Heather - that high rise site messes with the skyline. I imagine over the next few years there will be more.I’m so happy you were able to walk to the beach.

Interesting article on the grandparent care. When Jonah was a baby I kept him every Saturday and Sunday so his mom could work part time. My SIL worked weekends too at that time. My cousin said to me, “I’ll never tie myself down like that caring for a grandchild” “they’re asking too much of you”, “its not your responsibility”, I enjoyed every minute of it and because I had my own car seat and everything I needed at the house to care for him I didn’t find it a burden.
I now watch my cousin care for her two granddaughters a few days a week and she tells me she loves it. I think it depends on the family. Lauryn and Ryan always treated me with respect, they never demanded anything of me, and they understood that I would do things my way when I had them. They also understood that if I did want a weekend off they needed to figure out another plan and not make me feel guilty.I wouldn’t do it if it became a burden or I wasn’t respected I don’t think.

Food bank usage - funnily enough we had a discussion about this yesterday. My neighbour and her son came over and we sat outside for a few hours while her son and Michaela played. Part of that play was them running RC cars in the street. As we were sitting there another neighbour came out and offered us a lot of fruit and vegetables from the food bank. He wouldn’t eat what he was given, didn’t even know what some of it was or how he would cook it. He told us to take what we wanted because he was just going to throw it in the garbage. We both took some and some we had to throw out because it was already turned. My neighbour said there is a lot of food bank food on a community mom group looking for trades because their kids won’t eat what they were given. There maybe could be some communication at the food bank before giving items.

Lanette - I have a friend that has “forgotten where she came from”, she doesn’t remember struggling ever and doesn’t think that breadwinners losing a job is a reason to get behind. I stay away from certain subjects with her.

I’m glad you checked on Rebecca Lisa.Hopefully she’s on the mend soon.

I took a 5 day weekend. I was going to keep Michaela for two nights with her brother joining the second night. Rodger had Jonah bring his PS5 and they played on it all weekend. Michaela and I watched the 1993 made movie of The Little Rascals Friday evening and last night we watched a movie on Disney+ called Go Figure. I took them home this morning. I then went and signed a petition and then worked on another album.

I am off tomorrow as well, Kaitlyn is coming and I’m taking the car to the mechanic.

    I’m off to bed,

Rebecca - Sending gentle hugs. 💕 So sorry you are experiencing all this. Miserable.🤗

Going to be warm today. I must wash my hair before I do anything else. I've been putting it off for days. No idea why! 🙄 😯

I have a phone call at 4 pm with L. I expect I will chat with G, but our normal catch up time is occupied by carers.

My knee is sore, but it works OK. I did my exercises this morning. No long walks today.

Otherwise, on with the book. 😁

Machka - does the fresh paint help attract bees?

No … although it is blue, so maybe. 🐝 But probably not.

The hive is brand new, and the paint protects the wood from the elements. The top has 3 coats of blue, the sides will be done in tung oil.

It's a lazutin or layens hive, like the ones on this page. That page is from our bee club. If you go to that page you'll see that people have decorated their in all sorts of different ways. We're keeping our simple. When it's done, we'll take a photo which may be added to that page … and I'll probably post it here too.

    https://www.naturalbeekeepingtasmania.com.au/layens

Our other hive is a Warre - a tall skinny one. It also has a blue roof and tung oil body, so our two different hives will be a set.

    Good Monday,

Yesterday turned into a semi productive, relaxing day. DH's belly wasn't cooperating with leaving the comfort of home. I got in hot tub, removed weeds and baby trees from flower beds, vacuumed, did a little work stuffs(not enough but apparently needed a down day), read some while sitting on back porch, and watered plants. Had planned on a car show.....granddaughter did go anyway. She had a good time.

Glad that everyone is on the mend. This is your reminder that we take a little longer to heal these days. Give yourself grace.

Foodbanks- around here they are always announcing the need for common foods, not exotic. Our rules for donations are weird. Example..at high end restaurant I worked at, open food was only kept 3 days. It was still good and perfectly fine to use, but 3 days was storage limit. That food was thrown out. I asked why we weren't donating to the soup kitchens or homeless. The answer was, it is against the law. It was okay for them to dumpster dive, but not to accept "clean" food? Males no sense. In Dayton, (i only know here not other place rules) if a hunter has an abundance of meat to donate, it must be professionally processed and packaged. Thankfully the hunters I know all use what they hunt. However there are those that trophy hunt. Such a waste of good meat. It just seems wrong to me to have rules in place that make hungry people dumpster dive. Such a sue happy society we live in. I can't fix the system, so donate often.

Better get going. DH has dentist appointment before work then massage after work. I need to try to get Cali into vet. She woke up with a watery eye yesterday. If medicine is needed I need to get that done before vacay.

    Have a blessed day!

Make the best choices you can in the moment.

Remember you are loved and important!

    Morning, y'all,

It appears the weather critters are on the ball, as the rain should be starting in about an hour and a half. My Monday morning laundry loads will have to be dried inside, and not on the line… less effort, but less enjoyment of my sun-dried towels, too…

Life is just a bunch of trade-offs.

