I just read this article:

Good grief. I'm gonna think about this article while I chew on some bacon, donuts and hamburgers.

...but only when it comes to omega-6 fatty acids. Overall, it's still a heck of a better choice than a doughnut.

Not to mention the harm intensive tilapia farming does to the environment!

its not really just tilapia - farmed fish in general are much worse than wild caught - BUT wild caught or many kinds are being fished to extinction so farmed fish is a way for people to enjoy fish and not destroy species.

I think farmed fish is like anything - enjoy it if you enjoy it, if you don't its not something you need to force yourself to eat. If you need omega 3s in your diet, take a supplement.

That's why I rarely eat fish (only salmon now and then).

I, joejccva71 of the MFP world QUESTION the legitimacy of the above said article and such said STUDY posted within. There have been NO controlled studies or research PROVEN that determines that eating such fish containing the omega-6 fatty acid compound is unhealthy nor the cause of CVD or CHD.

There is not enough EVIDENCE nor RESEARCH to support such arguements.

    1. There is no study nor evidence to show or support that bacon is bad for you.
    2. There is no study nor evidence to show or support that Tilapia is bad for you. (Yes this includes the above "study" because that's not a cited study...it's an article.
    3. There is no study nor evidence to show or support that Saturated Fats are bad for you.

    Did I leave anything out?

In other news scientists say that you are for sure going to die someday, and pretty much anything you ate or touched since birth might have contributed to it.

and this article seemed remarkably lacking in actual science

Who feeds talapia corn and soy pellets?? Talapia that are farm raised usually eat pellets that are made out of ground/rendered fish because it's cheaper and higher protein. If you feed talapia fish-based pellets too they put on more weight faster (again, making it cheaper).

I guess reading it again they do try to make it sound BAD for you -- I sort of read it the first time as "farmed fish isn't as good as you mgiht think, stop stuffing your face with it" which I think about EVERYTHING

I have a donut every month on free donut day (stingy *kitten*, ONE lousy donut a month?) and bacon and hamburgers kinda often compared to some people on here. I have not found that my non-"clean", not particularly low fat, not particularly high in veggies or fruit diet has been unhealthy. In fact I'm putting on a surprising amount of muscle for someone who is dieting.

But I do think more people need to get the message about farmed fish, some people think they are sooo healthy because they eat fish instead of other meat and it really depends on WHAT fish and how much of it you eat. high fat fish are also high in calories (surprise!) so you and your high fish diet could be eating a lot more calories than me and my hamburger do (although I generally opt for chicken because its really hard to fit a lot of beef into a 1600 calorie day)

Dude, I think you said everything that I wanted to say with your post. It's like how coffee was bad for you, then good for you, bad, and now good. Remember Omega 3 and how that's supposed to be the magic bullet cure for cholesterol? You said it well. Shenanigans, I tell you. Shenanigans!
