Lisa, I am sorry that your daughter is not talking things out with you. In time, she will be able to take the mature route; if not, she will likely pass this behavior on to her children. Enjoy your projects, and I feel it isn't safe to do the trick-or-treat thing. I am glad that we have trunk or treat. I am working tonight, so I hope they do not disturb Rose.

Getting ready for my week away. Looking forward to getting to the mountains. I ski raced growing up and lived in Banff my senior year of high school so I could train daily. I am now a prairie dweller and can no longer ski because of my knee replacement, but going back brings good memories.
My sister and I will do a lot of biking and walking and talking which I am really looking forward to. No meals to make, took the week off work, only have to think about what I want to do next. This is the sister I am closest with. This is us at my daughter's wedding last year. I am on the right. When she saw my sunglasses she asked when I would be piloting next.
I'll head to Calgary in the morning, spend the night at her place, then we pick up my niece's partner at the airport and head to their place in Fernie, BC. Not sure how long we'll stay. Will then go back to Calgary to spend a day or two with my dad before heading home.
So today will be tying up loose ends at work, laundry, packing, and then a few trick or treat stops tonight with my DGSs. The one year old is dressed as a monkey- I costume I had gotten his older brother when he was that age. Will try to get a picture of it tonight.Lanette- that's a Jack for you! They are a handful. And no…. he won't learn from this deer attack. Just not in their DNA!
Take care of yourselves 💕

Hi Ladies,
Carla – sending hugs
Tracy – I am so impressed with all you are doing for you MIL and glad to hear that you are recording her stories. That family history makes history so real. You are certainly paying it forward!
Lisa – can’t wait to see the next fridge painting project. I love that this has become your rotating canvas. I am sorry to hear your daughter has reacted the way she has – I find text to be one of the easiest forms of communication to be mis understood in.
Kylia – sorry to hear about Kenny, will the shop be able to find another mechanic?
Mo – I am sad that it is not safe in your area to trick or treat, we will have trick or treaters here and lots of the houses in my neighborhood have decorated. I love seeing all the costumes and in the 32 years I have lived here I have had older kids, even the occasional adult but never any problems. A couple of years a few of us adults would hand out candy until 8:30 then grab a glass and go trick or drinking….
I have waited as long as I can and next Tuesday, I have an appointment to get a new prescription for my glasses. I have not had the right prescription since surgery, but my eyes have changed so much as the swelling in my brain has gone down that the doctors have wanted me to wait, but things have gotten so much better that I decided to just get the appointment… I am excited.
Carol – love your little mouse sneaking in to say hi

Great picture Melanie!
Following my own advice today…Cutting back what I planned to do today…Tired from getting caught up and raking 8 bags of leaves yesterday…
Happy Halloween…Went to this on Wednesday night with my cousin. They asked if I wanted to take my coat off but I said it looks like the coat the actress wears on high potential. It is perfect for the weather we are having now. As I said it was on clearance and I bought it for 15 dollars. I picked tax evasion because it is tempting with our high property and other taxes. They had other choices for the mug shot!
The tee shirt I have on says Uffda! I bought it in Swedesberg. A small town museum on the way to St. Louis. Sometimes I feel that way.

I understand how you feel- I lost my best friend 25 yrs ago this next month. She passed suddenly from a blood clot/heart attack. I had thought about calling her the day before she passed but told myself I would do it the next day when we could really chat. Her husband would be at work(it was a Sunday when I was thinking of calling her but put it off) and he liked to listen in on our calls. Instead of me calling Laurie the next morning, before I even got out of bed, my other best friend called to tell me Laurie had passed away. She was 38yrs old, leaving three young kids. We were best friends starting the day I met her, the first day of 5th grade. We did everything together, including same major is college, same career .
Because of this- I tell people, If you think about calling/texting some one DO IT- don't put it off. You never know if you will get another chance.

