Eating healthy vs. eating unhealthy

I have a question... if a person eats somewhat unhealthy, but still stays in their calorie amount will they still lose weight? For example, if a person doesn't exactly eat the healthiest one day, but stays within 1200 calories for the day, will they still lose weight? My husband is curious.

    i think so. I used to know a girl who ate candy all day and was super skinny but seriously unhealthy. Also keep in mind the bad stuff doesnt keep hunger at bay like the high fiber, high protein opts so eventually he will crave more of bad to feed the hunger and gain weight. I think once in awhile is fine but hey...I have just started this so who knows.

    I dont think so because there are many factors to consider one being sodium which will make you retain water.:drinker:

    i asked this same thing and i got both yes and no

    those that said yes had the argument that a calorie is a calorie. it doesn't matter where it comes from. the problem with this is that if you don't eat healthy, 1200 calories does not get you very far at all

    those that said no use the argument that your body will only burn calories if it get the necessary macromolecules.

    so in short, i don't know:blushing:

    My friends do it all the time, and they are thin. They are not healthy and I don't know if it will last.

    I believe so.

    My brother eats junk. One meal a day and is very skinny.He breaks all the rules lol. I thought it was genetic for a long time untill I tracked all his cals and activity ..Turns out that in general he eats just at maintance. its junk but its maintance so he doenst gain.

    BTW about the sodium...I eat lots of sodium, way over the reccomended amount and yes it causes bloating but I am still losing weight: :) I

    I believe you will still lose weight (or remain thin), but you'll "pay for it" when you're 60! :sad:

    yes, you will still lose weight but without getting the right nutrients for your body to run at its best, you won't be as healthy or feel as good as if you eat mostly healthy things.

    I agree. You may still lose but it is just not a good plan.

    Yes. You can. I lost my first 25 pounds on junk. I mean fast food, twix and soda. It took me a a good three months to transform my daily diet. I did it one meal at a time. But like others said you may not get the proper nutrients. Try and take a good multivitamin until such a time as you can complete the transition from unhealthy to healthy eating. But focus on making the transition.

    I have a degree in wellness, and yes a calorie is a calorie. Losing weight means a math equation (burn more calories than you take in). That's it! BUT, not getting enough nutrients from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will over time deteriorate your body!!!!!! Plus you will feel horrible all the time. Trust me on this, not a good idea.

    ok so if u know your stuff let me ask you the ? I asked earlier. I am trying to get feedback. If I am req to eat 1200 cal daily and I eat 1200 and excercise burning 600 and then eat say another 300 of my burned cal should I leave the other 300 alone if I am not hungry? I am thinking that will lose weight faster and i am burning more than I eat. other wise I am really eating 1800 cal and what is the point of excercising?

    its interesting and I think most of you are right in saying that you will be thin, but not healthy and there's a difference for sure. :laugh:
