Alot of it reminds me of Tom,but the last 3-4 years was alot of guilt on his end.
We talked at Bills funeral, his cousin Becky just can't stand him ,for what he did,I forgave a long time ago..I don't forget but we all get along..and he has learned alot of copping from me over the years..dealing with his dad and family.
Billy while he was in the hospital, said to the family ,That I will always be part of the family, which made me feel good..I know the rest of the family feels the same.
Even Elena knows that we had 20+ yrs together and there are family ties
You have to remember Tracy has been with him since she was 17 or so..and for sure he has issues..It kills me to see how he treats her and the kids..but not much I can do or say.
Well im going for a mani pedi today which will be lovely

Lanette Unfortunately the peonies do not have much smell. These pink are from a thirty year old plant that I got a start from my mother-in-law so they still have a scent when I cut them fresh from the garden. My newer ones I bought within the last 5 years not so much.
M according to my Creatine and my kidney function at 59. If I just go by those numbers it is at the beginnings of stage 3a. The problem with kidney disease it is often silent until it is at very late stages. That is what happened to my husband his kidney cancer was not found until a very late stage.
I am taking a low dose of the Quercertin. 250mg. I had my first night of no leg cramping in the morning. My heel with its plantar fasciitis is feeling better too. In my research of Quercertin they say stay under 1000mg. It is making me to take another look at the vitamins I take and any foods even those that are said to be healthy. From the net…"Foods rich in quercetin include capers, red onions, kale, apples, grapes, berries, cherries, citrus fruits, broccoli, and green tea. Quercetin is a flavonoid, a type of antioxidant, found in many fruits and vegetables. It's also available as a supplement." Also from the net..Other notable sources of quercetin include:
- Tomatoes: Especially cherry tomatoes, which have a high skin-to-flesh ratio.
- Buckwheat: A grain that is a good source of quercetin.
- Red Wine: Contains quercetin and other beneficial antioxidants.
- Shallots: A mild onion with a good amount of quercetin.
- Asparagus: Cooked asparagus contains quercetin.
- Pistachios: A nut that contains quercetin.
- Black Tea: Another tea that provides quercetin.
Tips for maximizing quercetin intake:
- Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables: A diverse diet ensures you get a good range of nutrients, including quercetin.
- Choose red and purple produce: These often contain higher levels of quercetin.
- Leave skins on fruits and vegetables when possible: Many beneficial compounds, like quercetin, are concentrated in the skins.
- Consider lightly cooking vegetables: While some quercetin can be lost in cooking water, lightly cooking can make some vegetables easier to digest and may increase absorption.
- Enjoy tea and red wine in moderation: These beverages offer a tasty way to add quercetin to your diet.
Some of these foods are high in oxyalates so I need to be aware of that too!
I did read that quercetin is can be helpful with respiratory issues. Considering how bad our smoke was for four days for me it is another reason to take it.
I do eat a number of foods containing quercetin so I know I have to keep any supplemental dose low.
What surprises me is my doctor when looking at those numbers did not say more than drink more water. I needed to tell her how bad those leg cramps were maybe then she would have looked more closely at my diet.
This all being said I am realizing moderation is also the part of the key to my diet change. I admit because I gave up almost all processed food I was eating way too much chocolate and nuts telling myself I have lost weight and gave up all cookies, cakes, and breads that I can have more chocolate and nuts. Wrong!

Annie - You know I'm ex-military, and I hate those calls, too.
Allie - We do not blame you for Tracy's situation—and I never blame abused women who don't leave their abusers. The reasons aren't understandable by anyone outside that relationship. Only she knows why she stays. Tracy will find her way out of the relationship or she won't—but all you can be is a helping, non-judging place for her to turn. That really is it. I'm well aware that isn't easy on you. His saying he doesn't want you in the house alone is a very clear abuser's tactic to isolate her. Just keep reaching out. It's all you can do.
Well, I tried, but I walked outside and then just turned around and walked back in. So, I'm getting rugs washed and floors done inside. It needed doing… So, time to go run the vacuum in the living room and bedroom. Egg will not be pleased. She's under my desk, in the cool, but will cut and run as soon as that vacuum cleaner starts.
Ah well.
Onward and upward! Which, by the way, ALWAYS reminds me of:

I watched a video on a woman who substituted cashews for all her chips and other junk food. She ended up with a kidney function reading of 24. She did not get kidney stones but the oxalate from the cashews settled in her kidneys. She did not eat enough calcium to bind with the oxalate. Cashews are high in oxalate.
As I have made these diet changes in my life and I believe for the most part for the better I realize there is always more to learn and like M has said to do my research and be ready to change my mind and actions as I learn more.

margaretturk I'm at stage 3A of CKD. I go to my Renal doctor the end of the month. Had to pick up bloodwork orders for that yesterday. I take magnesium supplements for leg cramps. As long as I take that, no Charlie Horses. I read labels all the time. I've found that generic cereal are FULL of potassium so don't buy them anymore. I only have Old Fashioned oatmeal for breakfast. I found reading labels and reading the kidney.org websites keeps me on track. I'l say it as well, research all the time. Things change every day. But the phosphoros restriction will not.
Went to therapist and felt better after talking it out with her yesterday. I do have her email and can contact her there if I need her between sessions. So that's good. While there, DH went to Home Depot. When I got out, he had bought me a new bed lamp for reading and apologized for yesterday's outburst. Between that and the therapist, I felt much better. It was a panic attack that I had yesterday. Once I stopped thinking and just started controlled breathing, dizziness and excess sweating cleared up. Going to bed also helped b/c I was away from the source. Thank you all for your care.

