LESS Alcohol ~ November 2025 ~ One Day at a Time

Hi everyone,
11/20: 020 AF days completed since 10/31/25! (Last alcoholic beverage: 10/30/25.)
Yesterday was extremely difficult! I had a hard day at work and felt like I deserved a little "consolation". I was also missing some people at certain bars who genuinely seem glad to see me, though who knows? (I'm a good tipper.) Still, I kept thinking about my weight, my blood pressure, my skin, my sleep, the COST (financial and otherwise) as well as my very fragile self-esteem that I'm beginning to build, and I went straight home. I was so relieved when I walked through my door!
Hi @NonnieDoiron, You're so right! This day-to-day weighing is madness! I was 152.6 yesterday, but the scale said 154.4 today, even though I was careful, stayed under calorie limit and walked home! It's enough to drive me nutz! I'm going to follow Donna's advice (@deepwoodslady) and set up an account at trendweight.com which might help.
Have a great day!

Thank you @globalhiker, @NonnieDoiron, and @Womona for your support! I did blow my streak - 18 days for Nov, but 21 days in total. I wish now that I hadn't. But, I guess I needed to find out for myself. I didn't even finish the half-pint (dumped it out), but I woke up with a headache, blood-shot eyes, and just feeling horrible. It's funny how our bodies built up a tolerance. I didn't think a half-pint would affect me that way (I used to drink four times that amount). Anyways, I've learned my lesson. I hope I never drink again. It just isn't worth it.
@NonnieDoiron I'm glad the dog is OK. I always worry because all the vets in our valley are only open normal business hours (closed in the evenings and weekends). The nearest emergency vets are 60 miles to the north and 120 miles to the south. Fortunately, we had very few incidents with our cat, Tinker, and they all happened to be during normal business hours.
Also, I do believe that high cholesterol is hereditary. They used to say not to eat eggs, etc. Then, later, they were saying dietary cholesterol has no effect on cholesterol readings. My cholesterol has always been in the good range. I guess we just have to experiment for ourselves.
@Walela617 Congrats on your 20 day streak. Are you still hanging out at bars while you are working on being AF? I'm not sure if that's a good idea. But, maybe, that's where all of your friends hang out.
Looking good @xbowhunter!
Well, it's back to the drawing board today. I'm sure I won't mess up again. It sucks that I blew my streak though!

(My latest Sober Time milestone!)
Hi, @WestCoastGirl_1, No, I'm not hanging out in bars at all. In fact, the last time I ordered in a restaurant was Thursday, October 30th. I did walk right by them though - including this evening after grocery shopping and before dinner!
Have a nice evening,
💗Carole

@Walela617 Congrats on 20 days AF (going on 21 today). I just reread your previous post. I realize now that you were missing certain people at the bars because you were no longer going to them. Sorry I misunderstood.
I'm back on Day 1! I will post later.
Have a good evening!

@Womona “Adventures with MIL” sounds like a warning to me! That woman drives me bonkers. I’ve promised God instead of thinking mean thoughts about her when she walks in the room I will pray a Hail Mary. God forgive me, but I don’t think I ever stop praying! I thought she needed the oxygen too, but apparently she’s trying to “exercise” so she doesn’t have to rely on it. Unfortunately, her noises are awful. I think she is having “accidents” too. Her room is starting to get a smell we all complain about when we have to walk past her room, but my husband won’t ask her about it. She tries to hide it and do laundry when we’re not around like last night when we were at the church social. Unfortunately, until she feels comfortable doing the laundry, we are stuck with smelling whatever we’re smelling.
Worked until 9:22 tonight on this stupid review. My boss can be a real pain in the butt. She’s a procrastinator and can’t settle on anything which makes for a very bad combination. I don’t think she’s a perfectionist, but she is just never satisfied. She basically let everyone know around 4:00 this afternoon that we were working late whether we wanted to or not. I told her I wouldn’t work past 9:00, but I gave her an extra 22 minutes.
@WestCoastGirl_1 I so glad you didn’t let 1 day hijack your goals! YAY!!

@WestCoastGirl_1 congrats for getting back on track so quickly!!! I will be looking to you as a role model as I get back on track.
@Walela617 congrats on the streak! Very well done you!
@NonnieDoiron hang in there. Late work sessions are a grid and I feel for you.
I feel that I have officially “slipped” as I am now at four A days. My goal is five for the month, so still under, but three of those four have been too much alcohol combined with too much food too. I either do great or terrible and just wish I could find some real balance. It’s my life long struggle.Hope all are heading into a great pre-holiday weekend. Take care.

