@pridesabtch - Hoping that they choose to admit her to Long term care for her safety and your mental health.

    Just a quick update

No real changes either way for my dog since yesterday, not any worse but not much better. He had moments where he seemed slightly perkier in the afternoon evening but he definitely still doesn't feel good. He mostly slept all day .I took him for a couple of slow short walks . He did have a good appetite . I cooked him chicken and rice and he got several small meals of that throughout the day. I am not really feeling positive about things. I am anxious for this holiday to be over so I can be back in touch with my vet. I think we need an ultrasound and further diagnostics .

Lots going on for me and my JFTers, now that I've caught up. @pridesabtch So sorry about your mom. Hope you can get help for her in a facility long term. At this point, her understanding and cooperation are probably becoming secondary. @HappyDonkey75 & @pridesabtch Having elderly furbabies is hard. Our doggo is 13yo although people seeing me walk her have no idea, she still has happy feet and gets crazy excited whenever I get ready to walk her. Our Kitty is estimated at 15yo. Both are doing relatively well for their age. I wish you both the best with yours.

Last week I didn't log much. Had lunch w/ old friend who recently moved back to the area, and our visit stretched into most of the afternoon as I toured her apartment and we caught up our news. Then spent several days at Mom & Dad's with lots of chatting & watching Brewers games (Dad is die-hard MLB fan). Had to rescue Mom from the pushy vacuum salesmen that showed up at the door; really, Mom is too nice for her own good sometimes! Got to see eldest brother & fixed plans for this weekend. Pets (& hubby) were happy when I returned home. Quiet weekend so far, fine with us.

Tonight, sister & eldest brother pick me up (they drive 90 min. to our house) at 1 a.m. then we continue on to St. Ignace, Michigan (in the Upper Peninsula or UP). Labor Day (U.S.) holiday is traditionally the day of the Mackinac Bridge Walk, when all 4 lanes are closed 6:30 a.m. to noon. Total distance for double-crossers (over & back) is about 9 miles, which we became last year, our first time, along with youngest brother & his wife. They aren't going this year, but sister & eldest bro wanted to again, and I'm happy to join in. Sister's & my hubbies stay at home with the pets LOL. It will be a long night & day: drive is 4+ hours from our house (in the dark, must watch for deer) & lose an hour changing time zones. Then the double-crosser walk & drive back. But totally worth it. Weather looks to be ideal, sunny & around 70F with very light winds (it's a very high bridge, with regular wind warnings). I was surprisingly ok with the height last year, but tried not to focus on that too much. Even felt the bridge swaying at particular points, kind of weird.

JFT 8/31 Sunday ~ Beautiful late summer weather. I love it!

The long and short of it is that mom threatened to burn her neighbors house down. She imagines that there is a small child there that is being beaten. My aunt witnessed her rage and threat and called 911. Ended up taking her to the ER. She had a UTI, and they almost discharged her because the doctor that initially evaluated her did not mention the violent behavior to the next doc on shift. He thought she just had a UTI. Eventually, I got them to admit her for observation. She is not a happy camper and is no longer speaking to me, only glaring and making snide remarks to her sitter. Now that the UTI is clearing they are beginning to evaluate her behavior. The Psych Dr. tried to call me Sunday, but I missed the call. I called back, but we have not connected yet.

I did rest yesterday, my aunt and I decided if she was going to treat us poorly, there was really no reason to visit. That and she wouldn't remember if we did visit. The only thing she seems to remember is her dog and that it's my fault she is there. I took the day off yesterday. I am mentally exhausted, but am trying to get on track.

@cschmitz110515- thank you. The elder pets are the best if you ask me. I hope your continue to do well for a long time.

Unfortunately our younger of the two elder dogs ,the one that has had no issues , had to be put to rest yesterday. I debated sharing but I need support to get through this. I am devastated . Its so damn hard and I am so lost. He was my constant companion.