John and I both had a good day today!
I chatted in French for around an hour and a half. I made loads of mistakes, and my mind went blank quite often, as it reached for Spanish instead of French. ☺️ Oouuff! Sometimes it feels to me as if I'm staggering along, lurching as if I'm drunk, with big gaps in memory. But I plough on, and nobody seems to mind. Most people there are of a similar level to me, with a couple of French speakers, or fluent people thrown into the mix. On the way home, I got off the bus at Canhams and bought three Scotch Eggs, one of which I had for lunch. I bought a big tray of British strawberries in the deli, to have with cream for dessert tonight.
John picked out some piano jazz for Max to listen to. They had some great discussions and listened to several versions of 'Georgia On My Mind' while Max picked out some accompaniment. Then they had a go at filling in some crossword blanks that John had printed out. I left my digital watch for him, that I bought when my watch was being repaired. He was very happy to have it. They went round the corner to the local café for lunch, and walked back along the seafront. His mother said he came back 'high' and had such a wonderful time. That made John feel good.
So, double triumph! 😁
Max said he was taking a sailing course on Friday, 'to refresh my skills'. ☺️
Love the cushions, Lisa. 🤩

This is what I think of as 'my Poirot building' on the way to St Anne's Well Gardens. I love the font of the sign. If you had a high floor apartment, you would see right over Hove to the sea.
Do any of you watch Poirot on TV? I much prefer the earlier one hour series.

That building is very Poirot-esque.
Yes, I am currently watching the series with Suchet. The earlier episodes seemed more light-hearted and quirky. They are quite dark where I am now in the series, and the episodes are longer, as you mentioned.
I just love John and Max's relationship. So beautiful and good for both of them.

Just a quick check in before I go back into panic cleaning mode. When I asked Joe where this visitors will sit, Joe said “Now, don’t go all crazy.” He knows me so well. But it would help me to know which chairs I have to vacuum… ;} Joe set up the adult beverages and glasses and is done. ;} Here’s my Liz Taylor-visitors-coming-today-panic-cleaning to do list. X marks what I did yesterday. Will be lucky to get through #15 and prep snack plate before leaving to teach line dance newbies.
Heather thanks for the ok to just look.
Machka thanks for the suggestion to look and ask myself what’s holding me back. Also for the tight hip links. What you said about in order to do A, B must happen first. In order to do B, C must happen first. Oh yeah. Maybe . . .
Only through pg 17 but must leap up, break fast, prep snacks and knock off a few more from the list. But first…
Day 1 progress: ok Heather I’m standing up and filing or discarding all the papers on the keyboard. Thanks!
Action for happiness
Spoiler Warning
15- prep for Wednesday’s newbie class including printing out All About that Bass.
16-When panicking about Joe’s visitors coming, practice newbie dances.
Later, lighter, lovelies

Bravo Barbara!!! So often we think we have to do the whole thing. No. Remember where that single step gets you.
Flea - if you read about it on Wikipedia, it tells you there was a change of director and producer and therefore a huge change of styles and cast. For the worse me thinks. Art Deco is my favourite period.

Rita I have some magnesium gylcinate on order from the supplement company I order from coming this Saturday. A friend recommend that type because it is better absorbed than some of the other types. My blood work stated my levels were okay for magnesium. I will ask my phosphorus levels be checked next time if I continue to have problems. I am starting to limit those foods like meat, dairy, and nutsI was over doing.
Again I will talk to my doctor why more wasn't said. The better informed I am the better I will be able to speak up for myself.

Yep. He is presently not owned by anyone, totally in limbo. His "parent command" is Coronado but he's living in Balboa so for a couple days he was "phone mustering" but they were like, we'll just give you back to the hospital people. Hospital is like you don't have to do anything for us here. Besides going to appointments, taking his meds, eating, he's like just chilling. But he's getting paid, and getting treatment, and his meds are free so keep telling him to look on the bright side.💖
He enjoyed his sweatshirt. My eldest son had bought it for me from the ramen place we go to here on the island. Its way too small, so gave it to youngest.
its very slouchy on him, but its a comfortable thing.

