- Short walk - ❌
- Cleanup from weekend - ❌
- Garden chores - ✅
- Change doc appointment - ✅
- Visit Mom with daughter and her boys -❤️
I didn't post on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I did log and made pretty healthy choices. On Monday, I got into my car to go to my mom's and saw a huge crack in the windshield. Because of "advanced safety features" that need to be recalibrated, the estimate from the windshield replacement company is over $1,300 - yikes! Because the Telluride has some history of the windshield cracking spontaneously, we're taking it into the dealer first to see if they'll cover it. That won't be for more than a week. In the meantime, I'm really nervous about driving it 😣
Goals for the rest of the week:
- Log
- Hydrate
- Healthy choices
- Short walk/exercise
- 2 chores
- Sleep

@beachwalker99 Check with you insurance carrier. Ours fixes windshields at no cost to us and it doesn't effect our bill. I've had repairs and complete replacements. Worth looking into. Good luck!
The dress I bought that I was worried about fitting was actually a little big. I need to get it hemmed and I may have them take it in a bit as well.
Things here are still a bit daunting, but trying to take it one day at a time. I moved V into her dorm yesterday. Tim couldn't go, and they were out of carts so we had to carry everything in. Definitely a workout. She and I even took the bunk beds down and half lofted hers. Then we went to Target with one of her friends and picked up essentials like energy drinks and Command hooks. It's a 2.5 hour drive so I couldn't stay and help her unpack because the dogs were home alone.
It's been a long time since I've had to run a household solo. Pup needs a lot of attention. He stays up until 11:30 or 12:00 then gets up at 5:30. Which means I go to bed around midnight and get up at 5:30. With my general exhaustion issues, this is a lot. Then there are the household tasks. Tonight is floors and laundry. Oh and I have prescriptions to pick up and need to go to my mom's. All normal stuff, I'm just spoiled and used to having my helpmate there.
Tim's dad was transferred to Cleveland Sunday evening and still hasn't had his surgery. His younger sister who is a teacher is there with dad. Tim took Wed - Friday off to be with his mom. Not sure what is going to happen when school starts Monday. SIL will need to come home. Tim can't vacation forever. He has FMLA paperwork, but that really isn't the answer either as it in unpaid. His mom is going to have to learn to be alone for at least a few hours a day. We have a home health worker who comes M,T,W,F for 3 hours and get her showered and dressed. She will add Thursdays starting on the 28th. None of us know what to do. Like my mother, she does not want to go to assisted living, but I truly see no other option unless we pay for 24/7 in home care. Not that she wants that either…

@beachwalker99 Check with your insurance some policies will repair/replace windshields at no or little cost.
Long story short…
Dresses I bought fit. Actually a little big. Will get hemmed and taken in.
Tim's dad is in Cleveland. He's still waiting to stabilize enough to have the pacemaker/defibrillator in. Until then SIL (teacher) is in Cleveland and Tim is staying with MIL. School starts Monday and Tim needs to go back to work Monday. Have no idea what to do about MIL.
Took V back to Kent State yesterday. It was a good day with lots of lifting and carrying.
Not used to flying solo at home. I'm a little overwhelmed today.

- Got my water and electroytes in
- 10K steps minimum
- Cleaned out old car a bit more

Got really annoyed at work today, found out our merit increases are delayed , FOR THE THIRD TIME. Now its November. I need to find a new job but I feel like its going to be very hard to find something that is comparable in pay/benefits and the ability to work remotely 100% of the time with no travel. So that is holding me back. My local job market is all retail and touristy stuff so no options locally. I am a business analyst in the healthcare industry and have been doing it for 20 + years..Ageism is a real thing.. I have several friends who have also dealt with that when trying to find new jobs. I have never taken any big gaps of time off to be a mom , never left the workforce, stayed up on all my skills and yet I know I will struggle to find a role. I am honestly not sure I even want to stay doing the same thing, feeling ready for a change but not entirely sure what I want to do is lucrative enough.
In the meantime I am starting to focus on my upcoming trip to Iceland. I am going with a childhood friend and we are going to have the best time. Its a big adventure to celebrate turning 50 this year. My guest room bed is currently piled high with all the things I think I plan to take. Its a bit challenging to pack because this is an On -the go- trip and we will be in a new hotel every night so not staying put in any one place as we make our way around the Ring road. I do hope to catch sight of the recent volcano, but not too close, (like so many people are donig , walking on the lave fields)
Burgers for dinner tonight with roasted corn on the cob.

@HappyDonkey75 Looking for work after 50 is a challenge for sure. I can't even imagine switching careers at this stage. I'll be 52 in October. I still haven't heard back from the place that interviewed me 4 times for 2 -4 hours each time. Ughhhhh! I assume they don't want to pay what I'm asking, as they reposted the job on linked in after I applied with a salary range 15k lower than what I'm asking. Oh well, least they could call and say "no"! Best of luck!

