LESS Alcohol ~ September 2025 ~ One Day at a Time

@itladyee a White Sox game sounds like a lot of fun! Tailgating too. I know what you mean about those sunny seats in a stadium!
@Walela617 thanks for the reminder about the upcoming world events on September 21st. It’s lovely that you will pray for our world. It feels like we sure need it now more than ever.
I always love hearing about your adventures with your sail boat @Womona! Starting with when each new season opens and closes and everything in between. Stay safe while wrapping it up.4 -
Feels like fall is near! I’ve been putting on lounge clothes earlier at night since it’s getting darker earlier. Feels comforting to be safely in my home while the outer world is full of strife. Also starting to enjoy herbal teas at night again.
I’m still walking everyday and doing yoga or stretching most nights. Take good care of yourselves this week.
Current accountability:Skipped the glass(es) of wine 7/14 days this month.

Stumbled this weekend again - overall drink counts are going down but still higher than I'd like to see in a single day. Goal for this week is all green dots.

Ma'am!! I have been lurking a little here and there, but I'm struggling with the daily wine habit. That's for sure. I thought I commented on you losing your Tinker, but I may have thought I did and then did not. I'm sorry for the loss of your kitty but happy to see you have 2 new babies to keep you occupied. Thank you for tagging me and saying all of that! I'll be back full time soon…maybe starting today! I miss you guys too! I've been trying to keep up with everyone and I'm LOVING all the new names that are joining in and the old ones coming back (I'm looking at you, @xbowhunter I've wondered how you were!)
We took a 10 night Canadian cruise the first part of September that was absolutely gorgeous…the weather, the ports, the ship, the nature, the scenery! I think Saguaney and Quebec City were my favorite ports, but it was our first time in Boston and I LOVED that too! I fell on the ship on night 2 and hurt my knee pretty bad, but I didn't let it stop me. It hurt, but I saw everything anyway. I wasn't missing anything on that once in a lifetime trip!
I will not commit to less alcohol, yet, but I will in about a week. I have a short getaway with my sister this coming weekend. I'll be back on Monday, and I'd like to plan on turning this thing around. I need to take off this 10 pounds of cruise weight too, and with not being able to exercise with my knee, it has to be all diet…and that means bye, bye wine!
Keep on keeping on, all of my favorite peeps!!
7 -
So glad you checked in, @chicbuc. Rest that knee, and definitely get to a doctor if it doesn’t feel better in a couple days.
Down 1.2 lbs this week, total of 8.4, and only 43.6 to go until I can slip on that dress! Still hangs on my closet door as a constant reminder.
Started walking again last week. I was only doing 1 lap which is roughly 1 mile, but today I did 2. I’ll keep that up as much as I can this week, but my daughter has a bunch of doctor appointments this week. The goal is no matter what do not exceed 1200 calories a day for the next two weeks, so I can lose the 3.8 lbs of the 5 lbs I set as a goal to lose this month. Not drinking should help.

@chicbuc Thank you for replying. I was missing you. I'm not doing well in the LA thing either. You probably did comment on Tinker, but I've been an emotional wreck since losing her. I'm crying right now. I have a Google Desktop sidebar on my computer that shows a slideshow of pictures and almost all are of Tinker.
The new kitties are very sweet. Our boy kitty, Rascal is a lover boy and he fell in love with me. It's even hard to do anything on the computer. He want's to be held constantly. Except when he's playing with his sister. They love to play. I mentioned it before, but it's like having a couple of squirrels loose in the house.
BTW…when I lost 30 pounds or so in just a few months, I wasn't exercising at all. It was just diet.
Anyways, I'm glad to see you back! And, hopefully, we can both have some success! Keep on keeping on!

@NonnieDoiron I have to commend you on your AF goals and your weight loss. Cutting out alcohol really does make the weight fall off.
Have a nice day everyone!

Hi everyone! AF tonight, but I overdid it yesterday, so hopefully this balances out my alcohol intake a little.
Hope everyone has a great week. Let’s go get ‘em!6 -
Really struggling this time. The dam habit has creeped back in to my life. Well I'll take it one day at a time and hope I can find the strength to abstain again.
Not planning on having any alcohol today. I will reach for a zero beer if I get a craving.
cheers!
10 -
@NonnieDoiron your dedication is inspiring! Keep it up!
@xbowhunter It is a struggle. Take it one moment at a time if you have to. You can do it because I watched you do it before and marveled at your restraint!

