Melanie - I'm sorry you're struggling… Don't take this as medical advice, but when my thyroid was going totally in and out at the beginning, I was having those "slumps." I would blame them on the weather changing, finances, pretty much anything but how my body was working… but now, as soon as I get that feeling that it's just more than I can do to move at all, and crying is easier than making breakfast, I get tested. That first one was ten years ago, when I was 55… And it's gone off again a couple of times in the last few years. Had to move up now to 100 mcg, and will get tested shortly to make sure that dosage well enough. I'm not saying that's what's wrong with you, but there may be physical issues that are driving your mental/emotional state.
Regarding binging, I think we all come to it in our own ways, but for me, I had to quit restricting myself in order to break that cycle, which was terrifying, bluntly. But here on the other side of it all, if want something, now, I eat it. I just don't add other calories to it. Like Barbie eating her cake instead of dinner, she was able to really enjoy that.
When I finally let myself eat binge foods, instead of saying terrible things to myself and eating them anyway, the urge to keep going and eat it all did finally stop. I think I just had to learn to stop punishing myself. When I did, a lot of the stress around food stopped in its tracks.
Time for a nap for me, was up too late last night!
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR9 -
Heather and Terri - I do some stretching exercises before getting out of bed as well.
Terri - when I received my Cricut as a gift I sold my Sissix, it and some dies were what I missed the most so when I had the opportunity to get a used one I jumped on it. I’ve been slowly purchasing the dies again. They are more convenient than the Cricut to me.
Lisa - I watched that documentary on The Biggest Loser as well, I watched all the seasons of it and had the Biggest Loser Wii game.
Sorry flights are so outrageous to Hawaii.Melanie - like Lisa, I thought medical too. I have struggled for the last few years, blamed depression, stress, everything but what it was. I started HRT in March and finally feel human again.
Well I’ve caught up with y’all on the plane. I am in the process of descending into Moncton, NB. My dear brother and sister in law will be there to meet me.Rodger asked me if I was coming back when he dropped me off this morning. I said yes, he asked if I promised.I dod say I would be back for sure. Maybe he will miss me when I’m gone.

Ladies! I've been kidnapped by the sunny day and still going at it outside. Did another quick skim, really need to sit down and read what all you ladies have been up to. Looks like there's lots!
Tracey - glad to see you've made it home. Is the terrain flat? Every time I'd fly back to Indiana from the foothills here, I was amazed I could see for miles (mostly corn and soybeans) and my view wasn't blocked by evergreens.
Anyhow, wanted to pop in with a reminder about tomorrow's Weekly check-in for those participating.
I need to get my SWSY done before I head back out and do more rain-proofing on the chicken run. Getting in practice for the November monsoons.😁

I have a pair that I usually keep in the trailer for walking and sometimes I bring them home to wash. Since I was thinking about running while I was here I brought a better pair. I have unpacked everything and I didn’t bring the old pair back, lucky me, at least I have something to walk with tomorrow. I didn’t bring my slippers that I usually keep here either!.

Did Balance Ball express DVD then part of Ultimate Power Yoga DVD. Then took Ganon for a walk, then to WalMart. Also stopped at Sam’s to see if they have croutons that you can buy in just one bag, not multiples. Also needed tomatoes. Bought bananas, I don’t know how much of a bargain they’ll be.
Tracey – I guess I cook the same way Kaitlyn does. I plan my meals for the next week, mostly depending on things we have in the house. Then I go and buy what else is needed
The other day Jess bought chicken breasts at Costco telling me that we can put them in the freezer and how much of a savings that would be. Yet, the other night she had to buy chicken breasts because they were already defrosted. So where is the savings???? If you buy produce and it goes bad before you can finish it so you have to throw it out, where is the savings? She and C went out to breakfast. I just can’t understand the desire to go out for breakfast. But they do, so that’s OK. You have to wait in line to be seated, you order then have to wait for your food, you don’t really know what’s going into your food. Not to mention that it’s expensive. Oh well, it works for them. I just had the leftover soup from the other day. I don’t mind that for breakfast.
Lisa – I never really cared for Biggest Loser. I think I watched it once and then never again.
Melanie – one of the cats we had was so abused that she had air leaking out of her trachea. We had her for about 12 years (and LOTS of money to take her to NCState to have a polyp removed). She never was able to meow. Towards the end of her life she made a noise, but not a normal meow. I like that saying “live and learn...and die a fool”
Tracey – love the trees. Thanks for posting
Question for all dog walkers: I have a strong suspicion that Ganon is going to be here during the winter. Now, in the past I’ve walked even in the cold and kept my hands in my pockets with handwarmers. Well, he has one leash that I like, it just goes around my wrist and I can put my hand in my pocket. Here’s the dilemma: I’m not crazy about carrying around a bag of poop. If he goes on my street, I just pick it up and drop the bag in the road and pick it up on the way back. What do you all do during the cold weather when you have to carry a bag of poop? I really don’t want to put it in my pocket along with my hand, but I don’t know what you do with it. Is there some sort of thing that you can attach to the leash to put it in until you get to the garbage? Inquiring minds want to know.

