Happy Birthday Mo!! 🍵
Heather - sounds like you are having a lot of fun. Lovely artwork as usual. 🤩 John looks dapper indeed. I'd love to be with you on the Pompeii lecture.
Melanie - how was the calf sale? Have fun at the twin's birthday party. I could be wrong, but in your climate, and the type of work that is often done in extreme temperature ranges, people seem to be made of tough stuff and barring accidents, live into a ripe old age.
Debbie - hope sale the goes well and you come back empty handed.
Have a great weekend everyone!

I’m going to start with a HAPPY BIRTHDAY MO! I hope you have a wonderful year!
blob:https://community.myfitnesspal.com/f0994bc6-c731-448a-ba4f-5f3605adbb64Lisa- Ha! Maybe he was trying not to wear out his Hokas! I should have bought stocks in them I have gone through so many pairs over the years. DH calls them my moon shoes. My current stock:
My feet aren’t in great shape. My big toes are fused to my feet because of the arthritis that developed from getting stepped on by cows and working in cold weather. These are really the only brand that are comfortable and allow me to walk as far as I want.
Lanette- beef prices are so high because of the shrinking of the mother cow herd in North America. Mother cow numbers are the lowest they have been since the 60s. People just don’t want to calve out cows anymore, combined with drought in many areas, has led to this drop in supply. We are finally seeing some profit at the farm gate which may bring some people back in but it’s a slow growth. Unlike pigs or chicken where the generational turn around time is short, it takes 2 years for a heifer to go from birth to giving birth.
Your question about a companion made me think. If I was left without a husband, I think I would try to make more female friends. I don’t have any really close female friends like I did in college and I really miss that. I really enjoy female companionship. I do have my kids to lean on as we are all together on the ranch. I keep telling them that once I get old they will be responsible for keeping me in the lifestyle I am accustomed to. I get 🙄 back.Machka- good running shoes, as evidenced by the above picture, are my splurge as well. Awesome ride! I am slowly increasing my time on the bike to get me to that 40K I will be doing next summer.
Heather- another fantastic painting! You are very talented.
Going to get a 30 minute walk in before the 2 hour drive into the city for the twins 90th birthday.
Take care of yourselves 💕

Barbie - Annie sure likes making your tasks more difficult.
Machka - they upgraded my computer to Windows 11 while I was away, it’s been a struggle this week figuring some things out while also trying to get caught up.
Lisa - I love the lampshades. What a great use.
I really need some naps! I’m so played out. My two weeks off feel like forever ago already.Heather - I hope you’re able to keep dancing the whole cruise.
Happy Birthday to John.
Your paintings are wonderful.Melanie - sorry about the loss of your animals. I think your birthday gift ideas are bang on.
Thank you for the info on beef prices.Allie - I hope this is the back end of your medical issues for quite some time.
I don’t think hospitals should be allowed to charge for parking.Lanette - At this point in time I don’t trust anyone whatsoever. The only couple that I would are not willing to be involved with her daughter and grandchildren. That is the problem, no one wants to deal with them. It’s not her that causes the problems.
Kaitlyn came over last night, we had a nice visit. This afternoon we are going to Kaitlyn’s. It wasn’t part of my weekend plans but Mom wants to go. She also wants to go buy a bra.
Tomorrow we’ll have to stay home. I’m tired.Tracey in Edmonton

Tracey - feeling for you. 💞 I can't imagine.
Just about to go down to dinner. John is wearing his new sweater. We sang 'Waterloo' in the choir today. Huge fun. The women had the harmony. 🙄
Tomorrow we are in Madeira. Funchal is the capital. I have a scenic coach tour, with tasting of local treats, and John has a hike along the 'levadas', the ancient irrigation channels. Early start!! We have been before, for ten days, before we were married. I'll see how much energy I have left for a possible stroll around town in the afternoon. I seem to need a nap most days!
Cast showtime this evening. Cuban music.

