Good morning my friends!
I think everything I wanted to say has already been said!
My sister will be here early afternoon I think. So Dad will miss his sing along class. I have some last minute chores to get done.

MVD and age: This is what I found for New Mexico. DH and I both have to renew our licenses next year. We have the 4- and 8-year options as well. We will both do the 8 years. I will be able to; we will have to see about DH. 8 years from now he will have just turned 80.
"Drivers who are 79 years old or older must renew their licenses yearly, but they are not charged renewal fees."
Blood work today or tomorrow (no fasting needed) for renal doc next week. I want to go this afternoon. Last time I went in the afternoon, there wasn't any wait.
Cars that turn off: I get a few of those at the pay booth on the weekend. I bet it would get very annoying if you lived in the city! Glad for the people that have the option to turn that feature off. Work at visitor center this morning, home for lunch, then probably town for a Sam's run and blood work. At least this is my plan!
Breakfast: My typical go-to for breakfast is oatmeal and banana. Sometimes Old-Fashioned oatmeal, sometimes instant for a change. This is about the only thing that doesn't bother my stomach! Dinner is between noon and 2 and consists of whatever my DH cooks. Different every day. Supper is usually simply snacks like graham crackers and cream cheese, or naan and hummus, or corn tortillas chips. This varies as leftovers can be included here too.
Thought for today:
Why does a chicken coop only have two doors?
Because if it had four, it would be a sedan.

Worked then took Ganon for a walk. Last night Vince kept going on and on about how the tub downstairs was disgusting. Really, it just needed to be scrubbed, it really wasn’t that bad. Here I was expecting something really bad.
There was this girl who worked the register this weekend. Honestly, she wasn't doing practically anything. I remember when Miss L did it, she was constantly restocking, etc. This girl was here today (so was the store manager) and I saw her restocking things, adding ice cubes, etc. Maybe she feels she can get away with not doing much with the other manager?
SO FAR they’re scheduled to start on the deck Aug. 4. That’s SO FAR. Who knows what Mother Nature has in store?????
Lisa – I, too, have been known to get involved in something and totally miss an appointment. What I do is set my timer for a bit earlier than the appointment
Off to bowling. Later everyone.

Hi all, late start for me this month, I have been reading along but apparently I’ve been to busy to post!
Barbie, thanks for a new month!
Our car has auto shut off at lights etc and a push button start, I love it, has taken hubby longer to get used to it as I drive it more.
Rita, it’s not a big deal in the city either, when we’re stuck in traffic, or it’s slow moving, the motor won’t power down, you have to move a certain distance all in one go before the car will power down. It is a gas saver!
Pip, when I read about Luna I think you and Kirby would be the perfect parents for her! I hope you get her. My condolences on the loss of Yogi, he was a special fella for sure!
Our younger son, his fiancée and her daughter arrived last night for a visit. It had been two years since we’d seen them. They are here til Saturday. I know the time will go way too fast!
Must go, still busy, it seems, lol.Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to any new gals that I’m sure I missed!

MFP says up 1.6 pounds, but my weekly averages show different. These numbers show a steady loss. I am happy with the changes!Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast- Average wt back to 131.2 from 131.8.Average steps UP to 7566 from 7230.Ps@2s habit going strong except for skipping once at the 2 am p ... AF days improved to 86% from 71%., the aftermath of one day of super indulgence ;}10 mins step up/knee lifts, shoulder mobility and/or PT, split squats or dynamic balance every day but Friday and Sunday, oops. Hope you and the gals can keep cool and safe!
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - up a bit but I also weighed fully dressed(forgot to weigh earlier)155.2
Sue in WA - Lost the 2 pounds I gained last week, no pizza parties. Haven't exercised as much this week, only 1 day over 7000 steps, did not make 7500 any day. Missed water exercise 1 day due to dog being groomed. Yoga cancelled 1 day. Still working on limiting choices for meals. Doing well on breakfast and eating after dinner. Lunch and snack are still problematic. I need to narrow choices down for those times.
Lanette in SW WA State- Weight not budging much, still over desired range. Average daily steps 7974 – up a tiny bit from last week. Getting in a 15 minute sunrise walk on my private road. Still carrying weights 2 or 3 times a day after meals. Doing a few 13# Farmers/Suitcase carries paying good attention to posture.

