checks and he signs them...Where is your trip?
Rebecca Back in Las Vegas, forty some years ago, we used to do laundry by the pool with cocktails. Happy days!...Yay for smaller pants! Good job!
Rita restaurants are tough for me too. So much fear of missing out. I should write myself an index card with a smart plan and carry it with me.
Barbara he does use his credit card, for groceries and restaurants. But I'm always with him for that…You have a good plan. Yay for adapting!…the beach walk sounds lovely! And Yay for meeting people at the fitness classes!
Pip I love the green lantern. And that's a lovely picture of Yogi. Hugs!
Heather I think anxiety leads to forgetfulness which leads to more anxiety. One of the classic dementia tests is to draw a clock face that shows for example four thirty. I'm not sure how reliable it is now with digital clocks. My Dad told me last night that he swam the length of the Nile river. Now that's an indicator!
Flea Yay! Hooray! For your scan results!
MO glad the new orthotics worked.
Michele sounds like drama at the BK.
Ginny good luck on your tests! I have to keep checking the phone number of record because sometimes my Dad gives the old landline number.
Sue what kind of new shelter?
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I give NO personal details other than things like "my grandfather's name was _______, he was born in ____ Indiana, what can you find out his ancestors?" Instead of spending time searching in Google and wading through their ads, the info comes back instantly, with references and websites for more information. Or "I just ran across something called QCD's. Tell me more about them." A synopsis was provided and links to Kiplinger newsletter and the IRS.
And the ability to go deeper if I want. Copilot's offer to help with taxes - I would ask "Line 5a on the 1040 has a box to write the amount for pensions and annuities and a box for the taxable amount. What are examples of where the taxable amount would be different?" This info is useful in case I want to not use tax prep software next year.
Some of my recent queries to Copilot:
- "I rapidly gained several pounds recently after I hurt my back. Why is that and what are some strategies to lose that weight?"
- "What are some good snacks to have in the evening that won't raise my blood sugar?"
- "I seem to be more forgetful lately. When should I worry about it?"
- "What are some PT exercises specifically designed to help facet arthritis?"
This info Copilot AI provides is much like the information you and others in this group often post for us, Machka. Summaries and links to resources with the opportunity to learn more if we want. Not using it at your work is a sensible idea, you are working with very private information. When I was doing background checks at 911, AI would have been a great resource in finding out more about an applicant. Quick way to verify information and see if anything jumped out to be looked at further. As much as we are afraid to give personal information to AI, it probably already knows it. 😣 Or will soon. I have no intention of helping it though.😁
If AI is going to be a part of our world whether we like it or not, I want to understand how it works and get a feel what's ahead.
Lanette 😎

Don't know what's gotten into me, just so tired lately. Might be whatever is going on with my digestive system. I all of a sudden pass gas from both ends after eating, no matter what I eat. I never did this before. Plus GERD is making itself known every time I eat something. I really need to see my gastroenterologist!
FLEA! Congratulations on the clear scans!

Flea ~ Great news about your scan!
Rebeccca ~ How proud I am of your weight loss and following your plan.
Lanette ~ I can imagine you and Rita going on a trip. It would be a blast!
Ginny ~ Sorry you are feeling a bit off and short. Wonder if the heat contributes.
Barbara ~ Good to hear that you have friends to exercise with.
Annie ~ You scared me with the clock test for dementia. When I went for a checkup last Fall, I was asked to tell the time on the drawing and I got it wrong. Makes me think I may be losing it.
Mo ~ Hope your DH gets the job he interviewed for if it is something you both want.

I did another section of my filthy wooden stair railing. The Murphy's soap is much better at cutting the grime. Yay! But I still can't stand on my broken foot very long. Maybe two more sections to scrub, then a final rinse.
Next up I have to go buy an ice cream cake. My Aunt didn't want to cook for Independence Day, so I said I would bring an ice cream cake and some iced tea and we would just do dessert. I found some paper plates and napkins too. Terrible for my diet, but worth it to get together with family. These cheats are why my calorie budget is so low.

