Grounding: Anyone ever hear of the grounding trend? That is taking the time to stand barefoot, no socks, in the grass for an hour or so. It is supposed to calm you, and have some other medical benefits. We watched a show on this. Interesting, but I won't do it here. Too many things in the dessert want to bite you!
Yes, the grounding or earthing trend has been around for quite a few years - I think I first came across it in the 1990s in a modern upsurge, but of course it has been around for decades or centuries before that.
Remember Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts gets Richard Gere to walk barefoot in the grass?
Grounding, forest bathing, spending time near blue spaces (like the sea or a lake), etc. are all about spending more time in nature, connecting with nature, and allowing nature to help us reduce stress and relax.
It's one of the reasons I like to walk barefoot in the sand along a local beach. ☺️
However, Australia is not usually the place to go walking on a lawn or through a forest in bare feet. I limit my bare feet to safe areas … but go barefoot as often as I can.

Morning, kids,
I was asleep in my chair when Corey got home from work last night. That PT business really wiped me out. There are things I want to do this morning, and I think I'll wait until I get those done before I do all the exercises from yesterday. Still quite achy, might ice the shoulder before I get outside.
The humidity was 94% and steady yesterday, and supposed to be the same today. Yuk. But I really need to get those doors out of my carport, and they really need one more coat of paint so… needs must. As soon as there's enough light, I'll get them done, and hope that a certain cat does not walk across them here at the last minute! 🐈⬛🤣😅 Been lucky so far.
Cor wasn't happy with me last night, as I didn't want dinner at all. It bothers him a lot when I'm just not hungry. Reminds him of the really sick years, I think.
Heather - Glad the Bose headphones are doing so well for you. Love seeing you get excited about your next cruise again! 😍
Machka - Corey prefers that type baseball cap, too. Hates the trucker-type with mesh at the back, as when he's under a vehicle, dirt falls through the mesh. Plus they fit too far away from his head, and he ends up in tight spaces.
Ginny - It's good to see you, figured you were pretty busy trying to get things wound up and begin the move. It's a big transition! Glad the news on your back was all good.
Barbara AHMOD - So glad your first class went well. I'm sure you're a great instructor.
Rebecca - Thought of you yesterday when I heard the new Skyrizi commercial tagline, "Control is Everything." Of course because your son is on it as well as me, but because that's such a key to seeing that scale number go down. Gaining control. I'm glad the Zepbound is working for you. Watching the Trulicity do such wonders for Allie has been fascinating, as well.
Well, laundry going, first of two loads. By the time the second is done and ready to go out on the line, I should be able to get out and get the things done that need doing this morning. It's already 73 and going up fast at 7:15.
The grass needs a little time to dry though, as I want to get those ditches under control. It might have to wait until tomorrow, as we were still getting rain yesterday. Will figure it out when I take the laundry out.
Later, my lovelies,

😀 Barbara, Before I could do any clearing of all the difficult clutter, I spent months listening to podcasts and reading books about clutter clearing. They helped me sort out the roadblocks I had to the process. Several people on this thread have suggestions of experts to read or listen to. I just finished reading "Outer Order, Inner Calm" by Gretchen Rubin (for the third time). Years ago I listened to The Minimalists. They have written several books about their personal pasts toward minimalism. A successful day for me is one where I can move one item either to the trash or give away box or clutter purgatory.
😀 Ginny, congrats on taking the next steps toward moving and retiring.
😀 Heather, how great to have the balance paid on your cruise. You have such great adventures.
😀 Michele, have you called a plumber to diagnose the water problem?
😀 Debbie, doing something expecting your husband to be pleased sounds like a lost cause. Do stuff for yourself, and if he is accidentally pleased by it, then it's a double win. My husband was clutter blind and either didn't notice when I tidied up or was offended that I might have touched his stuff or thrown away something important.
😀 Someone once told that if wanted to stop being unhappy, I should stop doing stuff that made me unhappy. Most good ideas are simple.
😀 It has been extra warm for several days. I didn't water yesterday evening because daughter phoned just as i would have been watering so I put if off til morning. If I leave early for my walk, I'll be able to water after the walk and before I have to log on to the Zoom meeting I host at 9.

