😀 I did it. I went to the neighbourhood bbq. I just ate the hot dog I'd been thinking about with a bun, some onions, pickles, and tomatoes. I skipped the baked beans, pasta salad, chips, soft drink, and cupcake. I sat with people I knew and joined the conversation. It was fun but I didn't feel like I wished I could do it again any time soon. The dogs were fine being left for almost two hours. No damage, but Annie was very excited to see me when I got home.
😀 Michele, Either Jess and Colby can eat the meals you prepare when you prepare them or they can take care of their own shopping, cooking, and clean up.

gave Lucy A bath outside. 1st attempt in giving Ethel a bath, she’s not a fan of the hose. I have a small collapsible pool that I put some water in and was able to give her a bath 3/4 of her. I used a bucket and put some soap in the bucket and was able to wash her that way. Treats were handy.

Oh, no worries. We aren't directly off the coastline, but in Puget Sound, so lots of other coastlines to slow any larger waves. Plus we're up on a hill that overlooks Oak Harbor so we're where everyone escapes to. When we lived in Hammond Oregon directly on the coast, we were told to evacuate to our designated area, a cemetery up on a higher elevation. Fitting..🙄😂. Most of the locals all decided to just meet at the local bar, and just have that one last drink. There wasn't going to be any driving anywhere as all the roads would be gridlocked, just as there wouldnt be any getting off this island. We have supplies. Its all good.

Michele - It's time to talk all of this out with her and Colby right now in the early days and find something that works and tell her your concerns. She might already have good ideas for making meal prep easy and comfortable for everyone in the house. I would personally find it too congested if I were trying to prepare something for DH and me with someone else waiting to take over the kitchen. Whatever the plan, clean up is important.
Lisa - glad your vertigo is subsiding. You keep that crochet hook smoking! Again, love the colors. Do you have a wall full of yarn?
Rebecca - glad you didn't float away! The tsunami warning/advisory I first looked at last night didn't have it coming down to Whidbey but I know they were revising it constantly. Makes sense that all the water in Puget Sound could be impacted.
Barbie - glad you got your hot dog fix and the doggies did a good job being patient until you got back. Annie is starting to show definite signs of maturing.
Rita - maybe the Astronaut/Alien wanted to check out the scene of the Roswell UFO crash. Perhaps it was his great grandfather who was steering it when it crashed. We need more information from him if he stops by again. Also the teleporter/time machine update - tell them you're on your break so you have time to grill him for me, lol. 😁

- Talk to them.
- Is there a kitchenette in the basement? Or at least a sink and place for a microwave and small fridge? If so, then they can probably make most of their own meals.

Carol – I may not have explained myself correctly. Say, on Sun I’ll make a roast, portion it out, put most of it in the freezer but just keep the portion we’ll use that week. I do make most of our meals from scratch, mainly because Vince is so pickey. At least I know what’s in the food and what I need to hide from him (like vegetables). Now I know that J & C like spicy-er food like Mexican. Vince won’t go near it. That’s why I was thinking if she cooked on MwandF then they can have Mexican-type food and we can give Vince shrimp. Who knows? Maybe they’d rather do things on their own every day. We shall see….
Lisa – as always, lovely pillows
Took Ganon out but it was sprinkling so I brought him in the house and I took a walk (with the umbrella). He probably would have gotten upset at the thunder.
Barbie – good for you getting out and having that hotdog and for passing on the other things
M – no kitchenette in the basement, but there is a wet bar with a mini fridge and a small microwave.
J&C being here: I guess this is just going to be a lesson for me to give it time, let it play out, see what happens. So many times I want an answer at the moment and I need to be patient. It’s pretty hectic moving. Right now they’re at their place, a cleaning lady was there today. They took the Outlook since it’s larger than J’s car so they can bring more here. I know she needs to bring her tomato plant, they said they had food in their refrig and coolers so I bet that’s part of what they’ll be bringing. Probably the air mattress they slept on (their bed is in storage), our air pump for the bed and other things. Oh, C took my small table I have in my exercise room for his laptop, I think he was going to work at least part of the day.
Allie – please take care of yourself. You take such care of everyone else.