Annie, our 401 K beneficiary paperwork lists full name, address and phone number so the 401K manager could contact them in the event we both passed at the same time. So sorry to hear your daughter is estranged. ((hugs)) Glad your sister is coming, she’ll have the perspective of not having seen your dad in awhile ((hugs held extra long)).
Margaret at first glance I thought you had both pink and violet colored hygrangeas blooming in the same bush and wondered how you did that. ;} What Tracey said about people who say cruel things, especially about babies/children. So damaging. ;’(
Carol your right the company was fun! Even Joe seemed to enjoy himself. Hope we get together again.
Rita ((hugs))
Lanette I’m going to stop by our local pet bath facility and ask what they recommend. Shadow improved vastly after grooming, but can’t get Mooch in to the groomer til Thursday. Riding with him in the car is a real test of love. I have an arugula plant that has overwintered, twice! The leaves have gotten way smaller and the soil is likely depleted but the tiny little leaves still give a nice peppery bite to my salads…
Barbie thanks for the permission to think and mull before discarding. And Machka and Heather’s suggestions to just look around and think. For now, every day I keep the keyboard cleared of “to be filed” papers, I count as a win. ;} Hooray for choosing to walk over vacuuming! ;)
Tracey con VERY gratulations on the much deserved raise. Any more opportunities to be an in-house trainer? Love the early pic of you and Rodger.
Rebecca I would NOT like the auto shutoff and stoplights, not one tiny bit. Hooray for comfortable yellow v-neck tshirt and capris!
Michele one of the gals at dog group told me her dog got skunked THREE times. Never did learn. I’m hoping Mooch and Shadow are brighter than that…
Pip Luna is lovely. When will you know?

I originally read to be patient. This process is going by a lot quicker than I thought it would. Day one I submitted the application. Next day, I got a reply to my application saying they forwarded it to the foster that has Luna. Next day(being today) I got a response from the foster:
She has only been up less than a week and has received so much interest.
A little background on Luna, her owner found her when she was 4 months old. She did all the right things for her but now realizes she must surrender her. Luna is such a good dog, loves people and very playful.
If you would be interested in meeting and/or learning more about her, please let me know. I can call you at your convenience to answer any questions.ireplied:
You can call me with any questions you may have about us. We are retired so we are home now. 253-208-5957. It would be nice to know if we are the front runners in the qualification process to adopt her. We lost our lab a month ago yesterday. We would hate to have our hopes up only to find someone beat us to getting her. Please let us know.
she replied she can call me tonight at 7. We will see what shakes.9 -
😀 I have three bags ready to take to Goodwill. I used the 20/20 rule from The Minimalists. If you can replace it for less than 20 dollars in less than 20 minutes, then you don't have to keep it "just in case". I got rid of baking sheets, cooking racks, various containers for taking food to a potluck, and kitchen utensils that I have never used. I loved my apple peeler/corer when I was making a freezer full of applesauce every year, but I haven't done that since 2009 and I'm not sure I'd eat applesauce if I had a choice.
😀 Lanette, I watched something on TV that included a visit to a farm animal rescue site. The woman there talked about rescuing hens that were in unsafe conditions and rehoming them. She said they were easy to rehome because so many people wanted hens and they were so cuddly.
😀 Sue, I have a good plan for snacks and meals but it took me some time and experimentation to find what works for me. It sure makes grocery shopping easy because I get the same things all the time.

Barbara I have an in ground hydrangea that has blue and pink blooms not sure how that happened. It is the ph of the soil that determines the color. The pot has always bloomed pink. One of the blooms was starting to go so it looked a bit blueish. I didn't think it was going to bloom much this year and then boom. I did give it some fertilizer and it was after that that it went into full bloom! I know blue is popular but I actually prefer the pink color.

