I've decided not to go to the social in the park. It's one of the rare days I get to myself when John is out at cricket, and I soooo enjoy that. I look forward to my 'funny lunch' and just pottering. I have sent an email excusing myself. Plus the fact that I was awake half the night worrying about G. I have talked to her this morning and did my best to persuade her that she needs help. She is so reluctant to ask. She hopes to talk to her doctor today. She can't wash properly, or change her clothes. The cleaner is coming today, thank goodness. And Waitrose are delivering easy food this afternoon.

I've organised sending her some flowers for tomorrow. They are the kind that go through the letterbox. I picked colours to go with her decor.

I did get my exercises done, once I had decided that sleep was not possible. I've also done my writing. A little light housework is in order, but nothing strenuous. I often descale the kettle when John is out and pour the hot vinegar water on the weeds in the front. Damp dusting downstairs is on the list as the cleaner was too busy preparing my guest room. I have chilli squid for lunch with a brown rice salad. Yum! Tonight we are having chicken, lentil, and spinach curry. Double yum!

Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

    Good Morning!

Tracey- I too am proud of Jonah working for and saving for something he wanted. What a great life lesson. My oldest got tired of her kids always asking for things, so she flipped the chore thing. They get a weekly stipend. This is for lunches, gifts, whatever. The catch is if they don't do their chores, they have to physically pay mom or dad for the job the parents had to do. The grands hated handing over money! They have learned to look ahead at their wants and needs and budget accordingly. The parents still provide necessities and family dinners, trips, but this keeps the more, more, more monsters at bay. I love hearing money lessons being taught. Enjoy your days off!

Mo- I hope you too enjoy your time off. Relaxing sounds perfect.

Anxiety sitting on the edge this morning.…can't explain why, just know ot is there..…lots of deep breathing and hopefully no crying. I've got this!

Much love, healing thoughts, and cheering,

    Good morning ladies -

I watched another interesting ZOE podcast. This one really hit home for me - Alan Aragon (not sure of his credentials but he's been interviewed a lot on various shows over the past year) said that getting adequate (high) protein is important to successfully lose weight. And exercise that builds muscle - some sort of resistance training - is very important as well.

He also said people do best while dieting if they eat in a manner that's sustainable after they lose weight so extreme Keto, for example, is hard to maintain after weight is lost so the weight comes right back on for most folks.

He's also an advocate of loosening up restrictions a bit - calls it "YOLO" - You Only Live Once. What he means by that is if we are totally cutting out foods we love, we tend to over-indulge when we finally are allowed to eat them again, so by thoughtfully working them into our diets while in weight loss mode, they lose their power. So have that piece of chocolate. (I'm working on that one, lol.)

He's not a fan of the bathroom scale, but feels how clothes fit is a better indicator of success since a person can lose fat and gain muscle.

This podcast is probably preaching to the choir for most of us, but I found it motivational. And has me thinking about why programs like WW weren't sustainable for many of us over the years - probably not enough protein and little emphasis on muscle building plus had our self-worth tied to the scale. Insane in my opinion, but the research on protein and muscle is fairly recent and I suspect WW has changed a lot as well.

It's an hour long. Here's the link if interested.

    Good morning my friends!

I missed a few days because I got lost in my books. It's like a mini vacation! Except there's still a minimum of dishes and laundry to get done. My favorite authors these days are Catherine Cowles and Devney Perry for romantic suspense. Not too intense nor too bland. I had two bad books lately, one where the female lead was a lying scheming klutz of an idiot. It was supposed to be funny, but not for me. The second bad book had teeny tiny print. A miserable read.

Meanwhile we still don't have the MRI results for my Dad. I'm annoyed but on the other hand, his stroke risk is high no matter what the test says. I just have to live with that. And a stroke in some ways might be better than a prolonged descent into worse dementia, which would lead to a home. He is 91 and used to be a physics professor. Now he can't hold a conversation beyond greetings. He does a lot of sitting and staring. He gets sad but not angry yet.

Lisa wow 109 degrees! But yes the fall season for outdoor work is coming. Time for plans and supplies.

Barbie you are so good at resisting food!

Lanette too bad about the Facebook sweater. Hope you feel better! Yay for good sleep!

Allie hugs! You deserve better than bratty badmouthing.

    Machka Yay for swimming!

Heather Yay for the driveway! Yay for walking around your shops!

Rebecca so sad about Tucker. He was beloved.

Pip congratulations on the new car!

Mo tuition is huge! Yay for Auntie Linette helping!

Kylia you have had one sick day after another and you keep on chugging! Hope you feel better soon.

Ginny good to have an answer for your back pain. Good luck with the surgery.

    Tracey Yay for Jonah!

Well, nothing special on the agenda today. Maybe washing delicates and sheets. And a few phone calls.

May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Lanette, thanks for the podcast link. I’m going to add it to my list to listen to in the car. I am so over diet culture.

interesting about the difficulty in finding a red car. DH and I are both more gray car people, yet we are both driving red because it was the only color on the lot in the model that we wanted, so we got them. His is a red Tacoma and mine is a CRV. They are both beautiful and have grown on us, but were not our first choice of color. Neither of us were willing to pay more to get something special ordered.

The scammers are really getting smart. I never trust an email anymore. We get tons from “Social Security”, our internet provider, and banks - most of whom we don’t even have accounts with. Not to mention the packages that can’t be delivered and the purchases of hundreds of dollars we didn’t make. I don’t respond to any of them anymore. A friend of my daughter’s got one like Carol’s. It was her daughter’s voice, screaming and crying and asking for help. Luckily they checked on her and she was fine. They got as much information as they could from the scammer and reported it, but it probably did not good. Carol, this was in Paulding Co.