Hi Friends. I'm waaay behind in reading all the posts. But I want to jump in here and echo Heather's sentiments about retirement. My path went through years of caregiving for DH, giving up a career I loved long before it made financial sense, getting a part time job in music and sports which helped with grief over losing DH and DB, and then ultimately meeting a wonderful guy while working that job! N and I just spent 13 days together at my place and on the road. I have a few extra pounds to whittle off, but every morsel and sip was worth it. Life is blissful. I thought I had a positive attitude till I met this man who doesn't just see the cup as half full, but always full and overflowing. He faces every day and every situation with cheer and gratitude. I am a very lucky lady!
Latest adventure took us on a road trip through Southern Colorado mountain passes where the aspens were in full color. We saw jaw dropping sunsets. Soaked in Durango Hot Springs. We visited Great Sand Dunes and Mesa Verde National Parks, where the access to best sights was limited but still special. We also enjoyed the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque and Paul McCartney in concert. Paul, my favorite Beatle, and lifelong crush, is still adorable. Then we spent time at my little condo, where Mars the Leash Loving Cat stuck to him like velcro. (I'm trying to add photos, but it's not working from my phone…sorry) Our approach for each of the 4 "dates" we have each year is "if it isn't fun, we don't do it". No set date for next get-together. He is going to golf in Hawaii next month to complete his goal of golfing in all 50 states. I'll be heading to Morocco a month from today!
Stay well, friends. Find what's light and bright in your world and spread the joy. Hugs and wellness to you all.

Down 1 lb, 7 lbs until Onederland! I kind of am in countdown mode, like its New Years.😁💖
My eldest sister is in Las Vegas, visiting with our cousin. Her grandfather and our maternal grandfather were brothers. They came over from Norway. My cousins grandfather had the best parties! He had an accordion, all inlaid with pearl, it was a sight to see. He also was crafty (he was a carpenter as well as my grandfather). He had on a table a stagecoach all made with matchsticks! It was huge, but I remember being so careful as I "just looked" at it. No touching! My cousin and husband are great travelers, and have stayed at my sisters place, and I went down on the train.

Happy, happy birthday Mo. Hope it is a grand one.
Allie - glad you are home. Take care of yourself.
I am by myself today. The guys went to Archie McPhee's in the city and are meeting a friend in Edmond afterwards. I don't expect them back before 5 pm. I have used the time to clean my kitchen and laundry room floor so I could put down the new rugs I bought last week. I used a gift card I had for most of the cost of the rugs. They were sorely needed as the cats had snagged the others badly.
Rori - sounds like you had a wonderful time with N.
Heather - glad you are enjoying your cruise. Lovely paintings.
Lanette - do you have a Chromebook? How do you like it?
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Had a nice chat with my lifelong friend from Connecticut. Her life is still a struggle but I hope that for a time when we talk, she forgets all that. For some of my friends I have self labeled myself "their happy distraction". We all need distractions sometimes.
Today was an apple, chicken, celery salad mixture. It was so filling! My stomach gurgled a long time having conversations with me! Tonight is some zucchini tots and chicken nuggets. Sipping on my 17 oz tea looking at a rainy gray day!

Barbara – these are the bolts that hold the porch/deck to the house. They have to be sure the bolts are COMPLETELY thru the brick(and the leader board) before they can put the rest of the bolt together. Otherwise, the roof would collapse. Personally, I’d rather they cut the ceiling than have a roof cave-in….lol
Mo – you’re right, we ARE friends on FB. Me bad
Annie – how scary that incident with your father must have been! I hope he’s better
kylia – thanks so much for letting us know about Allie
Boo …. having to wear my vest at work.
Went to ceramics the other night and got my Raggedy Ann
The other day did a 20/40/60 workout. For those who don’t know, you recover (walk) for 60 seconds, go at a fast walk/jog for 40seconds, then run for 20 seconds. I usually do this on the treadmill since it is easy to change the speeds
Rita – I almost forgot about my Halloween earrings. Thanks for reminding me
Allie – you’ll get better so much faster the sooner you get home. So glad to hear that things went well and you’re on the road to recovery. I’d be more than ticked if that happened to me
Mo- happy happy birthday
Rori – your posts bring such a smile to my face. Everything is
going so wonderfully for you, I’m so happy

Lanette & Melanie, I've thought about this too … especially given that my husband is 12 years older than me.
I don't mind the idea of living alone and have done it for several years in the past - living alone would be my first choice. If I'm still working, I have entertained the idea of selling the house and going into an apartment in the city so that I could walk everywhere I want to go.
But if I were to have a roommate, I think I'd go with another older lady, like me.
I get along well with and relate to men and most of my friends, acquaintances, colleagues etc. over the years have been men. I've been "one of the boys" since I was very little. I find them easier to talk to and hang out with than women. But I don't know that I'd want to live with a man again.

