JFT Thursday (The days have been slow, but the week seems to be going by quickly)

    • Work by 8:00βœ”οΈ
    • Meetings until 11:30 βœ”οΈ
    • PB&J for lunch βœ”οΈ
    • Check in with MFP βœ”οΈ
    • "What Do You Think" meetings βœ”οΈ
    • Home by 4:30 βœ”οΈ
    • Drive to Kent βœ”οΈ
    • Eat dinner with kids or in the car βœ”οΈ
    • Drive home βœ”οΈ
    • Pack for the weekend trip ❌
    • Shower ❌
    • Crash βœ”οΈ

The trip to Kent went well. V was very appreciative. I got to meet and have dinner with V's bestie who I've heard about for 2 years now. I made it home around 10:30, and I was soooo very tired. I pretty much went straight to be. Of course hubby had reflux last night and kept me up with his constant tossing and sitting up and going to get water. At 4:30 he finally went to sleep in the recliner and I got some sleep. Needless to say, I'm a bit slow today. No matter, I'm one of the few people here on Friday, and I have a project I dread that I will get started. It's really a project for the admin, but she is worthless. I assigned it to her in March and it still isn't done so I had it reassigned to me. I'd rather just do it myself and make sure it gets done by year end.

We are driving to Pittsburgh after work today. I don't think we are meeting any one this evening so it will be a low key hotel dinner most likely. Tomorrow is a full day. Octoberfest with friends during the day, them we will go watch Sierra's BF play hockey that evening. I still need to pack, but hubby did laundry so it should be a quick thing. I think we have plans Sunday, but I'm not sure what they are. Then we'll drive home, pick the pups up from the kennel and relax a bit.

    JFT Friday

    • Up by 6:30 to shower ❌ Nope wore a ball cap and called it good
    • Work by 8:00 βœ”οΈ
    • Check in with operations
    • Check in with MFP βœ”οΈ
    • Start document project
    • PB&J for lunch
    • Work on documents some more
    • Home by 4:30
    • Pack
    • Leave
    • Crash at hotel

@PackersFanInGB unfortunately I ran out of time to hang the bird feeder Wednesday. I may try to go Sunday after we get home. If I hang it at the end of the visit that may be easiest. That way I don't scare mom when I'm lurking outside of her window.

@pridesabtch that sounds like a fun weekend ahead. Enjoy!

Speaking of bird feeders, I have to get mine in, including the hummer feeders. The forecast is predicting snow of all things this weekend but I think it will likely stay above the valley floor elevation , atleast I hope so. We have a number of "get ready for winter" tasks to start ticking off the list . The hubby already started filling the wood crib in the house and then behind the shop. That is sort of depressing. I really dread winter anymore.

My parents are getting ready to head back to Arizona and with me being so sick all week since I returned from my trip, I haven't been able to help my mom pack. And her packing is always a HUGE process. She can't do it alone because she is so disabled . She tries to do what she can on her own but then she gets overwhelmed and upset. She was on the phone crying a few days ago when I last spoke to her. I am still without a voice and coughing so I really don't feel well enough to go over , nor do I want to risk exposing them to whatever this is. She understands that I am sick and can't come right now, but I know she is waiting for me to come and help. I wish there was someone else who could step but there isn't. They were supposed to leave this weekend but I think they are holding off now because of this.

Its our anniversary weekend. 23 years. hard to believe. There have been plenty of up and downs over those 23 years but I think we are on a decent path these days and I am grateful for our relationship in spite of our struggles from time to time . My parents have been married for 60 years and they have always fought and argued my entire upbringing. They never learned how to communicate well other than to yell and scream at each other. I don't know why they stayed married to be honest.I love them both but my dad is a bully. My mom manipulates and often acts like she is stuck at being 15 years old at times , emotionally atleast. And its getting worse as they age.