On friday we went to our vet and he was found the have enlarged lymph nodes all over his body. His pancreas enzyme levels were high. all other labs were normal. So vet sent me home with a a diagnosis of pancreatitis and meds for that treatment. By Saturday he was much worse and so I had to take him into the emergency vet clinic. They did further diagnostics and another blood test. Pancreatic enzymes were worse yet and now his temperature was also very high. ultrasound and xrays revealed the worst news Pretty much cancer in all the major organs, pancreas was the worst of it. Vet said he was in alot of pain and there was nothing that could be done. I wanted more time to say goodbye and the vet thought we could manage his pain for a few days with morphine and steroids so that we could have a bit more time . I thought I'd have another week maybe. We spent all day Sunday with him but he was getting so painful in spite of some pretty heavy meds. We made arrangements for the home euthanasia vet to come to the house yesterday and said our final goodbyes and sent him over rainbow bridge. I know it was the humane and right thing to do as he was suffering but its so painful to have lost him. It all happened so quickly and unexpected. I never thought my 15.5 yr old German sherpherd would outlive him, he was 13.

My hubby and I are both taking the day off from work. We are going to take our remaining old lady dog (who was the one we have been managing health issues on) for a drive today and just spend the day together. I really can't even talk about it without tears and being very emotional . I have had many dogs in my life and its always hard but this one is hitting way harder than any before.

Thanks for listeing JFT'ers. It helps to process it all by getting the words out .

I'm so sorry. They are our children. We know we will most likely outlive them, but it always leaves a hole. Hugs to you. I cry even when it isn't my fur baby because I know that pain.

Thanks to all of you for sharing about your elderly pets and parents. I totally empathize and have had similar problems. (My old lady dog is showing signs of declining and sleeping so deeply it’s hard to wake her up. My FIL is a real pain sometimes at his home and we get calls all the time. So sad and frustrating. Last month he was making so much trouble that he was making the other patients rowdy too.) Hang in there!

@HappyDonkey75 My deepest sympathy on the loss of your furbaby. It's never easy, but easing his pain is the right thing to do. May he run free over the rainbow bridge until you see him again!

@pridesabtch So sorry about your mom. Hugs to you.

@more_freggies76 You hang in there too. Hope you are enjoying your trip/vacation.

Had a good day walking the Mighty Mac (bridge) with eldest brother & sister yesterday. We were all operating on little sleep since we drove through the night in very isolated ( & dark) area to reach our destination. We arrived just before sunrise and saw the bridge lit up, which we had not seen before. Crowd was estimated at 33,000 (walking from both the south and north ends, some turning around midway, others double-crossing, including us). Day was sunny and warm (almost too warm), breeze barely there. We finished in 3 hours, according to my app 8.87 miles. I didn't take photos this year, sister did which she shared, and saw a bunch posted on MightyMac.org - The Mackinac Bridge & Straits of Mackinac fb page. Then stopped for lunch of delicious fresh whitefish & the return back home of 4 hours. Sister & brother had another 90 min. drive, while I showered then napped before a very early bedtime.

Weighed in today for the first time in a while. I was doing so well a few months ago and now I've gained all of the weight back again. Granted it is only 7 pounds, but I feel a bit defeated. Stress eating is no joke!

I have a group of people coming to the house today to deep clean it. I'm excited, but Tim is a little put off. This first cleaning is rather expensive because they are deep cleaning, but after that is should be routine. I've never had anyone clean my house for me. It's a little nerve racking. I'm only having them do the main living areas. I will do the bedrooms, the master bath & laundry room.

I'm supposed to have CPR recertification this evening, but there is prework that needs to be completed and my YMCA boss hasn't sent it yet. I'm not sure I should bother going if I don't have that completed.

@pridesabtch I cried when I read your last post yesterday. Hugs to you! Keeping all in my thoughts & prayers for a smooth transition for your mom. On another note, I had my previous house deep cleaned once, right before it went up for sale and 3 months before our wedding. Fiance & I were also house hunting at the time, so we were both going to move, into a house with a room for his mother too. A little stress there. But it was so easy to keep my house sale-ready from then on. Some of the best money I spent in the whole "get the house prepped for sale".

Recap 9/2 T ~ Another beautiful late summer day. 🌞 I love it!

