Came home from work and the guy who is doing the deck was here to talk to Vince. We had such lovely weather last week and the week before, this week they’re calling for rain. Wonderful! Got just about everything off the deck. We still need to get the grill in the house, it’s on the porch right now. Jess has some plants on the deck and porch, so she’ll need to get those off.
Deb – I would want to have a loved one get the MRI. At least you’ll know if you see signs that there’s a reason for it (or not).
Had chicken fettuccine last night. Normally, I wouldn’t have it, but I didn’t want to hurt Jess and not have it since that’s what she wanted to make. Well...once won’t kill me. I don’t think I’d want it all the time. I’ll have the soup for breakfast tomorrow that I prepared because I was thinking that Jess hadn’t planned anything so we’d have the ravioli that I have in the freezer.
Think I’ll go take Ganon for a walk.

Debbie if the MRI is a go make sure he is well hydrated because there is an IV involved and no metal on his clothing this includes zippers.
Heather Triglycerides can be elevated because of sugar, processed starches, and alcohol in the diet. If they are reduced it can reduce trigylcerides without medication. Mine went from 180 to 80 with the diet changes I made. If they are high it is one of the boxes checked for metabolic syndrome which if a precursor to diabetes.
Before my diet change I had most of the boxes checked for metabolic syndrome. Now I don't have any.so diet can make a tremendous difference. I have written about this before that when making big diet changes ease into and be aware just because a food is touted as healthy it may not be healthy for you. For me it was too many nuts, dark chocolate, sweet potatoes. I see eat them but in much smaller quantities.
Exercise does help too. If it coupled with diet changes it is even better!

Mo,
Thanks, logging is very much a daily habit, like brushing my teeth. Yesterday was a challenge because we were at the hospital for my husbands yearly liver appt, because he has a liver transplant in 2014. More of a oh you are doing fine, your numbers look good, see you next year kinda thing. So my choice for lunch was a turkey sandwich on a hearty potato bread, and a veggie, fruit tray little thing, with a piece of cheese in it. I saved the labels and hammer them in my purse. The sandwich was about 1,000+ sodium, crazy and of course way more carbs than if I had made the sandwich. It was convenient though as we didn't have to make a car run to get a cooler. So getting home I was hungry, but first thing I wanted was a tomato juice drink I make with low sodium can of V8, then the classic V8 bloody Mary mix. It is spicy but still has less sodium then if I bought the regular V8 cans of tomato juice. Plus get more juice! The cans are like 5.5 oz and then I add 2 or 4 oz of the bloody Mary mix.👍🏼😁.
Last night I called my youngest son to get an update. The had an appt last Tuesday with a surgeon, and he was a typical Navy surgeon that really hadn't read his file and son updated him on how things were going. He has a colonoscopy that needs to be done, but he needs to clear up the C Diff first. The surgeon talked about things that might happen, a reroute type surgery but its too early in the game to talk about that. Son met with a separation board panel mid week and they told him the process, about 2 months for paperwork to be done and sent to the headquarters, which will take the time line to Dec. Then he can take leave for holidays and he most likely will get separated with disabilities in Feb. He can qualify for SSDI as well. There's also VA benefits he will have access to, as there is a VA clinic annex on base here. At least he won't have to travel all the way to Seattle at the VA place there. He seemed very upbeat with how things were moving along finally. He seems to be eating well, typical young adult diet, though he avoids dairy, and chocolate. But like a pepperoni pizza he loves. Greasy foods are fine, just kind of go thru him. But he stills eats them. The doctors mentioned they aren't sure if purely Crohn's or diverticulitis as well.

Howdy Ladies!
Our trip to Seattle went well. Its nice traveling the freeways when they are not crowded. We brought our pillows and rested for 45 minutes until husband had his bloodwok, X-Ray, and ultrasound. The doctors were all happy with his process thus far, during his appt at 1 pm. Glad its all over. Slept so well last night!

