Heather - I thought about you and your French Circle yesterday when I came across a French film with subtitles. Even with three years of French in high school (yes, well over 50 years ago but still) I could not understand a word. If they would have said "where is the library" or "close the window" in French I would have picked it up, lol. Good for you keeping up with language, so good for your brain. If the teleporter ever gets fixed, I would love to walk with you and see your shops. 😉

Barbara - you'll do great leading the class! Glad Shadow has finished at the beauty parlor. 😁

Lisa - since you and Corey have already spent a lot of time together in "homes on wheels" I bet you'd adjust quickly. That's a good price! I can see why it looked like a workable plan at when you first started thinking about it.

Annie - your dad climbing those stairs at age 91 is remarkable. Do you know how old his parents were when they died?

Michele - wow, that much water leaking would cause a sinkhole some place it seems. Ours once sprung a leak right at the meter and there was a gusher down the street. Tree roots finally damaged the pipe. The water guy came out and turned off the meter and actually repaired the leak on "our side." At no charge. What a sweetie.

Rita - I miss running around in the grass barefoot like I used to do as a kid. I think there really is something to the "grounding."

I'm having a problem with WORD documents on this Dell right now. I can open them, but can't save text on some of them. I think I know the problem and can figure an easy work-around. The files are fine on the old HP. Anyhow I did a big backup - hadn't done one since July 4th. Dusting off some of the cobwebs, lol.

Make it a great week, ladies!

The talks you would love to have again with your hubby sounds exactly like something my mom would say. Those things but also ask him some gardening questions. He really was the master gardener.

Allie- I have had a LOT of experience with potty training- 40+yrs of it!
The biggest thing is- you can't force them. When they are ready, it will be easy. If you push, it will just be a fight and actually take longer in the long run.
I always had special books, ones they loved but only got to "read" them while sitting on the potty.
I also did rewards- a sticker or a jelly belly if they peed, something bigger if they pooped.
A chart-marking the successes. A big treat if they went each day of the week.
Here, I was always potty training at least a couple so that helped. It was crazy potty training the triplets- three potty chairs all lined up. At one time, I had 5 I was potty training at the same time, including my son. He was the hardest-very stubborn, BUT when he decided, that was it, no wet pants after that.

Got started on cutting out the pattern- going to enjoy sewing again. May even start sewing for myself when I am done- the blouse pattern is super cute. It is very long(have to shorten it about 6 inches for Dee) but may make a super cute summer dress for me just lengthen it just a bit. Options are no sleeve, short sleeve or long sleeve, pleat in the front in the middle or in the back in the middle. She wants short sleeve and pleat in the middle as she needs more room in the front.
Dh needs to go to Concord so I will go with him. I need fusible interfacing and buying more is a lot easier to do than try and find it in my sewing room, plus I don't think I have enough for the three blouses.

    MFP Weekly Check-In 7-14-25

Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - Down just a tiny bit from last week to 154.4. At least it isn't going up.

Much better this week! 2.2 pounds down according to MFP. This chart is helping me keep on track. I think I'll keep it up for a while anyway.

Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast - Average wt  UP to 131.8 to  from 131.2.  Blame it on cranky constipation ;{ Average steps DOWN  to 7230 from 7772. Ps@2s habit still solid Whew ! AF days improved to 71%  from 57%.10 mins step up/knee lifts, shoulder mobility and/or PT, split squats or dynamic balance every day but Saturday and Sunday, oops. Back on track tomorrow morning for sure!

Sue in WA - Gained 2 pounds this week but I blame that on the very salty pizza at the choir party on Saturday. We met to clean out folders, replace worn ones, and sort and file music. Choir director had pizza delivered and we had that and fresh veggies from Mike and Karen's garden. Also lemonade and cookies I was able to limit quantities but my hands were swollen yesterday and a little still today. They had project week at the YM last week so was only able to do chair yoga and water exercise once each. After my visit with my doctor last week I sat down and worked out a new eating plan with more limited choices. Having very limited choices worked for me when I was on Optifast years ago so I am trying a version of that. So far I have done well with breakfast and not eating in the evening. Lunch and snack definitely need some tweaking. We will see how this next week goes.

Lanette in SW WA State- Weight not budging much, still a bit over desired range. Average daily steps 7920 – up a bit from last week. Getting in a 15 minute sunrise walk on my private road most days. Still carrying weights 2 or 3 times a day after meals. Back doing better, have been doing a few 13# Farmers/Suitcase carries paying good attention to posture.

    Hey, kids,

Just back from PT - Kinda feel like a young, bearded metrosexual named Hunter (of course) just beat me silly with a pool noodle.

Please note, he did not. I just feel beaten. But not badly. Thus the pool noodle. Never mind.

They set me up on a tens unit first, of course, 15 minutes, then added about another dozen exercises to my repertoire, which hopefully my leaky brain will remember for home use. No screaming, but a couple of indrawn breaths, for sure.