Hi everyone,
Happy Friday! (I'm off work today; so my weekend starts NOW!)
11/21: 021 AF days completed since 10/31/25! (Last alcoholic beverage: 10/30/25.)
My Fitbit sleep score was 87 for last night! (7h 56m), which is great for me. (I had plenty of deep sleep and REM; so the quality was good.) I truly believe that my abstention is a huge part of my improved sleep. My blood pressure and heart rate have gone down as well, averaging in the one-teens over low 70's with HR averaging low 60's and often just under that at rest.
Today I plan to do some Thanksgiving shopping, where I will once again "run the gauntlet" past several of my former "haunts". I don't anticipate struggling too hard. I hope the sun comes out and the temp goes up to near 50, as the forecast said last night. Now it's saying mostly cloudy and high of 48. (Light wind and no rain, though); so it should be fine.
Stay strong and enjoy your weekend!
💞Carole

Morning my LA friends.
AF - 14
A - 7
Starting weight when I started to cut back on alcohol was 161lbs
My weight today is 148.7. Took forever to break the 150lbs mark but I did it! :)
Will more than likely have some wine this evening with friends so I added it to my alcohol day count.
I can live with drinking one day per week as long as I don't have to work the next day.
Have a splendid weekend everyone!
:)

@GGinCA Your story sounds a bit familiar to mine. For many years, my moderation plan was to drink three non-consecutive days a week (T, Th, Sat). I had been drinking daily for a very long time, so this would have been a great improvement. Sunday would come around, which was supposed to be an AF day. But I would want something to drink. I would tell myself that it was Sunday and the liquor store closed at 5 pm here on Sundays, so I better get something and that I would start on Monday. Monday would come around. Again, I would get something and tell myself that I would start on Wed. Sometimes, it would be towards the end of the month and I would tell myself that I would start on the first of the month. This went on for years.
I had some medical issues a few years ago related to alcohol consumption. I woke up in the middle of the night vomiting blood and then spend five days in the ICU. I was told not to drink again by my doctors. I did pretty good a first. I was scared sober! But, I eventually reverted back to my old ways. At this point, I really don't think any amount of alcohol is safe for me.
Fortunately, the thing that I've experienced is that the more AF days I get, the less I feel like drinking. It feels good to get a good night's sleep, wake up refreshed, and be able to get things done. When I was drinking daily, I got to a point where I rarely left the house (my husband did all the shopping and errands). My balance and coordination were off. I couldn't exercise or walk and normal household chores were difficult. I basically was having problems functioning. Since having my 21 day streak with 1 screw up, I feel back to normal. I'm able to function again and I've been losing weight as a plus.
Keep trying to achieve your goals. We need to find a way to trick our minds when it tells us it is OK to drink when we know it's a planned AF day. But, that's the hard part. For me, it's easier just to quit completely.
Have a good day everyone!

@Walela617 That's encouraging to hear that your BP and heart rate have gone down. Your numbers are in the "Normal" range!
@xbowhunter Congrats on getting under 150! I would love to see that number 🙂

I love your results @xbowhunter and @GGinCA! I definitely feel much better when I don’t drink. I certainly sleep better!
@WestCoastGirl1 congrats on not letting one day derail you!!!!! Way to go. It is amazing how our tolerance goes way, way down when we cut back. Our weight goes down too!
Congrats @Walela617 ! Love your streak! You too @tmbg1 !
@NonnieDoiron oh geez in both your MIL’s accidents and getting stuck working late. Ugh ugh ugh.
I had one planned glass of wine last night, didn’t accept a refill. I’m going to have one drink again this coming Monday , and that’s it. I’m AF this weekend, my body needs it.Happy Friday everyone!

@NonnieDoiron ~ Glad to see the dog is ok! Attention, funny! MIL = Smell….You are a saint!! I don't miss not having a boss!
@WestCoastGirl_1 ~ Glad to see that after 1 day, you're back on track! Progress for sure and congrats on your streak. Now, beat it!! 😁 I was wondering how your body would have tolerated the alcohol after it had been gone from your system. Thanks for sharing.
@Womona ~ As long as it took to get the first date on the calendar, we might be looking at June…. I'm kidding, I hope….I haven't heard a peep, so I reached out today to request a date in early January. We/I was mentally ready to get this all wrapped up before the holidays so we will just push to the new year.
@Walela617 ~ Way to stay strong! I was going to shop today for Thanksgiving too….but…there's still time to procrastinate!
Brighter days ahead!🌟

Finally got the stupid review slides done! Oh my goodness what an exercise in torture.
I weighed in this morning and had a loss! YAY!! I’m less than 1.5 lbs to my November goal of making it into the 170s again. Praying water retention stays at bay.
This weekend will be filled with walking, some light cleaning, and some turkey day prep.