Heather - I was happy to read you were feeling better today. It sure messed us up when we don’t feel well.
Great photo of your son.Terri - I love your poem.
Lisa - I’m surprised at some of the traits I have that are ADHD traits. Never being late is a thing for me too.
Rebecca - I’m enjoying reading your enthusiasm for your new menu.
Allie - it sounds like a peaceful morning.
Cars that turn off - my daughter has one, she said after the first week or so she didn’t even notice it. It doesn’t slow anything down at the intersections and makes it a little quieter.
Michele - if Vince was so upset by the tub maybe he should have scrubbed it. 😂 I get it, Rodger wouldn’t either, on the other hand he also wouldn’t complain and expect me to do it.
Pip - another beautiful project.
Barbara - Our educator has to be a nurse, she teaches when we have new hires but is also a coordinator for making sure all the I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed in the charting and reporting to the government. I have no medical background.
Rainy and cool here today. We need a lot more rain to get fires under control, but this might be a bit of help.
Not a lot to say today. Just work and home.
Our furnace kicked in a couple of times this evening. The temp has gone down to 10C currently. It was much warmer all day.

Hi everyone, I know I am late to the discussion on education. I cannot help but be angry at myself for not taking advantage of everything that I was blessed with. My big problem was that I had untreated ADHD. I needed the medication so I wouldn't have been so easily distracted. Yet, I was friendly and outgoing to a point. Then later on in HS, I decided to ignore the boys and study hard. I ended up being the first black person in my school to be in the academic group called Jane Adams. The only problem was that I didn't know how to apply to colleges without my mom's tax information, which she refused to provide. As a result, I ended up attending community college, and it was free. In some classes, I worked hard, but I wish I had worked harder in the Spanish class. I couldn't focus because I had taken four years of it in high school, yet they made me start at the beginning, and I was bored. I didn't know what I wanted to be, so I took classes to explore my interests. I was 17 at the time. Computer Science was out for me because I didn't get it. I worked at a boutique and earned a good income through commissions.
I considered being a buyer or pursuing a career in marketing, but I ultimately found it unappealing. I loved my Political Science class and my law class, but remembering torts and cases was not enjoyable. However, when I quit my job at the mall and worked at the doctor's office, assisting with a child who did not speak English, and watching the doctor stitch his finger, I knew what I wanted. I consulted with my counselor about it. Even though I had a needy boyfriend, I pursued it and was glad that he went to Arizona for college, allowing me to focus on my studies. Suddenly, they decided to charge for tuition with a max of $65.00 per semester. I purchased used books whenever I could, and I lived on campus.
After earning my Associate's Degree in Science in Nursing, I could have transferred to any of the California State schools for my BSN, but I passed my Boards on the first attempt and took a job at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. I was offered free tuition reimbursement to go back to school. I was so tired, with the job and the 2-4 hour commute through LA traffic, that I couldn't do it. Then, I decided to move to Chicago to escape my ex-boyfriend and start a new life. I was offered a job with better pay at the University of Chicago Hospital's Neonatal unit. After meeting and marrying my DH, which was 5 years after moving there, I decided to go back to school. The hospital paid for my tuition. I had to stop because on my last day, which I was supposed to give an oral presentation in my Pathophysiology class, I was stuck in the hospital, pregnant with my first daughter, and sick with pneumonia. I asked my doctor if I could leave for 2 hours with my oxygen tank to give my presentation, and she said no. Then, when I eventually lost the baby after being on bed rest, I gave up. I was very depressed. Then, when we adopted Julia and Horace, A. snuck in, I was too tired to go to school. Working full-time and being a mother were a lot for me. I didn't get my degree until 2020. My son and I both graduated without ceremony. They forgot to put my name on the program. I paid off DH's Student Loan with my inheritance, but I now have a loan to pay. When I move to Chicago, they will cover the cost of my Master's degree. So that is my long story. :)Pip, I hope you get the puppy.
Allie, I think you felt quite relaxed in South Carolina, and that is why you could finally sleep. Someone was looking after you, and you had no worries. I hope it continues when you get home.
I want you all to know that I found all of your stories so inspiring. Today, I felt pressure from DH because he is having no luck with his job search. I suggested to him that he might need to be an Uber driver until he gets a job. I will also consider doing some home health care. I did talk to the PERS guy who might have thought I was weird, but I confirmed that I couldn't take a lump sum out. I said Thank you. That is wonderful. I didn't want to do that. I feel that DS needs to figure out what to do. I agree with Matchka that getting a skill or a trade is great to have under your belt.
Well, I'd better let DH know that DD didn't use the money he'd set aside for her car insurance. Good night, everyone. I am glad she knows that I am not tolerating that mess.