    • Walked dog 3.39 mi, doggo got water & treat at RJ's 😁/ OT exercises 😀

    • Weekly garbage chores / empty compost bucket into bin / Swanson's order / call Mom ❤️ / read / digital declutter / other? 😀 ta-da!

JFT 9/3 W ~ Thunderstorms early this morning bringing a definite change in the weather. Temps will fall throughout the day and stay cooler than normal (like mid-Oct!) until Sat. I'm actually enjoying this (knowing that we still have warm days ahead helps).

Just got caught up, and I must admit I'm typing this with tears in my eyes.

@HappyDonkey75 I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your buddy. I know when it comes time to say goodbye to my sweet Maddie, I will be devastated. I cry every time I even think about it. I've said goodbye to many loved dogs in my life, but she is the first one I've spent this much time with because I am retired this time and I just adore her. Hugs & prayers for comfort and peace to you, friend.

@pridesabtch Your post touched my heart. We moved my mom about a mile from us after my stepdad died, She lived in a different state with no family there. Her and I have a very difficult history and your relationship with your mom many times sounds similar, but she is my mom and I love her. When or if she can no longer live in her house, I don't even know how I would approach it. Your conversation sounds like it was heartbreaking on many levels and I am sending you so many hugs and prayers from here in Wisconsin. I hope she still understands as you talk to her again today.

@more_freggies76 Hugs to you also. I am hoping you are enjoying your vacation. Are you hiking again?

@cschmitz110515 I was really happy to hear the thunder this morning! I slept until 7 and laid in bed with my eyes closed and listened to the storm roll through. This cooler weather is very welcome by me! Good for you for doing the walk again this year! I'll bet it is quite the experience!

    JFT:

    1. 24 hour plan & assess ✔️
    2. 64 oz water before 7pm
    3. close activity rings
    4. 5 things declutter
    5. Buy a Powerball ticket and win $1.3 Billion dollars so I can begin shopping for an oceanside condo tomorrow to winter in.
    6. Journal. Read from my Bible. No BS coaching call. Admin stuff.
    7. start bedtime routine 1 hour before bedtime
    8. Finish June BOM and pick out fabric for July's block.

    Progress, not perfection!

Also need to call the short term home mom will be place in and see what she needs to get such as furniture and bedding. She has tons of furniture, but not a twin sized bed or a smaller dresser. Not sure if she needs to bring furniture to the temporary nursing home, but she will definitely need that for the long term home she will be in.

Also need to get a fitting for a dress today so I can get it hemmed for a wedding next month.

Sierra is coming in today to see mom. She is such a sweet kid.

@more_freggies76 Enjoy your hikes! I wish my hubby could cook, let alone bake. I even do the grilling lol. Although hubby sometimes helps in the kitchen with my directions. His mother was much older (44yo when he was born) & from the rural south, and she did not believe in teaching her sons to cook. When we were first married & he told her he helped me in the kitchen when I got home from a long day in the office, she thought it was a joke.

@more_freggies76 - it seems like your getting your steps in with all the hiking so that is great. Hope you are having a wonderful vacation.

@PackerFanInGB -Its the hardest thing I have had to do in a long time.

@ cschmitz110515- Your a grill master too!? My hubby does the grilling but if it requires baking or cooking to follow a recipe, thats on me. I am glad your weather is cooling down. I love the cool wet weather. Remember the SNL skit sweater weather? I love sweater weather.

JFT- We picked up my pups ashes today. So hard . I wanted some time alone to sit with the urn but the afternoon /evening got a little hectic. I had planned to stay home this weekend and finish my packing for my upcoming trip while the hubby went to the horse competition, but he does not think I should be alone and is insisting I come with . He's probably right. I would ruminate and probably be very sad and wallow in my own sadness. That isn't good. So, we had to get a bunch of things loaded and ready to go. Tomorrow we leave after work. Haul for two hours, get everyone settled in , get our trailer set up and hopefully have a little bit of time to relax. I had a pendant made with some of his ashes so I taking that with. He was always the best horse show dog. Easy to have around and everyone loved him. I am not sure how well I will handle people asking about him as many of the competitors are people who knew him for years.

I am looking into finding a pet grief counselor because coping is not going well.