Tracey - Love the cut! Looks easy to take care of…

Michele - 20,000 gallons an HOUR? That's going to be an insanely high bill, among other things. Our highest bill last year was for the entire month of August, when we were watering the garden, and it was 12,500 gallons.

As I said about the RV thing - it's 4 years away at a minimum, as Corey won't retire for at least 6. In the meantime, I need to get my shoulders and my knees in good shape, get healthy enough that I can go six months without an injected medication, and continue to declutter and get rid of those things we don't use and don't need anyway.

If the house we're living in is the last one, it is a good thing, and if we do some variation on the RV thing, that's a good thing, too.

    Later, y'all,
    Lisa in AR

got the pattern cut out and I can start sewing tomorrow

After spending all weekend cleaning and decluttering and dh not even acknowledging any of it, I mentioned it this afternoon. Only say, yea, I saw and started talking about something else.
I could have sat and did nothing all weekend like he does most of the time and would not made a difference, EXCEPT I notice and I like it better this way.

Getting ready for class- grabbed half a glass of coffee- skipping the energy drinks- want to get to sleep before 2 am tonight.
Have two merchandising jobs to do tomorrow after we drop the van off at the shop for smog test.
These two quick jobs will more than pay for my month of regular zumba

Still haven't caught up reading all the posts, maybe tonight after class. still on 15.

Lanette and Carol and Lisa – that’s why I’m thinking that we need a new water meter. There aren’t any “floods” around

After I got home from bowling, boy did I ever get nautious. I don’t think I’ve ever been that bad since I was pg with Bryan, and that was almost 40 years ago! Not sure if I’ll take a walk this evening. I want to be close to a bathroom….lol

Now I have such a cramp in my stomach that I sometimes can’t even move. I won’t be going for a walk tonight. We were just saying “good by” to Jess and I had to stop and stand still while the cramp went away.

Rebecca – congrats on the new car

Eating some satines right now hoping that will calm my stomach down.

Heather, thanks for trying, but I am well and truly stuck. As I glance around the OMG room I see no low hanging fruit and am overwhelmed. Tomorrow and Wednesday morning I’ll be furiously doing a Liz Taylor quick clean in prep for the neighbors’ visit Wednesday afternoon. They accepted Joe’s (!) invitation for amber nectar & conversation. (Joe? Who ARE you???) Maybe Thursday I can have a Cas 5 minute success.

Annie Brava for the stair challenge!

    Lisa that RV has more TVs and bathrooms than any of the houses I grew up in ;}

Michele sure hope they find the leak soon, that could be a BIG water bill ((hugs)). That sudden nausea and cramping, could it be food poisoning? (gentle hugs)

Lanette, first step practice and dance went well, the newbies smiled and seemed more confident. Then I kinda blew it by going to the second dance. It was harder than I remembered and had too many turns for the newbies. The really good news to come out of it was that they read the email and showed up! Will try again Wednesday.

Thanks all for the good whooshing!

    Action for happiness
14-Get outside and move to clear your head. Oops, didin’t happen. BUT for 15-goal is to prep for Wednesday’s newbie class including printing out All About that Bass.

    Later, lighter, lovelies!

July focus: Just one thing from the OMG room. Really.
2025: Chose NOW: to move more than yesterday (see action plan), fuel better than yesterday (hold that after dinner sweet down to two pieces of dark chocolate max), open heart and mind before mouth

My younger sister lives in a 5th wheel trailer. That is why she had to go into a rehab place instead of back home after she fractured a vertibrae and had a stroke. The steps up into the bedroom are too much right now.

I love my Dawgs!!! Yes, they are very comfortable. Wear mine(have at least 5 pair in different colors. Have had them a long time and have about worn my hot pink ones out-sole is getting a bit thin.
Mine I have never tried wearing in the water but I did notice when I water the garden and my feet get wet, they are very slippery- I am careful to not slip.
They are great for plantar fascial (SP?? sorry- it is LATE, the melatonin tea has kicked in and I am too tired/lazy to look it up ).
I also have a few pair of their boots(like Uggs) and a pair of their rain boots. Very cute but not totally water proof like I would like-they are bright with flowers- get a lot of complements when I wear them.

Barbara - Dana K White says it's OK to just go and look at an overwhelming area and do nothing. Just look. Walk away. Look the next day. Walk away. Keep doing that. Does just one thing seem able to be trashed, rehoused, or donated? Do that. Progress has been made. ♥️

I'm a great believer in the 'tiny steps' principle. That's how I wrote my books, learned my languages, got fitter after surgery. Any action is better than no action. One word, one minute, one thing. Or just looking.

    Best of luck. 😁

I've had enormous fun with my headphones. Yesterday I found some ambient noise videos on YouTube. My favourite was a forest, closely followed by a summer meadow. No music, just the sounds. I was so happy experimenting! When I went downstairs for 'aperitif' with John he said he had been playing quite loud music just below me in his study. I hadn't heard a thing! 🙂

Supposed to rain today. I am just about to go upstairs and shut the Velux.

one of my end of the day routines includes laying out my clothes for the next day. Could you include a routine that includes daily bringing pants and robe for dad downstairs so they'd be there each morning. Routines can be helpful in solving problems. When you're a caregiver there are so many things to consider. Many hugs to you.