Good morning my friends!
Thanks, my Dad has been fine since his fall. I really think it was dehydration. I've been pushing more liquid. And I think liquid other than water might be better. He dumps the water in the sink, but he won't waste milk. His latest quirk is that he has gotten really bad at shaving and has this weird patchy scruff.
So my uncle died yesterday. He was 98, had been in the hospital for a week with kidneys failing, then came home on hospice. He stopped eating and drinking. He was miserable with itching from the morphine. So it wasn't a surprise. I'm glad he didn't linger but he had time to say goodbye.
He was a lovely man with a huge heart. Never met a stranger. It was such a blessing to know him.
So I bought some meatloaf for my Aunt, but my cousin said to keep it for later. I want to visit, but it didn't seem like the right time, especially since I would have to bring Dad. Maybe I will see my Aunt at church this morning. He died at 1:30 in the morning, so they must have been up all night before. Things should be a little less frantic today.
I asked Google about what to say. It's so awkward when the religious views don't match. But I guess sharing memories is appropriate, and offering help.
Anyway, I need to try to sleep some more. Thanks for listening, my friends!
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Sorry about your uncle.

Rori - Your time, both with and without N, sounds wonderful. So glad you've found this space in your life that is yours alone. I think loving our alone time simply helps us enjoy the time with someone else that much more.
Mo - Happy belated birthday, darlin'. Hope it was good.
Heather - Sounds like you're having a blast on your cruise - loving the watercolors.
Pip - Loving the colors in the new paint job, and the floor too.
Annie - I'm so sorry about your uncle, but it sounds like a life well-lived, and surrounded with love as he passed. Hard to ask for much more than that.
Allie - Glad you're home - those parking fees are just whack.
Rebecca - You all have the same smile in that picture, but wow, it really shows how much weight you've lost, looking at how far you've come since that image!
Tracey - Thanks for the comment on the lampshades. I was pleased with them. The thing with your lovely little mother-in-law is adding an awful lot of stress to your life. Hope you can make it all work out for the best. I know you're trying to make sure she's OK, don't forget to take care of yourself, too.
First chilly morning came in faster than they said, we're well down in the 40s this morning (5-10c). The weekdays will get up around 21-25 C (70s F)… really lovely weather. Got enough rain yesterday that we won't have to water before the rain comes back in Thursday night. Did have to flip the heat on this morning, though.
The contemplation of the loss of husbands is something I did regularly with the ex-husband. Dreamed once a month or so of burying him and going to live with my mother and have a bunch of cats (he was allergic). However, I'm nine years older than Corey, so am assuming he will outlive me. Which leaves me thinking more of my own demise. I'm kind of oriented around numbers, and just realized this week that I'm at least 2/3 finished with my life, and possibly 3/4 of the way done, at 65. My mother died at 72, my father at 78. The thought of it didn't shake me exactly, but it does find me thinking more about a lot of things. I could have as little seven years left or as much as 30. Not mourning or dreading. Just thinking.
Yesterday, I watched a video on making a reverse bucket list - adding to it the things you've already done. I think I would add a second section, titled "What I'm Happy that I'm Never Going to Do." Like skydiving, for instance. No reason to walk off a perfectly good plane that I can think of.
Time to ferry a cup of coffee in to the man. Three more days with him at home! We went on an impromptu drive exploring some of the nearby small towns, really enjoyed it yesterday. So glad to be back where I can do spur of the moment again.
Later, y'all,
Love,

welll….. he got a call, the delivery people lost our carpet. It was supposed to be coming from Los Angeles, but now they don’t know where it’s at. The manufacturer is in Georgia so he couldn’t call because of the time difference. Ughh… so no Monday

Sorry about your uncle Annie. But what that a long life like that has experienced!
The 90th birthday for my MILs twin sisters was fun. They both looked amazing. The one that was supposed to be on deaths door looked so good. Nice colour in her face and she was wheeling around with her walker like nobody’s business! They were even wearing matching outfits 🙂
Came home in the dark and decided to drive around as no one had been around all day. Two cows standing on my son’s lawn looking at us like “What?!”. Had a gate close by and luckily they ran right back in to where they were supposed to be. Now to figure out where they got out. They have too much time to find holes in the fence.
Going swimming at noon. Hoping it will improve my mood. It’s a weird feeling. Like I can’t get grounded 🤷🏻♀️
Take care of yourselves 💕