    Feeling philosophical this morning again.

Glad Rebecca's OK and hope Barbara's sciatica clears up fast, and Allie, I hope you've been able to rest and feel better and not feel so urky. Hope everyone is doing well, feeling well, and enjoying their Monday, whether past, present or future.

I have a purring kitty on my lap, who figured out how to ootch in there before I started typing, so I'm having to long-arm these words… 😂👀😹 I'll talk to y'all later.

Barbara - I know how miserable sciatica is. Hugs. I had a bad bout around 1977 and it was so difficult. The good thing is, it made me sit still, or as still as I could with a toddler. My MIL came to help. I became fascinated with making small pieces for a doll's house, which resulted in my buying a kit to make one. Eventually, that obsession led to me writing my first ever children's book, about a boy going into a doll's house at night. 'Changes In The Night'. So you never know where enforced immobility may lead you! :-)

I did my writing, then suddenly got the urge to clean the drain in John's shower! It's been annoying me for weeks. Done! When I came down to make lunch, John was cleaning the rubbish bins and the cupboard they are stored in. So, quid pro quo!

😀 Food Banks, When I went to the Elk's Club for line dance, I saw that they collected food for the food bank. Each month it was different—-tuna, cereal, peanut butter, soup. They tried to gather the basics that people need.

😀 Food Safety, In the same way that restaurants can't give away food because of food safety concerns (and laws), there came a time when I was teaching that schools began rejecting home made treats for classrooms because there was no way to monitor the safety of home kitchens so parents could bring only purchased food treats.

🌞 Another hot day ahead so I'll get out early for my walk.

    Good morning my friends!

I finished reading Lauren Asher's latest, Love Arranged. Pleasant but not quite as good as her others.

I'm getting more skilled at finding books I enjoy on Amazon with the search engine. Then I read the description and sometimes the comments to check for certain things, like a story based on cheating, which I don't like to read.

My Aunt D across the street is now on a walker due to arthritis. She is 91 and the primary caregiver for my uncle who is 97. So she does his cooking and laundry and such. She has some home help, and two daughters nearby. But I'm worried about them.

Barbie yes reading keeps me occupied. It's time for a new bookcase again!...food safety at school is tricky. I found a crossing guard who was handing out candy despite not knowing allergies.

Carol protein shakes are a good idea. He feeds himself between meals, and his independence is an important factor too. I would have to think about how to get him to pick something new.

Lanette yes Dad still talks about driving. He feels like he ought to share the burden of driving.

Lisa good job on the feather texture! Is there a meaning to the colors?

Allie sorry about your friend. But good to hear you are sleeping better!

    Kylia Yay for free books!

Rori thanks. I had to reschedule my doctor appointment last week because I had no day care for dad...yes, a knee brace might save the trip. Many drugstores have them.

Machka happy anniversary! And Yay for a 25 km bike ride!

Heather Yay for a good walk! And glad your knee bounced back.

Margaret Yay for keeping 30 lbs off! You are a success story!

Rebecca hope you feel better soon!

Barbara so sorry to hear about Tumble's lump. And hope your sciatica is better. Wishing you both gentle hugs of comfort!

Well nothing much on today's agenda. I need to wash my hair but I can't do it while watching Dad. Maybe later tonight.

Have a marvelous day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Barbara - so sorry the sciatica has you bed-bound. Hope it eases up soon. (((HUGS))) Also sorry to hear about Tumble. Did you mean surgery scheduled March 2026? I can see a vet being booked out several weeks but if it's next year, that's wild.

Lisa - thank you for contacting our Rebecca, hope she's on the mend. You did a great job on the feathering technique.

Rebecca - feel better soon! 🤩

Barbie - this heat is beastly. Luckily my house and back yard are pretty shaded by about 6 pm so I can get out and carry water & let the chickens take a quick stroll. I can't believe how quickly the days are getting shorter. It's dusk here at my house by about 8:15.

Kylia - I agree, what a waste to throw perfectly good food away. Our local gospel mission that serves daily lunch to the homeless is able to get day-old pastries donated from Safeway. At least that's something. Good to hear your hot tub is working again.

Rori - hope your knee and wrist are doing better and don't interfere with your upcoming fun trip. How neat to have received some of your dear friend's items.

Heather - last week must have been knee week. Good to hear yours is calming down.

Annie - amazing your aunt and uncle are doing as well as they are considering their age. Which one is related to your dad? Barring misfortune, you and your sis might see 100! 😉

Michele - is Ganon now living at your house permanently? When J & C eventually move, will they take him with them? Seems like he's at your house most of the time.

I heard from my sis yesterday, she had a DEXA scan and is now taking alendronate sodium for osteoporosis. Some of you gals also take it. I know our mom's broken hip concerns her as well, plus she's always been thin all of her life and is small-framed. She lives on a busy country road with no shoulder or sidewalks, so can't really walk. No large department stores like Walmart close by, but they do have a treadmill. She mentioned she needs to get more exercise so I sent her information about SWSY. When DH and I moved onto this private road 18 years ago, I never gave a thought to how important it would be to have a place I could walk without worrying about traffic. Now, I count my lucky stars every day.