Annie,
Thanks for the kind words! I have worked hard on the food, and diary logging part, but I need to really start up the exercise part. Zepbound injections make me really tired, have no energy, but I need to try to get to the gym and at least walk. I am hoping to convince husband to change his gym time to at least one that doesn't leave the house so blasted early! With the days getting shorter, and him not keen at driving in darkness, I am hoping he will be willing. He does not have great night vision.
My husband will outlive us all, (because he's got semi new pieces parts)! He's definitely a success story!

Noticing my shoulders don't seem so rounded! My neck not so blobby! My 1X pants yesterday were quite comfortable and had extra fabric in the caboose area. Losing 10 lbs by Christmas time seems totally doable, and will get me into Onederland.
Today have to make biscuits for husband because he has biscuits and gravy most Sundays. He's such a creature of habit. I just make Bisquick ones, double batch and cut the biscuits with a pint glass. They are big!
Today I think I will make chicken salad, with apples, walnuts, celery and a handful of lettuce and rotisserie chicken I need to take out of the freezer. I will most likely have that at dinnertime. Lunch might just be something simple. Last nights dinner consisted of most of a large tomato I needed to use up, 1/2 a cucumber, dressing, splash of acv, and a spoonful of crunchy garlic oil. It was spicy but just a warm spicy.
Eldest sailor son traveled back from where the squadron is stationed to near where his carrier is. It was a C130 so sitting on the sides of the plane, with cargo everywhere. Fun times. I have been in planes, where passengers are kind of an afterthought! His past ship deployment though, so he is happy about that. We video chatted last weekend and have decided when he visits during the holidays, we will be going out to eat most nights! Well one night is home cooking with my chicken fried rice, then Ramen and gyoza at the Ultra House in Langley, then sushi at Sushimoto restaurant, and lots of other places! Poor husband will be on his own getting something else!

Margaret - I am making a few tweaks to my diet, but I am eating very healthfully. If anything, better than last year, when my numbers were perfect. The difference was my terrible sleeping pattern, only getting a few hours sleep a night, the stress I allowed myself to feel with my heart pounding at night, and my almost complete inactivity. I spent most of the day lying in bed with a swollen, uncomfortable stomach.
I'm pleased to say I'm already feeling better, with more activity and a renewed zest for living. Even my stomach feels better. I am hopeful.