All in all yesterday's list was largely completed. I'm taking it as a win. Work today is rather boring (as it is most Friday's). Getting a fair amount done though. Tim said he was going to come home and shower today around 11:00 and let dogs out. Saves me the trip at lunch. This evening after I get a couple of things done, and go to my mom's, I'm going to go over to his mom's and visit a bit. Give him a little break from her. She can be very trying and hurtful. Then home to do more laundry. Will it be colors or whites? One may never know…
Tomorrow is the local half marathon. As I do most years I'm riding bike patrol. It is not a particularly strenuous ride, but I will cover the same 2 miles of rolling hills for about 3 hours by the time the last walkers pass by. Then home for dogs. Maybe I'll get to see hubby.

@HappyDonkey75 Yes, ageism is real. When I was 54, my employer of 31 years decided to "eliminate my position" (VP internal auditor in large regional financial institution). I was 8 months away from qualifying for grandfathered retirement benefits based on my year of hire. Fortunately I received severance for 10 months & an outplacement service. Which I went to, but didn't really use, because I had a few contacts that knew my work, and were willing to hire me. First as a contracted employee for several years, until I was off more than working, then locally in a similar role (which I loved) but different type of business, at a very reduced salary. By that time, I was happy to receive health insurance for myself & hubby plus paid vacations. The hours were 8 - 4:30 which a former manager laughed at and said, what, part-time? That job paid the bills & health insurance and was enough to have extra money & time. I retired the month I qualified for Medicare. Hubby got health insurance on the marketplace for 2 1/2 years until he got Medicare this year. We live a low-key life-style below our means, so it all worked out.
@pridesabtch Seeing your comment "maybe you'll get to see hubby" makes me think of the years my hubby worked 2nd shift (4 p.m. to midnight) and I worked office hours. We would see each other mostly on the weekends, and lunchtimes if I made the trip home weekdays. Sometimes we'd leave notes for each other on the kitchen island. That was always good for a giggle.
Recap 8/14 R ~ A bit humid, high today around 80F & partly sunny. House still closed up (sigh).
- Walked dog 3.37 mi, crossed paths with Biscuit (such a cutie), chatted briefly with K while she was cleaning up storm debris, water at RJ's, noticed McCready now has a tower to see over his fence while he barks at us ~ hilarious! In addition to bubble windows through the fence for him & Molly 😁 happy me & happy dog / OT exercises 😀 3x (thought I did more)
- Buy something for supper at garden ~ pasta plate boxed meal / 1 adult beverage / healthy snacks ~ string cheese / limit sweets ~ shortbread cookie w/ supper / 64+ oz water 😕 only 48 / log all food (best guess) / net calories zero 😀 pretty close!
- Weeded landscape rocks more (ugh) / take rings for appraisal ~ yay, wedding/engagement counted as one since welded / pick up supper / move patio pots & doodads for hubby to mow /
read/ digital declutter / other? 😁 ta-da! - Concert in garden (replacement performer due to death in other group ~ so sad) ~ best weather for concert all summer but we left early since band was just ok ☺️
JFT 8/15 F ~ Another very warm day & humidity getting higher (sigh)
- Due to temp & humidity, walked dog to park & back, along with hubby 1.33 mi 😁 happy dog & happy me / OT exercises
- Teriyaki chicken meal kit for supper / healthy snacks / limit sweets / 64+ oz water / log all food / net calories zero
- Put planters & yard doodads back around patio / weed more rocks / check/water tomatoes / fill watering cans from rain barrels / make hair appt (new place since regular stylist on medical leave) / read / digital declutter / call Mom / other?

@cschmitz110515 - thank you for sharing your story. Its really scary out there . It sounds like your situation worked out ok in the end but it sounds like you were smart about it. Its so rare to see someone who worked for the same company for 31 years! that's impressive. My hubby is set to retire soon from education and he will likely have to do the marketplace insurance thing for a couple of years . He has several side gigs that he's been building for the last few years . We have worked hard to stay mostly debt free other than our vehicles and mortgage.
We got our itinerary sent out to us with all the deets for the trip so I am going to print off and read through all that this weekend. I also need to look for one more pair of hiking pants and shop for replacement daily shoes for the trip, like my Merrell's that are 4 years old and worn out! I have alot of foot issues so I can't wear just anything.
JFT

- Put planters & yard doodads back around patio / weed more rocks / check/water tomatoes / fill watering cans from rain barrels / make hair appt (new place since regular stylist on medical leave) / read / digital declutter / call Mom ❤️ long call due to lots of family news, nothing horrible / other? texts w/ sister as her hubby had his annual ER visit (family joke) & got admitted (kidney stones + infection), rummage sales bc hubby loves them & I got brand new belt for my phone when walking dog for $0.15! 😀 ta-da!