When the local vet checked Tumble’s incision, it was inflamed, swollen, possibly infected. Surprised the OSU vet hadn’t sent antibiotics. Turns out giving her the minimum of the sedatives/meds was a mistake. It left her too lively. Bad Mama! New compression bandage, antibiotics and stern lecture about keeping her quiet, coned, kenneled. Upping the dosages of Trazadone and Gabapenten to the upper end of the range (I’d been giving the minimum) seems to keep her pretty chill. Joe’s been great about carrying her down and up the stairs, but we won’t keep her coned, there’s no way she can reach the bandage and she doesn’t trouble it. So far she doesn’t need to be kenneled either, if Mooch barks, she does sit up and bark, but doesn’t try to chase him. We do what we can. Re-check tomorrow at 10:30. Fingers X’d. Biopsy results still not in, maybe Monday.
Welcome @628464 ! Many of us here don’t do the friend thing, just keep in touch on this thread. Alcohol can derail me, but I allow myself red wine two days a week to minimize the damage.
Welcome @Pam _In_WA! You’re right, we do just need to do what we know. Lots of good info, support and wisdom here. Watch for the October link at the end of the day Tuesday.
Melanie belated happy birthday. Thanks for the Stormi pic, what a cutie! Sad about the foal, relieved you and the Jeep survived.
Rori  hearing about N’s hippie van. Please take us along!
Penny in TX welcome back!
Belated best birthday wishes, dear Tina.
Mo, yes, Tumble does look like the Drama Queen she is, but then you should see her chasing Mooch, or wading in the tide pools, or rolling in nasty stinky stuff, or or or … Her surgery cost $3500 so far, another $150 for tomorrow’s bandage recheck/change, plus the $250 for 3 nights at Motel 6 and about another $300 for gas and food. Not sure about pet insurance, wonder if it only covers part, like dental insurance. Afraid it would have been very expensive for a 10 year old dog unless they adjust premiums based on different average lifespans of different breeds.
Annie, the care farm sounds like a good alternative. I’m with you, awful memories of being forced to play dodgeball, what an aggressive, sadistic, schoolyard “game.”
Ginny welcome Finn! Thankful for his safe arrival.
Heather “…The more uncomfortable you feel physically, the less likely you are to exercise.” And “The spiral of inactivity is horribly quick” Truth this. The sciatica and cranky knee have cut my daily step average in half. I know that if I get up and move a little, even do just a few modified PT exercises I’ll feel better, its just getting over that first Owwy hump. [sigh] Your friend is stunning, as are you!
Rebecca good job taking care of your Chief. Could all your boys be home for the holidays?
Machka that “keep a 40 yr old fridge…” meme made me laugh out so loud I woke Joe!
Lanette, nope, not to Win 11 yet and so far no grey screen of death.
Tracey safe travels. Relish every moment.
Lisa I’m impressed at your 12 inches elevated for toe alphabets. My feet are firmly on the mattress when I do mine. I’m with you about the compression socks. Well done on the room and ((hugs)) for missing your DD and DGD.
Rita (hugs held extra long)
Carol prayers for your DH and you. Keep us posted?
Pip enjoy your camping trip.
Beth there was something I wanted to say to you but I’ve forgotten . . .;{

II will have eldest sailor home for a week in Dec, then my youngest will take leave in Dec sometime. Its still up in the air on when. I do not know if middle son and family will come visit. My daughter in-laws mom just moved into her own place about 10 min from them and this will be her first holiday in Washington, so I imagine she will wish to host Christmas at her home. But two out of three sons is pretty good!