Have a great week, ladies! 😍

When I was a substitute teacher here, my school would not allow treats from home either for the reasons stated in the quote. I wanted to make something so got around it by bringing the ingredients in unopened packages and had the kids make them (rice krispy treats). What a mess, but everyone had fun and learned a little about measuring and amounts. It has always irrked me when stores, restaurants, diners, etc throw away perfectly fine food due to the laws. Maybe they should do a free food once a week or something for the homeless. Kinda like a soup kitchen to use up the food that is still good but is to be tossed out. Just my opinion!

Food banks: when I lived in TN there was a little while where we needed to use the food banks. We had a new car but the payments had put us under. We only used the food bank for a little while during the time it took for us to get back on our feet. My point is that sometimes people made mistakes or lost a job, but still have a nice car. We never know the true reason for people doing things. I was terribly embarrassed going to the food bank. I am thankful we never had to do that again!

I know how miserable sciatica is. When I was in my late 20's and had my 3 kids (plus a miscarriage), after my first 2, I would get sciatica every time I got pregnant. This was in the early 80's I would know I was pregnant before the doctor or tests told us. I would lose all use of my right keg, totaly unexpected and without warning. The bigger I got the worse the sciatica. I would have to get out on sick leave by the time I was 6 months pregnant because the job I had involved a lot of walking in dangerous places (glass bottle making company). Scary when my leg gave out. I would reach for something to hang on to, most things I tried to grab on to were extremely hot (over 200-1000 degrees F) to process the glass (sometimes molten). Too dangerous to stay working when pregnant. Never had sciatica again once I no longer got pregnant.

    Thought for today

Did you hear about the guy who found stir fry all over his bed in the morning?

    He’d been sleep wokking!

Lanette … the insurance agent was referring to both the continuing rate increases and the underwriting/carriers leaving NYS as to why the system would eventually crash. It's not sustainable. And we all know that. Question is what's the solution?

Barbara … sciatica pain is awful. Sending healing prayers your way!

Rebecca … if you're reading, I hope you soon feel well!

Beautiful weather near Buffalo this week. Fall clouds rolling through the sky this morning with cooler temperatures. I don't see temps getting above the 70s for another 10 days or so. Perfect.

Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast -

Week ending:    Aug 24  Aug 17

Avg WT             131.6    132.6      surprisingly down a pound

Called the vet teaching hospital in Corvallis.  They'll consult with my vet and schedule soft tissue surgery, hopefully very soon.

That will allow a more detailed biopsy.  One step at a time.

No dancing or chair yoga for me this week. Need to heal enough for the 5 hr drive.

Sue in WA - Too much company and too much eating out this week. Weight went up and has now come back down slightly. Need to keep drinking water and moving more. DS and DGS will be here later today. DS leaves tomorrow so things should get back to normal whatever that is.

Lanette in SW WA State - Weight slowly coming back down toward my range. Average daily steps 7139 – down from last week but fine. Getting in a 15 minute sunrise walk on my private road most days. Still carrying weights for 10-15 minutes 2 or 3 times a day after meals. Still logging each day, SWSY continues to go well 3X per week. Building dumbbell weight back up, very slowly.

    Hey, kids,

Tracey - Sorry about the news for your car. Corey and I have that same discussion when it comes time, as well. I'm glad you have a mechanic you can trust who isn't trying to sell you something. We ended up going into payments for my 2019 Kicks, but paid it off within six months, as I just hate making payments on things, too. Might be a way to think about it. Because we always pay off early, I never have to worry too much about the interest they charge, because we're going to pay very little. Not nothing, but not that much. You still have to make room in your budget for a certain period of time, but it can be reasonably short.

Barbara AHMOD - I realized I hadn't responded re: Tumble. I know you're worried, and hope you can get it resolved a whole lot faster than March!

Allie - Thinking about you, kid, hope you're feeling better today! Sorry about your friend, June.

My day went whee! up the drainspout, so to speak, as the PT people called and asked if I could make it in an hour early. So I scrambled and got in the shower so I could go up there.

While I was gone, Egg did not fold the laundry like I asked, nor did it fold itself, so I will be doing that for a bit, then finally done for the day.

Before I left I got the laundry through the washer and dryer and out ready to fold, finished up the ginky spots in the paint in the back bedroom, and gathered up everything we used to get it finished up, and threw away what was necessary. Also got the new hinges and door knobs on the doors, but didn't hang them, as Corey needs to work on the floor right in that space where they swing back and forth and they'll be in the way.

Came back from PT, trundled back down the driveway and grabbed the wheelie bin and got it back up to the house, as well as dragging out the pancake air compressor and airing up all four of my tires.

The cooling weather brought them all to the point of dropping just below the alert line, so my car was blinking at me all the way into town and back. Interestingly, each tire alerted with a little horn honk as soon as I got it to the right air pressure. Did not know it would do that!

Time to go watch YouTube stuff and fold laundry… then an hour or so to crochet before Corey comes home.

    Later, y'all,
    Love, Lisa
