Random stuff over the weekend. Cleaned out the car. Visited mom. Visited in-laws. Got a mani/pedi. That is really about all.

Today is a little more busy. Dog to the vet at 8:00 (he was a good boy). Work 9:00 - 1:00 (weird to take a half day at the beginning and end of the day). Wait for mom's phone to be installed some time between 2:00 & 5:00. Really hoping it's on the early end of that time slot. I'm good visiting mom for an hour, but three hours would be difficult. She is just so negative all of the time. Took her some yarn and crochet hooks Saturday hoping she can pick crochet back up. When I was younger, she could crochet anything. She says she doesn't remember how, but I'm hoping muscle memory will kick in and give her something to do. Will also stop at Walmart on the way there and pick up a bird feeder and some seed. I can hang those outside of her window and maybe she will enjoy bird watching. I know it's hard for her, but the more I spend time with her the more sure I am that she is in the right place for her safety.

Good morning! I hope everyone has a great week! We are going grocery shopping today and have a volleyball game for granddaughter, H, tonight. Hoping we feel good enough to go. We've been missing all the kids' games because of this stupid virus we've had. We are feeling a lot better now, but still really tired by like 4:00…some of that is that we are old, I'm sure, but not all of it. 😏

@HappyDonkey75 Hope you're having a great time in Iceland!

@Bex953172 @mytime6630 @littleblackskirt @clicketykeys @Snowflake1968 Thinking of you today and hoping all is well. ❤️

    Just for Monday

When: In the morning, I will have coffee, make my plan, journal, shower and after showering I will put on my walking shoes, grab a bottle of water and take a short walk before I do anything else.

Didn't have a chance to post JFT yesterday. Last few days have been updating our tech at home, which I'm not fond of. Finally have all back-ups caught up & Windows 11 installed… only took 8 hours for that download & install. Thankfully, hubby stepped in when I was trying to watch Packers v Cowboys game. Can't believe they battled all evening to tie. Oh well, at least the Brewers won their final game of the season for franchise record 97 wins. On with the playoffs!

JFT M 9/29 ~ Beautiful late summer weather!

    • Walked dog 3.69 mi on gorgeous cool, non-humid morning 😁happy dog & happy me / OT exercises
    • Supper frozen pizzas (hubby's idea) / healthy snack / limit sweets / 80 oz water / log all food / net calories zero
    • Sheets & cat mat washed & hanging to dry / grocery shop / complete survey for insurance agency Medicare review / activate debit card / vote in Coolest Thing Made in WI / email aunt / usual M garbage chores / read / digital declutter / other?
    • Choir rehearsal 6:30

WOTY 2025: Judicious ~ I just like the way the word sounds, and the meaning is right for me: having or showing reason and good judgement in making decisions. I can apply this word in so many ways!

Food was way off point yesterday. I grabbed fast food for lunch at 1:00 on the way to mom's. I wasn't sure how long I'd be there. The service window for the phone hook up was 2-5pm, and he arrived at 4:50pm. So I had about 3 hours to stay with mom which is very difficult emotionally. She started asking about going back to her house and I had to tell her repeatedly that she wouldn't be able to go back. Each time she got more anxious. Also for the first time, she didn't know who I was. She asked if I was her sister. I told her I was her daughter and she accepted that. One good thing was they let me take her outside and walk the dog. Previously, we were led to believe she couldn't leave the memory unit even if she was with us. I think this will really help going forward. We can do the bird feeders and such together. I think she'll like that.

Today is a full day at work. Then I need to go to Walmart and get the bird feeder & some wrapping paper for a baby shower gift. One of my employees is due in November, but we are doing a shower tomorrow. A lot of times on Tuesday we go to music bingo, but I think I'd just like to stay home.

Can't believe this is the last day of September… Tomorrow I can start decorating for Halloween/Fall. I don't have much decor for outside. I gave the wreath my daughter made me for her door in the memory care facility to help her find her room. I think I have another fall wreath, and I have some lovely interior things. Of course, they are in the garage storage bins… They may never be seen again.

@PackerFanInGB - Hello ! yes I am back from Iceland. Got back home Saturday . Thank you for thinking of me. It was spectacular. I am desperately behind on so many things , including catching up on things here. I had to step right into work yesterday and I am still feeling the effects of the exhaustion from the trip , jet lag and the day I was flying home I felt myself starting to get ill. By the time I landed, it was obvious I had some kind of virus (chills, body aches, tired, sore throat and congestion). I have pretty much been sleeping every chance I get since being home. I haven't tested for Covid but suspect that could be it. I was around SOO MANY people and places its no surprise I caught something. I am just glad it didn't happen during the trip.