Saturday's half marathon bike patrol was pretty good, I rode for about 2.5 hours as the racers passed by. The ride wasn't fast, but it was a bit tiring as I'm out of shape. Probably got about 15-20 miles in riding back and forth. All I wanted to do after was nap. That was not on the agenda. Laundry and housework were needed. Tim came by the house for a little while Saturday while a caretaker sat with MIL, but he was in a foul mood. He mowed, yelled, took the laundry upstairs and tossed things around. The stress is really getting to him. He did apologize and we salvaged some of the visit. Went to Walmart and to a late lunch. That night he had pretty severe chest pains, and wasn't sure if something was really wrong or if it was a stress induced panic attack. MIL wouldn't leave him alone enough for him to calm down so he suffered. Luckily she goes to bed around 7:30pm and then he was able to relax and do some yoga.
Sunday I went over to his mom's to give her a shower and wash her hair. She wouldn't let Tim do it, and his sister is in Cleveland with his dad. I don't mind doing it, but as I've said before I am not a good caretaker. She is also not a good patient. I managed to fumble through and she was surprisingly patient with me. I had lunch with MIL & hubby, then met a friend for a mani/pedi. It was some much needed girl time. Then it was home to deal with the pooches. The dogs are killing be with their 5:00am wake up call. I do the morning jobs all of the time, but I rarely stay up late with them. That is usually Tim's job. Couple that with the fact that I don't sleep well when Tim is gone and BOOM, 3-5 hours of sleep. I'm on day 5 or 6 of that and it is wearing me down.
Looks like maybe another week before FIL gets home. Tim is trading places with his sister today and going up to Cleveland. I'll miss him, but being with his dad is no where near as stressful as attending to his mom. Hopefully, it will allow him to relax a bit.
Totally bailed on my mom this weekend, just couldn't do it. I was supposed to take her to Goodwill Sunday. I'll do it today.

@pridesabtch - Thanks for the heads up on the insurance. Ours said they'll cover it for $100. We also contacted the dealer who said they'd cover it completely if it's a spontaneous crack. Since the cracks just appeared overnight, that may be the issue.
I know that you and Tim have a lot to deal with right now, so please take care of yourselves. Is there a church or community group that might help a bit with your MIL while your FIL is in the hospital and/or recovering? Maybe consider boarding the pups for a few nights while Tim is with his Dad. And give yourself some grace with the housework. It will keep. ❤️
2 -
@pridesabtch Hugs to you! Like @beachwalker99 said, give yourself some grace… only do what absolutely has to be done, and take care of yourselves (Tim too). Reach out for help if you can. My saving grace when MIL lived with us was hubby's 2 sisters who stayed at our house off & on to help out, especially toward the end. I felt like I was surrounded by in-laws LOL but I was happy for hubby to have that assist (I really wasn't much help, other than provide meals).
JFT 8/18 M ~ Rain to start morning, break, then more rain this morning, more forecast this afternoon. No dog walk.

Thanks y'all. I'm reaching out to a house keeper to see if she can help once or twice a month in the common areas of the house. Of course I'll probably at least mildly clean before she cleans so she doesn't think I'm a slob. lol.
Tim's younger sister helps a lot with their mom and dad as she is local. His older sister lives about 4 hours away, but comes in as often as she can to help. During the summer we had my daughter and my niece to take the occasional shift. We also now have 3 different people who sit with her. One from 10-1 (Mon-Fri), one does a couple hours in the evening on Wednesday and one does 11-5 on Saturday, but we can't figure out 24/7 coverage. I honestly think she just needs to stay solo for an hour or two occasionally because it's just impossible to keep up this schedule and keep our own families and households in order. An hour or two here and there would make a huge difference.

The weather turned cool overnight. so it should be really pleasant for garden chores and walking this week. I'm not sure that the ablation worked completely, but my HR is back down to its normal range and I have a lot more energy. I still have some muscle fatigue and get winded and a bit lightheaded at times, but I've been working on getting my activity level back up and hoping for the best.
I did reasonably well with goals this weekend, getting in a couple of walks and making mostly healthy choices. One of my brothers had his big summer party, so I did stray from my eating plan a bit but kept it reasonable. Then my husband and I went out for lunch on Sunday, but I was able to work within my restrictions. I have a tendency to stress over food choices when I'm watching my diet closely, and it sometimes makes eating out a hassle. But I'm working on planning ahead and being more flexible which makes everybody happier. Grilled fish tacos and black beans for the win!