This morning I completed and posted the 20 day spreadsheet that I do for Sole Mates, a small walking group to which I belong. I look after the optional strength challenge. I take part in several groups/challenges on MFP, which I find useful. I found the accountability invaluable when I was losing weight, and the groups allowed me to keep in touch with many of my other MFP friends, since the newsfeed was removed.

Cars that turn off:
I get a few of those at the pay booth on the weekend. I bet it would get very annoying if you lived in the city!
It bothered me in the first vehicle I rented, but I figured it out in the most recent vehicle and it was fine.
Just ease up on the brake and the car starts again. By the time your foot is off the brake, you're rolling. 😀🚗
However, if the driver is the type of person who quickly removes foot from brake and sets it down on accelerator, then there will be issues.

Morning, my punkins,
Hope your Tuesday is going well… or did go well, as the case may be. Another scorcher out in front of me. I was going to say that at least it allows me to drop my electric bill by hanging clothes on the line, but then, the bill is going up because of the A/C, so there's that. Oh well. This week is mid-90s (35 C) next week is around 105 (40 C+)
My first chore this morning is to get out and get everything watered while it's still lower than 80 degrees (27 C).
Pip - I'm glad there's hope of you getting another lab in your life. I know you'll let us know.
Today is my ADHD chore day. All the little bitty things - cleaning floor fans that keep the cool air moving around the house, cleaning the filters on the zone A/Cs, sanding the walls in the back bedroom (not my fav), shortening some compression socks I got so they don't have to either go up over my knees or fold over, which cuts off my circulation…
On the fun side, I'm working on one crocheted pillow and one other handmade project which needs a couple other things done, and I need to get the sheets off the bed, washed and back on. Short bursty bits of work. Each time I get fed up with one thing, I just pop over to the other.
I am getting full extension back in my PT with the shoulder with little pain, and am really happy with that. The 24-7 ache is beginning to subside as well. I've been doing my exercises at home every day, and adding more than they have me do. Really pleased, and glad I got seen before it got worse.
Time to go water, now it's light enough. Rubber boots on to wade through the dew-soaked grass…
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR5 -
Good morning my friends!
My sister was telling me about rucking, wearing a weighted vest, for weight loss. Not sure if my knee would take that. But it's interesting.
Pip lovely painted project! I don't know what to call it.
Evelyn Yay for son's visit!
Mo Wow pneumonia and a presentation on top of pregnancy!
My Dad is staying home from his class to visit with my sister. Not sure what we will do. Too hot outside.
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

MO ~ Thanks for telling us about your ADHD difficulties that interfered with your pursuit of education. I clearly understand all that you said as I have been there done that. I am also sure that I have LD regarding math. Anything related to numbers is over my head. When I took GRE my math score was at the bottom. Thank God for calculators and that my bank is online.
Lisa ~ Glad your PT exercises are helping! My lower back (sciatica) has been a real bother over the last few days so I am trying to be more active. In other words, get up off my but from the computer. LOL
Terri ~ I admire all the activities you keep going in your life. You are so wise to keep moving and learning new things.
DH bought a package of iced oatmeal cookies and they are my downfall. I have no idea how many I ate last night. Need PIP's boot. Over the last month weight has gone up more than a pound and that defeats my intentions to stay at a certain weight (168). Some of it may be the antidepressants but I just need to get my will-power back and make better choices.
I actually remembered Vicki's MFP name and tried to send her a message to let her know she is missed. I also miss Kelly checking in but know her on Facebook so just think she is really, really busy with work and her daughter's move.
Best wishes for everyone!