Still pages behind but I am catching up.
I talked to mom for two hours tonight- At the beginning of the conversation she was really wanting to cancel the appointment but by the end she said she will see me on Tuesday morning, ready to get it done and find out instead of "putting her head in the sand". If there is something- meet it head on
She still has tomorrow to change her mind but I don't think she will.
Machka- thank you for your insight- It really helped when I was talking to mom9 -
I have had an MRI (shoulder issue-ended up being Frozen shoulder)and if I ever have to have another one I will request they give me meds. I didn't know I was clastrophobic until I had one- It was terrible- I was shaking so bad that I had to put my hands under my thighs. When it was finally done, I had to hold onto the hand rail all the way out and then sat in my car for over half an hour before I felt ok to drive the two miles home. Since then, things like that bother me even more.
Hopefully I never have to have another one.
I didn't get meds because I didn't know it would be an issue. Plus, I was driving myself-with meds, you need a driver. Dh was heading to China for two weeks so I couldn't reschedule my appointment5 -
thank you for that- I will let her know both of those things, especially the extra hydration

If you were in my neighbourhood, you'd put the poop in a rubbish bin at one of the playgrounds or parks in the area.
But it looks like you don't have a lot of those in your neighbourhood.
The Exxon on Valero should have rubbish bins. Do you walk out that way?

Hello, my chickens…
Just doing the usual Monday morning chores, washing (I've got to go get the load of colored clothes in to wash and swap the bleached load into the dryer), and getting my meds sorted for the week. Plus I need to start the dishwasher.
Medica-lala-palooza:
Sent the email request for three prescription renewals yesterday, pain meds, nausea and a sleep aid, so that's out of the way. As Allie says, if you shook me, I'd rattle from all the pills.
Have to get my every-other-month request for Skyrizi sent the end of next week, and then do the injection mid-month.
Also have blood tests next Monday for the new thyroid dosage and to see if my iron's staying where it's supposed to, and a telemedicine call the following Friday with the hematologist. I need to get them to renew my iron if I need to stay on it, which I'm pretty sure I will.
Just maintaining all this fabulousness is a lot of work, you know. 😅👀😂 It always feels like a tightrope, but I certainly couldn't do everything I do without the medical support. I think about that sometimes - that without medical intervention, I'd be long gone. As much as I crank about it, I am grateful that it's there. It makes my life an awful lot better than it would have been otherwise.
And, speaking of what I do, more adventures in home reno:
A little bit of sanding, a bit of drywall mudding and a lot of caulk are in my future today… whee! Shouldn't be too much sanding, as Corey went in and put the initial mud on the only bit of new wall in there, and he's an economical person when it comes to mud. I am not. I tend to be a little enthusiastic with that stuff. It's much like making the mud pies we made as kids, but then you get to spread it all over a wall! Way fun. 😂👀😅
Started the caulking yesterday, but most of the caulking needed in that room is the baseboards, and every time I bent over to start, I got dizzy. Not vertigo - it's a very different beast. But, I just quit, and I'll try again today. Quit partially because a lot of the caulking is also on a ladder, and that wouldn't have been a good thing when I'm dizzy either.
Plus Corey's mud job needed to dry enough to sand. Should have put a fan on in there last night and forgot.
I would very much like to be moving the rolling storage racks back in there by the time the week is over… It is going to be the designated storage and exercise room. In fact, this week, I'll be working around the elliptical in there, nicely covered with a couple of old sheets. It was assembled in that room, and won't be coming out without being disassembled! As it is, it weighs 200 pounds (90kg), so all I can do is slide it on a smooth surface—and that takes serious effort.
Will also be keeping the rower out to start using it again instead of hiding it in the closet, too. It's time to get my knees back to the point where I can climb up and down stairs without one-at-a-timing it. Rowing should help a lot.
Once the room is done, I've got a couple doors lined up… need to get the hinge areas routed out on one of the "new ones" as it is going on my bedroom door, and need to cut the old bedroom door down to use it outside, as the door for the shop. We've worked around the old crappy one that's there for seven years! It's always needed a new one, but it's always slid down the priority list.
I bought the bedroom door the same time I bought the bathroom door that's right across the hall, when we got the house in July of 2018. (Corey's comment was "You do tend to "pre-buy." Love that guy. 🥰) The bathroom door had to be replaced before I'd move in, as a very large dog had been locked in that room (they'd even installed a latch on the outside), and had destroyed the inside of that bathroom door up to more than five feet high, literally clawed right through the first layer on that hollow door.
Chilling. Seriously. Those people were some kind of sick. It had to have happened dozens of times to be that bad.
Anyway, neither of the doors I have actually fit the old shop doorway, one's too big, and one's too small, so I have to do some jiggery-pokery somehow, but without actually making the doorway narrower. The table saw JUST barely fits in there now. Hmm… I could build a new frame OUTside to hang the larger door opening out instead of in. Need to think about that for a bit. And talk to Corey.
These are the things that are running through my mind on little cat feet. Or stomping and yelling, as some cats do.
Egg, who is sound asleep on my ironing board as I write this, couldn't be rousted out of the bedroom this morning, so the MOMENT Corey pulled out of the driveway, she got up on the headboard and sang me the song of her people. And then sharpened her claws a bit. And then sang some more.
Off-key.
And very, very loud.
As soon as I'm done with this, I'm going to go sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" in her ear. And do some finger drumming on the ironing board.
Loudly.
She won't understand why, but then, neither did I. 😂🐈⬛🥰
Later, y'all,

