Tracey - Your husband's worry is not your concern. As long as you are confident you will enjoy it and be safe, then do it. Who knows, he may decide to tag along. 😊 John was adamant he never wanted to go on a cruise. No did he ever want to go to a cold place. I made enquiries, in his presence, and put a hold on a single cabin to go up to Longyearbyen (where Penny lives). When I put the phone down he said, "Weeelll ..... I suppose I could go with you." The rest is history. Personally, I think you would enjoy it much more without him. 🤣
John is off to cricket today. He did not sleep at all last night. 😥 His cricket friend is coming down for some of the game, and John has been looking forward to it for months. Just last week, the friend, who is John's only living close friend, told him that he was bringing his brother with him. Two's company, three's a crowd, IMHO. Added to that, John doesn't really like this brother, who has no conversation and is very gloomy. He is obviously on the spectrum. This changes the whole dynamic. John was awake all night with 'anxiety'. 🤨 Luckily, I understand, having been awake all night with my heart racing, before the triathlon. And many other times. Sometimes unexpressed anger disguises itself as anxiety.

@auntiebk … our loyalty cards don't tend to offer significant discounts.
I have a couple for fuel. One offers 4 cents off, the other offers 6 cents off.
Fortunately, neither required me to put in a lot of details about myself and they don't bombard me with emails.
I've noticed that other shops will offer between about 10% and 20% off full price if you join the loyalty program. But if you don't join the program and just wait, the prices on many things will drop down to about 30-50% in a month or so.
The only benefit is that with the loyalty program, if you see something you really want, you might be able to get it, with a small discount, as soon as it arrives. If you wait, it might sell out. I never/rarely need anything that urgently.

First day back at school for all three. I much prefer Bea's outfit! 😂
Apparently, the first couple of days at her new school went very well for Edie. They had a very busy weekend with lots of cycling activities, and my ex's wife and their elder daughter down from Scotland to visit. I think, but don't know yet, that they went to the women's World Cup rugby match at the Brighton stadium. England beat Australia.
Can't wait to pick up Bea tomorrow! 😃

I'm usually quite relieved when there's a 3rd or 4th or 5th person along.
It means I won't need to talk much … and I can wander off and do my own thing without anyone noticing. 😃
If it is just me and the other person, I'll likely need to talk … and a whole day of that is agonising!

Control....vacation is handing that control over to someone else. This causes me anxiety. Maybe I would feel different if I felt confident in my sister in law's knowledge and interest in the business. It may take a couple of days for this anxious feeling to go away.
My DH really was on his best behavior this weekend especially yesterday. I had to get some things done before we left. This meant we left later than we wanted, but still arrived during daylight hours. Vehicles loaded, parked, unloaded, and only twice were there perturbed words. That was awesome. Dinner was second order of business as I was getting foggy brain and hangry. After that, put stuffs away, stretched, and bed.
Pip- Congratulations! You show so much dedication! Wow! I love the butterflies too.
Tracey - I would like to drive cross country on backroads with small towns visiting folks I know on the way. I would love to do this with my brother. I would leave his wife with my DH and they could fly out to meet us a few places. Though DH might be fine riding if my brother was along....he does like small towns and little shops. Love the sunflower pics!
All the kids are growing up so fast! I have two graduating high school (12th yr) this year. One of those two will also graduate with his two year degree from college. They were just Littles!:(
Hot tub feels great after 5.5 hours of hauling a trailer. I need to get more comfortable driving it so that we can stop and move more often. My left hip isn't happy- funny since that leg does nothing while driving.
A little cloudy this morning.
Time to stretch. I do have some work to do- just a little. Then we will see what the day brings.
I won't be checking in. While it seems like we bring everything from our house when we come down, the scale is not one of those items!
Oh, The heart doctor said we were the healthiest heart patients he has had in a while. Just keep monitoring. We could both lose about 15-20 #. That would help since both of us it is in our bellies. Otherwise good. DH does have to monitor BP. It was a little high. Not majorly concerned, just monitoring.
Healing thoughts to each of you and your loved ones.
Congratulations on your accomplishments whether they be grand like Pip and Machka or 5 steps more than yesterday for you. Each accomplishment is worthy of 🎊! Remember...somedays my done list is I got out of bed and had coffee!
Love to all,
Kylia in the mountains her second home!