Barbara - Joe's comment "don't go all crazy" (Liz Taylor visitors coming) made me chuckle. DH used to say "don't worry. It's not like the queen is coming."
Rita - so glad to hear you are feeling better.
Heather - I had wondered if you ever got your French and Spanish mixed up — reaching for a French word and the Spanish pops up or vice versa. 😁 Sounds like it does! Ah, a Poirot building. Very nice! I loved Poirot and need to watch it again. I thought David Suchet did a fabulous job.
Lisa - impressive tomato yield so far. Did Corey plant them in a raised bed?
Sue - OK, I'm envious of your ripe tomatoes too!
This super hot weather has a lot of little tomatoes appearing on the vines within the past few days. Most of them are some type of grape or cherry. 😁 So maybe in a few weeks….
About kidneys and labs…
With the recent discussion on here about lab values and kidney function, I grabbed my latest lab results from this past April. My creatinine was .58, the lowest it has ever been and it was flagged on the report. BUN was fine at 20 - up a bit in the past few years. The BUN/Creatinine ratio was flagged at above high normal at 34. I asked Dr. Lisa about it. She said in looking at other things measured including eGFR, my kidneys are fine. What this is probably showing is the increase in protein in my diet, added to drinking a lot of coffee = diuretic and not drinking enough water to replace the loss. Her recommendation - keep protein under 100 gm/day and increase water. And keep cutting back on coffee.
When I decided to change my diet over a year ago to lower carb due to the pre-diabetes, I upped protein a lot - mainly animal protein. From the rabbit holes I went down this morning with Copilot, animal protein can burden kidneys a bit, so swapping some of that out for plant protein should bring things back into normal range. Animal protein creates more uric acid; plant protein is more alkaline. Animal protein's phosphorus is more bio-available than plant protein. See Rita's comments about phosphorus in an earlier post today.
So I've spent this morning meal planning and including more beans, quinoa, etc. in my diet and cutting back on excessive meat. I'm ending up with higher carbs, but these carbs also have fiber and protein so shouldn't adversely impact blood sugar like candy or cake would.
I want to add - this is the result of research pertaining to my health in conjunction with advice from my doctor. It might not pertain to anyone else.😁
It's a toasty 97F here right now. Humidity 21%, but not real windy. Hens are doing fine in the shade, ice cubes in their water and a big "ice cube" of their feed mixed with water and a little birdseed thrown in put in a bowl in their run. They like it! Anyhow, should be at least 10 degrees cooler tomorrow.

Had a nice small pizza using be protein based crust. It was ultra thin but it stood up to me putting 1/4 cup of sauce, sausage bits, black olives and two slices of havarti cheese! Here's the numbers:
Heres my haircut yesterday.
Its a #3 buzz a round the back and sides with the "island" part longer.
Tomorrow we pick up the car, go shopping! I was supposed to get my teeth cleaned but the dentist's office called today to confirm appointment for 10 am and we were like, the appointment time you wrote down on this card is 1 pm! They said,"oh we had to change that". Well no we can't make the 10 am appointment, we will be off island then! Silly dentist's office people!

🌞 Warm again today. I woke up early enough to go for an early walk and be back in time to do all the watering before a 9AM online commitment. Even so, a lot of the plants look droopy. I'll water even more thoroughly tomorrow. My dog walking friend cancelled again at the last minute.
😀 Heather, many years ago I took a French composition and conversation class. I did well with the composition because I could take my time and figure out what I wanted to say, but conversation was much more difficult for me. There was a woman in the class that struggled with the composition but she chattered away easily in the conversation part of the class casually slipping in Spanish, German, or English when she didn't have the words in French. I found that my French wasn't very useful in Quebec because the French was a bit different there but served me very well in Tahiti.
😥 Carol, so sorry about your son's dog.
😀 Barbara, One of the chapters in Oliver Burkeman's "Meditations for Mortals" is about something he calls Scruffy Hospitalily where he makes the case for being more relaxed and casual about preparations for company.
😉 I took the finished knitted blanket and three knitted hats to Project Linus today. I sat and talked to the ladies there about knitting and crocheting. I'd have stayed longer but it was so hot that I couldn't leave Annie in the car for too long.

Lisa: Of all the crafts you've shown us, I think those pillows are my favorite.
Allie: Glad you are taking care of yourself. Mani-pedi is on my to-do list for this week.
Heather: Whenever you mention scotch eggs, I can clearly remember walking into a few of the neighborhood shops with you. Amazing place where you live.
Debbie: Grandma cat was a beauty. How blessed she was to have your love and care for so long.
Rita: re grounding- I spend about 15 mins a day sitting on the grass with Mars and I usually take off my sandals and do some stretches. It's not 30 mins of walking but I do feel good even after just a little bit of time with my soles in the grass. Think I heard somewhere that feet are the most sensitive part of our bodies.
Barbara: I have an OMG corner in my one car garage. It has DHs toolbox and home improvement supplies I'll probably never use. All other decluttering comes easily to me but for some reason I'm stuck here.
Lanette: "Learn French with Paul Noble" is an audiobook I've been using everyday to refresh my French. Like you, everything I learned 50 years ago, but never applied it. Now, with a trip to Morocco on the horizon, I'm motivated to be able to converse if needed. I like the audiobook format better than Duolingo. Headphones help too.
All good here. I'm enjoying our warm dry weather. Have been thrift shopping for a few pieces for upcoming trip to upstate NY. And am looking forward to a birthday party for one of 'the girls' who turns 70 tomorrow. I'll be bringing GF cupcakes from a posh bakery to the Mexican restaurant where we are meeting. Stay well friends. We can do this.