@itladyee Thanks! Yes, I was able to get back on track after 1 day. I felt horrible the next day and I had no intentions of repeating that!!! I'm not quite sure what you were asking…
I was wondering how your body would have tolerated the alcohol after it had been gone from your system. Thanks for sharing.
Anyways, the next day (yesterday), the alcohol was probably out of my system. What would have been left in my body is the alcohol metabolite, acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde is the toxic compound produced by the body during alcohol metabolism and is responsible for many of the negative effects of alcohol, such as the hangover. I did have a hangover yesterday. Last night, I slept fine and I feel fine today.
@NonnieDoiron I'm aiming for that goal also…being in the 170's. I'm not too far from that either. I'd really be thrilled to get down to the 160's. It will happen. It just may take awhile.
@Womona It is amazing how quick our tolerance goes down after we cut down. I remember, at one time, I was thinking about drinking just 1 day a week. What I found was that not drinking for 6 days was long enough to lower my tolerance. So, I decided to make it 2 days a week. Of course, that didn't work for me either 😕
Have a good rest of your day everyone!

Yesterday while on my exercise bike I happened to skim through various youtube videos about the pesticides and added toxic chemicals including glyphosate in wine! As if the alcohol wasn't bad enough.
So I bought clear tequila instead. Ugh!

A-3
Waking up regretting this, I google glyphosate in tequila and YEP, it's got some degree of contamination also. Only sure way to avoid this is just go AF all the way.

Your shared research is always appreciated @globalhiker! They say clear choices are a better choice than colored for a plethora of reasons. Reflect and don’t dwell!
I had unplanned wine last night and hit my max limit on glasses through this Sunday. Now what, ugh. 🛑
I came home feeling overly excited for the holiday magic that’s about to happen (in my mind) after a huge shopping haul for Thanksgiving week. Those old tapes are powerful!
On another note, I was pleasantly surprised to find a non-alcoholic sparkling wine at Trader Joe’s by Josh yesterday.
I’ll be using it to make mocktails for my family next Thursday. With cran juice, apple cider and recipes I found on Instagram.Leaning toward the low cal, low sugar options. I’m also using Ultima’s Mocktail electrolyte powders for the second year in a row. My DDIL appreciated having these on hand last year. Tasty too - the Cran Cosmo is super yummy and I’ll serve in a festive red rimmed martini glass.
So, I’m motivated today to reframe that magical, (temporary) feeling and relax with some NA choices tonight.
Taking a long walk in the chilly air now and will reset!4 -
I did not go for a walk or clean today. I decided to do abso-f’ing-lutely NOTHING. I cooked breakfast and dinner because I wanted them, but that was it. I’m about to head to bed.

@Michieb125 your attitude is inspiring and you remind me that we all have that "reset" ability.
Making an apple cider brined turkey for Thanksgiving. Bought all the food yesterday. I was a TJ's also and had to pick up their cranberry sauce.
These days leading up to Thanksgiving will be AF for me. No drinks in the house and I am not stepping foot into a store since my shopping is all done.

Hi everyone,
11/23: 023 AF days completed since 10/31/25! (Last alcoholic beverage: 10/30/25.)
Did all my Thanksgiving shopping on Friday and Saturday. I will be staying in today, (safe at home base)!
I will be having Thanksgiving at the home of my son, Amer (42nd birthday yesterday!) and his wife, Laura. I will be bringing appetizers, sparkling cider, a candle and pumpkin pie. My son doesn't like turkey so we will be having Middle Eastern food on that day, but I bought a turkey breast for me ($8.00 for 4.47 lbs. at $2.79/lb.) so I can have roast turkey over that weekend. I also bought a bottle of "Fre" brand non-alcoholic Moscato wine and a bottle of diet ginger beer (also non-alcoholic). I'm thinking of trying this pumpkin cheesecake recipe:
I might get some Light Cool Whip for a topping. Maybe put some chopped, roasted walnuts and sugar free Maple-flavored syrup (I like Cary's brand.)
Enjoy your day,
💞Carole

Whew!!!! I did more that I've done in 2 weeks on weekends. Feels good at knocking out a small, very very small list lol. Ran/walk my Shiva, well she ran me lol, now out doing laundry. Hunny!!!!!!! Had a couple spiked egg nog last night and wanted a few shots pf bourbon this morning. I can drink, however now I have to reframe from trying to have a celebration drink. Smh I have plans for the gym, I do miss seeing it.

I looks like everyone has their Thanksgiving plans pretty much all arranged. We decided not to cook this year because there's just the two of us (we usually do cook). I did buy a new dining room table set yesterday, though. We're still planning on going to the local diner. They do serve Thanksgiving dinner. But I feel like being nontraditional. So I plan on ordering a patty melt with grilled onions and onion rings. I may order a piece of pie, if I have room. Or, get a piece to go.
Still going AF here. AF all month, except for the one day. I don't plan on drinking on Thanksgiving. I usually do. I don't know why though (except for the fact that I used to drink everyday) because I just drink by myself (it's not a social or celebration type of thing). We usually don't have company…our family and close friends live far away. Anyways, I've been feeling happy lately and I know we will enjoy our day!
Congrats to all that are achieving your goals!
Have a good day everyone!