Machka,
I guess its not all about the amount of exercise, but also about the way it changes how food gets processed. How glycogen gets triggered, and how our brain responds to that. Its a whole thing.🙃. Once I get to a weight that feels right, I will go on more of a maintenance dose not ever week, but ever 2 weeks. I have learned more this particular journey, than any other thing. What I like, what fuels, what meals to stay away from, that sort of thing. Its been life-changing.👍🏼😁

Good morning my friends!
Barbie yes I started listening to podcasts. I have earbuds that allow me to hear where Dad is and what he is up to.
Margaret thanks for the flowers!
Rebecca I do talk to strangers when I am feeling good. Yay for the new car!
Michele Wow that much water! Something is wrong. Hope you feel better by now.
Lanette my grandfather died young of a heart attack. I don't know how old they were. Glad your back is better.
Rita Yay for losing 2.2! I'm afraid to go barefoot outside. Yellow jackets!
Debbie glad you are enjoying sewing!
Sue I also do better with a limited diet.
Ginny glad you are relaxing and Yay for good test results!
Heather Yay for the cruise!
Machka good to have a plan to move the stuff.
Lisa you are taking good care of yourself, your house and your yard.
More later, but time to hustle Dad to his senior center.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Ginny - glad you could pop in. Good news on the MRI. Very excited for about your new place, sounds very nice.
Rebecca - great looking little car! Are you planning to drive it right away? I remember you hadn't driven your old one in a while.
Lisa - nice job keeping up with the shoulder PT exercises. Don't think I'd survive very long in that heat and humidity. Other than when it's raining, we rarely have the stifling high humidity here in the summer. As a matter of fact, my area is in fire danger status because of the hot days windy days coming up and low humidity. 30% by this afternoon.
Michele - hope you are feeling better today. Have they figured out where the supposed leak is? If it's a faulty meter, they'll be installing a new one for you. When we had the water leak, the water company "forgave" the huge usage and billed us the same as a year prior. As long as the homeowner can prove the water was lost due to a leak and not filling a swimming pool, for example, most utilities that I'm familiar in my area do this. Leaks happen.
Tracey and Barbara - Venus has been shining brightly in the early morning eastern sky - maybe sending some vibes to Rodger and Joe?😍 I just realized, in all the years and places we lived, we never once had any neighbors over to socialize or to share a meal. We'd have good friends over, never neighbors though. And we got along great with most of them.
Very windy around here yesterday, my internet went out late afternoon yesterday, as did the power in a community close to me. All fixed by about 8:30.
The problem I was having with WORD yesterday - it suddenly doesn't like me to paste charts and graphs lifted from Gmail onto a WORD document. Some formatting glitch perhaps due to an update? Copilot suggested several fixes but I'm going to leave well enough alone since it's easy for me to deal with.
Got my early morning walk in. Said HI to the doe grazing on Roger's drain field and picked a quart of blueberries. Yesterday she parked 2 fawns under the branches of one of my firs near the shop - I saw them wander over to Roger's to "hide" under the blueberry bushes around noon but by evening, they were back hiding.
Collette is coming this morning. I have plenty of windows open and my house is getting chilly right now, but once the sun starts blazing it will heat up quickly. She has 2 more houses after mine that don't have AC. Predicted high in the low 90's.
Better scoot for now. A few more things to pick up before she arrives = dog toys, dog beds.

Had either a panic attack or heat stroke yesterday afternoon. Started sweating profusely, got light headed and dizzy. Felt like passing out! I sat for a bit, then moved to bed. Stayed there and slept from about 4 pm until this morning at 7. Only got up once to go pee. IDK. Better but still a bit dizzy this morning. When I got home from working at the Visitor Center, DH decided we were going to move the RV back over a sight. Why? IDK. All the sites are about the same to me. During that move, his anger turned into rage and that triggered the spell I had. He never notices when I get sick like that. Men!!