Heather - interesting about overdosing on Vitamin D. I guess too much of a good thing isn’t always best. I don’t think we have to worry about that much in my part of the world.
I see someone from my hometown posted about one of the Canadian team members being from there. I don’t know her, but maybe know of the family.
I too have been too sedentary lately. It’s affected my muscles terribly.Somehow though I’ve managed to lose 12lbs. I’m not quite sure how.Lisa - my only regret about moving out here is that we took the girls away from their grandparents and I was away from my grandmother. It was worse for her I think. The year we moved here my grandfather passed so she lost him, me, and the girls all in a couple of months.
I hope you get to see your grandchildren soon.
I love a nice bright white room. You can change the decor so easily when the walls are neutral.Meal planning - we had this discussion at dinner last night. Brodey’s mom was amazed at the amount of food at their house. Kaitlyn said I don’t want to think about it every day so she plans their meals on Sunday and “shops” her freezer, fridge and cupboard to decide what they’ll have that week. She then goes and just buys the things they need to make the rest of the meals. Brodey’s mom was laughing because in Kaitlyn’s mind shopping from the freezer is free food. 😂
I have never been good at planning that way.Debbie - from my experience the best thing to do is know what you’re dealing with. There have been advances in Alzheimer’s and dementia care and meds that can help slow its progression. They are several documented studies that show direct links from loneliness and isolation leading to it. We personally found when mom went into the manor her symptoms slowed dramatically and I think it’s because of the social interactions she was getting there.
I think the more information the better.Melanie - I hope you have a safe drive in the jeep. My son in law told his Mom last night how relieved he was that I have a new vehicle. Apparently he’s been on edge every time I went to visit them for the last couple of years.
Lanette - I have decided to leave my yard cleanup for a couple of weeks. I still have some flowers blooming. I have 4 days of vacation after I return so will probably do that one of those days.
They have slowly been doing the Windows 11 upgrade at work.
They haven’t reached mine yet.Pip - happy day to you!
I had a wonderful dinner last night with Kaitlyn, Brodey and his mom. She received bad news yesterday, so was a bit tipsy. She was the Dean in a department in her university for 11 years. She then worked three years heading up a new program and was acting Dean in her original spot the last 5 years. She had to apply for the position again this year and didn’t get it. She will be on a paid leave this year and next year will be teaching again.
I went for a pedicure this morning and used that time in the chair to catch up with all of you. That was hours ago now.
I am all packed and ready to go. I’m hoping my suitcase isn’t over 50 lbs.
I am not taking carryon. I like just having my purse to deal with. I bought a new one today, and think my book will sit nicely in it. I have weighed my suitcase and it says 48.6 pounds. As long as my scale matches theirs.I went and grabbed a few quick and easy things for Rodger to make himself. Not the healthiest choices.
I am going to bed early since I have to be up early to go to the airport. I have to be there at 5am, it is only a 10 minute drive so I won’t have to be up until 430. The last couple of mornings I’ve woken at 5am anyway.
My brother and his wife are at her Mom’s for the night, she is only 1/2 an hour or so from the airport I’m flying into. It’s about 3.5 hours to his house from there.I have a layover in Calgary tomorrow morning so will catch up again then.

Well, England won against Canada, but it was a good match. 😁
Tracey - I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip home. Thinking of you on your journey. 😍
Ginny - How lovely! 🤩 Gosh, it must have been tiring looking after the toddler! Happy family.
Done my exercises. They are mainly for strength training, and to keep my back, core, hips and knees working. Like Terri, I do them first thing when I wake up. The first 15 minutes are a kind of Pilates, done in bed. Then a mixture of other things for strength, including dumbbells. Also balance. It all takes around half an hour. My old knee problem is recalcitrant.
John out today! I will finish cleaning the oven door. And put in a new light bulb. This one hasn't lasted long, but I suspect it's because of the very high temperature for the occasional homemade pizza. I'm not eating those often nowdays. I have a couple of programmes recorded to watch .

Heather: Touché! I do some of mine in bed too 😂
It’s been another busy week. Isn’t it funny how things tend to turn up and fill any free time you have. DH presented me with a large bag of crab apples he had picked, so I spent time yesterday preparing them for making jelly. I’ll get that done today.
I have a demo to prepare for my Monday Painters. We will be painting a Christmas border for a card with poinsettia, ivy and holly. I’ll post a picture when it’s done.
Only 4 groups to prep for next week, and I really must clear all the clutter off my dining room table as I will be starting my Christmas cards soon. I’ve just acquired a Sizzix machine and am eager to try it out.
I’ve almost finished this week’s tasks. Will post the last few later today.
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

