I have been involved in a project that has kept me too busy to stay caught up I guess.
I am making a flip style album of my Ancestors. I am fortunate on my maternal side that I have photos of my 4x great grandfather. I haven’t decided to include them as yet, but have started with my maternal great grandparents, I don’t have pictures of my paternal side.
Anyway, this was my desk last night as I was deciding on what photos to include.
So I’m living in the past right now.
I came across this photo in my grandmother’s collection. I posted it on a memories FB page of the Hartland area and someone responded with the news article. I don’t know who the man was, but he was lucky.Sometimes I love the internet.

Thank you for sharing the bit about juncos, Carol. That was so sweet of you.
Our cat, happily, was able to go outside early this evening. The juncos have relaxed. Two weeks ago, I was sure one of them, the cat or the birds, would get hurt. The birds were being reckless in their aggressive behavior towards the cat. All is calm now.

All who commented about hubby. Thank you!
He has taught community college and would love to again. Our local college has a position he would be perfect for, but they need someone bilingual in Spanish. No hard feelings, we both get it, but it was a little frustrating. I told him he should apply anyway, just in case. But it's a lot of work, when you are missing a key requirement.
In the prison all day today. The guys were in great moods. They were peer reviewing the final drafts of their senior projects and it was so nice to hear their genuine support and admiration for each other. They have come so far. This group has had a rough time getting along over the years, but they have put all that behind them and work really well together. They graduate in December, and I'm going to miss them.
Much love.

Flea - Great work with the prison guys. So worthwhile. They will never forget you. 🤩 When I was young I taught 'Liberal/General Studies/Drama' to all kinds of people. I loved it. I had miners, craft apprentices, telephone engineers, Thames Lightermen, post office boys, and more. After initial resistance, they were so attentive and enthusiastic. We even made a film. They wrote poetry, did art appreciation, with such concentration. I remember them fondly.
Pip - I love the name Ethel. It was the name of my grandmother's oldest sister. She looks very healthy and shiny. Lucky dog to have you as parents.
My friend L has written me a lovely review for 'What If … I Am'. Almost an essay! 😂 (It's not scary at all, Barbara. It's meant to be inspiring. 🤗) I feel my next book teasing at me and slowly taking shape in the back of my brain. Scotch Eggs will be prominently featured.
I'm still pondering on the cupboard…........ more research........

OK , I've bought one. Cheap and cheerful, and I can always upgrade if something better turns up. Most importantly it is shallow, to fit into my alcove, and I can still get around the bed. Coming tomorrow. I think it will suit the room.
Ever hopeful, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Tracey - Love that old newspaper article and the photo. The men's butcher's caps are adorable! John bought Max one just like that. 😃 You are doing a great job with your archiving.

Thank you Rori !
Lanette and Carla I made it through both nights with only a few small branches down at my home. I think getting those trees trimmed when I did helped. I am also near the bottom of a hill that protects me some. We have had parts of our fence knocked down in this kind of weather. Fence made it through this time! Son's house had more branches down when I checked yesterday. There is a 80 year old Linden in front of the house. I haven't been over there yet today! I will probably have more branches to pick up again today. I love trees so if this is the worst of it I feel lucky. We did lose some trees in my neighborhood.
Some Zinnia to brighten the day!
Finished another painting that
I like…

OMGOSH, Pip… I Love Lucy…….. I mean Ethel! LOL She's absolutely adorbs and looks like she fits in just beautifully. Everyone seems to love her too. And she already seems to be "leading" the pack. hahaha… What a doll.
Made it through the storms without a scratch, thanks! 81,000 without power today though throughout the cities. Cut quite a large swath through the state, but it was fast. Not as many reported tornados or as much serious damage as yesterday although we thought it was going to be worse. Apparently it didn't develop like they thought it would. Thank God for small favors.
Love and Blessings

