😀 I went to college for five years right out of college leaving with a BS in Sociology/Anthropology and an MEd in Elementary Education. A year before I graduated from high school my grandmother sold the home she'd lived in for decades and split the proceeds between my sister and me for our college expenses. Thanks to a variety of circumstances (work at college and a small scholarship and frugal habits on my part), the money lasted all five years. We lived in California and my undergraduate school was in Minnesota and graduate in Maryland. My sister went to college near San Francisco and lived a more spendy lifestyle. Had she not been killed in an auto accident in her junior year, I doubt that her money would have lasted four years. I have never lost sight of how fortunate I was.
😀 Today is the neighbourhood yard sale. The people across the street are participating which is giving the dogs many opportunities for barking. Fortunately this is a once a year event.
😀 Barbara, A lot of the emotionally charged things I still have to sort and discard are stored in the dance room. Every Friday when my friend and I dance I look at the closet, shelves, and file cabinet as we dance and think about what I can get rid of next. As the result of that, I can sometimes discard a book or file or sort through some things. There's a lot of thinking and mulling that precedes the actual discarding of something. Yesterday I was able to put the contents of two files into the shredding box and begin sorting some books. Anything I do is considered a win.
😀 Annie, someone's yard sale items included a rowing machine. I thought of you and thought momentarily of buying it. I hope you are getting good use out of your mowing machine. Can you row and listen to an audiobook or podcast?
😀 Calendars—I have only a wall calendar for appointments. I am fortunate that all the medical and dental people send text reminders (sometimes more than one).
😀 Forgetting, On the occasions when I forget to do something, I momentarily worry about my brain, then make a plan to be more mindful of what I have to do. I have a list on the fridge of things I want to be sure to do today. I treat myself like a child in kindergarten or an adult in a facility by reminding myself every morning what day it as what I have to do. it works.
😀 I could do yard work or I could vacuum today, but I'll probably go for another walk and see more of what my neighbours on other streets are selling. It will be a good social event for me.

Heather - I am missing country life the older I get. As a young get person I wanted to be in town so the girls could attend things after school. Growing up I was never allowed because I would miss the bus home.
It’s sounds like you’ll have great excursions.I had never thought of it that’s way. Private schools weren’t a thing where I’m from.
I struggled through school, I probably have a touch of ADHD, my daughter told me I was taught and punished that I mask it very well. She’s probably right. I think if I had received more praise and encouragement rather than the do betters and wasting my potential I would have enjoyed school and finished it.
Machka - I didn’t care for the NB/PEI ferry. I was given many opportunities to do the NS/NFLD but declined sometimes at the last minute because I didn’t think I could handle the ferry.
Lisa - Yay for the sleep in! I had a Fitbit years ago and developed an allergy to the band. I didn’t miss it when it was gone.
I never would have thought of doing that for pillow forms. I’m going to have to tell my daughter.
Beth - I bet your husband loves your new truck.
2-3 days between visits is pretty good. I think some families play themselves out trying to visit daily, some even more than once a day. It’s a lot to manage.I waitressed for the first few years of my adulthood. My cousin owned restaurant on the highway, we used to get a lot of tourists from Quebec, some of them couldn’t speak a word of English and I couldn’t speak French, especially some dialects of the Quebec French. We always seemed to get an order together though. I once had a French man ask for wa-wa. That was a laugh for all of us him included.
Lanette - I like my job even more today as I got a raise!
I had a friend that would overstay her welcome quite frequently. I just ended up being point blank and saying I need it to be a short visit because I have things to do.Lisa - We have the same issue here with Trades and degrees.
I actually have been following Mike Rowe and his scholarships to get people into the trades. We need an advocate and scholarship program like that here.I love the new glasses!
Margaret - I don’t know how people can say cruel things and be comfortable doing so.
Rebecca - Rodger ruined one of his injections one time too. It’s hard to get it replaced.
Love the new wheels.Terri - thanks for sharing your story.
Barbara - I’m so happy you had a good visit. I think friends are important as we age.
Carol - I understand the feeling of forgetting something and getting worried that it’s a bigger issue. I always worried because Dad’s side of the family was plagued with it, but just hoped I would take after Mom’s side. Now that Mom has it and so did one of her first cousins. I worry even more. When I was so stressed I struggled with memory, it never really came back, come to find out it is also a menopause symptom and since I started HRT I’m starting to get better.
I still worry for the future but home that science has found cures by the time I’m there. There has been some progress in understanding the disease.Education - I quit school 3 days before going to grade 11. I always knew I wanted to work and never be dependent on a man. I also knew that I would never be able to afford to go to school. I thought, wrongly, at the time that my Dad’s credit wouldn’t allow me to get a student loan so never even thought that college or university was an option.
In the summer of 1994 I received my GED in the State of Maine. NB wasn’t going to have the test available in time for me to take a course I wanted to take in September
I then took the computer operator course that included business communication and accounting. It was paid for by Employment Insurance as the restaurant I had been working at closed and they offered the training to me.
I never thought about school again until 2023. I’m now regretting that I have a student loan, but I don’t regret that I can state I have a college diploma.Barbie - I think we should have a community type yard sale here. It would probably be successful.
Have fun!I tried Thursday and Friday evening to catch up but couldn’t seem to do it.