So .. Iceland.. well what can I say. It was magnificent. Waterfalls by the thousands, lava fields, grassy plains, mountains, rivers, glaciers (and very up close, we did a glacier walk and got to hike around on the largest glacier in Iceland which was thrilling and terrifying all at the same time) floating smaller pieces of glaciers that had broken off the larger glacier and floating in a lagoon. They were a beautiful blue color. We walked on rugged black sand beaches, caves, craters, lave formed rock formations (some areas were featured in the movie that were incredible, more waterfalls (did I mention the vast amount of waterfalls??) We only saw northern lights from the plan when we first flew in but that was ok by me, since I often see Lady A dancing in the winters from home. Fun fact- Multiple movies have donefilming in Iceland due to its varied landscape, including Game of Thrones (and we got the see the beach rock formations that were featured) star trek, James bond films, and the Walter Mitty show. (great feel good movie if you haven't seen it) We visited the building that was featured as the bar where he met the helicopter pilot scene. We tried our best to get to the town he skateboarded into but the road conditions were awful with ice and 3-4 inches of snow on the road on a huge mountain pass. We had to turn around and go back. In all honestly we never should have tried to make it to begin with but it was a big highlight of the trip. We were both disappointed. I will try to upload a few photos when I get a chance to catch my breath.

The sort of good news is that I didn't gain any weight while gone, which was solely due to experiencing major gastrointestinal issues the entire time. I think it had to have been the water or the dairy or both. Not to share TMI , but nothing stayed with me for more than a half hour …I cut back to nothing on the dairy and still had issues . I ate all the bread and even some pastries but nothing stopped up the plumbing sufficiently. Normally when I travel its the other issue. It was very inconvenient, let me tell you..😕

Once I get over this virus I need to get back on my fitness routine because I feel like I have lost alot of strength. Its sort of driving me crazy that I have to wait a bit longer to get back into the gym but I feel so crummy. I have been sleeping as much as possible when not working. I will try to walk a bit on the treadmill today but I can't do anything with exertion because my lungs hurt.

Glad to be home, It was hard coming home and not getting the usual greetings from my doggo that I lost before this trip. I missed him terribly and thought of him all the time even on the trip. Our other old lady dog is still with us , thankfully. I was so worried something would happen while I was gone.

Hope everyone is doing well, i will try to catch up on a few posts this week as time permits…

@HappyDonkey75 I’m sorry you had the GI issues, but I have to say it sounds like an absolutely AMAZING trip otherwise! Game of Thrones had the most spectacular scenery! I can’t even imagine seeing all the wonderful things you saw. I’m so happy for you, but I’m so jealous at the same time! Tim and I are still getting over the viral crud and it’s been weeks…not so much “sick” still but just feel so fatigued still. Could be Covid I suppose, but they don’t treat it any different than influenza or anything else, so I didn’t get tested either. Glad you had a fabulous trip and that you’re home safe. I always took a few extra vacation days to get my feet underneath me when I returned from a trip when I was working. I’ll bet you are feeling exhausted! 😳❤️

@pridesabtch That had to be tough to have your mom not recognize you. Sounds like you absolutely made the right decision for her safety. So nice you can take her and the dog out for walks and I love the bird feeder idea outside her window. It’s really nice they let her bring her dog when she moved in. I didn’t think pets were allowed in memory care facilities. You did a really good thing for your mom, although it’s very difficult for you to do I am sure.

I didn’t get all my stuff done yesterday, but I did get the things done that were top priority so I’m good with that. Today’s another day! I have oncology appointment and treatment today, and then hopefully we will get done in time to go to grandson’s football game. He’s in middle school so their games start earlier than high school. I sure hope everything goes smooth today so we can get there by half time at least.

    Have a nice day friends!

@PackerFanInGB I hope your treatment goes well and you can make it to the football game!

Most memory care facilities do not allow pets, but this one said they would try it on a trial basis since mom is so mobile and able to care for Cora. Cora is also a very small dog. I do worry though that mom is not giving her sufficient water, and too much food. Last time I went there was a water bowl, but the 2 times before that there was not. She doesn't remember feeding Cora so she feeds her again. Then when Cora won't eat she gets upset. The dog definitely helps the adjustment, but I'm afraid it won't be long term. The plan was for Cora to live with my aunt if mom couldn't have her, but if I keep her I can take her to visit. I really don't want another dog. Especially a small dog when my black lab is a clumsy dope…

Its October 1st. Its one of my favorite months of the entire year.