Tracey ~ Love the photos of you, the grands, and the sun flowers! Jonah is looking very grown-up and M is lovely.
Heather ~ First day of new school year photos! I always love getting those for my two grands. Max is getting so tall, Edie looks very mature for her age, and Bea is her usual charming self.
Kylia ~ How much I would love to be on that deck overlooking the mountains. Glad you are getting good news about your heart.
Pip ~ As usual your patio looks lovely with the waterfall, greenery, and the new butterflies.
Barbie ~ You were very insightful contributing my Kroger experience with worry and anxiety. Thank you for your kind words.
My husband is having an endoscope procedure this AM and I know he is worried. Please keep him and me in your prayers.

OMgosh... Barbara, thank you! I don't think anyone has ever actually thanked me for the work I do garnering reimbursements. Helping students, sure, but not for billing. I feel like it's important too so thanks so much for recognizing that. I truly appreciate it.
Awesome pix Tracey! I just love sunflower photos. My opinion, not that you need it. JUST DO IT!
Love and Blessings

Kylia - Your photo made me relax just looking at it!
Tracey - Like Heather, I think it's a good thing that Joe understood that you are capable of driving cross-country without him. It's a good time to have said it, too, with you flying off to see your friend for a while soon. Let him think about that for a little bit. Him saying "No, I don't want to go," shouldn't mean that you don't go. I'm glad you said it out loud. Sometimes it takes that for them to wake up. Love, love, LOVE the pics in the sunflower field! Beats Texas bluebonnet pictures all to heck.
Heather - All the kids look absolutely wonderful.
Barbara AHMOD - I have finally quit wearing a bra at home. I developed a bit of a heat rash where the band rested and had to go without a couple days, and haven't gone back.
About wearing bras:
Can't QUITE bring myself to go to town without one on, and I will say it felt exceedingly weird the first time I walked out in my yard in a shirt without a bra. Here we are a few weeks later, though, and I just don't even care. Eventually I'll end up in town with no more than a camisole.
Corey's comment was "I never understood why you wore one at all," so there's that. I feel as if it's the final linchpin pulled out of the Illusion I constructed of a working woman. And no, Barbara, I wouldn't wear a tank top into town either. We've been too brainwashed that our arms are ugly to do that.
When I lost the major weight after the surgery that was 20 years ago this month, I went from a 42 DD to a 34 Long, pretty much, so I've worn a sports bra ever since they got smaller. Just to keep them from sagging down to my waist.
Bras were created to make us look young and fertile for as long as possible—we were TAUGHT by wearing them from a young age that they were comfortable. I'm not young and definitely not fertile, and they are not comfortable and never were. We think they are because we're taught so early to wear them, not because they actually are.
They are just socially acceptable.
I literally have grooves in the muscles and bone running across the top of my shoulders where they rested all those years. I modified my body just as much as those Chinese women who had their feet bound so they would have tiny feet. It was time to stop.
Sorry - Kinda got up on my high horse there.
Stepping down off there and back into my life - more adventures in home improvement:
Got 2/3 of the carpet placed, cut as necessary and stuck down in the spare bedroom while Corey was getting all the cardboard burned and the longer bits of the grass in the yard knocked down yesterday. We decided to get vinyl plank in for the tile in the hallway, and that will be here Thursday or Friday. By then I should have the room complete.
The hallway, which accesses both back bedrooms and the main hallway, runs from the back door to the small bathroom, which means the chance of it getting wet is reasonably good at either end, so it made more sense to make it water resistant rather than tile. Plus the only place we really prefer carpet is in the bedrooms. That's just personal preference on our parts.
I have nowhere I have to be this week at all. Woot! But I do want to see how yoga is going to go, and see if I can get these too-stretched muscles to start tightening back up again and go the way I want them to. That knee has buckled a few times now unexpectedly, time to get to work and get it rehabbed. Again. Still.
Later, my babies,
Love,

We had a short cool snap last week. The down side is I learned something is wrong in the heating system at my home. I already put a call in to the company I have worked with for years…Upside is it was found before the real cold hits. At son's house I am going to have to get a soffit fixed again because of a raccoonI
A friend said you are having a lot of home repairs lately. Yes in some ways true, but I know this is part of owning a home. She has a husband who takes care of these sorts of things. When DH was living we did many of these things together which had served me now that he is gone. It does give me confidence because I do know how to go about getting things like this fixed. It does get expensive but it is what it is.
The friends I have whose DH have past and did not get involved in maintenance are moving into Townhomes. When we first married we lived in a townhome. I prefer to live in my own home over a townhome. I get to decide when maintenance gets done. You can get socked with an assessment when you least expect it even if you are paying hefty dues monthly. Because everything is hired out just routine maintenance is expensive and there is not enough put aside for the big things like roofs and windows. There are also more rules in townhome living. Plus if walls are thin you hear your neighbor!
I do understand why friends often choose to live this way but it is not always cheaper.

