WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JULY 2025

Hey - just dropping by before I jump in the shower, then to PT.
This is the project I've been working on that I've been so pleased with - combining my utterly inexplicable love for creating handbags with my love for crochet. Your eyes don't deceive you, it genuinely is shiny - all colors of this yarn are the Metallico brand - I get them shipped in from a Swiss company called Hobbii.
I really enjoyed making this one from the beginning - it's only drawback is that it will not undo more than a stitch or two without tangling. Kind of a pain, but since I knew what I wanted to do, it worked out fine. It's unusual when a project turns out exactly like what I first had in mind!
Every square is unique in terms of color placement, and it turns out with three colors, you get 12 unique combinations if you want white to always be the last row around the square!
I used canvas and a very stiff stabilizer to create the lining so that it would stand up, and will create an insert with a zipper pocket with a yellow lining, and stitch that in as well. My ONLY hand-stitched purse.
Oh heck, got to get moving!
Later y'all,
Love, Lisa in AR

Welcome Ange! I adopted a new puppy about 2 months ago. She is now 4 months old and looks like a Terrier mix (the pound said she was a chihuahua mix!) How old is your pup and what kind is she? Here is a picture of my little terror (oops Terrier! lol) One ear stands the other goes sideways! Silly puppy!
She gets sick in the car. Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with that?
This has been the nicest summer her in New Mexico yet! Normally it is 100-112 all of June, July, and August. It has been in the 90's and nightly rains this year. Makes it really nice!
Thought for today:
Whatβs the longest word in the English language?
Smiles. Because thereβs a mile between its first and last letters. Thatβs one long β distance word!

Barbie-I just need to find a way to cut the βat homeβ budget so I can be away. Eating less comes to mind and is good for weight loss. Food has gotten insanely pricey.
Lanette-Iβd like to be a nomad. Own no property. Just go from place to place. I read an article years ago about a couple who retired and travelled around the world, staying in Paris for 2 months, then off to Italy for 3 months, then Costa Rica for a while, etc. They didnβt have any responsibilities. No stuff. Just a suitcase and wanderlust.

Tina - Lots of people on YouTube doing just that.
My lunch with G was mixed. Nice to see her, but she is really struggling. She is exhausted all the time from the process of reducing the steroids she was on for her horrific skin disease. She looked knackered. Amazing that she came all this way to see me. Red eyes, bruised skin, thinning hair, walking like an old lady. So sad. She used to be so fit, despite her mental health problems.
The good news is that she is going to Bath this weekend to see her DDIL and granddaughter, over from Singapore. I hope it all works out for her.
Max seemed to enjoy the morning's cricket and took John out for a substantial lunch at a new, to him, place. He went home after that. He's quite difficult to read, but he seemed interested enough. John went back to the cricket, and then walked home in the rain. I had a nice sausage and rice salad prepared.
So, not a bad day, but I wish life wasn't such a struggle for G. On the way back with her, we visited a couple of shops, but she was finding it a trial. I bought some more acrylic paint colours for my bedroom canvas. And Finnish licorice! Plus some meatball sauce from IKEA. We will have that tomorrow with escalopes.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Mo,
ah, toe nails can put your eye out if they hit ya, so I just have the pedicure ladies do it. Plus when I dip my foot in the plastic baggie filled with really warm hot wax, it makes me feel special. I always apologize to her regarding my hairy legs. Its like, deal with it. I just refuse to participate in the shaving deal. Just the fact that silly Gillette shaving company decided as a marketing campaign to deem hairy legs as unsightly and unclean just chaps me! So in defiance I just let them grow. On the good side, my hair is sparse.
OoOoh big red wasps! Those are scary! I am a flee person when I see bugs, thank goodness I have others that will deal, but I just cant! When I was a little girl I recall going outside during the summer, seeing a bug and running, seeing some other flying bug and running, crying and running until I just came back in the house. I got better, but for many years in my childhood before going to bed I inspected every corner of the ceiling and my pillow, for spiders. It was routine. ππ

It's so hard to see our friends declining health. Its like that for my middle sister and I. I thank my lucky stars that my life is reasonably in healthy shape, and I wished that my sister would stop just guessimating all her health issues, or masking them with drugs and alcohol. Every time we video chat its one new guess by her as to what's going on medically with her.π₯π