Good morning!
Melanie- Happy Birthday! Sorry about the filly. I don't miss the late night/early morning foal births in winter. My MIL bred Paints and American Bashkir Curlies. I had a quarter horse. I just didn't have the time to ride. She ended up selling all about 15yrs ago. It got to be too much. One of the Curlies lives/lived in Alaska.
Ginny- Welcome Finn!
I started this earlier this weekend and never posted. Oops!
Childhood- reading, dancing, performing shows to music for whomever would watch, Barbie, walking.
MRI- My neurologist wanted one as a baseline for my migraines. Insurance continued to say no multiple times. I really would like to see their medical degrees.... In the meantime, I am thankful for the medical professionals that keep this body going. Regular cardiologist says I am doing great. I see them again in 6 months then switch to her yearly and electrical heart doctor yearly each 6 moths apart.
Didn't get done that I wanted, but did get this project done 😀
Both recent projects.
Grandson with his mom - my youngest daughter
My oldest granddaughter with her baby brother- lol! Homecoming weekend.
More later. Must get to work.
Hugs!
Love!
Congratulations!

Routine steps to keep a refrigerator working longer. Once or twice a year clean the coils. When I bought a new frig for son's house one thing I researched was how easy it was to clean the coils.
Another thing that helps is to make sure you do not block the vents in the freezer. by keeping those clear it helps the refrigerator work better and not overheat.
Keep temperature above 50 degrees where you have it. Unheated garage in cold climate will not work for a self defrosting frig.
If doing renovations if possible turn off and clear area well before turning back on.
I think part of why son's frig did not last long 5 years is the house had major renovations before he moved in. The temp got below 50 when the heat went out. I was not able to clean the coils on that one without major difficulty.
I was able to buy a basic frig with no bells and whistles for a reasonable price in this day and age. Because I went with black instead of stainless steel I saved another $100. I actually prefer the look of the black compared to the steel.

Feeling a bit better today. Thanks to Lisa and Tracey for your advice. I have been on thyroid meds since my 30s but my levels definitely go up and down. Seems to vary with stress. Had blood work done last week and speaking with nurse practitioner tomorrow. Also been on HRT but she ended up increasing my estrogen too much. Had a full blown period after years in menopause. So then had to have an ultrasound to make sure there were no issues. Have only been on progesterone the last couple of months. Will also be discussing returning to estrogen. I just want to get all this sorted to start feeling a little more like myself.
Volleyball practice tonight. Have lots to work on after last week's game.
Pam- wholeheartedly agree. I have had what I will call an eating disorder for over 40 years as there is no way my relationship with food is normal. It has also been my biggest, best kept secret. Until here. Somehow feel it's a pretty safe place.
Lisa- the bingeing advice is spot on. Now to just do it. The word terrifying describes it perfectly. I did LOL over your description of Egg singing the song of her people 🤣
Debbie- your days sounded full but fun as a kid. My husband often says city kids don't understand chores. I grew up in the city so although different I still had them- ironing, cutting the grass, washing vehicles, cleaning, some cooking. It's important for kids to have some responsibilities.
Michele- what a good second chance you gave that cat. A life that so many abused ones never get.
Get well soon Tumble 🐶❤️