Kylia - What a truly gorgeous place you go to for your vacation. 😃
I've been enjoying my FREE time! I didn't get washed or dressed until after lunch. Go me! I did my exercises, my writing, prepped lunch, tidied up in case the men popped in, chatted to G, loads of Duolingo Spanish, ... and had a shower after lunch. I'm all lotioned and perfumed, with slightly damp hair. I will probably put some face on after my nap, in case the men decide they want to use the lavatory before their drive home. They are parked on our drive. John's friend usually wants to get off promptly, and doesn't stop by for a cup of tea. But you never know.
I'm cooking mushroom omelette for dinner, with asparagus.
I made myself heavenly tarka dhal for lunch, with a small jacket potato. Lassi to drink, from my homemade yoghurt.

Regarding bras … I have hardly ever worn one while I'm at home. Never saw the point. And from time to time, I do go shopping or whatever on a weekend without one. After swimming, if we stop somewhere for dinner, I never have a bra on because it's too hard to put one on when I'm damp from swimming.
I don't wear those ones with the clips in the back or front, although I think I do have one or two of that style in a drawer, and definitely nothing with wires!! I wear very stretchy pullover sports bras to work … and that would be why I don't put one back on after swimming. Have you every tried to put a sports bra on while you're damp from sweat or swimming?
Regarding tank tops and other sleeveless tops … I love them! Sleeveless is my favourite sleeve length. As soon as the outside temperature hits about 15C, I'll consider wearing sleeveless tops. By the time the temperature hits about 20C, I'm definitely in sleeveless tops.
Right now, the weather is frustrating because it's almost warm enough to go sleeveless, and I was wearing sleeveless tops the week before last, but the wind is strong and cold, so I have to bring a light jacket.
So when I go out in public without a bra, I'll usual do a double tank top or a tank with a sleeveless vest or similar. If it's cold, I might have a long-sleeve over a tank. I have a lot of tank tops. Love them!!
I've never thought of my arms as ugly. Who knows, maybe they are. But I started body building when I was in my early 20s, so mine were always quite muscular.

Machka - You are an athlete, and your arms are probably reasonably toned, if not superbly toned. I lost 160 pounds, and gained, in return, what one could basically call friendly arms… they keep waving long after I stop! 😅
Possibly one more American failing - but arms with "excess" flab are seen as either being lazy and unathletic or being fat… and unathletic. It's seen as a personal failing here, and we really need to get over it. In reality, it is usually very much to do with genetics, and cannot be completely corrected without surgery. As an ex-gym manager, I know this at one level. And I still don't wear sleeveless shirts in town. Can't do it. My few remaining scraps of vanity won't let me do it.

Carol … keeping you and your husband in my prayers …
Loyalty cards … while you may get a discount with loyalty cards, their real purpose is to track your spending habits. Even using a credit card allows a retailer to see what your preferences are. I generally don't care if you know that I like Cascade and not Finish …🙄
Rebecca, Tracey and Heather … love the photos of your grands!
Barbara … thanks for the recipe link. The problem I'm having with the chicken is the size of the things! Even your recipe recommends smaller chicken breasts. I agree! Where to find them at a reasonable price is the issue. The two packages I recently bought were especially large and lousy (even though they were the ones with the smaller weights). Yuck.
Mattress… my husband has decided that the new soft mattress is a disaster. We've only had it 2 months and the troughs are getting deeper with a mound being created in the middle of the bed. I make the bed and you can see significant changes in the mattress. We called the store and they're sending out someone in a couple of weeks to measure the troughs and see if it is deemed "mattress failure." I'm not feeling confident that they are going to think there's enough of a problem. My husband plans to take the lead on this and he's pretty much been on the warpath lately about many things … so pity the person they send!
Busy week ahead. How is it that I'm busier when school starts and I don't have kids/grandkids in school?

Right now my arms aren't particularly toned, but this conversation reminded me to do 20 bicep curls ... first bit of exercise I have had in a week, besides coughing!
Perhaps because most of Australia gets quite hot for a large portion of the year, it's not unusual to see Australians in tank tops, shorts and either bare feet or flip flops ... no matter what size, shape or age they are (after work at the beach or picking up takeaway etc., not during work).