    JFT

    • Today is an flex day , even though I just got back from vacation. My boss was fine with me taking it as regularly scheduled, especially since I have been so sick.
    • Might just go get an IV Immune boosters bag on board to help me recover
    • Laundry
    • Rest
    • Log on to my CC accounts and pay off the trip balance . I am sort of dreading this and the hit to savings it going to cause but honestly I saved a year for it. I am just not a spender so I feel guilty at some level for spending all that I have on this trip. I know, crazy.. but I am also the girl that bought a new truck a few years ago and wouldn't drive it hardly at all because I felt like it was too fancy for me. Like I didn't deserve it, ( it was the first time I ever bought a NEW vehicle in my life, always bought used and economical previously) I guess I am weird.
    • Eat- my scale keeps going down because I haven't been eating well since being so sick.

@pridesabtch That will be a fun weekend. Enjoy!

@HappyDonkey75 Hope you feel better soon! Congrats on your anniversary. Can't believe you have snow in the forecast already. Meanwhile, we may break records with highs today through the weekend in the mid 80s. But Mon. we will finally have the fall cool down. From shorts & t-shirts to jeans & jackets in one day. I'm actually looking forward to the change, I love the different seasons. And I hate having the AC on at night in order to sleep. I'll finally be able to open windows again.

Recap 10/2 R ~ Another summer-like day & got out early to walk dog… I'll be glad I can walk her whenever once the cool autumn air returns.

    • Walked dog 3.88 mi & crossed paths with K walking Bogie so had a chat before moving on (Bogie even laid down in the road, he knows the drill LOL) 😁 happy me & happy dog / OT exercises 😁
    • Leftovers for supper / healthy snacks ~ when I got home after 9, ate last of baba ganoush & too many multigrain crackers / limit sweets (hope no one brings any to class tonight) ~ ignored the treats but ate peanut M&Ms when I got home / 80 oz water ~ 64 (didn't drink during class bc I didn't want to use bathroom, then too late) / log all food / net calories zero 😐️ close I think
    • Nagged hubby into painting 2nd coat on door frame LOL ~ to give him credit, he did empty dishwasher & (attempt) to put things away, something he very rarely does / read chapter in lesson book / bring clean laundry upstairs & put away ~ all but 1 small pile, done today / call Mom ❀️ 40 min.! / read really need to get new lamps for family room / digital declutter / other? voted in Coolest Thing Made in WI (nominations down to 16 & brackets now), washed dishes (mostly pots & pans), filled gallon jug from rain barrel, scheduled MC cc pmt & downloaded txns 😁 ta-da!
    • Bible study group 7:00 😁 2 had excuses & 1 no-show but still very good discussions & I'm getting to know members lots better

JFT 10/2 F ~ Too warm when I got up to walk dog far.

    • Walked dog to park, hubby too 😁 1.24 mi happy dog & happy me / OT exercises
    • Pasta with spinach for supper (carbs) / healthy snacks / limit sweets (no M&Ms today) / 80 oz water / log all food / net calories
    • Put away clean dishes / pick up race packet downtown in afternoon / prep clothes for 5K event / prep farmers market bags for after race, glad both events are downtown / read / digital declutter / vote in Coolest Thing brackets / set alarm for 6:20 a.m. (race is 8 a.m., have to drive downtown, park & walk to start on time this year bc last year I cut it very close) / other?

Happy Friday! Yesterday was kind of a bust. Still dragging azz from whatever this virus Tim and I had. He said he is finally feeling better and he actually got sick a week before I did, so maybe I'll start feeling better soon too. One can only hope, right?

@cschmitz110515 I agree with you on our temps! Crazy! 80's this weekend? It's October! I love the change of the seasons too…I'm usually excited at the beginning of each one but then ready for the next one about halfway through… Hoping to get Tim to take me for a ride up north or to Door County to look at the leaves next week. So pretty! (I'm fighting the urge to turn on the a/c this weekend…I just hate the WPS bill that goes with it, but I planned to bake today so I'm guessing the air will get turned on.)