Pip - how exciting about Luna. Anxious to see how the meet n greet goes. Somehow I think Yogi is working something in the background putting things together. Love your latest painting project.
Tracey - I forgot to say congrats on the raise! So glad you got this job and have settled in so well.
Heather - very nice photo of your handsome son, his partner and daughter.
Lisa - somehow it was drilled into me at an early age that being 10 or 15 minutes early is a lot better than being 10 or 15 minutes late, especially for medical appointments. Traveling in an RV after Corey retires sounds like a good plan - escaping that summer heat and humidity for a while. I always liked the area in Washington near the water around where Rebecca and Barbie are living. Usually very pleasant, and interesting things to do - that evergreen scenery is beautiful. Happy for you the PT is doing the job for your shoulder.
Mo - thank you for sharing your story. You have achieved so much despite some hurdles and the patients who you interact with are so lucky you picked nursing. Actually, your DH driving an Uber sounds like an interesting prospect. Who knows, maybe could pick up a rider who is a business person and just happens to be looking for someone with DH's skills. Good that your PERS is protected. I gave in to my DH to take money from my IRA years ago so he could buy a new truck for cash. Paid the tax penalty. Thankfully the $$ that was left still grew, but looking back - I wouldn't have done it.
Annie - hope your sis arrived OK and she's getting caught up and spending time with your dad. Sounds like rucking is becoming fashionable. You might be OK starting out with light weights and building from there. I have to remind myself to start slow with this exercise stuff and work up. Used to be we could jump right in with no thought of injury - sure miss those days.
Carol - maybe if we all send "vibes" to Vicki she'll pop in. Thanks for trying. Good that Kelly is on FB - at least she's not "gone with the wind" like some of our beloved group members. Are you able to take any anti-inflammatories for your back?
Barbie - some of those chickens are very friendly. 🐓 My gals usually let me pet and handle them to a point, but they are big "mama's" so not exactly lap chickens, lol. I like that 20/20 rule, so glad you mentioned it. I've been SLOWLY discarding some things using a similar philosophy. I think the pandemic hammered into my brain to that things will be scarce so I loaded up and now have been in the mood to clean off a shelf in the medicine cabinet, for example. Go through the undies collection (again) and start tossing.
Terri - your Sole Mates group sounds wonderful. If I could, I'd teleport over and join in. 😁 I wonder how Tina is doing with her Irish vacation walking?
The gym - I stopped at the gym yesterday morning. The ladies' circuit training room was interesting - several other gals were in there but we kept out of each other's way. The treadmill worked great and there were kettlebells in various weights for doing the Farmer's carry. But the "curves" machines weren't in good shape, not adjustable, and were awkward to climb in and out of. There was no way I was going to attempt the rower. I'm not sure machines are the way to go anyhow. Maybe I'll change my mind once I check out the "big stuff" in the main part of the gym.
Anyhow, I dug out the "Strong Women Stay Young" book I got from Barbie years ago - 2017? That's when I started my SWSY routine. I kept logs of weights I was lifting and I'm amazed at the progression as I got stronger. Not sure I'll ever get back to what I was doing 8 years ago. I stopped due to various injuries and surgeries and with DH in failing mode, it just wasn't a priority anymore. I need to concentrate on the leg exercises. I'm a good walker, but I'm thinking sit-to-stands and leg extensions are a priority to help with my balance which is a little off thanks to my messed up foot.
It's cool and overcast this morning so far. Got my walk in on the road and picked another container of blueberries from neighbor's bushes next door. Might mow. The wretched imposter dandelions are starting to become fluffballs and it's tempting to just leave them alone. It's that sea of yellow that bugs me now that the grass is turning brown.
Make it a super day, ladies!