A minute to Reflect- little sad/depressing so feel free to skip and scroll on.. I just needed to get some thoughts out of my head.

I think September went really well if I am looking at my weight alone. I did mostly maintain in spite of a lot of derailments in my life starting out with a huge hit and losing my soul dog. It is still hitting me hard. I still can't talk about him without tears. There is a huge hole he left in our lives and heart. I can't believe its a month today we had to say goodbye.. so unexpectedly and so fast from time of learning his illness to watching him get so painful in spite of heavy medication (3 days) that we had to make the final humane decision. In my mind he seemed to go from totally normal to gone. When I look back I know there were signs but I mistakenly thought he was just slowing down since he was 13. He never seemed like he was in pain, never lost his appetite, never refused to go for his walk or lose his never-ending eagerness to play fetch. I just hate that I misread the subtle signs like our walks getting slower and he was sleeping more during the day.

The month ended on a high note , with the trip to Iceland…I really did have a great time but I carried my sadness with me knowing when I returned home I could not look forward to my usual exuberant greetings from my boy. He would not be with my husband in the car when I got picked up at the airport. Every rainbow I saw and every dog I came across on my trip, I thought of him. It still all pretty raw and hard on me. Spending time with my other dog doesn't really help as she is mostly in her own world and not the same dog she once was. Sometimes I feel like she may be entering the lingering stage and another difficult decision is looming. I dread that day. I am not sure my heart can take it.

No big plans in October other than just trying to get my workout routine dialed back in as I feel like a total turd, but I am really sick right now so I am just trying to rest as much as I can and plan for when I feel better. Might need to actually go into the doctor because I think this virus may be turning into Bronchitis. I have no voice and my lungs are killing me.

@PackerFanInGB and @pridesabtch - thank you both ! Honestly this is the first real vacation I have taken since last October.. and probably the last one for a bit . I saved for a year for it ! Getting off the farm for that long is REALLY HARD but the hubby did a great job managing it all.

    @PackerFanInGB

I wanted to take a few extra days once home but I used up every last bit of vacation hours I had for it.This virus is definitely kicking me in the butt. Feel like a steaming pile of poo right now. Might ave to go into Urgent care

I am hoping your treatment is going well for you and you can get out to enjoy some nice fall weather.

@pridesabtch - I am glad to hear you mom is now safe in a facility and gets to keep her dog. Hopefully this will bring you and your family some ease from the all the worry and stress. I am sorry she didn't recognize you , I know that has to be hard.

    JFT Tuesday

    • Let dogs out and feed them ✔️
    • Work/meeting at 7:30am ✔️
    • Meetings✔️
    • Lunch - PB&J❌
    • Log food❌
    • Stay green (weigh in tomorrow)❓️
    • More meetings / Audits ➖ Audit was rescheduled

    • Home by 6:00✔️
    • Clean up a little❌
    • Wrap gifts❌
    • Dinner at home✔️
    • Shower❌
    • Bed early❌

Yesterday was a total bust, goal-wise. I did make it to Walmart to get wrapping paper and a bird feeder, but I didn't get the gifts wrapped last night. I brought the stuff to work with me and hope I get it wrapped before the 1:00pm surprise baby shower.

Food was way off yesterday. I skipped lunch and was ravenous by the time I got home so I ate leftover pizza. It wasn't even good, but I was terribly hungry. I'd like to say I only ate 2 slices, but 1 of the slices was the size of 2, so it was more like 3. Needless to say my weigh in today did not show much change.

Feel that I should visit mom today since I didn't go yesterday. I try to go every day or 2, at least 3 times a week. That is what I did before, but because this is a cleaner place I tend to stay longer. That is especially true now that I know she can go outside if I'm there. We can walk the dog and hang the bird feeder by her window. That said, even if I only stay an hour, it is a minimum of a 2 hour time commitment. I'll probably wait and go tomorrow when I have more time. She seems to be declining rapidly. I'm not sure if it is the lack of engagement (her own doing), the natural progression of the disease or a combination of both. Either way it's sad to see. Even her siblings noticed it. The 2 that live in the US are very communicative with her especially now that she has a phone, but the conversations can be tough. Last night I guess she was asking about her mom and my uncle had to tell her that she had passed. He is worried he traumatized her. Truth is she won't remember today.

Anyway, tonight is trivia. I'm not really feeling it, but I always have fun once I get there. Hopefully I'll get home in time to separate the laundry and start a load before I go. Work shirts are getting low.

