WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR SEPTEMBER 2025

😀 I just finished pouring the 15 pound bag of dry dog food into the plastic container and was reminded again that cost isn't always the best criterion for making a decision about a purchase. The 30 pound bag is so much cheaper to buy but the difficulty of pouring it into the container is beyond terrible. Any time I find myself saying "I"d give anything if ….." I ask myself if there's a way to throw money at the problem. One of the lessons I learned during the pandemic was that safety was far more important to me than money. Convenience was also important. Thus I was able to set cost farther down the list and take care of what was necessary with safety and convenience ahead of cost in making decisions.
😱 Carol, what a disappointing outcome from your husband's expected procedure.. Take care of yourself. This is a tough time for you both.
😀Debbie, glad you are getting a new refrigerator That will relieve a lot of stress at your house.
🌻🎶 I successfully took the car to the Toyota dealer for the computer upgrade. It was easy and the people's were nice. Annie was left home for more than two hours. She greeted me like the videos of the dogs greeting their owner home again after two years away at war 🐾🌻

I meant to make that reply to Beth because of her troubles with her bed. Carol your name was on my mind because of what is going on with your DH. (Hugs)

If you look on my food diary, I literally pigged out at dinnertime! Can people see food diaries nowadays? I had leftover roast beef, potatoes, carrots, beef broth with wild rice and some handfuls of shredded cabbage in there. It was reminiscent of my past soup extravaganzas! I think I got all my liquids in and MORE!😁😂

Rebecca – happy anniversary. Awesome weight loss
Carol – I can’t believe it!
Pip – what a wonderful thing you did. I know if ever one of our cats got out, I would certainly love someone to do what you did
Deb – so glad you got the new fridge and that dh can get it to fit. How frustrating it is when something doesn’t fit
barbie – I always buy the smaller bottle of clothes detergent for the exact reason you get the smaller bags of dog food. Yes, it would be cheaper to get the larger bottle, but it would also be harder to pick up. So I’ll spend more $$$
We went to ceramics tonight. Picked up my Taz
We decided to change the days making dinner. J does M,W,andF. I do T, Th, Sat. and Sun. Well, today I made them a chicken fajita quesadilla. I know that Vince would not eat it. C had a late lunch so I had the shrimp I had defrosted for Vince and gave him leftover meatloaf. Had the quesadilla in the warming tray, I’d made coleslaw. Came home and they didn’t have any. J is now having a little (9:30). I don’t think I could eat this late
Took Ganon for the 2mile walk. But it was too dark when we got back from ceramics for a shorter walk (boo)

Your cost vs convenience comments explain why I:
Order groceries online and have them delivered.
Have a dishwasher.
Drive 3/4 of the way to work, then take the bus.
Have a home gym.
Mind you many of the convenient things end up costing less in the long run.

I sent a long message to DH's heart dr. yesterday explaining all the events since Labor Day weekend and they replied. He will be getting an echocardiogram this AM and hope he gets definite help for all that's going on.
Thanks for all the concern you have shown! I am scared but praying!

Travelling across country …
In 2006, my husband (a couple years before he was my husband) and I drove from Red Deer, AB to Boston via Montreal to do a long bicycle ride. We didn't finish that ride because I got food poisoning and spent a lot of time hurling over the hills.
We drove up into Maine and then meandered our way back over to the border of Illinois and Iowa where we did a 24-hour cycling race.
After the race we drove to Los Angeles … he flew back to Australia and I flew back to Red Deer.
In 2012, my husband (who I had been married to for 4 years) and I drove from Vancouver to Florida diagonally, then back along the border of Mexico to California, then followed the coast up.
In 2024, my husband and I did the Indian-Pacific train across Australia from Perth to Adelaide to Sydney.
In 2004, a cycling friend and I did Melbourne (in the south of mainland Australia) to Cape Tribulation which is almost all the way up to the top of Australia via the east coast by bicycle and bus. After Cape Trib, the cycling becomes a little more treacherous because of road conditions, crocs, and lack of services, so we turned around there. We also did quite a bit of Tasmania then.
And I've crossed a few other smaller countries and have almost circumnavigated France. I kind of like the idea of going from one side of a country or province or state to the other, or circumnavigating them.
In Canada, I would very much like to get out to the east coast … I haven't done that yet.

Today, I returned to work in the office. I didn't accomplish much.
But one of the reasons I wanted to be in the office was because I had booked in to be a hair model at the local hairdressing school.
This is the second time I've been a hair model - getting my hair cut by a student who needs to do certain things to complete her course. (I say "her" because both times the students were female) Both times have been very long, but really nice and I have liked their work. They do a nice job.
I had my hair cut by a normal salon about 3 months ago, but didn't really like the cut very much. My hair was past my waist, and the hairdresser chopped it off in about 3 snips and charged me $40. It didn't sit nicely or curl nicely and I actually don't even think it was straight across the bottom.
This is much better - very carefully done, with a shampoo, scalp massage, and conditioning treatment for much less than $40.