Hey, kids,
Busy morning - busier than I planned, as yesterday's quiet day didn't hold. As I flitted from one place to another to get our holiday weekend things, my knowledge of where the bathroom is EVERYWHERE came in quite handy… at the grocery store and the gas station and Aldi and Walmart and the beer store…
Kept thinking it would stop, but I've been home for two hours and everything is still in an uproar.
But, at least my soundscape feels right with the dishwasher, the washer and the dryer all going. As soon as the washer's done, I can get the last of the laundry on the line and take a nap. Possible rain later, but not until 6 p.m., so it should be enough time to get the towels dry.
My head says there's definitely a front moving through later.
Keeping up on reading, but no energy to respond, sorry… days like this are exhausting. Just feels like wading through Jell-O.
Later,
Love,
Lisa7 -
No worries, Barbara. That's why I have my alarms set. They remind me to DO my LazyFit. HAHAHA! I've had my students walk in and gasp, "Mrs Coop! What are you doing?!?" "Just my chair exercises, kiddos! Gotta do somethin' in order to keep up with y'all!"
WOOHOO, Flea! Wonderful news.
DANGIT Allie, those two are tooooooo CUTE! I just love it. BuddaBaby and SMiles. She is a chunk, but what a cute chunk. And she's got quite a smile going on there too.
Well ladies... my sweet, sassy, lovie Sherri has left us. God Bless her. I'm actually feeling quite peaceful about it now that's it's done. I cried more last week when I found out that it was going to happen than today. Sent love and condolences to Alexis and Austin. Of course, it will take 2-3 weeks to get there, but I just couldn't make myself send it before today.
Love and Blessings

thank you- and no apologies needed at all. MIL was from Okinawa and didn't come to the states until 1962.
Nothing he ever did was good enough for her. She felt he owed her. His obligation was to get her what ever she wanted, do for her what ever she asked, while she talked down to him. For the last 4 1/2 yrs and some what before that but not to the full extent, she sat in her recliner, ate there, slept there, watched tv there. Demanding he serve her meals to her. She refused to even take the two steps and sit at the kitchen table to eat and ended up spilling food on herself, and of course, blamed him for it.
She didn't want to do anything for herself, even while still capable. She demanded he hire help, then chased the few that tried away. One care giver lasted one day. The second day, dh came in and found her sitting in the corner, shaking. MIL had yelled at her for not doing something right, called her stupid and turned the tv volumn up all the way and wouldn't turn it down. She couldn't get out of there fast enough.
She wanted to sell the house and go into the care home that we had had his aunt in. It was an independent living place. She was not capable of living there by the time she wanted to go. We put her in one that was more suited for her needs but blamed dh for picking that one.
She wanted a place where she thought they would do everything for her, cook just what she wanted, clean to her standards-basically wait on her hand and foot and take her verbal abuse.
She told me often that I couldnt/wasn't allowed to talk to her when I called her out on how she was treating dh or what ever.I have known other Japanese and they are blunt but not mean like she was. Some were lack of manners but other times she was just not nice.
After many many times of her calling me stupid for buying her gifts I just said, "No, you say thank you" Don't call me stupid!I love all your baby stories.
I have been doing daycare or teaching preschool for the past 44 yrs. I LOVE the littlest ones. Not a big fan of school age kids. Fun but exhausting was the 11hrs a day ,5 days a week with newborn triplets. I SOOO miss them. I don't think I will get any more babies but not turning them away if I do. I do know it won't be full time again.
Maybe one day I will have a grand baby- son and his girlfriend say they don't know if they will have kids, they are so expensive.Debbie

Our washing machine has a problem. E10 message. Not filling. I pulled everything out and rinsed it in the basin, so now it's dripping everywhere. I rang some repair people and they said they would come tomorrow mid morning. I hope it's something simple. It's not very old, but it's out of warranty, of course. Aren't they always?
Lisa - Sorry about your miserable morning.
Just watched an old film, set in Scotland, called 'I Know Where I'm Going '. Great fun. I always enjoy reading the Wikipedia reviews of how it was made. V interesting.