    Y'all have a great day!

    Nikki

WOTY 2025: Judicious ~ I just like the way the word sounds, and the meaning is right for me: having or showing reason and good judgement in making decisions. I can apply this word in so many ways!

    • Home and start laundry❌ Went to visit mom instead
    • Trivia✔️
    • Home work on laundry ❌
    • Shower ❌
    • Bed early-ish ❌

Schedule changed when my youngest called me yesterday afternoon. Her meds shipped to the house, and she's too busy over the next few weeks to come get them. Mom to the rescue. I'm booked this Friday through next week, but I can go up today after work and deliver them. That however meant I needed to visit mom yesterday instead of today, and that no laundry would get done Wednesday. (Hopefully hubby will do some tonight.).

Visit with mom was very sad. She is just so confused by everything. She still isn't wearing her own clothes. The nurses don't know if she is going into people's rooms or getting them from the laundry room. Nobody seems too concerned by it other than me. She also still packs her things and takes her pictures off the walls daily. I need to remove the totes and see if that helps. Who knows if it will. I did take her and Cora outside for a walk yesterday. Pretty sure that is the most normal thing she gets to do. I only stayed about 30 minutes instead of an hour because I was supposed to meet people for dinner/trivia at 7:00pm and I was mentally very raw. Besides, she usually naps after dinner.

Got to trivia right on time, 7:00 on the dot. We did really well and were leading up until the final question. We got the final right, but the team didn't wager enough points to guarantee the win, so we were in a 3 way tie for the win. Tie breaker question was hard, it was to guess the total population of Poland, Greenland and some other country combined. Closest wins… We guessed 42,000,126 which was actually the closest. Unfortunately the number the captain turned in was 42,126 which waws way off. Damn. Oh well…

Today is work, and meetings. I wasn't feeling social today so I attended the first 3 meetings virtually instead of in person. I'll get through the day. Go home let the dogs out then drive the 2.5 hours to take V her meds (and the 2 other packages she has at the house). I'll offer to take her and her friends to dinner, but more than likely I will see her for a few minutes then head home. Five hours in the car tonight barring traffic.

Good morning JFT friends! ☕️😎☀️ It’s going to be hot and sunny today, which I should be happy about but I’m honestly ready for temps in the 60°s. October is my favorite month for baking all things Apple and drinking hot beverages with pumpkin spice creamer. Next week we will get out of the 80°s and soon enough there will be snow so I’d best not complain, right?

Tuesday’s Onco visit went well. Labs were all normal so happy dance! 💃 Dr said all looks good still and I am tolerating treatment well still so no need to change anything at this time. Grandson hurt his ankle in gym class so he didn’t play football that night which was fine since I’m always tired after oncology visits. Yesterday, I had family come to town for a visit so I spent the day at my mom’s and a local family restaurant for lunch. It was a nice visit. I ordered a patty melt and s, which also came with a cup of chicken & dumpling soup. It was a huge burger, so I got a to-go box and only ate the fries and sandwich. Tim ate the other half for dinner last night. I wasn’t hungry so no dinner for me. I’m not used to eating so much grease, but oh my goodness was it ever yummy. My body still feels like it’s rebelling today though…puffy fingers and just feel blah…

Today, hubby is up north at the hunting land setting up deer stands. So I will be turning the tv onto whatever I feel like watching and putting around the house. I like having quiet days like this once in awhile. I hope you all have a great day!

@HappyDonkey75 My heart goes out to you for your loss. Honestly, when I even think about saying goodbye to my Maddie, I cry. She’s the first dog I’ve been home with all the time and formed such an intense bond with. I’ve loved all my dogs, don’t mean to sound like I didn’t…but she’s just different. I’m sending you hugs and I hope you can feel them.
your photos of Iceland are stunning! Thank you for sharing! Just gorgeous scenery! I hope you start feeling better soon. I had to go to Urgent Care a few weeks ago because of the tightness in my lungs and cough. I did have a virus that turned to bronchitis. They put me on prednisone and an inhaler. Take care of yourself.

@pridesabtch were you able to hang the bird feeder for your mom? Dementia is such a cruel disease. We just lost my SIL to Alzheimer’s. It was devastating to all who loved her. I’m sending you hugs, friend. Have a safe trip to your daughter’s! You’re such a good mom! 🥰

When: In the morning, I will have coffee, make my plan, journal, shower and after showering I will put on my walking shoes, grab a bottle of water and take a short walk before I do anything else.