Annie … I agree that bragging is different than encouragement/praise from parents. But I also think that encouragement/praise from parents has gone off the rails in some homes, setting up unrealistic expectations and disappointments when those children are faced with real-world experiences.

The new car is too techie for me. It even has an auto engine shut off that pretty much resets every time we get in. So at stoplights the engine turns off then as you go forward you hear a little "verroom" as it quickly starts again and you go forward. There is a button to deactivate that. Poor husbands hands still go to turn the key, but its a keyless start, so lots to actively think about! I'm like, "I'm an old dog that won't learn new tricks" kind of mindset.

Hey, kids,
Tracey - Thanks for the compliment on the glasses. I keep getting shocked by them when I catch myself in the mirror. 😂 I asked Corey what he thought of them and he carefully explained to me that he sees them as functional items, not "beauty accoutrements." I told him a couple of women had said they looked "lovely," and his answer was "Women are weird."
Living with him is always a trip.
Barbie - Thank you, too, for that compliment, as well as everyone who's commented. I find neighborhood yard sales like that absolutely overwhelming.
Lanette - I am only now (five years after retiring) beginning to make baby steps toward believing that I don't have to be busy. If I'm not telling y'all what I'm doing, I'm telling Corey what I'm doing, or my sister on the phone, or my best friend, or my daughter. I'm trying VERY hard to STOP TRYING SO HARD, which is such an oxymoron that it's making my head hurt.
So, I won't tell y'all that he and I put in four hours of hard labor. Really I won't. But first I went and got the gas cans filled. Then I used the push mower until I ran out the battery, then I jumped on the big zero turn mower - did I mention that I got a battery gas can pump from Amazon and I love that thing? Stick a hose in the can, stick another hose in the gas tank of the mower, and press a button. I'm in love. No trying to throw heavy gas cans around.
Anyway, I got all the very thick, quite wet grass mowed in 2 and a half hours, and then handed the mower over to Corey, who had been trimming everything with the gas trimmer, and he even trimmed that massively long ditch along the front, which I really struggle with, as it's deep and terribly thick grass. He also ran the zero turn on the parts of the yard where I won't go because I flinch too much. While he was finishing up, I used the leaf blower to clean the grass off the bottom of the push mower, and then used it to clean off the carport. The leaf blower, that is, not the mower. 😜
Then we both took showers, ate lunch, and now… I'm relaxing. So is he.
He's better at it than I am.
Do love y'all…
Have a good rest of your weekend!

Just an aside - has anyone hear anything about Vickie in Nebraska? We heard a little from her when she first started her new job, and then radio silence. Hope all's OK. And Meg in Omaha, as well. Check in, y'all, if you see this. We worry about everyone, you know.

Today I am zapped of energy. Dealing with a head ache too. Was going to have a pedicure but naah, I still am kind of constipated, which is just my digestive system working slower which all the things I am whining about are the normal side effects of this med I am on.
So I put on a tee shirt that I have had for awhile but it always got tight. Its a cheery yellow, v neck with a small pocket on left side. The v always bunched up, and I just felt like a large yellow sausage woman. Its comfortable today. My Capri jeans used to be tight around my calves and now have a lot of room.
So with all the whining, I am trying to concentrate on good things!
My eating today is shrimp tossed in Old Bay, with cheesy noodles, and an 11 oz protein shake. Dinner is a small sausage, red bell peppers, olives pizza and a protein shake. I will be eating 42% protein, 34% carbs and 24% fats today, and trying to get in 90 oz liquids.
Saturday salutations (or what day it is for you) and hugs!