Mo,
I have core memories of the summertime sweeping out of dead flies in our playhouse. When my grandfather and my dad built our house they had leftover stuff so we had a "she shed" before that was ever a thing! It had a foundation poured, siding, the bare studs no insulation though, but a proper roof with shingles, and two windows with a door. But flies got in and the procreated! So all our toys went out, Barbie clothes washed, etc. This was every summer like clockwork! The floor was literally black with black flies! Terror level 5 unlocked! 😂😂. Being out in the country, we cooled off in the old white porcelain claw footed tub that was out in the field for the cows water trough. Nothing like surprising cows when they lumbered up! I did get braver though, and played out in the garden, pulling up carrots, munching on cherry tomatoes, berries, and making clay pots from a vein of clay that was on the corner of the garden area. So I didn't mind being dirty.💖
Not sure how long it will take for the Navy to settle things regarding youngest son. It's a matter of the medical community being satisfied with his health. He still has months to see if the home infusions he will do with Skyrizi will continue to do what they're supposed to do. Then once and only once the medical community is satisfied can they even start any sort of separation board proceedings and paperwork. Right now he's just holding tight, taking his meds the way he's supposed to, eating well, he'll take his first home infusion by himself this week sometime. I will chat with him this weekend to see how that went, and how he's feeling. He was is good spirits last call though.👍🏼💖

Why are you getting Sean's clothes? Did something happen? (I know he got hit while on his bike, but I thought he was mostly fine.)
Barbie — Good for you for going to the BBQ and having a hot dog. It sounds like fun.

Hello Everyone;
Michelle, it is so hard to please everyone. I let my son choose what he wants to eat. I don't change what I do for DH, DS, or DD. I know what works for me. DH and I are on the same page about eating healthier. DH loves rice, and he eats more calories than I do.
Rose got sick today, so I decided that she needs smaller portions and should eat her food and not mine. Sundays for dogs are not cheap. I add cheese and food I don't want to finish. I went out with my friends to a Greek restaurant and ate 1/2 of my wrap. I gave the rest to Rose, and she did not tolerate it. I worked out early, took a shower, and got into bed to read, and then I passed out for the count. I made pizza tonight with my keto sandwich thins. Each 1/2 was the crust, and I put pizza sauce by Raos, mushrooms, spinach, peppers, onions, and pepperoni, and Mozzarella cheese. It was actually good. I put the other 1/2 in the fridge.
DH is flying out to Florida to help his mom. Now her memory is fading. She thought it was 1974. So she is going to assisted living. His sister set up a living trust, and they worked well as a family. Unfortunately, MIL decreased Doris's share to 10%, because she didn't visit or check on her. I guess the Grandkids are out too(as they should be).
My friend Linette says she gained 40 pounds, so the doctor is putting her on Ozempic. I told her to join MFP. We will see. You can not just give someone a medication and not help with figuring out calories and provide supportive services.
Lisa, I wonder if it was your electrolytes for the vertigo or allergies. You helped me the other day, because my eye was itching like crazy and I was sneezing. When you mentioned allergies, I realized that I didn't take my Allegra.
Heather, I love that cute storage cabinet. I may get one when I move.
I am so glad you all and your families are all safe from the Tsunami.
Barbie, I was telling my friend that I've reached the point where my house is my happy place. I love being alone like a hermit. She feels the same. I get overstimulated at work, so peace works for me.
I did enjoy catching up with everyone. Our kids all went to school together, so we like to see how they're doing. My friend has two adult children, and the youngest is in third grade.
Rebecca, I hope your son doesn't feel closed in. When you talked about the flies, I just saw on IG a case where the guy evicted his tenants and saw dozens of flies in the window. He decided that he didn't want to go in there. They showed the flies, and I was freaking out.
I just finished a good book called These Summer Storms, by Sarah MacLean. Shocking ending, but I should have known. Well, goodnight everyone. I have to go in the am to have an EGD done. 😫

Very quiet here. I've been chatting with friends on the phone, and vicariously travelling around England through them. L has been to Winchester with her 80 year old sister, and G had a great time in Bath, and felt her relationship with her granddaughter was back to a good state. Much relief. Today we have schoolfriends Zoom. P is in her house in France.
I have some new 2kg dumbbells waiting for me on the hall table. John went to pick up this smallish package in the porch yesterday, and got a shock at the weight of it! 😂
I have to go out to the pharmacy this morning, and will buy some flowers at the same time. Then it's putting together the cabinet. It weighs a ton, so we will have to open the box downstairs and bring the bits up in stages. I suppose the weight is a sign of decent quality. 😏 It doesn't have to be done in one day. I still haven't screwed in the legs of the chair I bought!
The girls are loving their week of the 'West End Experience'. It's a week's theatre workshop with real West End performers. 😃 John and I are going to the performance on Sunday evening, with the family. It's at Roedean School, on the other side of Brighton. May just get an Uber. We are missing them soooo much. 💔
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Wet bar with fridge and microwave ... they're set to make their meals on their own!
Just add a plug in kettle for coffee & tea and a toaster oven and they'll have all they need for a month or two.

Bugs in general … don't bother me. Except for the big moths or other big flying insects.
Spiders … I treat with respect. They don't freak me out, but I prefer that they remain outside for the most part.
Flies … are incredibly common around here.
Wasps and hornets … are horrible!
Bees … are lovely. 😍🐝
That's me in my bee outfit.
That was at our previous place.
We've got one of those hives now. We sold the other one and bought a different style of hive which we'll set up in the spring.
In our current place, I'll be standing in the backyard with Rhody (cat) sort of near the hive and quite often bees will hit me in the head (fly into my head) to let me know to move out of their flight path. 😄 Other times, they'll come up to me and fly around my face to say "hi". ☺️ Sometimes they'll walk on me. They're really calm … but then, I'm calm around them.