Heather and Terri: See, I thought I was being so innovative, because I moved to doing my alphabets with my toes in the bed, with my feet lifted about 12 inches up—helps strengthen my knees and my back. Plus I've started doing a few of the yoga stretches as well - It really makes putting on the dang compression socks soooo much easier. It had gotten quite painful to bend and twist to get those dragged on, and it's helping a lot to warm those muscles up first. And Heather, your friend is absolutely lovely and vibrant. I guess 70 really IS the new 50! 😂👀🥰
Tracey: I hope your travel is worry-free and relaxing, and I hope you have a wonderful time and get to fill up your heart with all kinds of joy with these people who love you.
All this, plus the pictures, really got me thinking about whether we could fly to Hawaii this winter, perhaps in January, see the kids… and then I checked plane flights, and that will not be happening.
Even if my body is ready for traveling, which is still a question, the expense is beyond anything resembling sense for us. I'll see them in the new year some time, and it's not the first time the world hasn't worked at the pace that I wanted time to fly. Time will pass at its own pace.
I do love the weather here right this minute - fall is really here, with the very cool mornings and pleasant afternoons. I got out and pulled all my morning glory vines down yesterday while Corey got the mowing done.
Some of those vines were as think as my pinky - tough stuff. There were only a few purple straggler blooms left, and the ants had just made lacework of most of the leaves, so it was all looking really raggedy. Time for it to go. I love it when it is all up and flowering, and love having the sun streaming back into the carport once they've gone for the winter.
Fascinates me that they spring from a seed the size of a BB to enough vines to cover a 20-foot long railing and climb all the way up to the ceiling down the whole length of the front. If this house becomes abandoned, for whatever reason, the morning glories WILL take over and turn it into a vine-covered lump of rock.
Weirdly reassuring, that.
Anyway… Corey and got up late, as we were up 'til nearly 11 last night. He was reading, and I was crocheting on my the cardigan I'm making and watching the documentary on The Biggest Loser. I watched a lot of seasons of that show.
Later,

Tom,Elena and I went out to dinner last night..I got a kids size spaghetti and meatball ,I took a bite or 2 and had a couple sips of gingerale thats all I could take..as we were leaving I sat on a bench and promptly vomited 4-5 times..talk about embarrassing..poor Elena was rubbing my back Tom went to the car and got some paper towels for me to clean up with... I just feel so embarrassed, they were very sweet about it..and of course Alfie was thrilled to see me.

This weekend, I finally have some of my energy back. September hasn't been a particularly good month - got sick with whatever plague (not COVID) is going around the office and schools and was out of action for a long time. Even when I was well enough to go to work, the plague left me feeling so fatigued and headachy I felt like I was moving in slow motion at work and could hardly do anything in the evenings.
But this weekend, I finished organising the living room part of our main room as well as dusting and cleaning the floor. My husband's section is not neat because order is not his strong suit - periodically, I rescue something from his heap and put it back where it belongs but otherwise I usually turn a blind eye to that particular area. However, the rest of the place looks good.
The living room is not set up conventionally or conversationally. It is set up for the 2 of us. But in the interests of having guests occasionally, we've added 2 chairs to make it possible to have a bit more of a conversation area.
On Friday, we also went to one of our favourite tip shops where I got a bench I'm using for my keyboard. And my keyboard is now accessible, so I've been plunking out a few songs and doing a scale or two. I've been kind of itching to get back into attempting to play again. The bench is great because it's a storage bench, so I'll be able to put my music books inside.
We also got the most fabulous doll house, all made of wood. I want to play with it! But of course, it will go to our granddaughters.
On Friday, we also donated a large bag of cat stuff to a cat rescue organisation. Rhody (our cat) has certain things he likes, and quite a number of things we got for him that he paid absolutely no attention to.
As we are in something of a decluttering mode this year, we decided we might as well donate the things he's not interested in.
I've also walked outside, I've done other housework, and I've done quite a bit for the cycling club.
I hope energy stays with me.
I also hope that we start having some warmer weather. 1 month of spring is almost gone and it's been cold and windy - not good for getting out in the garden.

John on his walk with his younger daughter. They walked about nine miles in all! Had a Sunday roast dinner at a slightly weird hotel. Food was ok, but the service was clueless. But he loved meeting up with her. (Another leopard!) Always good to catch up.
She will be 53 next birthday, and John 80. Not bad going! She plays a lot of pickleball.