Peonies are from the ones I put in the refrigerator about a month ago!
Watched some YouTube videos about Kidney Disease. After learning more about it I learned as healthy as my diet is there are things in it that with kidney disease I need to limit or eliminate for now if possible. Foods high in phosphorus, protein, salt, and oxalate. At the stage I am at potassium is not a current issue.
So I need to reduce or eliminate full fat dairy, cheese, red meat, rhubarb, beets, chocolate. What is working is all my other numbers weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar are all good to excellent so that take pressure off my kidneys. I do not take ibuprofen which can be bad for kidneys.
I think the leg cramping has been one of the signs as is the easy bruising of my hands.
I have read mixed on the quecertin. Taking it before I go to bed has helped with the cramping and getting up to go to the bathroom so I will continue it until I get my diet more in line with a better diet for kidneys. A more heavy plant based diet is recommended. In September I will request another test of my kidney function.
Too much phosphorus is actually bad for your bones. You need the right balance of calcium and phosphorus to build bones properly. Phosphorus is very high in many processed foods! Meat is worse than seeds and nuts. If it is plant based less is absorbed.

Lisa,
So glad Skyrizi is working for you! Youngest son is done with his hospital infusions and now has the injection pens that he will start in 4 weeks. He said he still has meals and afterwards he's like, well never eating that again, let me go die in the bathroom. So its still trial and error with what he eats. Now my bag of real bacon bits for his white stick rice was done in a couple days. He was eating them like little chips, the nut.

My poor son was horribly delayed on his train again. We had to take an Uber home. The tracks don't like the heat. Last week the journey from London took 4 hours. :-()
I am a bit discombobulated because Saga are releasing the excursions this Thursday at 9 am. It'll be a bit of a rush as John is going out for lunch with his cricket friend. The main one we want is an early free tour of Cadiz, so we can spend the rest of the day just independently wandering. Then the hikes and a RIB. Then everything else. Ooooh! They normally wait until a bit nearer the cruise, but here we go.
I had a quick chat with DDIL. Edie is going camping with the school at the weekend. The parents are going to another wedding. DDIL's parents are going to stay over to babysit Max and Bea. Sadly, DDIL's father has had a major skin cancer operation on his face, plus in a few other places. And very recently a prostate cancer operation. I saw a photo of his face. Big job. I expect seeing the kids will take his mind off things, but he is very tired. He is 80 in December. So both parents have a father to worry about.
I will try to send a card over to him. But also v hard on the wife. Getting old is not for wimps.

A couple more pictures from the beach.I have a key to there place and went to pick up the stuff I needed to return,
Tracy just told me that Kyle doesn't want me in the house when nobody is home..,
So I will respect his wishes but sheesh..
5 -
Do you have kidney disease?
2 -
Allie - nothing I say about Kyle would be useful, so I won't. Just hope Tracy is OK, and the kids, as well.
Rebecca - Thank you! The higher dose is definitely changing how my body is working, and I'm on week two now since that first dose at 360mg, and can see some positive changes. I'll be talking to my gastroenterologist on Friday, should be interesting. Your son will find out that for quite a while, it really won't matter what he SHOULD eat, just what he CAN eat that his body can hold onto. It just takes time and experimentation, unfortunately. Everyone who has Crohn's has different foods that work for them. If your body doesn't like broccoli, it will tell you, often very quickly, as he's find out. Adding only one different food at a time is helpful.
Heather - You've got it right that getting old is not for wimps, but it's also not easy on the those who love them. I think of your sister-in-law often, dealing with everything in her family, as well as the unrelenting worry about your brother.
Did well today, got through all the physical therapy exercises, even some that I wasn't capable of finishing yesterday. Back to the PT offices tomorrow, then gastro on Friday.
Got the three doors done, got much of the sanding done in the back room, two loads of laundry all the way to getting it put away, and cleaned up the kitchen, as well. Busy, but productive day. Talked to my best friend for an hour, then at length with my daughter, who is dealing with a pre-teen daughter who wants to dye her beautiful blonde hair brown, because people think she's stupid because "everyone thinks blondes are stupid."
I have only the advice of "pick your battles," for her tussle with her daughter. Dyeing her hair is very mild in the scheme of things.
Corey's home - Cajun chicken and air fried potatoes for dinner. Sounds awfully yummy, and smells yummy too.