😀 Daughter and I got a lot accomplished during her visit. She leaves midday tomorrow to drive to visit a friend about 3 hours west and south of here and then the next day to visit her brother in Oregon, then home. We went through all the closets of "stuff" that I wanted her to either take home with her or take to Goodwill. She took a lot of coins and jewelry that had belonged to my parents (they died in 1988 and 1991) that I didn't have any idea how to handle. I told her to figure out what to do with them now rather than waiting til she has to settle my estate. If I haven't done anything with them in all these years, they clearly have no value to me. We saved the boxes of really special papers, books, and photos for the next visit. She brought some containers that she'd bought especially for Jake's ashes and divided the ashes so she could take some home, her brother could get his share when he comes up in August, and I can mail some to the granddaughter in Ohio. The remainder is in the original container and I put it in the safe.
😀 I managed to get in about two hours of walking and 90 minutes on my exercise bike and eat my regular food, so it was a good day health-wise.
😀 She plans to come back in November and we can deal with the remaining emotional stuff and watch some movies together.

Did spinning then went in the pool for a bit. Found out one of the lifeguards quit. Really, he’s been there forever, he was there when I moved to NC which was 17 years ago. Then went to the WalMart by the Y to get a new clutch to take to work since the one I had was wearing out. The only things I take in are my car fob (I don’t need house keys), phone, lip balm, breath spray, and pens. That’s really all I need. I keep my pocketbook in my trunk. Then went to Aldi and got milk (among other things) that I put in for yogurt.
Then in the pool. Called the TruGreen service that we had to cancel it. We have an area with grass, then there is a sidewalk, then rocks, then a border, then the backyard. One of their guys must have been putting down fertilizer or weed killer in the grass area and instead of going 10 feet out of his way where there isn’t any border, he used his heavy machinery and drove straight into the backyard, bending the border to where we can’t figure out how to fix it. So I just canceled my contract. I will get reimbursed for services that I won’t receive. They’re going to have someone come out here to assess the damages. I want Vince to talk to the person because he’ll be more “professional”, I’ll be emotional which isn’t the best thing.
After dinner think I’ll take a walk. That always seems to settle my stomach
Made the appt for my annual physical in November (yes, you need to make the appointment now). I also had to make an appt for my bloodwork. I guess what was happening is that people who aren’t having a fasting blood test were coming in early whereas they could be there later. Anyway, my appt is for 9:10. I know I can go to BK early that day so I’ll be done by 9
Ginny – good luck on your tests. Glad you got them scheduled
Barbara – yes, it’s been so hot that I said that the post office just posted directions on how to make a lasagna in a mailbox….lol
Annie – when MIL was in the memory unit of her assisted living place, I got very good at my “is that so?” and “really?” and “tell me more about it”. Really, no drama at the BK. I was just told that the store mgr is stepping down to go to nursing school but I don’t want to say anything yet to anyone until she says something because you never know what will happen. Who’s to say that she doesn’t change her mind and not go? I’ll just continue to do my job. Really, I do enjoy it.
Lisa – sorry you have to know where the bathrooms are in all the stores. I’m the same way, but not for ta different reason. It’s just that I’m a big water drinker so I even know where the bathroom is at the hardware store in FL!!!
Carla – so sorry to hear about Sherri. She’s at peace now.
Took about 1-1/2 hr walk. Now a shower and maybe work on another jigsaw puzzle

Awe, thanks Carol, I appreciate your encouragement so much💖🤗. Its crazy how much my appetite has changed. For lunch I had a filled croissant husband had bought me. He even wrote down all the ingredients so I could log it. The thought of him asking for a pen and writing it on a napkin it just warms my heart. It was so sweet of him. I had half of it with a handful of berries. Dinner was 3 oz of taco meat in a cooked red bell pepper. I added a spoonful of brown rice & quinoa in it, and put shredded cheese on top. I served it on a bed of lettuce with sour cream. I ate half and was like naah.

Today eldest son called. It was night there so he couldn't video chat. Not sure where he is, but he said there was a nice thunder storm off the distance. He was counting between the lightening...😁. Oh 5 miles off still. He's well, put in orders, and his 6 choices looked decent! Working with helicopters which he loves. All shore duty, so I hope get gets one of them! He seemed enthusiastic about his options. We chatted a good hour on the phone. I told him I sent him a box, so hope that gets to him in a reasonable manner. He wants sticky rice packets, and like his youngest brother, I will send bulldog (tonkatsu sauce) to him as well👍🏼. Always starting boxes!
