@NonnieDoiron I hope the marching orders work. Do remember you're dealing with a teenager…anything could happen! 😕
Thanks @mfowler883 I agree…I had such a hard time getting to Day 1. But, now it's a breeze. At this point in time, I can't even imagine having a drink. I can almost taste the whiskey and club soda (or iced tea in the afternoon) and it sounds disgusting. Well, the iced tea wasn't bad (with a lemon wedge). But I couldn't drink iced tea all day long.

@WestCoastGirl_1 This is my 4th teenager, 3rd with ADHD (1 on the Autism spectrum), and 2nd daughter. She is also the baby. I allow her more freedom to make decisions and negotiate than I did the others, for sure. But, I also have not changed my rules or chores that the children are supposed to do. She just tends to not follow the rules and half-a$$es most chores and her school work like her oldest brother used to do. I’m really quite done with it, and she knows it. I hit this point about every 6 months or so with her. In the past, I’ve sat in her room dictating how she was to do everything and helped along the way. But, she’s 15 now and completely capable of doing it on her own, and she will. Or, she’ll have nothing in her room to make a mess with anymore. She has been warned I have large trash bags, PTO, my work is currently caught up, and I can and will take Monday off to bag and haul off the stuff in her room. She will also lose all phone privileges. If she doesn’t do the work to “pay” for the things she wants, then she doesn’t get to have the things she wants… real life, Baby Girl!

Good morning all. I made it through Friday AF. That’s always a tough one, as is Saturday. Here we go again. 😂
So far this month I’m at 14 AF days and 0 A days. Goal is 5 A days and 25 AF days. Streak is currently 20 AF days.
I need to also look at goals like some have here to simply drink LESS when I do drink, but that may be a challenge for later.
Having this thread and reading of others dealing with similar issues really helps. Have a great Saturday all!7 -
Hi everyone,
11/15: 015 AF days completed since 10/31/25! (Last alcoholic beverage: 10/30/25.) Here's my 2-week milestone:
WOW, @WestCoastGirl_1! You're on a roll! Congratulations on winning big again!
Best to all who are hanging in there!
Have a great weekend!

Yet another crazy week that’s gotten away from me. Monday promised severe snow storms. We got very little, but I was ready. Wednesday is now G-Ma and Julian day as I get to take him to his Karate class. He’s got his green belt and just got another stripe on it. Thursday I drove down to take my sister to the doctor for pre opt appointments. She finally has a date and has been cleared for surgery! It will be Tuesday 11/18.
Yesterday, I was babysitting at my son's and DIL's house. So let me get this off my chest as I would never say anything to them… André does not have his own bed. Well, he does, but it’s a queen-size waiting on him to turn 5. They have the concept of the “family “ bed. The same was kind of true with Julian, but he did have a crib that he never slept in. While this idea is obviously ok for some…the kid never learns to go to sleep on his own. I had André cry/scream in my arms for 45 minutes until he wore himself out. Even my apple watch screamed about being in a loud environment!!!
Once he fell asleep, all I could do was put him down in the middle of their queen-size bed with no rails or guards to protect him….and then sit in the dark in their bedroom in a little rocking chair that I hoped I wouldn't break. Julian wanted a story read, but I couldn't due to André. I felt so bad for Julian. I asked him if André cries every night before bed and he said "every single night". Once I got André to sleep, prior to laying him down, I did manage to read to Julian. Man, I must be getting old and honery!!! Ok, vent over!
On another note, Lola is 12.6 pounds!!! She finished all her shots today so we are safe to venture out for a walk. Well sort of..apparently there are lots of hawks in our area!
@StepWise123 ~ kudos on your progress. I enjoy wine but I noticed as of late, the better quality of wine (usually more expensive) I am satisfied with less. I'm going to continue to pay attention to this discovery.
@NonnieDoiron ~ I see 100+ count for now…. Excellent, you should be proud! What a great idea on the pillow from a t-shirt. I have a TON of t-shirts…many I've never worn. I've seen people make quilts..might entertain that idea, but that means I need a sewing machine :) I'm thinking it might be fun and something I actually finish!
@WestCoastGirl_1 ~ You are doing an amazing job. You are well on your way. I'm glad it finally clicked for you. Congrats to you! Nice win at the casino X 2!! WOW! You've got everything going in the positive for you!!
@Walela617 Yes, keep it going Carole!! Congrats on the positive review and increase!
@BurnMode05 ~ Good luck on the reset.
@globalhiker ~ interesting mind games…the same thing happens with general tracking….see a little wiggle room and want to fill it in. I've thought about tying drink allowances to weight loss targets……. I have too much to lose to say when I get to the end…but perhaps in 5 or 10lb increments….still thinking.
@GGinCA ~ you are killing it!!
Congrats on all the progress in November and today marks the halfway point!
I'm bringing back my LA counter in the thread but will still count as A on the spreadsheet (LA is two glasses of wine or less).
A=9