Made it to town and back alive. The old girl had all her fluids changed, new tires put on, and a wash. The wash really made the teeth marks that the horses made stand out- they love to chew on vehicles so nothing of any value is used to check on them. We run about 180 so they are in various pastures that need to be checked daily. The results after spending over $1200 dollars on her make over:
Heather and Lisa- I actually woke up crying this morning for absolutely no reason. I got home from town yesterday around 2. Figured I’d get everything unpacked then read a little and nap before I worked out. Woke up and binged on on whatever high carb and sugar I could get my hands on then watched tv from 4-9 when I went to bed. There was so much I could have accomplished but just found myself in this major slump I can’t seem to shake. My poor husband doesn’t know what to do, god bless him. He has suggested we do something tonight. Told him I’d think about it. Not sure where to go from here.
Lanette- people that drop off animals should be prosecuted and not allowed to own animals. My first cat was one that someone had thrown out of a vehicle on the highway. His breathing was laboured throughout life. We have had lots of cats and dogs show up here. The cats aren’t a problem as they typically end up as barn cats, but we can only afford to keep so many dogs (4 now). And some like to chase the livestock which is a definite no. We have managed to re home 2 in the last few months but it’s not easy. I hope the shelter has room for those you found.
Rebecca- healing vibes sent your son’s way. Not having a definitive diagnosis is tough. Good job on the weight loss! Keep it up 😊
Tracey- safe travels ✈️
Ginny- precious kiddos 💜
Lisa- I watched the biggest losers documentary too. I watched that show thinking it would somehow inspire me. I am embarrassed to say but I did once do a 10 day fast thinking I would “reset” myself and after the first 5 days I think I lost 12 pounds and remember thinking- that’s a biggest losers loss. Looking back I am like what in the heck was I thinking?!?! No wonder I have had issues with bingeing. My brain is just so used to the restriction that it gets as much food in as it can when it feels threatened. I am working on eating enough and not getting too hungry. Keeping that part of the brain that wants to protect me from starvation happy. Not easy as then the other part is scared of gaining weight. I really, really wish I had never gone on that first diet- I truly didn’t need to. Ah, the wisdom that comes with age.
Take care everyone 🩷

Does anyone think this is silly…that at 50+ we're still battling the same battle?
Told my sister, we know this stuff; we just need to do what we know!
But my compulsion with food is not the only compulsion I battle, and doing it alone is not an option.
Though it is the end of September, I'm choosing to avail myself of support, for the month of October. And to support others.
Thank you for being here!

very late with my comments about what I did as a kid- still 4 pages behind in reading.
We lived out in the country, 10 miles from our little town on 3 1/2 acres. We raised all of our own meat(beef, pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, chicken) and had an acre of garden so summer time was spent working in the garden when it wasn't too hot. When it was hot, we hung out in the "jungle" which was overgrown with trees and wild grape vines that were huge with a creek at the edge of our property.
The garden and meat were for our family of 5 plus my grandparents who lived in town and my uncle plus his family and my aunt plus her family. They would come out and help harvest and mom would can or freeze everything and fill everyone's freezers/pantries
We didn't have tv for the first few years we were there-we moved there when I was in 4th grade, before that lived in the country on the other side of the little town. We played a lot of board games. When we did get tv it was just 3 channels at best. I did a lot of craft projects and sewed. I started sewing when I was in 4th grade
We had quite a few chores to do so that took up most of our free time in the afternoons after school.
Both inside and outside chores. Mom made a list and each week we rotated between my two sisters and I.
Chores inside were dishes, cleaning the bathrooms, folding laundry, bringing in the firewood, etc.
Outside included feeding the animals and when needed, milking the goats.Debbie

It always amazes me that some flowers have such amazing smells while others, same type, have basically no smell. Like my roses- some smell so strong while others barely any smell. The old fashioned carnations- I LOVE them, the new carnations kind of stink to me. The iris I have smelled are the old ones like my great grandmother grew-oh, one of my favorite scents but I did notice my friends who hybredizes, hers don't smell as sweet.
Another amazing scent is the freesia- I need to plant more of them this fall/springDebbie