Pip, Ethel looks like she fit right in! She seems happy to be at her forever home!
Endame, I tried it at a Japanese restaurant once, I got sick. Turns out I'm allergic to the protein in them. I hate being allergic to foods! I miss out on so much! Sunday, my DH made beef stroganof and I got really sick from that. Found out the noodles were made out of egg whites. Really did me in! I love noodles too! 😕
Doc later today and I think I will stop at PetCo for something to calm Lucy down for the car ride to the vet Thursday. Need some fruit too.
I med the most interesting person at the visitor center yesterday. Turns out he is a test pilot, flight instructor, and astronaut (yes, you read that right) for India and is slated to go into space in 2026 as the commander for the first manned flight of India. He is currently training at NASA in Houston! He was really nice, and we had a good discussion about UFO's and aliens! 👽️
Thought for today:
Odds are slim that I’ll visit a casino to gamble.
But I won’t roulette out entirely.

Beth - happy to hear the surgeon never wants to see you again! I'll bet the staff has fun with the "spicy" old ladies, lol. Thanks for the edamame info.
Lisa - There's nothing wrong with spicy old ladies. I practice a lot myself. ACK that blistering hot weather. Does Corey have to work outside in this? And the lawn crews? I guess if they are used to it but man oh man. 😲
Pip - Ethel looks like she has lived with you and Kirby forever. What a nice addition to your family. 😍Looks like she has some pittie in her sweet face. I have a friend who got one in Yakima several years ago who looks a lot like Ethel and she's a big sweet baby who gets beat up by the cat, lol.
Margaret - glad you made it through the storm will little damage. Your zinnias are gorgeous - my grandmother in Indiana grew them and my micro climate here just isn't conducive to producing any and I miss them. So thank you for posting that photo.
Carla - thanks for letting us know you made it through the storm OK. I hate the feeling of knowing something like that is on the way.
Allie - I wondered if Siri would miss you and it looks like she did! Yes, stay out of that heat for sure.
Flea - I think your DH should apply for that job anyhow. HR might be impressed enough with his resume that while this particular job isn't right for him, they might have another one in mind that he'd be perfect for - if not now, perhaps in a month or two. Now, the trick is to get him to think this is HIS idea, 😁. You are very clever and have probably been working this angle, lol. I have to smile every time you say you "went to prison". So glad your students are appreciative and doing so well. That's probably just the hand up many of them have needed.
Rita - so neat you met that test pilot/astronaut! Did he have any tips on how to get this teleporter fixed? I'd like to incorporate a time machine feature somehow. 😁
Tracey - what a fun project. I love looking at historical photos and reading articles like that. Very easy to get wrapped in time does get away from you.
I've been busy the past couple days playing nursemaid to a sick chicken.
Fairy. Not exactly sure what was wrong with her, she just sat in the chicken pen on Sunday and had no energy, no appetite. Hadn't laid an egg in 5 days tho she's not regular anyhow. 2 - 3 days is normal. Could be that something was wrong with her egg factory - "egg bound" where the egg gets stuck in the apparatus and often submerging the hen's lower half for 10-20 minutes in warm water with plenty of Epsom salts gets things moving. I did that on Sunday afternoon and again yesterday. Didn't produce an egg. But she has perked up, has appetite returning a bit, and is interested in taking walks with the other two and pecking at this and that. Energy returning. Being back with the flock is so important to a hen's (or any flock animal like sheep or goat, for that matter) well being. 🐔 She spent Sunday night in a rabbit pen in the shop to make sure whatever was ailing her wasn't contagious.
Just went out to take a peek at the hens, stepped around the corner of the greenhouse and came face to face with the fawns. Within 4 feet. They held their ground, one stomped its foot. I glared at it and tried to put on a mean face. After a minute, they took off. Next time I'll crouch down and assume a border collie stance and see if it amuses them. If nothing else, it will amuse the neighbors across the fence. There are apple trees on both ends of the chicken run and they are helping keep those apples cleaned up.
Collette will be here in an hour so I need to continue picking up dog toys and beds and shoes and general cleaning off counters.
THANKS TO ALL who gave me Edamame tips! I see Walmart has them shelled in the frozen section and will grab some next time I'm in town. I see lots of recipes on the internet.