@HappyDonkey75 I hope you feel better soon! I had bronchitis with the cough and tight chest too and I stayed away from my mom for a couple weeks. I know my mother didn't like it, but she's in her 80's and I don't want to be responsible for getting her sick! I totally understand the "stuck at 15 years old" thing too…ugh.

@pridesabtch Have a wonderful weekend! Sounds like a blast. I get tired just reading all the things you have on your plate. lol

@PackerFanInGB - that's interesting you also see the revert to child like behavior in a parent. I'm not sure if its an age related thing or just part of her personality that I never realized before. Its frustrating at times because I can never lean on her for good mom life advice. In all honesty, she has never been great at that but now its even worse. She just dismisses everything and turns the conversation around to either a different subject or talks about her issues.

    JFT

Still not feeling well so I am going to go back into Urgent care today and try to get someone to give me antibiotics. I know how this bronchitis thing goes for me, I can never seem get over it on my own when I have had it in the past, and always need antibiotics , so I am guessing it usually goes bacterial. I am so run down from coughing all night and not sleeping well. Still hardly able to speak and my lungs /chest hurt.

Probably need to get over to my parents to help them as they are leaving for AZ on Tuesday now. I really don't feel great but my mom is waiting for me to help and keep sending me messages about how overwhelmed she is and now her legs are swollen because she's having to stand so much. She literally has been packing for a month . But she packs something and then unpacks it and repacks it repeatedly. Then gets overwhelmed and has a mess. As she has gotten older her OCD has gotten worse and everything becomes a huge ordeal.

I some how skipped a day. Yesterday I had no time because we went on a short road trip with some friends to go to a corn maze in the country and we started really early. I did pretty well calorie-wise eating out, but the salt in restaurant food always kills me. Immediately up 3-4 lbs the next day. Oh well, I can't eat at home all the time. I know what it is and that it will go back down, but it still "psych's" me out. Primitive brain: I'm going to gain back all my weight!!! Oh no!!!

On the other hand, I did 5 miles just in the corn maze! It was difficult.

Happy Sunday! I’m keeping the same goals today since I didn’t get off my butt and do them yesterday. It’s going to be 82Β° today with 20-30 mph winds, so the breeze will be nice. I’m hoping to keep the windows open today and not need AC. Beginning tomorrow, it’ll be in the 60’s which is normal October weather for NE Wisconsin. I’m so ready for it! Pumpkin Spice creamer and sweatshirts….😊

@HappyDonkey75 I hope you feel better soon! I had to go to Urgent Care for my bronchitis. I’m still dragging from it.

Yesterday's 5K race went well. I woke even before my early alarm & realized it's still dark at that time! I don't miss getting up even earlier to walk dog before work back in the day. I parked in downtown ramp at 7:25 a.m. Had plenty of time to lace my car key in my shoe, go down 4 flights of stairs & walk to the convention center to use the indoor toilets, then walk around to the back of the building for the race start. Even had time to try taking photos with the new phone.

The race conditions were "moderate" due to the very warm temps and the "noticeable humidity" according to my new weather widget LOL. Glad I had opportunities for shade most of the way. Finished in 51:31, 16/19 in F65-69, 279 out of 341 overall, ave. pace 16:35 but my last mile was 15:33 (I always have slow starts & build my speed). Enjoyed the post-race refreshments, including complimentary beer, on the boardwalk along the river.

Then went to the nearby farmers market and stocked up on fresh fish, bread, eggs, honey & lots of produce for the coming week. Bumped into very good friends & chatted. P's hubby couldn't believe my 2 full tote bags of food, told him this is my grocery shop, not so much at the store. As usual, I walked along the river trail back to my car, and gave encouragement to the half-marathoners that were running the other way & nearing the finish. A very good morning. Followed by a very good Brewers NLDC game. After that, I was toast.