Came home from the soup kitchen to find that we don’t have a/c. Fortunately, the guy was here and a wire to something became hot and melted. So they put in the right parts and we now have a/c. Also, the guy from TruGreen was here. I was expecting more but he said that if we have someone put in the edging, they’ll reimburse us. I don’t know, we did it ourselves. First, tho, we want to wait for them to build the new deck because you KNOW that they’ll trample on the edging.
Went in the pool. The temp was 93. Not at all refreshing
No a/c so I made fudge for Vince. I was going to make a cake but decided that I really didn’t want to put on the oven...lol
Heather – so sorry about John and his tooth but glad it’s all taken care of
Saturday: worked then stopped at Food Lion. Went in the pool, church tonight. Jess called to say they had the animals loaded. In a way, I wish she was only bringing the cats. Cats and dogs have such a different schedule. Oh well….and sometimes Ganon can get jealous
Mo – yea for good Bps. I know you’ll do fantastic in school
Carol – how often do you have to get your license renewed? Here in NC if you are over 65, you need to get it renewed every 5 years. I’m due next year
Rebecca – that was the color of my first car! Good lookin
Barbara – our first cat got skunked TWICE. You would think after the first time he’d have learned to avoid those animals with a white stripe down the back, but NOOOOOO. He would lay on the rug, then get sick of the smell and move, move again, and again. He didn’t realize that the smell was coming from HIM.
Calendars: Vince and I have a google calendar. This way I can see if he’s entered something before I make another commitment. I do use a paper calendar, but the google one is the primary one. I use the paper one mainly for writing down what we’re going to have for dinner and my exercise plans
I can never understand the “participation award”. To me, everyone needs to learn that there are winners and there are losers and you need to be happy for everyone. Giving an award just because you participated to me is wrong. Getting an award because you did a good job, to me that’s great. If you get an award just for participating, what’s the incentive to do better?
Rebecca – yea for clothes fitting well
Normally, I would miss mass, but I really want to go tonight, at least for a bit, since this is the first mass with the new pastor.

Well Jack and Taylor are now engaged ,and we had a blowout party..and my cousin Bridget and her husband Doug, wanted me to stay here but I prepaid for a hotel.they want to pay the prednisone paid fee for me,God Bless them.So I will stay here with them.until Thursday when I fly home

Allie … you are loved by so many. How very nice of your cousins wanting you to be with them.
Rebecca … looser clothes is big win!Lisa … tell me more about this battery operated gas pump. We hate our current gas cans. 1. Because they leak when pouring and 2. Because they're too heavy.

😀 My walk around my neighbourhood gave me a lot of food for thought about why people hang on to "things". I stopped to talk to the people I know from my walks and they told me about their stuff. I'm so glad I just gave things away and didn't worry about "value".
😀 I did some chores today. I locked Annie in the back yard while I vacuumed because she puts her face right up to the vacuum and barks while the vacuum is running. Then I locked her in the house while I used the leaf blower to tidy up the patio because she does the same thing with the blower as she does with the vacuum.

we submitted an application to Labrador retreiver rescue of Fresno.Luna – Yellow Female mix, 11 months, 65 lbs.
Meet Luna! 🌙
This beautiful 11-month-old yellow Labrador mix is the perfect blend of playful pup and loving companion. Her spirited yet loving nature makes her a great fit for families or individuals looking for a loyal friend. Weighing in at 65 lbs, Luna still has that fun puppy energy and is always up for a game of fetch or squeaky toy fun!
Luna is housetrained (she’ll let you know when she needs to go out with a bark at the door), crate trained, and does well on leash. She’s up to date on all her vaccinations, spayed, and ready to find the loving forever home she deserves.
Luna was found abandoned on the streets when she was just 4 months old. She’s clearly had a rough start, but her spirit and adaptability are truly inspiring. She shines through in everything she does. Luna gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes, is cat-friendly, and does great with children.
Luna is looking for a family who will help her thrive, continue her positive training and be committed to her for her life.
If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate, and well-rounded young dog to join your family

Allie – how wonderful for everyone. I was wondering about the “prednisone”….lol
Pip – Luna doesn’t know how good she has it having you for a “mother” Congrats to you and Kirby
Ordered 5 pairs of shorts from JC Penney so I'd get free shipping. You never know about the sizes. Really, I didn't need 5 but I did want the free shipping so I'll take 4 pair back. One pair fit me. I would really have rather had a 3" inseam but the navy ones only come in 5" inseam. Gotta see if I can turn them up.
Got to cut the grass tomorrow. Not sure when Colby and Jess will be leaving so I'll probably cut it after they leave.
Just took Ganon for a short walk around the block. Now to get ready for bed.