@itladyee I know you love your G-ma time, as I do! Honestly, I get your frustration about the “family bed.” My daughter followed that theory and it was hard too.
We didn’t do that with our babies - it was a time we just put them down in their own cribs! After a calm rock a bye baby song with their favorite bottle of course - and they were still well loved and happy.5 -
Saturday check-in….I am at my quota for the week - 6 glasses of Prosecco and 3 small glasses of wine. I’m claiming AF for tonight!
May you have the best day!5 -
@NonnieDoiron I understand your frustration. I'm sure she will clean her room this weekend (she really has no choice 😉). And, I know what you are saying about doing things half-*kitten*. It's like "You can make me do it, but I don't have to do it good". The funny thing is that It's so much easier to pick up everyday than spending an entire weekend working. Somebody I know, and I won't mention names, tends to be lazy at times. He gets things done, but he doesn't take the time to do things right. Like they say, if you want something done right, do it yourself! I once told him, "You work harder trying to get out of work than just doing the work!". Anyways, we'll be waiting for a progress report ~ LOL!

@Walela617 Congrats on your two weeks, Carole! I try to be sensible about gambling. So I'm going to take a couple of weeks off. I may play on 11/26. But, we'll see!
Have a great day!

@itladyee I'm wishing the best for your sister. The surgery is next Tuesday. The whole thing must be stressful.
BTW…I think Lola will be OK if you're walking with her. I don't think a hawk would swoop down if your there.
Have a good day!
2 -
@Michieb125 I admire your resolve!
Have a wonderful day!

@Michieb125 ~ I think happier!! My son used to wake up the next morning with such a big grin on his face. I'm not a morning person but he used to snap me out of my funk instantly!

@itladyee we didn’t do the “family bed” thing either. We kind of co-slept when I was nursing the babies. They started in their cribs, woke up for feeding, the husband would get up to change the diapers and hand them off to me, I would nurse until we both fell asleep. Lol… so kinda co-sleeping. They were in their own rooms since birth though. I think they were happier and more independent.
@WestCoastGirl_1, The girl child is doing well on the marching orders. She has negotiated some changes as she went, needed some prodding/help to get back to work, took advantage of a typo I made on her schedule (15 min break after only 15 min of cleaning 🤦🏻♀️🤣), and has gotten rid of LOTS of stuff and trash (a big box, 2 lawn bags, and 1 kitchen bag full). I even got a pair of shoes out of the deal!
She did her laundry but still needs to fold and put it away. She also needs to vacuum every inch of her room including under furniture. She needs to go through her dressers to purge the too-small clothes. Tomorrow, she needs to dust the house. It’s a chore she rarely does though it’s hers to do every week.
She has handled it very well, to be honest, has had a good attitude about it. We’re planning a couple little decorating projects so she can show off her art. We did her closet together, and she seemed almost relieved looking at it afterwards seeing it was so less cluttered and messy. I was surprised when I came back in later and her desk and dresser tops looked more purged than they did when we did her closet.
While she’s been doing that, I cleaned the rest of the house and baked bread. Tired.

@NonnieDoiron It sounds like the project was pretty rewarding for her (well, for both of you!). I personally like going through clothes and getting rid of things that no longer fit…but, for me, I'm going to be getting rid of clothes that are too big 😀

Hi, I'm caught up on the four pages I've been missing. I'm always happy to see when good things are happening with your LA plans.
@WestCoastGirl_1, You are amazing! I'm so pleased and relieved to see your streak of AF going strong. I hope you'll be able to keep it going indefinitely, even after those blood tests and doctor's appointments.
@NonnieDoiron, I love the pillow, I need to get my crafting zen restarted. I have a beautiful pair of socks that I started in 2020 right before the pandemic. Instead of knitting, I read dozens of ebooks during lock-down and never picked up the knitting. I'm not a parent, but I taught school for almost 30 years, and the secret to classroom management was always, "Only state those consequences, that I'm prepared to follow through." Kids know when you don't mean it. Your daughter must have sensed or believed that you'd bag up her "stuff," if she didn't deal with it herself. That sounds like good parenting to me. Congratulations on helping her grow up responsibly. And congratulations on avoiding the drinks when you had your guests! Your weight loss and AF streak are worth the discipline.

Thanks @nbruns83!
I’m very happy to report I won’t have to take the day off to purge the girl child’s room. As of this evening, she has gotten everything done! We even took the time to hang her wood art (some carvings she made on the machine in digital art class… I think they were learning to use a laser engraver or something). She’s very proud of it. I have a HUGE bag of donations in my trunk to drop in the bins up the road. She even made her bed!!! I mean, washed the sheets, hospital corners, and all!! 😳😳 I made her dad go look, and he went in and stared at her carpet then looked at me and said, “I didn’t know she had carpet in this room!” She threw a pillow at him. 🤣🤣
I’m very happy she did it all. Her dad asked how she felt, and she just shrugged her shoulders. I know she doesn’t mind the mess, but I do. Like I said, it’s about an every 6 months thing, so she’s good until May now.😉🤣🤣

Thanks @nbruns83! I guess you're not using the spreadsheet anymore. I thought you were MIA 🙃
@NonnieDoiron I'm glad the project was completed. I hope it's not another six months until she cleans her room again. The way you described it, it seems that she may have enjoyed it. Maybe, she'll surprise you!