JFT 10/5 Sunday ~ Last really hot day before fall weather arrives tomorrow. Packers bye week & no Brewers playoff game until tomorrow. I'll still find things to do.

    • Realized yesterday I forgot month end measurements so took those this morning / logged on MFP πŸ˜€ starting to improve with minor dietary changes & happy me
    • Church 9:00 😁
    • Planned rest day / min. 5000 steps / OT exercises
    • Don't want to use stove or oven, so leftovers for supper / healthy snacks / limit sweets / 80 oz water / log all food / net calories zero
    • Download race certificate / water outdoor pots / water houseplants / record this summer's flowers/herbs in notebook (reference for next year) / call Mom / read / digital declutter / other?

@@cschmitz110515-awesome job and while I don't know much about what makes a good pace, that seemed alot faster than what I could do! What a wonderful day overall..

@more_freggies76 - your comment about the primitive brain thing.. I 100% relate to that. For a long time on this weight loss journey I have been on now for over a year, I would nearly have a panic attack if we had to meet someone to go to dinner with. I much prefer to not eat out anymore, even if my dinner is just a bowl of protein oatmeal. I have the same issue with salt and restaurant foods. It destroys me.

@PackerFanInGB this bronchitis is no joke… 13 days now since I started getting sick. I have thrown the kitchen sink at it trying to get better, including colloidal silver. Yesterday I had planned to go back to Urgent care but I hate doctors , so I will find every excuse to avoid them. In my process of getting ready to go, which I was dreading, I remembered I had been given a script for my eye a few weeks back for antibiotics that I never ended up needing ( I had a horrible sty that the doc thought might be getting infected)I found the bottle and called my sister who's an RN and asked her if that type of antibiotic might help for my bronchitis and she said yes it was a good broad spectrum version. She said it can't hurt. So I started it yesterday. She thought I should start to fee better after 2-3 days on it if its going to work. I know, its self- medicating but what have I got to lose other than an expensive medical visit at this point where they will run a bunch of expensive diagnostics. My lungs remain clear but I can't stop coughing. The other symptom is just feeling completely run down. I am going to call and make an appt with my primary as opposed to going back to urgent care. I feel like she will atleast be able to provide a better experience.

    JFT

Its Monday, I have a heavy meeting schedule today so need to power through all that

Walk on my treadmill a little

Drinks lots of fluids, and vitamin C

    Rest when I can

Had a really nice weekend in Pittsburgh, though I did pull a muscle in my back. At least that is the assumption. Ibuprofen is effective so it isn't anything awful.

Friday we drove up to Pittsburgh. That night we had no set plans so we tried a local restaurant that specializes in grilled cheese. I love me a good grilled cheese. And I tried a strawberry cider that was refreshing though too sweet to drink many. Slept in Saturday then met folks at Oktoberfest at noon. Tried a Kolsh bier and a blackberry cider. Both were quite good. I'm not a big sour kraut fan so I passed up the perogies and bratwurst, but the strudel was excellent. We got a ton of steps in that day. Went back to the hotel around 5:00, had a light dinner and took a nice nap then got up to go meet Sierra and watch a college hockey game. The game didn't start until 8:30, but the BF had an assist and a goal so all were happy. It was difficult to get an uber back into the city at 11:00pm, but we finally did. I totally crashed when I hit the room. Back was a little iffy that night so I didn't sleep well, but I didn't actually get up until 10:00am. We got ready and headed home. Picked up the pups (Merlin got another note in his file so he has to go to the Brat Pack from now on. Its about 5 miles further from work than the regular day care. He won't be going as often…). Tim mowed and I did laundry and napped, then we went out to dinner and watched the last half of the Commanders game and the first half of the Bills game.

I slept on the couch last night to support my back, and for the first time we let Merlin sleep outside of the kennel. He seemed to have a hard time getting comfortable, but I think he enjoyed the freedom.