Beth - This is the one I bought. Approved by Corey, but he did caution that it will not last for more than a few years, as the gasoline will deteriorate the plastic. It doesn't have to exactly fit the gas can, you don't have to develop a vacuum, you literally drop one hose in the can and one hose in the gas tank of the machine (or car). Press the button, it transfers liquid quite quickly. It has an autostop, if it fills up, so it shouldn't overrun (and didn't, when I used it). I've only used it twice, but have been so pleased to be able to go ahead and get the five gallons of gas but not have to deal with picking it up and trying to pour it. Worth every penny.

That auto engine shut off is common among recent cars. I first came across it in a rental vehicle a couple year ago. Ease off the brake to get the engine to start again.
To start, press the brake and hit the button … is that right?
It is a good idea to know how to drive. When my husband had his accident, I hadn't driven in a decade and had never driven our new (then) van. I was terrified of driving, but he can't drive anymore so I had to relearn.

They just changed the law here in Canada regarding seniors being licensed.I agree with it. My second Mom Linda was killed at age 48 by a senior driver that was in an unfamiliar area and ran a stop sign.
I probably won’t agree with it quite so freely when those rules start applying to me but I hope I see the sense in it.We had a Boston Terrier named Scamper for a while growing up. My Mom would let him out every morning before waking my brother and I for school. Scamper would scratch at the door and my Mom would reach over from the kitchen counter and open the door without even looking. He would race up the stairs and get on our beds to wake us up. One morning Scamper decided to chase a skunk. Mom let him in like usual and too late her nose kicked in. Mom still sent us to school, all of the kids on the bus were making fun of us. When we got to the school they wouldn’t let us stay. Mom had to come pick us up.
Pip - Luna is pretty.
Allie - how wonderful you are so welcomed.
We had a discussion about birds that are pests at ceramics the other night.I was telling them that there were 3 magpies obviously having an argument in the street between our front yard and the neighbours the other night. They had gotten so loud I couldn’t hear the tv and I finally went out yelling at them and waving my arms. I told them that was enough and to git! They flew off and I suddenly heard my neighbour laughing at me like I was a crazy lady.(When I told Lauryn she said I was a crazy lady out yelling at birds.)
I digress..
My friend at ceramics has painted a set of gnome planters for her garden. The crows have decided they don’t like one of them. They have knocked it over 6 or so times, she’s come home with it covered in bird droppings, while all the rest had not a drop. She sprayed it down and set it back up again and had come home from work this week to find they had pecked one the ears off it.
We all concluded it must be a colour in it they don’t like.I did a little scrapping today. I got the bases for another calendar ready. I think I’ll make all the bases and then decorate them at once.
I watched a live replay of the Opry 100 honours Loretta Lynn tonight. Then I watched Stephen Curtis Chapman be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. I would love to go there someday. I want to see the history of Nashville, but from all the bars there now I don’t know how I would do. I don’t like being around crowds of people who are drunk.
One of Lauryn’s friends shared a post asking people to post a couple photo in their early time together. She did it as a story and I didn’t know how to respond after I dug out a photo. This was the earliest one we have besides our wedding I think. It was taken around this time of year the year we were married.
I changed my fb cover photo to this and the photo of us last week at the race as my profile pic.

Tracey - Love the photo! Your young, fresh face is adorable!
It's been raining for two days. Much needed, as we have a hosepipe ban, and are entering into drought conditions. I'm delighted with the rain, but sorry for Edie, who has been on a camping trip with her school. They got a little respite yesterday afternoon. It's still miserable this morning. We are having both girls on Wednesday, when we pick them up after Art K. John is giving up a day of his beloved cricket.
I am in considerable discomfort from some kind of bowel trouble. I've been awake since 4.30am. Up and down to the loo. Change of pyjamas. 😣 No idea what it is, but it's quite painful. Boo!