Sorry you're not enjoying the current piece you're working on. That's kind of exhausting, as you have to keep pounding away at something you really don't enjoy.
Lisa: It's done … I think. I submitted it on Monday.
I did the job back in January/February - it was one of the reasons why I was overwhelmingly busy right from the beginning of this year. Back then, I hoped it was finished and I'd never see it again.
But it reared its ugly head again last week.
It needs so much work and if I had the time and if it actually belonged to me, I could fix it. But it's one of those things that no one really wants and it ended up suddenly being dropped in my lap when I was in my previous unit. Since then I've moved into another unit so it's really not my job now. Nevertheless, since I was the last person who worked on it, I was commandeered to make some updates. I've done that and handed it back with an instruction manual (which I did back in Feb & updated a little now) and a recommendations for improvement document which I did up on Monday.
The rest of the week has been better.

Hey, kids…
Just dropping by quickly before I go outside and get Corey's garden watered. Definitely making more marinara this weekend; his tomatoes are producing like mad, I've got three dozen to work with already and probably another dozen by the time I get them roasting on Sunday.
He'll probably have to pick a couple peppers this weekend and get those pickled for his lunches. (Ha! Tongue twister for a Thursday morning… 😂) Which reminds me, I need to buy some carrots if I actually leave the house. I've got PT tomorrow, and with going into town twice for physical therapy each week, it's hard to convince myself to go any other time.
Allie - Sorry you're tired and feeling rotten again, kiddo.
Michele - Lots of advice for you from others, but I definitely land to the side of leaving it up to J&C to deal with their own food and just stick with your own routines the way they are. Otherwise you could end up making four different dishes for one meal, and that's more work than anyone should have to do. If I remember right, they even prefer to eat at different times, so use of the kitchen won't be an issue.
Machka - Glad you've at least got that one out of your hair for a while…
Bugs - most bugs don't bother me at all, except red wasps, and I'll run from those like Phoebe running in Central Park (Friends reference). The only bug spray I will use is the one built just for them that you can spray from 12 feet away. I still have a scar on my arm from the last one that hit me, and it hurt like stink. As for the rest, it's pretty much live and let live unless they surprise me, then I'm not responsible for my instantaneous response. I even told Corey not to surprise me when we were dating. There's a reason… 🤨👀🤨😂
And… Time to go out and get his garden taken care of… supposedly, we're going to get a few hours of rain late this afternoon, so I think I will leave the flowers to take their chances, but the garden can do well with both morning and evening water.
OK - the way I look running from a wasp, for those who didn't watch Friends:
Love y'all,

I bought some lovely asters from the flower shop. They were one of my grandmother's favourite flowers. These are British grown (unusual) and very natural looking. It brought back memories of my grandmother and her garden. She used to teach me all the names of the flowers.
Drizzly out. I made it home before the rain. John did the veg shop and got a bit damp.
G has booked to go to Marrakesh at the end of August. She was tempted because it was very cheap, for flights and a 5 star hotel. I pointed out that it would be extremely hot! Fortunately, she is happy to just relax, be pampered, fed, and go in the swimming pool. :-)

After surviving the two storms we now have five days of unhealthy air from the wildfires. I bought extra N95 masks when it hit the last time.
I wore my mask at the outdoor concert I went with with my son. Loved the music it was music from Peru, Columbia, Bolivia, and Ecuador. I was one of the few who wore a N95 mask. We did not take DrewB because I didn't want her out in that air.
I continue to run my air purifier at night. It is a small one made for the size of my bedroom. I also put a smog filter on my son's furnace/AC unit. We have hot water heat so no vents. I am keeping house closed with minimal in and out. I am going to start looking into ones for other areas of my home.

Carol - how was your visit with the ortho doc? So sorry to hear your leg is affected. Hope there's a remedy that can get you active again.
Machka - do you have bumblebees there? The fireweed growing along my sidewalk is now over 6' tall and the pink flowers are covered with the friendly native bumblebees. I often stand out there for a while and they just buzz around me like I'm part of the landscape. Just fascinating to watch! Haven't seen many yellowjackets or any of the mean bald-faced hornets this year.
Mo - I've been tempted to try making keto bread pizza and it's on the menu now. With both your and DH's mothers in the south, are you a little reticent to leave that area and move to Chicago? Tho a person can get anywhere by airplane. During the last couple years of my parent's lives, I was flying back to Indiana every few months. I got to know O'Hare and Midway airports like the back of my hand. After they passed, I haven't been on a plane since. I know for folks who are used to flying, it's no big deal. Sorry to hear about Rose's upset tummy.
Lisa - I smile every time you post that you are happy you don't have to go anywhere for a while. Same here. Next week I'm totally open - no appointments so I'm planning my menu and weekend shopping list to make sure I don't run out of anything mid-week. Love hearing about your tomato crop and sauces.

