@Teresa502 good luck on your race! Lol I usually do a 32k trail race Dec 20, winter solstice! but this year I'm going to volunteer at the aid station instead. Giving back this year after last year's race shenanigans when I cut my finger wide open in the race (crash and drip like crazy, survival and wilderness first aid training came in handy after I forgot to pack my usual FA kit, remember to also look where the poles are going, those tungsten tips are sharp!) and 3 band aids later, the aid station crew were a mighty help. Might eye a few other local races though most of them are run in the dark!

    01.11 6.4km 49min 7:45/km - slow
    02.11 strength
    03.11 3.0km 22min 7:25/km - fast
    05.11 6.5km 49min 7:36/km - slow

    15.9/41km - 7.6km ahead

Excellent 4 miles run at perfect, nearly wind still and slightly fresh weather. Daytime temperature was 17C today, which is crazy for November, but it was lovely after sunset.

Started Week 9 of C25k, nothing special to report though I need to stretch my IT band more. Feeling it around my right knee.

I have a similar issue @nossmf though mine is before a run. My body is highly trained to run at it's lowest weight so I take a supply of paper as portapotties can run short. 🙄

Great running @kgirlhart . Sounds like great weather for the HM.

    Nice running @tarun_yadavA , @daria0919 , @yirara , @TheMrWobbly , and @Mari33a .

Sorry your run was cold and not the best @WarmJellyfish . At least you got out and ran some of it.

@nossmf You're doing great. I hope your knee is okay.

@Teresa502 It was pretty chilly this morning. Great running. I'm not doing a HM anytime soon. I'm just starting the plan to see how it goes and try to be ready next Dec for the run in TX. (I've already forgot the name of the race. Yikes.) Since I'm not going to do the 10 miler in FL this year, I'll look into the one at Davy Crocket. I've run it a couple of years in the past. I'll let you know for sure. )

    1 Nov - Walked 0.50 miles - Ran 2.60 miles - Driveway and road
    2 Nov - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Treadmill
    3 Nov - Walked 0.60 miles - Ran 2.50 miles - Treadmill
    4 Nov - Walked 0.60 miles - Ran 2.50 miles - Treadmill
    5 Nov - Walked 1.25 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Driveway

    12.55/80 miles goal

Today was scheduled to be a cross training day. I didn't have a lot of time, so did a walk on the driveway this afternoon.

Matt Fitzgerald suggests an inclined treadmill walk for cross training, but he doesn't say what the intensity or duration should be. Does anyone know what is best? I was also thinking about maybe doing my Nordic Track cross county ski machine some and counting the mileage I rack up on that. I don't know. Knowing me, I probably won't stick with the exact plan anyway, so it won't matter. Just wondering out loud (on paper). 😂

    November Goal: 140 miles

    11/2: 6.25 miles
    11/4: 3.32 miles
    11/5: 6.04 miles

    15.61/140 miles completed for November

Today my plan called for 6 mile interval run. That was the last speed work before Saturday. Tomorrow should be an easy 3 mile run and Friday will be a rest day. So far, it still looks like the weather should be good on Saturday. If anything, it may be a little warm.

    @Stingray101 welcome!

@quilteryoyo the how huffy bit is usually a good gauge for intensity settings

@kgirlhart good luck for the race!

Wed evening session was supposed to be a redux of Tues vo2max session since I flunked that. Didn't happen. Was a warmer night at +3c! Was already quite dark at 5.30pm. Where's everyone gone from the riverfront? Just could not get up to speed and breathing was effed. Tried to do the vo2 sprints but flunked again. Twigged the right hip in the process. I think it could be the new statin meds. It's supposed to have myalgia as a side effect. Going to stop that for a bit to see if things improve. Meanwhile am hobbling on, tylenol is my friend…

Pretty lights in the dark tho, empty pathways

@quilteryoyo I am not following any one plan in particular as I know mentally I would give up once I am 'off plan' if I had one plan to follow.

So instead I try and modify general advice from established sources such as Runners World the Running Channel etc, to fit with some short & medium term goals, giving myself lots of small targets so I get the sense of progress. I even modified C25k to help make it easier for the way I think.

When I've given up in the past, I think having too many hard runs has caused injury/fatigue /demotivation (as well as my other excuses) & I've read quite a lot recently about 80/20 easy runs & Heart Zones, so I think its next on the big list of things that I could do better.

Edit: jeez this response is long, brevity is not my friend today.

After a long winded ramble from me about HR Zones that has probably bored everyone to tears, I realised my watch was on 2% when I got on the treadmill this morning so no HR run for me today.

Instead I did my hard run for the week (this is either, some incline, intervals or I just peg it as fast as I can)

Went for option number 3, result 5km: A new post-pandemic pace.

    3/17 runs 20km/110km

Any talk about running whether it be HR zones, training methods, cross-training, scenery, pets, food, etc. makes this group happy! 😄