The first half of today has been fairly busy at work, but time goes faster that way. Not sure if we are doing anything this evening, but we may.

Hour commitment - I won't eat again until after 5 pm. None of the same foods at dinner as at lunch. Can still have my dose of metamusal.

Thanks for the comments on my 5K last Saturday. My goal in a 5K is always to finish in less than 50 minutes, and I have done in the past, but I am definitely slowing down as I get older. Granted, the race conditions were not ideal with warmth & humidity. Racers even got an email the day before, because they obviously monitor the weather. We were told to slow down!, adjust expectations, optimize pre-race hydration, listen to our bodies, and not shoot for a PB (personal best). I definitely did all that. So I was satisfied with my time.

Recap 10/5 Sunday ~ Last really hot day before fall weather arrives tomorrow.

5000 steps 😁/ OT exercises 😁 tech problems not allowing me to see video in app & uninstall/reinstall not helping
    • Don't want to use stove or oven, so leftovers for supper / healthy snacks ~ peanuts (weighed) / limit sweets ~ very small choc bar from race / 80 oz water ~ 64 / log all food / net calories zero πŸ˜‘ not quite but not horrible
    • Download race certificate / water outdoor pots / water houseplants / record this summer's flowers/herbs in notebook (reference for next year) / call Mom ❀️/ read / digital declutter / other? vote in Coolest Thing, put tools away since repairs are done 😁 ta-da!

JFT 10/6 M ~ Weather has certainly done an about face! From record highs in upper 80s to 58F right now. Rain overnight and off/on today. Skipping dog walk.

    • Min. 5000 steps / OT exercises
    • Lunch with IA mgmt team (minus 2) ~ had bowl of chili & shared in someone's fries as side, not too bad / healthy snacks / limit sweets / lemonpepper whitefish, beets & either couscous or rice side for supper / log all food (best guess) / net calories zero
    • Usual M garbage chores / vote in Coolest Thing / contact app support for OT exercises / wash dishes / read / digital declutter / Cubs v Brewers NLDC game 8:08 / other?

WOTY 2025: Judicious ~ I just like the way the word sounds, and the meaning is right for me: having or showing reason and good judgement in making decisions. I can apply this word in so many ways!

    • Visit Mom βœ”οΈ
    • Home or trivia by 7:00 βœ”οΈ
    • Shower βœ”οΈ
    • Bed by 10:00βœ”οΈ Laid down about 9:00 but took a while to doze off.

Yesterday was okay, but visiting mom is getting harder. She just doesn't function well, and constantly asks why she is there (Your memory has slipped enough that it is not safe for you to live alone.), why she can't go outside alone (They are afraid you will get lost.) and when she gets to leave (I think this is your new normal, and we need to adjust.). I am honest but kind in my responses. I don't know what else to do. She also play on my emotions, by telling me how afraid she is, but that was true at her house before. Though I'm sad for her, it isn't something that will change. Her sister is coming to visit her around noon today, and I am picking her up for a pointless doctor appointment at 3:00ish. Pointless because it is just a follow up from her hospital visit, and there is nothing wrong with her currently. In my opinion this could be a phone call. If she will stay away from her dog long enough, I will take her to dinner at Bob Evans. It's simple and she likes it there.

After that, I have to meet the auctioneer at mom's place to arrange for her personal property to be auctioned off. Did you know if the auction house comes and loads your stuff to sell, they take 45% of the profit. It's 35% if you haul it there yourself, but the extra 10% is worth not having the hassle or expense. Once that is done, I will list the house for "sale by owner". I really don't know what I'm doing, but the housing market is very favorable towards sellers right now. It's a small older home with 2BR 1Bath place. I plan on listing it about 10% below appraisal to try and move it quickly. While I'm there I will clean up a little more and take the trash out.

That will be most of my day today. If I can get done in time, I may go play pool or Music Bingo. Tournament & Bingo both start at 7:30.