Pip - Ethel looks like she's a great fit for the family, already well-behaved and happy.
Margaret - Glad you're OK - Carla - glad you are too! Margaret, the painting's quite lovely, as are the zinnias! My dahlias are really enjoying the heat here.
Flea - Congratulations on graduating another group from the prison! Such a rewarding way of giving back.
Rebecca - I know it's tough for your youngest to kind of be in limbo, but this bit of time with little stress is probably the best thing that could happen for his body. Will give him time to adjust to living with Skyrizi.
Family stuff, sis:
Just got off the phone with my sis - she's dealing with the Social Security. She just got the last piece of paper in, her divorce decree from her second husband, the only one she stayed married to more than ten years. She's been on SSI for quite some time, with an injury to her back from falling off a ladder, but they're pushing her off of that onto regular SocSec, and it appears she will be more than tripling her income! So pleased for her. He was both a workaholic and a skinflint, so this feels like some repayment for the 11 years and three months she stayed married to him. Well, besides her kids. They're pretty awesome.
Family stuff, daughter:
Talked to my daughter yesterday, and she's excited to be moving back stateside, to Scott AFB in Illinois, in about ten months.
Her husband, my DSIL, was kicked out of the Army a couple months ago on a trumped-up charge by a commander that he ticked off a few years back. To keep a very long story as short as possible, my DSIL is a stickler for rules, and reported the commander at their last base together for rules violations. The commander got a slap on the wrist, no more. Then the commander got transferred to Hawaii a year after the two of them got there, and figured out how to get my DSIL up on charges that couldn't be disproved.
Anyway, luckily, they couldn't justify it enough to get a dishonorable discharge, so he got a general discharge, and he has already started working in a contracting position for another division and is re-enlisting in the Army Reserve this week. He would have gotten his retirement half-pay in two years, and now it will take four years, all told, but at least they couldn't take that away from him. Plus he's in a job working with old friends and with half the stress. My daughter said that, now it's over and he's back to work, she's never seen him happier.
And, to tie it all up with a bow, his job in the Reserves will transfer with him, no problem. They're also looking for trainers in his career field as contractors all the time, as well, so he should be able to get a job within a few weeks of getting there.
So for me, I plan on finishing up at least one project and getting a little more writing done. Hope you're having or have had a lovely Tuesday…
Love y'all!

Joe’s en route to court in Crescent City. He got a speeding ticket last week but the CHP was kind, wrote him up for 60mph (instead of the higher actual) and “overlooked” the unfastened seat belt. It will cost him $$$ and online traffic school, but Joe is relieved it wasn’t worse. His strong efforts to cultivate a calm positive attitude are really showing.
Carla amen! Glad to hear you and Margaret weathered the storms in safety.
Debbie when I first read Mapo Tofu, by brain said “Maypo tofu? Hot maple cereal tofu? NoWay!”
Lanette and Barbie, I love hearing about your pre-dawn walks. It is one of my favorite times of the day but I can never get up dressed and out that early. Even when I wake at 5 my morning routine seems to take two hours…
Beth dismissed from breast surgeon, best news ever!
Lisa hooray for reconnecting with favorite people. That’s just toodamhot! Does your emoji mean you’re writing again? Sounds like both your sister and your son-in-law are reaping some good karma at last!
Allie even 98 is just toodamhot unless you’re in the desert where the humitidy is less than 10 percent. Tell Siri you need some space to cool off!
Pip Love little miss E.M.! She seems relaxed and “at home.” Really love the pics of all three walking together. I can manage Mooch and Shadow, but can’t quite add Tumble to the mix.
Tracey wow what a picture and story. Sometimes I just love the internet too!
Flea hope your DH will apply despite not meeting the Spanish “requirement”. Sometimes needs can scale back down to wants for the right applicant. Would you remind me about your prison program. Sounds inspiring!
Heather will give What If.. I Am a read, sorry I wimped out on your first. Your writing is just so very evocative. Hope the right deco sideboard pops up in your local op shops, to replace the cheerful but modern one. I still regret not buying the art deco sconces I once saw and remember to this day.
Rita love how you get to meet so many different, interesting people. Would love to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation about UFOs… ;)