Hello my friends! Sorry to be absent. Nothing is really wrong, I just got frustrated and buried myself in my books again.
Even though Dad's trip to the ER three weeks ago was classified as a non-event ( no sign of a stroke on the MRI), it generated a flurry of errands. His class wanted a doctor's note before letting him return, but the doctors office was trying to communicate online through a portal that we can't access. So he hasn't been to class, and I had to reschedule my dentist and dermatologist visits. Then I finally took him along to the dermatologist, and that was risky but it worked out. Then there were three sets of prescriptions to arrange. I still need to call a doctor for one that got messed up. So just endless chores lately, and no break from caregiver duty. I have to get up early early if I want a shower before he gets up. Then he is up late because he takes naps.
We were late for church yesterday because Dad had trouble getting ready. He usually does okay getting dressed but he was looking for his hearing aids in the wrong room. I need to make a sign or two, because I hate to interrupt him before he is dressed.
Anyway, we are managing. Today I need to wash his bedding, call the landscaper about yardwork, call about that prescription, and pay some paper bills. And take Dad to sing along and pick him up.
Have a marvelous day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Strangely, I don't hate my arms as much as I used to. One wonderful thing about Saga cruises, is that almost everyone is old. And some are really old. We used to be almost the youngest when we started. So, you will have a lot of shapes and sizes, and almost no one of enviable shape. So my arms will be quite presentable in comparison. I used to be very self conscious about them. I do have a good selection of shrugs, a beaded cardigan, and a sparkly cape, to wear for my entrance to the captain's reception , (the poor man has to shake hands with all of us, our hands still damp from the sanitiser at the door).!!!! After that, I'm sure no one will be laughing at my arms! It's very relaxing being surrounded by old people. Oh, wait a minute .... that's me! 🤣
I haven't worn a bra for nearly 20 years. Nowdays one is considerably larger and lower than the other, because of the cancer surgery. If I'm going 'out, out', I do sometimes wear a special camisole that is stretchy, and holds them up in the same place. That works. Otherwise, it's just a normal camisole to smooth them out a bit. I find navy, or black t shirts, a good camouflage. I do have some supposedly 'comfortable' bras, but they aren't. I have a big shelf of stomach under my bust, so everything is tight and rolls up. Once again, I'm not on the red carpet, there are no paparazzi, and no-one is going to notice my tilted shelf.😀

My morning routine has been disrupted lately by DH getting up earlier than usual and my training Lucy to go out to do her business instead of using the puppy pads. It seems I run out of morning quiet quickly! Anyway, no more pay booth! Only working visitor center 3 days a week for 3 hours. That is a relief! We also have a new host to help out. Troubles with my son once again, oldest daughter still reliable and middle DD still stubbornly not talking to any family. No changes here really. Still my crazy life. I am getting a walk in each morning with Lucy and sometimes 2 or 3 more a day, trying to meditate for at least 5 minutes a day, and reading here and 4 daily readers that I am going through daily. So basically, same old stuff different day for me. Kinda of a good thing. No major medical issues or problems for my DH or myself. Always a good thing.
Thought for Today:
I’m terrified of elevators, so I’m taking steps to avoid them.

Barbara, I figured out that was you. Great FB sleuthing!
Bras - I rarely go without. I’m uncomfortable without one. I do take it off to sleep, but otherwise it’s on. When you wear a G or H cup, it’s kind of necessary, especially in public.4 -
Beth- sorry to hear about the mattress failure - yes, the mattress is too new to have troughs like that. For smaller chicken breasts, I sometimes buy "free range" and/or organic. They cost 2 to 3 times as much as the store brand. 😣 I usually buy chicken thighs because the meat stays moist without having to prep it much.
Speaking of breasts, I'm like Kay. I'm really not that well endowed but don't like the girls gettin' in the way/jiggling when I'm exercising and heading south toward my waistline. Plus it kind of throws my posture off. My bra comes off at night and I just put up with the grooves in my shoulders.
Barbara - 2025 has certainly been the summer of $$ for your household. 😯 Hope that light is an easy, inexpensive fix. Glad to hear the cistern has recovered. Woo-hoo!! Closing Hwy 101? Well, I guess this is the best time of year to keep up with road maintenance/bridge repair/replacement. Better than November through spring. Nice that Tumble's appointment is soon.
Kylia - enjoy your vacation, what a beautiful area. Great news from the heart doc.
Heather - love the photo of the grands. I didn't realize Max was so tall.
Tracey - It will be interesting to see if Rodger comes around and decides to take a trip with you at some point. Does he prefer to be the driver or the passenger?
Margaret - I agree with your post. Yes, homeownership can be costly at times, but we have much more control over maintenance and other things. If you like your neighborhood and feel safe, that's worth a lot right there. Like you, I was lucky my DH did a lot of handyman things and I got to help & watch which really paid off.
Plus, you have your beautiful flowers and garden and a place that Drew calls home.😉 Your homes are your peaceful places, even with the upkeep.
The sweet young HVAC service tech came this morning, did some testing and maintenance and pronounced the heat pump & furnace good to go. I look at these competent young fellas who come to do various tasks around here as the grandsons I never had. They brighten my day. This one cost me $160 but it was worth it. 😁And I'll have a warm house this winter.