A - 0Two more days and I'll tie my streak from August 2024. I had to look back at my calendar. I can't believe that my last decent streak was over a year ago. Besides this current streak, I've only had 17 AF days this year. Pretty sad!

Hi all! Just catching up on about 2 weeks of posts. Sounds like you are all doing great.
@NonnieDoiron so sorry your DH’s cancer came back. I hope they can treat it quickly and thoroughly.
@WestCoastGirl_1 congratulations on your amazing streak! Wow!
@itlaydee happy happy belated 65th!!!! I hope you enjoyed your celebration. Best of luck to your sister with her surgery tomorrow.
Oh guys, I went way, way off the rails. Last weekend we were in Miami and had an absolutely amazing time. Lots of activities, lots and lots of drinking. I probably averaged 5 drinks per day. Had a glass of wine every night since, and just came home from a conference hosted by my company. My resolve to limit to two drinks per day went right out the window. I had two drinks before I even got on the plane! Another 5 drink day-there is always a cocktail hour before dinner, drinks out after dinner, etc.
So, I feel like absolute hell and got really emotional this weekend because I remember when I had the energy to exercise and get stuff done, and now it’s just gone. Even with HRT, my weight is going up and up and up. My house is a dusty disaster due to a bathroom renovation, I STILL haven’t put all the boat stuff away, and got out of my exercise habit because I had to talk with the contractors every morning (had to cancel my morning workout classes, etc.) I didn’t even track drinks or calories but I know that I am way, way over both. Yesterday we went to brunch, I wasn’t going to drink but of course did anyway. I folded like a cheap suit.So, reset beings today. Off to the gym when I finish my coffee. Then clean a bit, and off to work.
Ugh. Rant over!

@Womona I get this! I am nervous about my trip to HQ in a couple weeks because the drinks flow so easily with my coworkers, and I don’t want to get caught up in it and lose all my forward momentum with my AF streak and weight-loss. Im going to have to be incredibly disciplined, and I’m not sure I can pull it off especially since the husband isn’t coming with me to help keep me honest.
You can get back on track though! You’ve done it before, you can do it again. Break the cycle, friend!

This weekend was definitely a busy busy busy one. My workload has finally eased up a bit, which has given me the chance to catch up on some long-ignored housework. It feels so good to finally tackle those lingering tasks, I didn’t realize how much I needed that sense of progress!
That said, I still struggled to meet my goals for the week. I ended up drinking on two days, both of which were LA days.
On top of everything else, my husband and I got new phones… which turned into a two-day ordeal. Honestly, it was one of the worst upgrade experiences we’ve ever had. Now I’m in the middle of trying to get all my apps, email accounts, and settings back to the way I like them. Change is hard—especially when technology insists on changing everything at once!
AF = 9
A = 7
Going to try and tackle AF this week again, I really hope I'm successful

@Womona Good luck with your reset…you can do it!

It’s great to see you back @Womona! And I’ve got to say Miami is such a fun, warm happening party place that it would be difficult to stay within drinking parameters. For us moderators, sometimes we just need to let our hair down a little. You’ve done so well leading up to it and will jump right back in again.
@BurnMode05 - it’s so crazy how fast technology is moving and we can always find the next generation product in an instant. Then the set up takes the most time, Geesh! I also need to get my housework started right now. Sending you lots of positivity for a great week ahead!
@WestCoastGirl_1 - your stats are outstanding, and I bet you have more energy for the things you want to do!

Two weeks in a row with minimal glasses of wine for me! I haven’t done this in quite awhile and feeling more centered and calm about it. Moving the needle toward even Less! My mindset for the upcoming holiday(s) is to stay consistent with my nutrition, exercise, and LA. There’s no good reason Turkey day or the whole month of December should derail me! I plan to cook delicious food, be present with my adult children and grands and enjoy all the things within reason.
BTW There are some really FUN and crafty mocktail/cocktails on IG for some yummy and (way too sugary) Christmas drinks. I absolutely cannot drink Kool-Aid, or Hawaiian Punch or use sherbet. 😂The Grinches and Santa’s hats with rimmed colored sugars are cute though!
I’m thinking more along the line of a classy glass of cranberry juice, sparkling water, or maybe a splash of NA Prosecco with floating cranberries, or mugs of apple cider and a stick of cinnamon. IDK still thinking. Maybe I will make a pitcher for ease of access and delivery for all the peeps, lol. Obviously thinking out loud!