Good afternoon my friends!
Dad's back is much better but I still kept him home today. It's a four hour class sitting in a basic chair, so he would have been in pain.
Machka sorry about the messy project. I once did a group programming project with a guy who couldn't spell. Agonizing! But it made me proud of my meticulous work.
Lisa Yay for Dakota! Yay for losing five pounds! Yay for your sister's income! And glad things will be okay for DSIL.
Barbara good luck finding Joe time!...My sister said Dad is getting slowly worse but didn't elaborate how. His ability to hold a conversation is dwindling.
Beth excellent news! Wonderful!
Pip Yay for Ethel! Congratulations!
Margaret such happy zinnias! And a lovely painting!
So glad Margaret and Carla missed the worst of the storm.
Lanette you are a chicken doctor! Glad Fairy is better.
The sugar demon got me yesterday. Better today, so far. Tomorrow is Dad's birthday cake, so more temptation. One medium slice would be okay, but no more.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Hey kids - I did want to say that I know I got only my daughter's version of her husband's issues with the commander, and I'm very well aware that is third hand. I will never know what the exact situation was, and will never ask, and I am perfectly OK with her version and his. I'm not oblivious, I've just decided that, if my daughter's OK with that, then I am and will be in future.
And, here are Corey's tomatoes from last week in the sink to wash, and then what they cooked down to, two half-pint jars of "pizza paste" a very reduced tomato, garlic and carrot mixture roasted for hours with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, and then put through a rotary food mill.
Later,

Lisa - I'm so fascinated by what your writing project is. And envious.
Today's triumph- ironing the purloined napkins, and my grandmother's tablecloth . I haven't ironed anything for years!!!
Maybe my envy of Lisa will spur me into action. I emailed my ex for some information which I couldn't remember, but he hasn't replied. I will just have to own up to amnesia.
Having a very quiet week. John is up for an outing, but we have Amazon deliveries. I don't think I can leave a cupboard behind the bins. I hope I like it. I still have to put.the legs on the chair I bought. For some reason it defeated me. John has offered to help.

mapo/mobu tofu is ground beef(or turkey)cooked with diced up tofu with a spicy sauce. The one I made last night was a new one- mild, not much flavor at all. Will not be buying it again. I am sure son and his girlfriend added more chili oil to theirs as they like it a bit more spicy.
https://thewoksoflife.com/ma-po-tofu-real-deal/
I take the short cut way and just buy the premade sauce in a box.
Lots of running around today-
Watering the back garden while I wait for dh to get his shower then going over to 168, our big Asian market to pick up some snacks for Saturday. Hoping the still have some of the fish jerky we picked up on clearance- only bought one pack of each because we didn't know if we would like it- it is really good actually. Fun, low calorie snack.
I will go over at 1:30 for mammogram-appt is at 2 but hope to get in early. While I am there, dh is going over to pick up Chinese food to take to mom's. As soon as I am done we will head up the back way up to the lawyers in my home town-appt is at 4 and it takes about 1 1/2 hrs to get there- yep, cutting it close but I didn't want to cancel my appt that took over 2 months to get and he wants me to go with him plus don't want to miss a chance to see mom, even if it will be a quick one.Went to Black Friday yesterday- we go there too much ;)
The biggest bargain I got was a 4 pack of Bomba socks- Amazon sells them for almost $50 and I paid $4!!! Wore a pair to class last night. Very comfy and will be great during the winter as they are a bit on the thicker side. I needed short black socks(have plenty of white ones) and these ones were not only black but also in my size(I have little feet- wear a size 5 1/2-6)
I also picked up a few things for our class reunion that is coming up in Oct- backdrop for pictures and stand up picture frames-clear acrylic- that I will have my friend print pictures from the year book to put on the tables. 12 for $4 Amazon price is $34.Garden is watered, still waiting for dh to get out of the shower.
Had time to post a bit/planning our 45yr class reunion-coming up beginning of Oct.
Need to really start working more on that. Hard to believe it has been that long.Debbie