@chicbuc welcome back and glad you had fun on that trip, sounds amazing.
Drinking seltzer with lemon juice and ginger powder. Love it. That with my evening apple is my night time ritual.
Wine tastes like rubbing alcohol to me. I am so turned off to it. That's what no drinking for a year did to me. Same with bourbon, total burning poison and impossible to tolerate. Oddly, I can drink endless tequila with juice but I'd be capable of drinking a thousand calories of it and snacking on hundreds of calories more when I get those munchies, so I will stick to AF.
Remember the old house rules when not drinking:
1-plan what to drink instead and fill the fridge with that
2-put a reminder on the fridge
3-don't go to to the store after 5pm tired and hungry and thirsty
4-hydrate and eat a small snack in the hours before craving time
5-convince yourself can do this and it's not that hard

@xbowhunter Welcome back! I've changed my username, but you do know me. I'm the girl from Oregon, US. My poison of choice is whiskey. Anyways, you did so well in the past. I know you can do it again!
@globalhiker It's amazing how your tastebuds have changed. I hope that happens to me too! It's funny…I used to drink Cuervo Gold with my friends with the salt and lime. But, for some reason, when I was in my 30's, I was at home with a couple of friends. We were planning on doing shooters. But, when I raised the shot glass up to drink it, I couldn't do it anymore. The smell was just not appealing. The ginger powder sounds interesting. I have ginger root in the freezer and a while back I started making ginger tea. But, I prefer cold beverages. So, I gave up on that idea. I'll have to try ginger powder.
Have a nice day everyone!

Over half way through the month of LESS ALCOHOL September! Every day is a new beginning for us — wherever we are!
Sending out support for those really struggling and kudos for those doing well this month.
For me, this path is a process of learning and growth, through trial and error along with regular reflection.
I find it helpful to take a step back once in a while and look at the bigger picture. Then, I’m more able to see how far I’ve come and appreciate the little and big changes.
Such excellent reminders for planning ahead and how to follow through @globalhiker-they really do work, thank you!@xbowhunter so glad you’re back. You crushed your health goals before, you can do it again.
Sounds like a truly amazing cruise you had @chicbuc!Using the power of pre-commitment today. Aiming for close to 15 days no wine in Sept. currents days = 8
Let’s go take on the day!

Thanks everyone for the praise. Fair warning… There is an element of addiction in what I’m currently doing. Instead of drinking wine, I’m calculating to the ounce/gram every morsel of food. I’m staring at MFP food diary trying to persuade myself not to ingest one more calorie. I’m refreshing my FitBit app to get every step, every calorie used I can on the record. This replacement addiction is the only thing keeping me from the wine addiction.
Believe it or not I was thrilled when bestie said no alcohol last weekend. And, I was even more thrilled when she wanted to go for a walk Saturday morning. I cheered just as hard for her that she lost 3 lbs since her last weigh-in as I do for myself when I lose weight.
It’s all seems like good healthy behavior on the surface, but dig deeper and I’m a hot mess.

@NonnieDoiron Hey…nothing wrong with weighing everything. When I'm in "Good" mode, I do the same thing.
I hope I can get back on track again soon. I don't know why it is so hard this time. I really need to quit. My health and fitness is suffering. In the past after a few days AF it becomes pretty easy. I really just need a Day 1. I need to cut out the alcohol, eat healthy and restart exercising. The exercise part will have to start slowly. When you're not active for awhile you lose your strength, balance, coordination, etc.
I'm trying to keep up with everyone's posts. But, with daily drinking, and those of you that have been around for awhile, know that I've been having some vision problems. So, reading is a bit difficult…not to mention doing the checkbooks, etc. My problem doesn't seem to have any treatment options. I see the retinal specialist again in December. I'm hoping if I can quit drinking, maybe my vision will improve. Anyways, I'll do my best keeping up.
Have a nice night everyone!