Hello, my friends;
I closed the door to the laundry room/bathroom last night. I opened the door and saw another wasp, so I killed it with spray. And got my last bit of laundry out of the dryer. Then I closed the door. Now I know they are in the attic. That is where this morning's wasp was.
Katie, Jasper is so cute!
Allie, Delia has the cutest teeth on the bottom. Both Miles and Delia look so innocent and precious in the other pic.
Heather, John has a lot of energy to take over with the grands.
Lanette, thank you for the post about failure. I am failing to exercise, and I need to get to it. My weight has remained relatively stable. Rose and I need to get moving.
Margaret, you are glowing and so lovely. I hope you enjoyed your tea party.
Lisa, it is so nice to get help. Sometimes we need to acknowledge our limitations. No one can do it all. Are you a perfectionist?
Terri, I love your poems.
Matchka, I hope all is well with you and that you had fun with your grands.
Rebecca, when I was a girl and up into adulthood. My neighbor said he would see me running and ducking, but he couldn't understand if I was dancing or having a psychotic attack. He couldn't see the bee that was chasing me. We had a lemon tree in front of my house. When I explained it to him later, he laughed so hard that he almost fell over. He was my best friend Zaida's brother. As for toenails, you are right. My mom's toenails are so thick that I had to take her to the foot doctor. I learned quickly to wear my eyeglasses so her toenail doesn't get in my eye.ππ€£ I love getting manicures and pedicures too. I think we deserve to treat ourselves to some pampering.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

just to clarify, Jasper does not live with me. He and my niece have a studio apartment in a nearby town. I bring him to my house to babysit sometimes when she is working so she doesnβt have to take him with her. She doesnβt have a car yet and uses the city bus when neither I nor my nephew are available to give her a ride. She is no contact with the babyβs father and his mother (more drama not suitable for a public forum), so thereβs no help there. Her brother (my nephew), his wife and daughter live about 5 minutes away from her, so she has help from them, too. He is the sweetest, most agreeable baby you will ever meet. The only time he cries is if he is hungry, has a poopy diaper, or hurts himself. I used the term βadoptβ to mean I claim him as a grandchild since my brother is dead and his wife is terminally ill. Iβm the closest thing he has to a grandma.
today I scheduled my colonoscopy for August 19. I had to get a new doctor since my surgeon retired. This one looks like about 17, but he is bald, so maybe heβs not quite that young! This play thingy was given to me about 15 years ago by my brotherβs wife so that I would have it for my grandson. It was probably my nieceβs at some point or maybe one of her other cousinβs. Itβs been in my attic. It does not roll, but it bounces if you jump. Itβs missing half its toys, but Jasper doesnβt care.

talked to the foster of baby girl (are going to change that name) and she still hasnβt heard back. We emailed the foster of Luna (the lab) and told her we will be passing on getting her. In talking to her, she knows where we live. Her mother come to find out lives in the same complex, sheβs our neighbor! She also says she heard that fosters get first dibs and worse case scenario she can adopt her then she can give her to us. Sheβs excited that she will be able to see her. I told her she is welcome to come and visit anytime.

Mo,
I have embarrassed my family by running around a restaurant patio because there was a bee! I just can't be rational about them. The same way with bats! We had a bat in another rental home and I was so terrified! It took me weeks to settle back down! It had come in thru a crack in the fireplace, so throwing him out, which my son and husband did (while I hid in the bathroom), did nothing! 5minutes later it was back again! Until they caulked up that crack I was so nervous in that house.

Did an incline interval workout today. At the Y I always went into the family locker room since there arenβt a lot of people there and I could spread my things out in one of the three rooms. Today they asked me to put my things in a locker. Not that itβs a big problem, but whatβs the big deal early in the a.m.? Iβve NEVER seen all 3 rooms being used early in the morning. Perhaps later in the day they are, but not at 6:30, even 8:30.
Mo β we have a retaining wall of stone and wasps are forever building nests between the blocks. Wish I could somehow block that off
Oh, picked up my woody car at ceramics last night. Tonight Iβll take the shell with me Update: Finished my Elmo
Colby has decided that he wants his king size bed downstairs. Which means we have to disassemble our bed, move the bookcase, assemble their bed, then when they move dissemble their bed, reassemble our bed. Why he just canβt bring his queen size mattress here (our guest bed is a queen), I have no idea. What a hassle! It isnβt like itβs for a year, weβre only talking a couple of months. We will have to clean out the exercise room (not a big deal), the closet in that bedroom (not a big deal). But we arenβt going to disassemble the bed by ourselves. Vince asked Jess today if she has the boxes marked which are going to storage and which are coming here and she said βwe willβ. I donβt think they realize that the movers will be there Monday. I hope theyβre not planning that they can store their things here. Not going to happen. Colby wants the cats downstairs so that means I need to bring my crafts and jigsaw puzzle upstairs (no big deal), but heβs concerned that there isnβt a door to the exercise room and the cats will get into his computers at night. Even Jess said βwhy not close the door at the top of the stairs so their cats donβt come down and we put our cats in the bedroom at night so they arenβt roaming around?β Thatβs probably what will happen.
Making a pork loin right now. Didnβt realize how long it would take to come to temp;
College β Vince went to MIT (studied Engineering, his father was an EE), dropped out (much to his parentβs dismay) but went back to Lehigh and got a degree in accounting.
Annie β I remember my cousin telling her MIL that her son was home cutting the grass. The truth of the matter is that he died. MIL had lost all her sons. How could P tell her that she outlived all her sons. Therefore, Pβs husband was βcutting the grassβ or he was just at the nursing home β didnβt she remember? Fortunately, one of the workers there looked like her husband from the back so βsee, heβs walking down the hall right nowβ. The MIL probably found out when she got to heaven. P had to go away one time. Fortunately, she had a twin, S so S would go visit and MIL thought it was P!
Took Ganon for two walks today then brought all the bisque from downstairs upstairs.
Gonna take a shower and get to bed.