😀 Red car I finally got the red car I wanted two years ago when we bought the Tesla. it was a prevously owned car and Jake searched for a long time online to find the model he wanted in the color I wanted at a price we could handle. I would have been happier continuing to drive the car we already had, but having an electric car was an exciting prospect. I felt fabulous driving my sleek red car and enjoyed every minute of it until I realized that getting the car serviced required a two hour drive and Jake's health was taking a turn for the worse and I'd never be able to handle a drive to get it serviced. It was a happy day for me when he said he thought we should trade the Tesla in for something more conventional. It was possibly the fastest decision we every made. I was so grateful to not have to worry about how to get our car serviced that it didn't bother me what color the new car was. I was reminded of the old saying "Be careful what you wish for".

😀 I am fortunate that I found an eating plan I can live with. The longer I eat this way and the more I learn about healthy eating the more I am able to stay with my plan. it's even easier now that I'm cooking only for myself.

😀 Tracey, bravo to your grandson. He is learning outstanding life skills.

    Morning, my chicks,

Am finding if I bail into my writing early, usually from an idea I had as I was going to sleep, that it flows instead of jumping out in dribs and drabs. Sometimes a little too much - lots of editing to cut out the unnecessary bits. But nonetheless, it feels like a rhythm I can get into pretty easily.

Actually did my yoga yesterday! Not as long or as well as I was doing it a year ago, but all that will come back with time and repetition. I let that wrecked rotator cuff, combined with the vertigo, slow me down, and then when my thyroid began going south, I just stopped cold. Understandable, but still frustrating. So now, just adding one thing back in at a time.

Physical therapy later today. Last time was the first time the therapist pushed me hard enough to make me sweat. Afterward, I need to stop at the grocery store and then at Walmart to return a couple things and pick up a few. Not much, but it will be at 3:30 and that's when all the people with school kids are there. Ick.

Add me to the list of people who are over diet culture. If you look at it, it's completely tied to trying to look young and fertile, and honestly, don't want to be either. I keep reminding myself this is "My Fitness Pal" not "My Food Prosecutor." Just saying.

    Later, my dears,

Just a quick hello, before I start my stretch tonight.

Kylia, I genuinely believe that your headaches are related to stress. You are working non-stop. Can someone take over while you take a mini vacation or staycation? I keep a migraine bag to help me when I am not at home. I will take a pic of it later.

Lisa, let them know how you feel after your workout. Are they sure you do not have an ear infection? Try to take care.

    Everyone, have a wonderful weekend.

    XO,

    Mo in Mississippi

Pip … you've probably noticed by now …. missed toes on the 4th pair of prints from the bottom. I think it looks great so far.

Went to the dentist this morning to repair a large chip in a tooth near the front. Novocaine in the front means a numb nose. Anyways, it looks pretty good … and it better … it was pricey. Barbara … the dentist afterwards said something to the effect of "now that wasn't too bad" to which I replied, "you didn't hear my silent screaming."

Migraines … you might all remember that my son has dealt with chronic migraines since he was a teenager. Missed most of his high school years. Went through every treatment/medication known (including the Botox injections). Anyways, since he has started his quest to become fit and is only eating lean protein, vegetables and very few complex carbs, his mental health has improved and … knock on wood … the migraines have lessened dramatically. Multiple reasons for that including improved self-esteem, better sleep, consistent exercise, etc … but the clean eating is a big part.

Barbie I am on your page on eating foods eating foods that make me feel good and skipping those that do not…

Allie A woman in a group I meet with has a daughter like Tracy. Her daughter is married to someone like Kyle. It is all about control and they want that person all to themselves. Unfortunately they can be abusive. So try to remember it is Kyle getting her to to spew that poison. Hopefully she and the daughter of the woman in the group I am involved stand up for themselves soon then later but they need to get the right help. There are groups that help woman leave abusive relationships. Just remind Tracy that you love her and know she is having a hard time. It does not mean that you can be her punching bag. It is okay to tell her that. Tracy needs to find healthier ways to handle her problems. When she is tired of living a life of walking on egg shells she will be ready to seek out the help she needs. You are not in a position to be that person.

Heather - I too am enjoying a rare morning at home alone and enjoying it. I rarely get the house to myself these days.
I should go on a cleaning binge, but I’m not going to. I’m just enjoying the quiet.

Kylia - I am happy we are all working together to teach Jonah about money. I was not taught well at all. My Dad never had it and my grandparents would just hand me money. I have struggled all my life with money issues.
I have to say though that I have gotten better. As long as Rodger works this winter I think we’ll be ok.
    I hope your anxiety abated.

Annie - I agree with you a stroke would probably be better than the Alzheimer’s. My doctor told me that about cancer with my mom. I was questioning why they wouldn’t do a mammogram, she asked me what we would do about it if she did have anything as the treatment would be so upsetting to her. At that time my brother and I decided that we wouldn’t have any tests done on mom for bigger issues, we wouldn’t just make her comfortable. She has been in a nursing home for eight years in December. While I know she is treated well, taken care of and seems happy, but it’s not a quality life for sure. She is 79 and could live many more years.
Your father is blessed that you are there to help him and keep him at home.

Pip - happy to see you reached your goal.

Lisa - I need to get back into doing something too for exercise. I’ve gotten too complacent.

I had the day off and ended up having a pretty good day. I went to Walmart to pick up a few things and scan some photos in to finish my album.
I’m then went to the scrapbook store and out for lunch with a friend. I picked up Michaela this afternoon and we stopped going at a photo lab and dropped off some films that we found in my Mom’s house 10 years ago! They look like film from the 70’-80’s! I couldn’t drop all of them off. They are 126 and that place can no longer do them. I need to find another one. I did find one online. I’ll contact them.
I dropped 4 off, will see in a couple of weeks what might be on them.

Now we are heading to ceramics. I’ll check in later.