Hey, kids,
Not much to say, as everyone's said everything I would have or could have said, but I have read everyone's posts. Been doing some painting. Picked up some gouache for the first time, and played around a bit yesterday. It's actually a very intense watercolor, and quite fun to play with. Cleans up easy. This is still wet, as it actually dries to a very matte surface. I linked the word gouache above to a video that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about the medium.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Lisa, how fun!
That reminded me of some watercolors I have. Today sounds like a good day to play with paint! Your painting is so vibrant and dramatic! Love it!

Welp! Up .6 lbs from the soup yesterday. No matter its the sodium. I logged my up tick on my weight chart. My journey looks like a drunkard stumbling down stairs!😂🙃. Hey eventually I will get down my stairs! The journey is never realistically a straight line down. Life is not like that.

Rebecca – doesn’t it feel ever so good to have to get rid of old clothes because they’re too big????
Carol – good for you writing to the MD! I’m proud of you
Made a chocolate cake for Jess and Vince (and C if he wants some.)
Eye MD in a few. Afterwards, will probably take Ganon for a walk (as long as they don’t dilate my eyes)

Day off yesterday so DH and I went to town. Went to Walgreen so DH could get his rum. Believe it or not, it is the cheapest place in town for rum. They didn't have any more but I did get a bottle of the daytime face cream with retinol that I like with spf 30 in it that happened to be on sale. After went to Albertson and got some fruit and veggies. Next went to PO where some mail, pills, and toothpaste had come in. I get all our medications by mail order and I have very dry mouth due to a gland I had removed years ago and medication I take so need to use dry mouth toothpaste. Getting through Amazon through their subscription service is the cheapest way to get that. From there on to the other Walgreens for DH's rum, then to a smoke smoke shop for his vape. They finally had opened a new sub place (took 3 years to finish it!), so we went there for lunch and was not impressed. From there to Sam's for water, creamer, and a few other things, then Walmart just because it is next door to Sam's 🙄. Busy day home by 3pm then deal with campers, walk Lucy, and collapse at the table and watch TV.
Today, I already took Lucy for a walk, meditated, and am now working at the visitor center. Nothing much else planned for today, except for dealing with campers. There is a major Air Race happening here for the first time and the campground (all the Roswell campgrounds), and hotels are all full until Sunday. Should be an interesting few days!!
Thought for today:
Why do bees have sticky hair?
They use honeycombs!

Carol - glad to hear your message got through to the cardiologist's office OK. Sounds like you applied first aid - firm, direct pressure. 😁 Crossing fingers the echo gives some answers and a path forward.
Margaret - I accepted your friend request.😁 I've gotten several requests from you ladies recently. 😉 Just an FYI - I don't normally follow anyone, but it's fun to be able to check in and see what everyone is up to from time to time. (I'm up to over 200 friends now. What?) I usually keep my feed focused local weather and happenings around here in my community. I aim to keep my posts (and I don't make very many of them) silly and fun.
Debbie - that too-tall fridge sounds familiar. Glad your DH took care of the problem and rolled with it. 😉My DH had to move the upper cabinet doors up 1", otherwise that top hinge was in the way of opening them when we got a new one. And my friend D's husband moved those cupboards up a couple inches to fit their new fridge. Anyways, hope the new one does a great job for you and lasts for years. 😁
Rita - you had a busy day yesterday! I'd be worn out for a week.😁
Rebecca - hope you get quick sales on your clothing and good $$ for the items.

spent the past few hours sorting all the stuff I had to move in the hall to get the fridge out/in.
Tons of stuff for the daycare-puzzles, books, craft supplies, etc.I have three large (banana size boxes) full of stuff to drop off at a friends house who is having a garage sale on Saturday to benifit a local cat rescue group she helps.
I get rid of things I don't need anymore and the rescue group gets some help.I still have a lot more to go through- just taking a break to eat. 1PM and have only had a cup of tea before this- Tomato sandwich with Dave's killer seed bread and a tomato I went out and picked to make it- can't get much fresher than that.
I will work on the decluttering more this afternoon. Hoping to have half as much stuff in the hall than we had before- lets see how long it stays that way before dh start putting more stuff there- he already took the other hall ways. I do have two small book cases in the second one- more daycare stuff that I will go through but not today. One is all books- Golden books-a whole shelf of the old ones, Serindipty books-bought them 40yrs ago from a book of the month club. Not ready to part with them quite yet- most have never been read. A few other sets in there too. The other book case is craft supplies. Need those for Ezie, for now.
Class tonight and aqua on Friday- just two more aqua classes for the summer. Will miss it but will enjoy my Friday evenings off.
Going to finish my tea and get back to work. Waiting for my son to drop off more boxes so I can sort more