Lisa - my brother built his house mostly on the barter system. He only had about $3000 cash into it. Itβs a two bedroom with good sized living room and kitchen. A big mud room, and a covered porch. He tore down a rental house one of our cousins owned and in exchange for that he got his first hot water tank, electrical panel, and a bunch of other odds and sods. He cuts wood as a way to pay taxes, and had a friend whose dad owned a saw mill. He rebuilt a 1966 international tractor in exchange for his wood to be milled to what he needed. A building supply store was going out of business and he got his countertop for $5 and his bathroom necessities for very cheap.
Our dad was a general contractor so they did all the work themselves. I live going there knowing how much love is in the walls. Heβs talking now about giving that house to their son and moving it onto the location our parents house was and building a new house for himself and his wife on the spot our grandparents house was. Heβs never had a mortgage and has lived there quite happily for 25 years minus the 4 years they moved into our grandmothers house so she could stay home longer.

I love that purse! Iβve been eyeing an outfit on a suggested ad from SHEIN for Michaela. Itβs a white cotton tank top and pants set. The tank top has 12 small granny squares on the bodice and the pants have a band around the bottom of the flared legs. Very 70βs vibe.Barbie - I hope thatβs the last of the recurring charges to show up. Will the credit card company give you an idea of recurring ones?
Tina - 70% is an insane increase!
Kay - itβs nice to see you stop in. Jasper is a cutie. I think a lot of people need just one person to be in their corner. I hope you being there for your niece is what she needs to be on track.
Pip - Thatβs a pretty pup. What is her name?
Annie - I donβt really consider it lying with my Mom. She is determined my girls are still little and live at home with me. I used to correct her and remind her that they were grown and adults but it just upset her. Now if she asks what they are doing I tell her theyβre out with friends so that she doesnβt want to talk to them but doesnβt get agitated with me for not knowing where my girls are or what they are doing. She also thinks my brother moved to town and visits her every day. He hardly ever visits, but I agree with her.
Itβs a kindness in my opinion, we have to meet her where she is. The last time we talked she told me she hadnβt talked to Grammie (her mother)in a while and said she should call her. She then asked me if I had, I said no it had been too long and I should call her too. She passed in 2009.Margaret - What a pretty picture and a lovely treat table.
Flea - that was funny.
Lanette - Safeway here is one of the most expensive stores. I go there for a couple of things that I canβt find in other stores but I mostly try to about it. Our least expensive store I try to avoid because they been caught a couple of times with price fixing and had to pay out settlements.
I, for the most part, especially this year shop at the local Coop store. Itβs Canadian, and a lifetime membership
Is $10, we get back an equity cheque each year. I have gotten back about $300 since I joined. Itβs not much but itβs more than other places.Rebecca - if I was to spend regular money on something for self care it would be pedicures. I love them. The last one I had, I apologized to her for the hairy legs and she told me itβs a North American thing from where sheβs from they donβt shave.
Michele - I love your woody car.
I had to go back into work for a meeting this evening it was very quick. I stopped and got ice cream on the way home.
Itβs currently 1039 I guess I should head to bed.