dh has been complaining about the clutter in the living room. Said that is why he didn't sit in there anymore. Will see if that changes. I doubt it, now that he has a second room to hang out along with our bedroom-which he hasn't been in for a week or more.
Woke up this morning and started feeding the cats like always, got the food ready for the old grandma cat because she is usually the one starving and crying for food. Found her passed away in the recliner. We knew it was only a matter of time. I was sure she was going to pass away the day my MIL did but she lasted over 2 weeks after that. I wrapped her up in a soft pillow case and this evening I will bury her next to all the other cats that have passed. Dh is ordering a headstone for her. This picture is the day we brought her in after being an outside/stray for many years. She was inside for almost 6 yrs.
Now there will be a whole lot less laundry/garbage because she went through SOOOO many pee pads every day. Only weighed 6lbs this last year or so but ate constantly and peed/pooped constantly and never in a litter box. I will NOT miss all of that.10 -
😀🌞 Super hot today. I walked very early so I'd have time to water when I got home. My new hose arrived mid afternoon so I hooked it up and watered the little trees on that side of the house. The hose is wonderful and I'm delighted so I'm glad I bought it.
🌞 My dog walking friend first said she couldn't walk this afternoon, then said she could, then 30 minutes before we were scheduled to leave, she decided that it was too hot so she'd stay home. Why do I keep walking with her? Because the dogs love her and they are my top consideration.
😀 I am reading "The Crow Trap", the first book in the series that inspired the show "Vera" on Brit Box.. The book is great but the TV version has understandably made significant changes. There are 11 books in the series so I have a lot to look forward to.
😥 Debbie, so sorry about your grandma cat.

Margaret - those peonies did really well in your fridge. Did they keep their scent?
Allie - Delia is growing so fast and SMiles is now a young boy - doesn't seem like a child anymore. WOW! I barely recognize him. Thanks for sharing the pix. I feel like they are "our" grandkids like Heather's, Carol's, Lisa's, Tracey's, Rebecca's and others. It's been neat to watch them all grow up. If we stick around long enough, we might be seeing photos of THEIR babies some day.😁
Pip - I remember seeing photos of Yogi in those pools. He gets to visit them yet again. 😍 Lovely area, by the way.
Heather - glad you are getting things set up for your Saga cruise, and that it all worked out after you had to cancel due to your hip surgeries. Crossing fingers you get the Cadiz tour you are looking forward to.
Debbie - I have a little tomato plant like your "Tiny Tim" and I see some tomatoes turning red. Exciting! Sorry about your old kitty - you guys gave her a very good home in her final years.
Barbie - it got up to 90F at my house. Currently 88F. Since I got the house thoroughly chilled early this morning the heat pump didn't come on until around 2. Now that I've watched the Vera series at least three times, maybe it's time to re-read the books. It's been years. Thanks for the reminder!

Machka - I don’t do so well on ferries either.
Barbara - I bet you’ll be wonderful at teaching.
Allie - I don’t know how Tracy puts up with it all.
It must hurt you terribly having to witness your daughter’s life.Lisa - I don’t know how I would give up my craft area. It really is my sanity.
Margaret - the fires are terrible. So many people have lost their homes from it.
Rita - I’ve heard about that grounding. I love walking barefoot in the grass.
Ginny - what date is your final day? It must be exciting.
Michele - that stomach issue doesn’t sound good.
Rebecca - how exciting a new car!
Barbara - I love to dance but I struggle terribly with directions to dance in a certain manner. I would be anxious with too many turns too. You’ve got this!
Debbie - Rodger notices is I’ve cleaned, but usually because he asks if I’m mad at him. 😂
If I say, “this house is a disaster” and take to cleaning not a word gets said.
Sorry about your cat.Allie - Kyle needs to get over himself. I feel bad that Tracy can’t seem to get out of the mess.
Tracy and the kids look like they are having a good time.Lisa - your granddaughter needs to be introduced to some powerful, smart blondes. Dolly comes to mind.
I agree though that dying her hair is a minor battle in the battles that can come.
Corey’s tomatoes look good.
A resident’s husband told me today that he puts a small fan on his tomato plants when they are first coming up out of the soil from seeds. He says this makes stronger stalks and they handle the outside better.
I don’t garden veggies, but know lots that do and I haven’t heard this before.I stayed at work a bit late tonight. Our alarm system needed a repair and when they attempted to fix it yesterday the whole panel was ruined. They fixed it today but needed another 1/2 hour after closing. My manager didn’t get much sleep last night dealing with this, so I offered to stay.
My first lily bloomed today. I’m hoping several more of them bloom at the same time. This is the most blooms I’ve ever seen on it.