Lanette - Cool and overcast sounds wonderful! Just trying to channel thoughts of fall and foggy mornings and cool water running over rocks. No… that's the sound of the sweat dripping from my hair onto my shoulders, sorry… 😂🥵🔥😊
Just back in from getting my outside bits done and am starting to cool down… Decided to let the sheets wait for a while. I stick my face in Corey's pillow, and if it still smells good, I can wait. My pillow always smells good. 😏
But I did get the watering done, as well as getting his tomatoes picked before I watered the garden. Need to get them up on the windowsill in the kitchen to let them finish getting ripe. He leaves the peppers on the plants until he's ready to use them or can them.
Mo - I think the idea of your husband working with ride sharing is a great one. Thanks, too, for sharing your education journey. I find it fascinating, looking back, how much we base our timing on the men in our lives. I don't hear from men that they do nearly as many things because of their wife's timing.
For instance, I started my bachelor's at UNLV because it was my husband's last tour before military retirement, and I wanted the chance to get my degree before the unknown world post-military life began. We got to Las Vegas in November 1994, I started school spring semester 1995, and graduated in 1998. And yes, I walked. I didn't think it would matter to me, but it did - I was absolutely beaming in the photos.
Went looking for a digital version, and I can't find a separate grad pic - I put these two together at some other point because they were ten years apart - 1998 and 2008.
I was just a few months from leaving my now-ex-husband, and had pictures taken of the new, post-op me. Hard to believe that's already 18 years ago now.
The gastric bypass surgery was just kind of the final blow to a marriage that had been limping along for a long time. I just knew it would fix things.
Didn't.
But on the other side?
Yeah, this life. Which I love beyond measure. Sorry about the jump in the WABAC machine!
Time to get a few more things done to justify my existence. Or for whatever other reason I've come up with lately.
Later, my dears,

Lanette, you mention sit-to-stands. I do a ton of them when I work the pay booth. I will sit down because there are no vehicles is sight, which calls the vehicles and I'm up again. I think about the bathroom sit-to-stands every time I sit to stand when a vehicle comes to my window!
Morning walk with Lucy done and she's passed out (thank goodness!). Unbounding energy in the pup! I think my Brownie pointed me to Lucy. I used to say I wouldn't get another Chihuahua mix, but guess what Lucy is supposed to be? Chihuahua/Terrier mix! Both high energy dogs! I guess someone wanted me to get more exercise! LOL Commands she sort-of does reliably: sit, lay-down, waves, look at me, we are working on walk (standing walk for her) and sit pretty (sit on back haunches). She is learning really fast and loves the training sessions I do with her. Good luck getting Luna, Pip! I'm sure Yogi had something to do with your choice as well as my Brownie for me!
Blood work for kidney doc today, and trip to Sam's for water and something else I can't remember?
Thought for today:
Did you hear about the kidnapping at school?
It’s okay, he woke up. Talk about a sleepy start to the day!

Hello! I am sure I’ve missed a lot from you all. I tried to keep up in Ireland, but I also know I missed some things.
Allie, I’m so glad you’re getting some relaxation time.Heather- Glad you’re feeling better! Lovely photo of your son and family.
Lisa, I think it was you who mentioned not knowing of men saying things like “they must be very proud” when something seems a bit pricey. My mister says that often, “that’s a proud price.” Mostly about beer prices, but about cars and other things when he finds them overpriced. I actually think he said it last night about movie tickets.Ireland was great. We wore ourselves out though. Next time, I’ll plan down time into the schedule. We were constantly on the go. Got a lot of walking in. It’s a beautiful place. I learned so much about the politics between England and the North. I had no idea of so much of it.
I’m not happy to be home. I’m generally not happy here these days. Was lamenting to myself last night as we were driving to a movie theater how I’m done here. I am likely just bored.I will post photos at some point. Just no energy to do it now.
have a great day, evening, week…

😀 The dogs and I woke up extra early this morning so we were finished with breakfast and ready for a real walk extra early. The only thing better than walking between 7 and 8 here is walking between 6 and 7. It is foggy and misty this morning so the temps were way below 60. Even with a long walk and stops to talk to two chatty neighbours (one with a dog and one with a garden she wanted to show off), I was still able to get home early enough to water after walking nearly 8000 steps. After my 9:00 Zoom meeting, Annie and I will go to town to deposit my ballot, pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy drive through where they always have a treat for Annie, and drop off four bags of stuff at the charity shop.
😀 Tina, are you hoping to move? Where?
😀 I've been thinking about the photo of Tracey and Rodger and how cute they looked when they first met, that I went looking for a photo of Jake and me when we first met because I thought we were so cute and young in the picture. We were cute but not so young because we were just past 40 years old when we met.
😀 Lanette, I haven't done SWSY for a long time and recently gave away the ankle weights and most of the hand weights (I still have 4 and 5 pounds), but with dogs and the gardening I do on my knees, and all the walking and dancing, I'm using a lot of muscles throughout the day.