@globalhiker Thank you for the plan of attack! I might print out the 5 steps and put it on my fridge.
When I get back on Monday, I will begin my less wine again…most likely a complete stop for at least a couple weeks. I need a break from it.
Have a great Hump Day all!
4 -
@NonnieDoiron I totally get that! I'm the same way and I never thought that it was part of my addictive personality, but it is. I have actually had the thought in my brain that I wish I could get addicted to being healthy again. Things that make you go hmmmm

Morning all!
Well I made it through yesterday with no alcohol. My plan is to have none until maybe Friday. I feel better already! :)
I need to lose a solid 10lbs and the easiest way is to consume less empty liquid calories… :)

You have broken the daily pattern @xbowhunter - awesome progress!
Just think @NonnieDoiron, being addicted to logging every bite, lick and taste is (probably) much healthier than addicted to other substances. You are reaching for the stars! So inspiring!Quebec City is on my bucket list @chicbuc!
I hope you can find the strength to take that first step you want so badly today @WestCoastGirl_7. I feel very sad that your health is suffering so much. You deserve more - maybe tap into all of the resources that can help you with your immediate situation.

@Michieb125 Thank you for your support. Unfortunately, I have enough whiskey in the house that will last until tomorrow. I'm at that point (you've probably never experienced it) where I'm afraid to be without in the morning. I've been waking up around 4 am and here in the small town we live in, the liquor store doesn't open until 9 am (11 am on Sundays).
@xbowhunter You did it! If I could get just one day, I could keep on keeping on! And, I wouldn't look back!

9/17 TBDHad planned on being AF last night…
I took the day off to take my sister to the doctor—her surgery should be scheduled soon. Then around 5:00 pm, HR called to let me know that:
- The company has been sold.
- Tomorrow would be my last day.
- No notice. No severance. No nothing.
So, I got off the phone and poured a glass (or three) of wine.
I’m already part-time (20 hours a week), but I was banking on those funds for now. A week’s notice would have been nice—you know, since they expect you to give two.
I’m the head of IT. When you close/transition a company, there are a million things that should be handled. Sounds like they’ll just let the bottom fall out. I had questions, but then realized—I don’t need to care. As of noon today, I am officially done. Not my circus, not my monkeys.
I cleaned out my office, it didn't take much. I learned after a similar crash-and-burn back in 2014 after 17 years not to accumulate too much “stuff” at work.
The owners (also kicked to the curb) did call me, which I appreciated. But bottom line:
👉 If the new owners need help, I’m available. Rate is $150/hr, sold in 4-hour blocks, payable in advance.I have mixed emotions. I am ready to retire… but I had imagined some kind of fanfare, not a “surprise, you’re done.” I’ll need to sit down and run the numbers again. My plan had been to work part-time through 2026, but… we’ll see.
@Walela617 ~ Get back up….
@Michieb125 ~ you are doing well! We went from Fall back to summer again, at least for the next two weeks and I'm ok with that.
@NonnieDoiron ~ Excellent progress! You should be feeling good!
@tmbg1 ~ nice run, keep it going!
@2timesacharmmfp The journey is personal but overall drink going down is a win in my book!!
@chicbuc ~ Glad to see you back with us. Your cruise sounds amazing. Sorry you fell through, but I'm glad you didn't let it stop you. Kind of hard in all that beauty! Any pictures to share with us?
@xbowhunter ~ keep going, you'll get your mind right and you'll be back on ther AF train before you know it.
@globalhiker ~ thanks for sharing those house rules! #1 works well and #4 I have to try..
Hello to everyone else. I leave tomorrow to pick up my puppy so by the weekend, this page will be flooded…you have been warned!

@itladyee I just typed a message. But, somehow it got lost. Anyways, I'm sorry to hear about your job. Not even giving you notice. That should be illegal.
Looking forward to seeing the pictures of your puppy!

@chicbuc I was able to view the picture. It was very cool! I don't get around much, so I really don't know where the picture was taken. Since you mentioned Quebec City, I'm assuming that's where the picture was taken.
You can also hit the picture icon at the bottom of the screen to add photos and the photo will show in your post. But, I use the desktop version of MFP, so I'm not sure if it's the same on the phone version…others can probably be more helpful on that matter LOL
Have a great evening everyone!

@itladyee that completely sucks, I’m sorry. But, I do like your new hourly rate and minimums.😉
@chicbuc that’s a pretty picture!
@xbowhunter good job on knocking out day one! Praying today goes well too.
@Michieb125 like I said, it sounds healthy, but I can see how it’s really not all that good.