Oh my… I kept seeing responses that I didn't quite understand and realized I missed a whole bunch of posts!
Rebecca - So sweet to see how fast Eli is growing! He's getting so big so fast. Seeing Athena is always lovely. I think she's more into smiling for the camera than young Eli…
Pip - Loved the butterflies, terrific colors, good job on them.
Caught back up to the present…
Allie - Yep, the Delightful Miss Delia is definitely getting her teeth in quickly! Such a cute picture. Hope they get you feeling better soon.
Beth - The year of the mattress for you two, isn't it. I'm sorry it's been such a horrible experience all the way around. Sleep is too important for everything, and especially health, to have a bed that isn't comfortable.
Heather - Loved the picture of John, and that he accompanied you. Not sure they know how something that feels quite small to them makes us feel very loved. Corey put the clean sheets back on the bed on Saturday while I was relaxing in the living room, but said nothing, and I had no idea he'd done it until I went to bed myself. Small thing. Lots of gratitude.
Annie - It's always good to see you honey… we know you're walking down a very long road with no map to be had. Hang in there, sweetie.
Rita - I'm glad you're getting a break from the front gate - you sound a little frazzled.
Lanette - Glad you've got your heater set for winter. We're going to stick with gas heat for another winter, and I'm so glad I'm not dealing with the fireplace. I genuinely love seeing them and toasting my fingers and toes in front of one, but the mess is just not worth it anymore. Romance, schmomance. I want to be warm, and I don't want to have to be constantly working to keep it that way.
I think I caught up with all the grands and the current moment as much as I could… I was able to get 15 minutes of yoga in this morning, the longest so far in this most recent iteration. No buckling knees or ouchy hips so far. Hope I can get it all back into good shape. So easy to lose it, so hard to get it back!

MFP Weekly Check-In 9-8-2025
Debbie in Napa Valley CA - Same as last week. Was hoping for a little move in the other direction but at least it hasn't gone up.
Rita in Roswell NM - Stayed the same as last week, no gain, no loss, less activity than last week. My mind has not been in the right place lately but need to get back to it. No gain means a win. I'll take that for now but don't want to give up on the healthy behaviors I've started.

😀 Tracey, I love the photos of the grands and the sunflowers. I have driven cross country and across Canada and the trips were great. I was alone on one trip but with Jake or a friend on the others. We are fortunate to live in countries with so much diverse geography.
😀 Barbara, I am familiar with your various routes from the coast to Medford and Grants Pass. I was in high school in Eureka when the tunnel on highway 199 was built and saved us time driving to Weed and Yreka. Glad there's a sooner time to get to the vet. I'd love to be able to line dance with you.
😀 Heather, your grands look great on the first day of school
😀 Kylia, good news about your heart.
😀 Carla, I, too, am eternally grateful for the people like you who handle the reimbursement paperwork You are the unsung heroes.
🌻Carol, I am thinking good thoughts for your husband and his procedure. There are so many amazing medical procedures these days. Take care of yourself.
😀 Pip, congrats on your successful ride.
😀 Machka, I, too, like having an extra person in the group so the burden of conversation is off me.
😀 Annie, you are doing great with your dad. You're looking after him and getting things done.
🌻 Margaret , I agree that there are so many factors to consider in choice of a home. Cost is only a small part. Someone told me "Money isn't the game. It's just a way to keep score"
😀 Same old stuff today. Dog walking, Zoom meeting, an hour of puttering in the yard, TV and exercise bike and knitting, phone call with daughter, then dinner and dog walking with friend followed by early to bed.