It sounds like several of us are battling aches and pains these days. I think my activity outside the past few days caught up with me - that and the damp weather.
Positive benefits of Infrared Light rabbit hole…
Have you heard of the benefits of infrared light? You've probably seen the red light face masks and different lighting fixtures a person can get. Sounds like there's plenty of scientific proof that it's beneficial in many ways.
I've been following Dr. Roger Seheult on YouTube (also MedCram.com)who has accumulated research on the topic of infrared light - how good it is for our overall health. He has several podcasts and I think I've mentioned him on here before. Topics like today's LED light bulbs don't cut it like the old incandescent lights did. Our super energy efficient windows block out infrared. And our health may be suffering for it.
I watched an interesting video by Seheult this morning about the infrared light available outdoors. 14 minutes. A fun watch if you are interested:
See Infrared Light with Your Own Eyes and Testing Situations
Incandescent light bulbs for table lamps are nearly impossible to find these days. There are LED grow lights that claim to be full spectrum - not sure if that's truly the case, will continue to see what I can find. I have a couple grow light bulbs that theoretically are producing a lot of light in the red spectrum in a couple of my lamps right now.
IN other news, Rosie (15# schnauzer) has been scratching her sides and licking her paws for the past couple weeks. I had a 90 day flea tablet from the vet stashed away, so gave that to her last week even though I didn't see any fleas. I know in some cases, just one needs to wander through her hair to give symptoms. I see bunnies in the back yard scratching so I guess it's possible one or two jumped on Rosie. Anyhow, she's still scratching and licking.
And a new thing - now she doesn't want to eat her $$ dog kibble anymore. Not even if I mix salmon with it! It's from the same bag I've been feeding her from. She eats treats, pieces of apple, veggies and people food just fine. 😣 Hand feeding her baked salmon - yum. What have I created, lol?? I'm thawing out some cooked chicken tenders I had in the freezer for Miss Picky.
I'd like to give her 5 mg of cetirizine but wanted to talk to the vet first, and also get her in for an exam. Vet is closed today for some reason.
That's what's happening here this morning. It's spitting a little rain. I'm getting out as much as I can to soak in the infrared.😁

Yesterday was able to chat on the phone with my Navy friend in Connecticut. We have known each other since 1988. We were friends in Japan 1986-88. Haven't seen each other since then. We call each other every month though. She having such a rough time, with having to move from apartment, her health issues, I am just sad for her. She is about 280 lbs so I know its all health related. She does not cook her food, as her apartment is a refurbished old home, split into units so her kitchen is far from a real kitchen. She has no actual cabinets in her kitchen, just a DIY nightmare. Her landlords from h3ll just raised her rent by $300! Its just a one room, one bath. Lots of illegal things going on, with her landlords not fixing things, things not up to code, then thus rent hike! I tell her all the things she needs to do, and she says she's done all the paperwork reporting them etc. I silently say my prayers, grateful that I have a roof over my head, my health getting better, and hope her life improves.
Chatted with my middle sister. She seems to be doing well. Her boyfriend works at Costco cooking the barbecued food etc, so he had brought a pan of barbecued chicken. He is married, with a sick wife and disabled daughter, and now cares for my sister, bringing her her groceries, meals from a restaurant, or food from his work. Its a weird thing, but no judgement here. I pretty much talked about my sons, what they're up to. I had sent a text to her younger daughter, (my niece) about Zepbound because my sister had said she was interested. I didn't hear anything back. My sister yesterday said that I didn't need to tell her about Zepbound because she wasn't interested. It was my sister that told me to talk to her about it! She said I don't remember. Aaack! Her many meds she's on plus her (occasional) alcohol have taken a toll on her memory.
Husband wanted to go to Applebee's yesterday, so we went at 4:30 pm. I ordered a Stella beer but I drank half. I ordered parmesan shrimp and an 8 oz sirloin. I had all the shrimp, a couple bites of the garlic mashed potatoes, and a couple bites of the zucchini squash side, too mushy. The steak was good, and ate maybe 5 squares of that, like 3 oz. Today having the steak cut up and put in a salad with taco salad fixings. Dinner is parmesan zucchini tots, with chicken nuggets and a protein shake. I had a kind of rough night processing the steak and rich food, but totally manageable. My body was definitely processing, no constipation though not the other side of the spectrum issue. I was grateful!

Michele I was read about a woman who bought an old purse to store her used doggie bags til she got home. The story had a funny ending as some bright spark decided to steal aforementioned purse! I still giggle at the thought of this idiot opening up his bag of “treasure!” Anyway, that’s something you could try.
Debbie it sounds like your hubby is starting to destress from the abuse his mother heaped on him. I sincerely hope the healing continues, I think you will both benefit! Hope your mom goes ahead with the MRI.
So many other comments I’ve made mentally! I am thinking of all of you, hoping medical issues for you and yours get resolved and that everything works out for the best!
At the beginning of this year, I had wanted to lose about 25 lbs. Here we are at the end of September, only 43 lbs to go! And how I wish that was a typo! Not sure why I’ve had such a tough time of it this year, just don’t seem to be motivated at all. Gave up my gym membership this spring, I wasn’t going anyway so decided to save myself some money, and a bit of guilt over spending the money and not going. I have done some walking and bike riding over the summer and do plan on checking out the local seniors centre, they have a ton of classes that sound good. Hoping I might meet some like minded people there too, I need another walking buddy. My current walking buddy flees south to Mexico for a few months every year and it is just way too easy to skip the workout! I do seem to be feeling slightly more motivated lately and have also managed to curb my cookie habit a bit, nowhere near perfect yet, but baby steps!
Hugs for all those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!