Tracey it was me who insisted against wiser headsβ advice that I was ready for University when I was not. A gap year would have done me a world of good, but I wasnβt having it. So stubborn.
Lanette yes and yes. Stepping up onto a platform with one foot, lifting opposite knee. When could do that and hold knee up for a count of 3, then add light weight biceps curls. One day step straight forward (sagittal plane). Next day stand sideways to platform and step up sideways (lateral plane). Next day (rotational), stand sideways to platform then step foot up turning 90 degrees to stand straight forward. Not explaining this well, sorry. Toe injuries affect everything! (hugs)

Getting ready to go into work for my last Friday! I may still do some clean up and work Thursday (last day). But I don't mind because I start long weekends! I am going to take some clothes and stuff over Sunday. Want to get litter boxes and cat stuff set up so ready when I bring them into the house (pen to do that on Friday). Will be busy this next week but it is all good.
Take care all,

Thanks for all the kind words about my Dad. Your support is very helpful. He seems to have forgotten the idea of selling the house and moving. Yay! I might tell him he can't sell because the house is in a trust, if he brings it up. I'm getting closer to lying to him every day. So sad.
Machka Dad talks about his early childhood daily but he talks about other times too.
In the early days of my husband's brain injury, his mind roamed between being about 20 years in the past, being in a place of his brain's own creation where I was the one who was injured and he was visiting me in hospital (!!π―) and being in the present. It was hard to keep up!!
But the point is that your father's brain is not his own anymore. Nothing he is doing is his fault and whatever he says or does is not about you β¦ it's not a comment on how well you are doing something or whatever.
So if he says he wants to sell the current house and return to his childhood house, it has nothing to do with you - he's not saying you're doing a bad job, it has everything to do with him returning to his childhood days in his mind. He's returning to the memories that are the most established in his mind.
I know it's hard, but going forward, don't take anything negative he says personally. As I said, his brain is not his own anymore. Imagine you're a duck and negativity is rolling off you.
You've probably done Google searches and found these already, but just in case β¦
(and more!)
One of the things most websites about dementia and specifically Alzheimer's disease (and also brain injury) is to not contradict the person or point out where the person is wrong. Just roll with it. Ask the person about their past because you might find out all sorts of interesting things.
Also I found that creative agreement and distraction helped.
If your father suggests selling the house β¦ his brain is just doing a weird dementia-related thing. You might nod, smile, and say, "That's an idea." That may satisfy him and he may go off and do whatever. If he persists, you might redirect by asking him if he would like to go for a short walk outside.
If he suggest buying his childhood house, you might ask him what his favourite room in his childhood house was or to tell you more about his childhood house.
I hope this helps.

Good morning my friends!
Yes I will have to adapt to bending the truth as he gets worse. I need to get faster and more clever about it. For now I can think of something about two hours late.
Ginny Yay for the new apartment! Sounds like you are having a slow, planned move instead of the one crazy day approach. Excellent!
Margaret you look lovely!
Lanette sorry about the lasting effects of the broken toe.
Lisa love the bag! Interesting yarn.
Rita try a calming med for your dog in the car. The nausea may be related to anxiety.
Heather sorry G is struggling.
Mo wasps! Terrible! Be careful!
Pip yay for your dog search progress!
Michele incline intervals are impressive! Yay!
Terri Happy anniversary!
Well we went out to eat with my sister and my cousin last night. I ate too much and slept in a little. So Dad went outside without his pants again. But no harm done.
My sister is taking an Uber back to the airport today. Hope that goes smoothly. There aren't a lot of drivers around here.
We had a very nice visit. She is such a helpful guest. And conversation is easy and fun. She gave me menu ideas ahead of time then helped fix meals and clean up. So no entertainment stress for me.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I hear you!
I love being nomadic.
I have really struggled with buying the house we're in. We bought it a year ago, and it is a good thing especially for my husband, but in some ways owning feels too permanent.
We did that sort of trip in 2012 β¦ 8 months wandering around the world. It was a pre-retirement retirement. π And I've done several other shorter (but still long-ish: 1-3 months) trips here and there. As well as moving and living in several different places.
Do you work?
Could you do your job in another location?
Is there a way to make your work transportable so that you can work from wherever?
If you're retired, and getting a pension, you might be able to come to Australia and become a grey nomad. Prior to my husband's injury, he and I thought one option for us would be that we'd become grey nomads as we got older. Unfortunately, that's out.
Instead, I will attempt to remain with my current organisation for as long as I can, and be happy with the reasonably long quantities of leave offered to Australian employees.

Terri ~ Happy 59th Anniversary! π Hope you enjoy your meal!
Kay ~ Jasper is a cutie! He probably loves the bouncy chair.
Annie ~ You are doing such a good job being your Dad's care taker. I'm glad you and your sister had a good visit. Machka gave some good recommendations. I was knocked for a loop when I visited my mom in her nursing home and realized she didn't know me and she was scared. It took me about 30 minutes to realize this.
Recurring Automatic Payments: I am learning at last to think about businesses that do this and check them out. I do have a couple that will renew automatically like Amazon and Walmart. The ones that I have had to cancel were things like virus protection services that kept wanting you to add extensions, Consumer Reports, and Pay Pal.