Good morning my friends!
Margaret Yay for down three pounds! Excellent! That's tough to do within your strict diet.
Debbie families used to rely on paper to figure out the assets of a person who passed. But many accounts don't have paper anymore. My 401k has no paper trail and nobody else knows how to contact them or who my beneficiaries are. So if I die before my daughter resumes our relationship, that money will likely be abandoned. You can ask for a list of assets and life insurance and beneficiaries, or to talk to the executor. It's less intrusive and easier to answer if you have a specific question.
Lanette Yay for back to the gym! I row 15 mins with music. Yes I should have checked yard sales or FB Marketplace for a rower. I might have found a bargain on a better quality rower.
Tracey Yay for the raise! I worry about dementia too. But there's no real exact test for it. With all the new brain scan technology there is hope. They renewed my Dad's driver's license for eight years. Ridiculous.
Lisa my Dad still struggles with feeling useful.
Rebecca Yay for looser clothes and a beautiful car! I gave up on makeup and jewelry. Nobody cares what I wear.
Michele glad your a/c was fixed quickly!
Allie Yay for a good time in Tennessee!
Barbie good question! Why do I hang on to things?
Pip Luna sounds wonderful. Hope she is available. Glad to see you moving forward!
Heather hope you feel better!
Last night Dad made the same joke four times in ten minutes. He used to be the life of the party. So sad.
I ordered more books from Amazon. I can't decide whether I deserve the indulgence or it's an addiction. It's not hurting the budget but I now have six bookcases full of paperbacks. Hmm.
My sister arrives from Tennessee tomorrow. So I might be quiet for a week depending. I usually still have quiet mornings but there's more to get done.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

😀 Annie, in general, the people I talked to didn't want their "antiques" or collections to go to Goodwill because the CEO of Goodwill earns a large salary, or they didn't want to just "give away" things that were precious. Some of these people can't keep their cars in their garages because of all of the precious "stuff" they are keeping to go to the right new owner. Gretchen Rubin's book "Outer Order, Inner Calm" address these issues along with many others. In the middle of the night I remembered a cupboard in the kitchen I hadn't gone through so I started this morning. Your situation is much more challenging than most because so much in your house is really your dad's stuff.
😀 Pip, Luna looks adorable. So glad you and Kirby are able to move on. I hope you'll get her.
😀 Many years ago I stayed with a friend who was a single woman living alone. She had a page of information posted on her fridge with names and phone numbers of family, friends, insurance company, doctor, financial advisor and others who should be contacted in case of her death or disability. I was inspired by that and it took me only a few years to finally do that for myself. I have such a list on my fridge now and I update it regularly. I have a much more comprehensive document in a drawer in the bedroom for my daughter. She knows where it is.
😀 I'd like to start the laundry early this morning but Annie is playing in the way of my carrying it from the hamper to the washer. She likes to grab stuff out of my hands so I have to look all over to find them and when I do, she grabs them again. She doesn't hurt anything, she just likes to claim things.
We had a discussion about birds that are pests at ceramics the other night.
😀 Tracey, When I read this, I was surprised that there were birds at ceramics, then I figured out that the discussion was at ceramics not the birds. That is funny about the magpies and the crows.

Allie ~ Your SC family sounds lovely. So glad you are having a good time.
Pip ~ Fingers crossed you and Kirby get the lab. You deserve him and will be a great mom.
Tracey ~ I saw the photo of the young you and Roger on Facebook but did not realize who was in it for some reason. You were both so young and cute.
Annie ~ You mentioned that you had 4 masters. You are very smart to have accomplished that and I hope your confidence in yourself will keep growing as you sometimes seem so doubtful of your abilities. I so enjoy hearing bits and pieces about you. Hope your sister’s visit gives you some respite from being your Dad’s sole care giver.
Michele ~ I hope your time with Jess and Colby living with you will be fine. That will be a lot of pets in your home but I know you will manage.
Rebecca ~ You are an inspiration to us as you follow what you are doing to change your eating habits and cravings. I have gained several pounds this summer and hope I can quit eating the after dinner snacks I have become used to.
Payers and Blessings to All!

Weekend …
Granddaughters and Gardening.
Our oldest granddaughter is almost 3 which is such a cute age … when I was in childcare, 18 months to 3 years was the age I took care of most of the time. So I sang songs and read stories with her.
Our youngest granddaughter is 6 months but is certainly taking in what's going on around her.
Although it was chilly and windy most of this weekend, Sunday wasn't too bad, so I took the opportunity to do a bit of gardening. I'm setting up to plant more bulbs … bulbs we found in the garage.
Some of the spring bulbs I planted a few weeks ago are starting to come up.

Lucy does that grab and run thing. She makes a game of it and you can actually see her smiling. I was trying to get dressed this morning and she would grab any piece of clothing I was trying to put on and run. Then she would spin around with the item in her mouth and look to see if you were chasing her. Big game for her. Makes me laugh and get angry at the same time if that's possible. I don't want her ruining what she grabs, yet the look on her face when she turns to see if you are behind her is priceless! 🙄😅
Thought for today:
What do you call a fake noodle?