Back inside for the rest of the day… and happy for it, yes.
Lanette - Any day I get to stay home is a good day, and isn't that a wonderful place to be in our lives? I thought, as we're passing the seven-year mark in this house, that I would be itching to travel, to go, to not be in one place. I'm not. I love it here, and blooming where I'm planted this time has been a lovely thing.
Tina - I really do understand your itch to travel, and looking back, even if it wasn't a conscious thing, I always seemed to sign up for a life of constant movement. I didn't like the process of traveling much, but loved being in different places, seeing different things throughout that peripatetic life. But oh, I love this one even more. The traveling was momentary and lovely bits of awe and wonder, but when you love where you live, it's constant, low-level joy with the process and the results, shifting into awe as a hummingbird buzzes by you, and wonder when you wake up and a tree has burst into bloom overnight. I hope you find what fills you with joy. I think about you often.
Mo - You might be right, it might be the allergies and leaving off that medication for nearly a week. The vertigo is making me nearly nauseated this morning, especially if I look up to try to do ANYthing. When I finish this post, I'm headed into the bedroom to lay down and do the Epley Maneuver and see if I can get my ears to settle back down. Sometimes it takes a few tries, but it often will move it to at least a bearable level.
Memories of my mother have been overwhelming for almost two weeks, and it's been 26 years now she's been gone. Couldn't (or wouldn't) figure it out as to why it was so bad right now, but my sister reminded me that last week was when she died in 1999. I deliberately forgot the day, at least with my conscious mind. I don't think "death-iversaries" are necessarily a healthy thing at all… but I guess my heart didn't forget.
That and what I said to Tina reminded me - I hung up another hummingbird feeder in her honor… but don't get too gushy over the hanging baskets. I've not been able to keep ANYthing in a hanging basket alive, for whatever reason, so I threw my hands up and got some silk morning glories just for the baskets in the front. A hummingbird was even checking out one of the flowers, so I thought I'd give them a place to go when they get disappointed by the fake pretties… 😂👀😅
Time to go see if I can get my eyeballs to stop wobbling around like a ball bearing in one of those little tilty games we used to play for a few days and then lose under the bed…

Thunder, lightning, and pouring rain. First time in months! Spectacular!
Lisa - So sorry about the vertigo. I'm amazed you can do the Epley manoeuvre by yourself. I always do it for John, and he is screaming and trembling. Then he wears a neck support for the rest of the day. It definitely works though.
Got an email back from my ex. He doesn't remember which bands we had for the street parties in the 70s. But he is having dialysis 3 times a week, has a bone on bone knee they can't operate on because of a hidden infection, and now has really bad cataracts and can hardly read at all. He is waiting for a NHS appointment, but I told him to just get it done privately. And quickly! I had principles over my hips, but screaming pain soon gets you over your scruples. Everyone I know has had their cataracts done privately. B is having her second eye done next Monday. I feel very sorry for him. He is younger than John. The family are going up to Scotland to see him for the last week of August. They stay in an AirB&B petting farm nearby. I would love to visit, but I'm not sure his wife would be thrilled.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Lanette ~ All I found out from visiting the dr was that I will be getting an MRI. I have never had one so this will be an experience. A part of my mind keeps asking: Is it my hip or is it my back?
Michele ~ You have been given good advice regarding J & C and eating. I know you will end up doing what works best for you all. You have been very good about being there for them whenever they need yourhelp.
Lisa ~ WOW! I like your fake hanging baskets. They really look pretty with your front porch.
MO ~ Sorry Rosie got sick. My DH fed our Pom off his plate and the Pom got to the point that that was all he would eat. It was not good for him at all so I hope you can get Rosie to start eating her kibble.

😀 A character in the book I was reading last night told her friends that as a new widow she put "get out of bed" on her to do list so she would have something to cross off. I know that am very accomplishment inclined and feel the day is not a good one if I don't accomplish something. It would probably help to put *brush teeth ^get dressed * eat breakfast on my list so I'd feel more productive as I crossed them off.
😀 Carol, I've had two MRI's and both of them were able to pinpoint a problem that could be corrected. The MRI provided more precise information than other diagnostic techniques. I hope you get some good information.
😀 dogs and people food, Jake told me that people food is not good for dogs and then he'd make popcorn for them or feed them tidbits off his plate. Now that I'm in charge, all they get is their high quality dog food and treats. I'm not talking about people who make their own dog food out of chicken, veggies, and rice or sweet potatoes. I'm talking about food off your plate.