We have harvested 1 early girl tomato and have some sunsugar cherry tomatoes that are almost ripe but we are picking loads of blueberries. I had fresh blueberries with my yogurt this morning. Carrots were a bust. Slugs got them all. Potatoes seem to be coming along and we finally have some apples on our tree after 2 years with none.

Edie had great results in her SATS tests at the end of the year. She was pretty pleased with herself, because she has a little bit of writing dyslexia which has affected her confidence in the past. She came top of the whole school in reading, and second in maths. Her arm is healed now and she has resumed her cello, and bike riding.
Max passed Grade Four piano with distinction. He finds sightreading difficult, but his other scores were almost perfect. His school report was amazing, full of Es for Excellent.

Morning, my chicks,
Busy morning ahead. I was able to get my Kicks back in the carport last night, but now I need to clean the carport, so I'll have to pull it back out again!
Need to also get the push mower down to mow the ditches, and I need to get the trimming done this morning. Will need to mow tomorrow, most like. Have to balance how much heat and humidity I can take and how much time I can give grass to dry.
Dry and sunny days ahead, but not until after 10 a.m. or so - the humidity is 98% this morning. It's like walking into a swamp, the air is just so damp that if you walk out with cool skin, the moisture literally condenses on YOU. Not sweat. Condensation. Afternoons outside are just unbearable, at 90 to 100 F (32 - 37 C) and 65% humidity.
All that said, I woke up feeling good. It's just so amazing after the years of dragging myself out of bed. I have aches and pains, sure, but my baseline is starting out feeling good, and I'm so grateful.
Rita - that panic attack/heat stroke episode sounds awful! I hope the therapy appointment was helpful in dealing with how you feel about your very angry DH not even noticing your distress.
Tracey - It's so lovely seeing you working at a place where you are willing to stay and give a little extra time rather than needing desperately to escape every day. Your lilies are going to look absolutely lovely when they're all open.
Heather - I've said it before and I'll say it again. I wish I had memories of grandparents like you and John. Your grands will have wonderful memories of the two of you and your presence in their lives.
The deer took the last of Corey's peaches but two, but this is the first year he was able to get any fruit tree to bear. My fig has lots of fruit on it, but don't know if they will mature before the birds and deer get them. His garden patch is fully fenced, top and sides, so they can't get in there now. He'd left one end open until some critter got in and ate all his carrot tops last year, so now that's closed off too. Open large weave, so the bees and other pollinators can get in, but the bigger critters are out.
Time to get a few things done inside, and then head outside. Physical therapy appointment this afternoon, but trying to forget about that so it doesn't deter me from getting stuff done this morning. If I think about it too much, my weird appointment thing will kick in, where I can't get anything started in case I miss the appointment. 😜
Later y'all,
Love from the damp and squidgy Arkansas River Valley,Lisa

Good morning my friends!
Lanette seeing fawns is magical!
Rita take care of yourself! That dizzy spell is worrisome.
Margaret Yay for peonies from the fridge!
Rebecca best wishes for youngest on his journey. Some people can eat whatever, but some of us take years of trial and error to find food that works without issues.
Heather hope the skin cancer patient recovers quickly.
Pip those are lovely pools!
Debbie so sorry to hear about your grandma cat. I sure she was grateful for the care she received from you.
Heather academic talent is something to be celebrated just like athletic or musical talent. Sometimes it gets forgotten because there aren't trophies or events. Or it becomes the expected level.
I read an excellent book "Punk 57" by Penelope Douglas. I thought it would be inapplicable because it was high school, but it was about belonging and being true to yourself.
I have a bunch of light bulbs to replace but the ladder makes me nervous. I might work on that today. At least figure out what new bulbs to buy.
And I need to call about that rower. I hate to make a fuss, but I have nothing to lose by calling.
Geez I sound like a timid little old lady. I used to be a military officer! I lost a lot of my mojo.
Have a fantastic day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!