I agree with Barbie that routines/structure are very helpful … not just for the caregiver but also for those with dementia. My mom has become very stable now that her days follow a regular schedule and pattern.

My husband does best when he has a routine. (It makes travel … um … interesting)

It can also help to have:

    • a whiteboard calendar to indicate what's happening today and what's coming up
    • a whiteboard on the fridge where I can put short reminders. For example, I have the name of a plant he consistently forgets on there (Protea). The word "Pants" might be useful.

On deliveries, they have just about quit requiring signatures for packages in this area of the U.S. unless they're going to a business. The delivery person just snaps a pic of the package and the door where it's placed to prove they dropped it off.

Here too. I think signatures are only required under special circumstances (registered mail maybe?).

    Machka that reclining butterfly would sure look different with my too tight hips ;}

Barbara, when I started doing the reclining butterfly, I started sitting upright on a yoga block (which makes them slightly easier) and I gradually got so I could sit on the ground and recline.

    https://www.healthline.com/health/butterfly-stretch

I also like the Pigeon Pose, but it's not good for people with knee issues and if it isn't one you're used to, get into the pose slowly. I used to do it in the middle of the long, long bicycle rides I would do when we'd stop for a short break. While the others might be sitting on the curb stuffing pastries in their mouths, I'd pop into the Pigeon Pose and eat that way!

Ladies- I sent two posts this afternoon that haven't appeared here yet and caught a little message that they had to be approved.

That has happened to me in the past when I've included numbers (123) in some pattern with dashes or slashes or something … or when I've included a combinations of numbers and letters as if I were giving an example of a good password.

    image.png

You can check your notifications to see if "they" have indicated what the problem was.

Car Races: My husband and I used to love going to the speedway. But we haven't been since his accident. I think the noise would bother him and he has expressed reluctance any time I've brought it up as a possible outing.

    He loved the Sprint Cars.

Folding Bicycles: My husband and I have Bike Fridays, which are great for taking on flights, but I'm not sure whether we could take them on the bus here … and then what do we do with them at the destination.

Salt + crunch: If I get such a craving, I go for dill pickles. I can only eat 1 or 2 of them and then I'm done. But that satisfies the craving.

    image.png

Hats: my husband wears a baseball cap when he's working, but only a specific kind. See us back in 2016 in Brisbane (pre-accident).

Otherwise he'll wear a straw hat in the summer and tweed cap in winter.

We used to have the best conversations about things like this.😥 I don't expect to ever have chats like this with another guy again, but who knows.

Lanette … Maybe you can have chats like that with a woman instead!

In a book I read about this medication, the problem is when people go off of it, the weight does slowly come back. And most of the weight that returns is pure fat. So then the cycle continues trying to lose that weight again and its harder to lose.

Rebecca … I wonder what would happen if the person really got into exercising while taking the medication, and continued or increased the amount of exercise after they went off the medication.

Tracey … your hair looks good curly. 😊

Annie … sorry about your dog. 🙁

Some of the classes might be online. Some of my online classes had times for group discussions about the material. That might help.

    image.png

Lisa … I thought you had some RV living experience. I sort of vaguely remembered that you lived in an RV behind a warehouse quite a number of years ago.

Looking forward to something like that could definitely be used for motivation.

We paid $75,000 for the house we live in, which we purchased seven years ago this week.

I nearly fell off my chair when I read that!!

You know the house you've knocked down next door … that's a $75,000 house.

This (in the picture) is a $100,000 house … almost the least expensive house in Tasmania. I think there's a $90,000 option but that one doesn't show interior pictures so you know it's bad.

    https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-tas-rosebery-147816468

Barbara … your OMG room and my home office. 😕

But I did some thinking about my home office. Specifically … what is holding me up? What is keeping me from organising that room?

For the answer, I had to walk into the room and look, and walk out, and walk back in and look, and walk out, and walk back in and look, and walk back out …

    image.png

I came to the conclusion that for something to happen in that room, I need space. I can barely walk into the room. The middle is stacked high with boxes containing books, mostly, I think. I have shelves for the books, but the shelves have the wrong things on them (not books), and I can't get to the shelves because of all the boxes in the middle of the room. Essentially, what I have is one of the tile sliding toys from way back when but it is full of tiles and so I can't move any.

In order for me to have a bit of space into which I can move some of the boxes, the garage needed to be emptied, or at least partially emptied so that I can take the stuff in the hallway and put it in the garage where it will live. That will give me some space in the hallway and I might be able to make a start.

In order for the garage to be emptied, my husband needed to finish putting together sheds. He had just finished that and the garage is slowly being emptied. So I'm getting there.