I feel like I am helping my son right now. He has been calling me almost daily and is sounding much better. I hope it holds. I sent him a care package for the first time ever so do not feel this is enabling. I do not and will not send him money or pay his bills. I paid his phone while he was in rehab, but since he has now sold it, I canceled the plan for that, his watch, and the ipad that all came with the phone last December. As far as helping with the scholarships, the Case Worker at the facility he is at will only help him get in a half-way house not sober houses. They will not help with scholarships. Of all the rehab places he has been in this year, this is the only one where they will not help him with scholarships. This is the only reason I am helping him with this. He seems to really appreciate it. I am glad he is staying where he is right now, though it is not the best place. I hope/think he realizes what doing drugs and being an alcoholic has done to him. He needs to really buckle down and work on this. In his case, it is genetic, like some type 2 diabetics and it is very difficult to control it.
Speaking of type 2 diabetics and genetics, my grandfather on my mother's side, my father, AND my mother were/are all type 2 diabetics in their elder years. With that in mind and my insurance's insistence, I get my A1C checked every 3 months. Unfortunately, it has been going up the last few years from a low of 5.4 to now a 6.1 on Jardiance. I have an appointment with my GP next week and will speak about this. I am concerned but feel like it is inevitable and will keep rising until I reach the full on diabetic range. The combination of CKD and liver issues will cause this. I see my Renal doc in a couple of months and will talk to them about this too.
Lucy is still getting me to walk her 3 times a day, sometimes more which is good for me in a lot of ways. She is still learning things and makes me laugh. She had a stick in her mouth that was a little long and got under her right leg. She was prancing around with the stick in her mouth holding up her leg and she was running on 3 legs. So funny! A camper saw her and had to stop, open her window and say how cute she looked while laughing the whole time!
Thought for Today:
Did you hear about the evil hen?
It lays deviled eggs.

Terri … I love the Autumn poem … captures my thoughts exactly.
Mo … my husband and I have no choice but to settle right now with the mattress. It was $4000 and until it sinks more, the company won't honor any warranty. I was sleeping ok in it, but it has started to cause my back to ache. I think it won't be long until we make another call.
Tracey … I am so glad that your MIL is with you. How is your husband handling all of this?
Kylia … sorry your mechanic has passed.
Ginny … the high school reference! I have watched this childish behavior in every facility that my mom has resided in. My mother will have no part in it.
Melanie … great photo of you and your sister!
Kim … yay for getting new glasses! Hope you find something stylish that you love and that your vision is improved.
We will not get many trick-or-treaters tonight. Just a few that I know are coming and they will get large pre-made bags of candy. We live on a county road with no sidewalks so no one really lets their kids walk on the side berms. (Although my husband and older son used to brave it years ago … with my son in a wheelchair no less! LOL! We were tougher then.) It's been raining and we have some pretty significant wind speeds right now. That doesn't help either.
Have a safe and fun evening.

My daughter reached out to me (on text again) so there's that. Said what she had to say. At least she's talking, or at least what her generation sees as "talking," and I told her thanks for letting me know, and that I was proud of her for being able to say it.
I know she's been thinking about this since the weekend (it was a LONG text), and that her very level-headed husband is part of her response, so there's that, too. She just didn't get the answer she thought she would get from me in the original exchange, and it made her mad. But I never agreed to the box she wanted to keep me in, I'm afraid. She has had and will always get unconditional love from me, but that doesn't necessarily mean unconditional approval. I've only had her for 16 years, she'll figure out that no matter how mad she gets at me, I'm not leaving.
Lanette - I actually attempted those 60 degree diamonds in crochet and decided I'd rather make it in fabric. In crochet, they're kind of nauseating to make, as you have to go round and round in quite small spaces to begin with. And do it three times for every block? No can do.
Terri - I loved the poem, very evocative.
Melanie - Love that photo, your smiles are nearly identical! Two lovely ladies.
Mo - Thank you, dear heart. I'm hoping that every time she gets mad at me and I don't leave or get mad back at her helps her mature a little more. She had a tough start, with a bio mom that was both bi-polar and a drug addict. She'll figure me out eventually - her husband came with bonus kids, too.
Heather - Glad the boiler replacement went swimmingly! Definitely cheap at the price.
Kim - Well worth getting the glasses!
Well… I got about 15 minutes in on the elliptical and got my shoulder exercises done… and while I was in between the painting and the afghan, got this curtain set made out of a shower curtain - just split it down the middle and hemmed both sides, then created a curtain rod pocket down the top. It was $3 at the thrift store, and 100% cotton.
Couldn't resist it!
Later, my dears,
Love,
