Forgot to add re MOs experience with cat scratch fever. Cats seem to carry nasty bacteria on their claws and in their mouths. There was a girl in vet school that almost lost her thumb to a cat bite. Can definitely get very nasty infections.

Laptop tuneup was so worth it, despite the hassle of “NoScript” re-settings. Sooo much faster. Will be even better when he adds RAM.
Finally confessed to Joe this morning that when Mariah (BFF’s daughter, call her my god daughter/adoptive niece) and her family come to visit, I’ll make them Thanksgiving dinner. They’ve been here before but when I mentioned her husband and six kids, Joe was shocked and in total denial. He remembered when they visited before and thought they only brought 2 or 3 boys. He kept repeating “That’s horrible!” I kept repeating “You might want to hide out in your man cave. They won’t arrive 'til afternoon, you’ll probably be asleep already.” This is such good “let it go” practice for me. I’ve abandoned all expectation that Joe will join us for dinner. Hoping he’ll stay home and not run away for the weekend, but whatever will be will be. Thanksgiving prep status in a later post.
Belated welcome @ummleeban Noor in N .VA! ((hugs)) for the hard year and YES to re-prioritizing self-care. It’s key.
Belated welcome @_Sweet_ , even though you’re not 50 yet. This is a safe welcoming place full of wisdom and support.
Rita love love love the stuffed turkey toy and also your inventive paper towel roll treat toys. Will steal those ideas, ok?
Rebecca yours to Debbie about the prayer for her MIL. Amen, sister, amen! What a stunning change for you. Your legs in those exercise pants look so lean, well done! Cannot believe your sister’s painting is watercolor, it looks so shiny, like acrylic!
Lisa love your flowers. One of the many things I love about living here that there is something blooming every month of the year. Right now it’s rosemary and heather. Continue to be awed by your energy, accomplishments, and creativity. Look forward to learning about the new idea.
Barbie “I am happy telling people that I have plans or am not available at a certain time even if my plans are watching TV and knitting. I don't go places I don't want to go.” I will borrow this and share it with T. Neither of us wants to go to the line dance Christmas party, it’s just too much and overwhelming. T wants to make plans so we have an excuse. I don’t want to make plans with her for that date I just want to stay home with Joe and the dogs, that’s my plan! ;}
Lanette 1.2 g protein/kilo of desired weight = 65 g for me, I can do that! Just need to add a cup of bone broth.
Machka Cybil Shepherd is only two weeks older than I, and she looks way better! ;} But then she always did . . .
Okie the idea of that much decorating makes my head hurt, but WOW what organization!
Flea yours to Allie, especially about the precut veggies, fruit and nuts for snacks. A little cheese too wouldn’t hurt… Your soup and grain bowls are competing with Rebecca for food porn awards. ;}
Ginny so glad to hear from you post-surgery, you’ve been on my prayer list.
Debbie that’s some taco Tuesday food porn too!
Allie love the pic of Siri roughing it and all the pics of the grands.
Melanie, even though it was exhausting, I think those students really got an education at your ranch. Hope it helps to steer ;} them into a more suitable profession…
Michele MORE blow molds? Wow.
Pip glad no quake shakes. Brava on the floor exercises!
Margaret, Teri, Barbie, Lisa and all who expressed their gratitude for where/how/who we are NOW, yes, this, and thanks for the reminder!
Heather, 400+ words? Bravissima! Good news from your bruv. You inspire me to change our linens today, time to get to it!
Thru pg 16.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

When we eat delicious meals at home, we always play the game of, 'how much would it cost in a restaurant?' The answer - a LOT! Including lunch, I'm thinking the food comes to around £120 and the wine and champagne at least another £140. Plus I made it all easy peasy. Nothing at all complicated. I think we enjoyed ourselves just as much as going out.
Still waiting for my phone consultation. Stinky cheese afterwards. :-)

It is sad, but she has fibromyalgia, and took Vicodin and Morphine for years to help her pain. So now its smoking and booze. Also has neuropathy issues with her legs and hands. I think its her body just saying enough. When she was well enough to go out and about, she suffered many falls, broken bones. I think she was in a stupor and was walking in the dark to her downstairs place after being at the bars.
Life is about choices, and she is content to live in that basement, not be a bother and let her daughter and daughters family live in the rest of the home. If it were me, I would be taking over the living room with the fireplace, so I could have access to cooking in the kitchen, put a stair assist up to a proper bathroom. But she is happy washing dishes, herself in a little sink. shakes my head I don't get it either....

Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD,
Thank you for the nice words. When I wake up in the morning and stretch my legs, they do look slimmer! Of course then I feel the slight puddle of fat on the bed where gravity has pooled. But hey its nice to feel muscles, the cords on each side of my knees! I can encircle my hands around my thighs right above my kneecap and my fingers touch! Also when I am laying on my side in bed, I can feel my butt muscle! Lol!😂😂. All NSV's!

Carol - you are not old and stupid! You are working through a traumatic experience. The brain for is normal. It is also a good sign that you recognize it. As others have said, have someone you trust walk you though the computer stuff. You are strong enough to walk through this.
Thanks for the good wishes. Today I am at the one week mark and am moving fairly well, except for the fact that my bowels are not cooperating. So I feel bloated and the weight jump is alarming! Will keep working on stuff.
Off to bed-taking a bit to get energy up but improving,
Take care all,

Hi ladies;
I wanted to tell you all that I am thankful for all of you. I guess I have been on here for a year, and it has been a joy.
Michelle, do you ever bring home Whoppers for lunch or dinner for everyone? Wednesdays are 3.59, I believe. I have the ingredients at home that are lower in carbs and calories. If I did have a Whopper, it would be a junior. Those Whoppers are high in calories. How did Gannon's therapy session go?
Rebecca, I had to look back to see what day we do our shot. The last time was the 13th, so then I remembered it was today. Now I will mark it in my calendar.
I can't believe I have to go back to work tomorrow. My time off goes by so fast. Still deliberating on whether I am going to cook on TG. I went to the eye doctor this am and my prescription has changed, so Trifocals are my mark of turning 60. I got single-vision too for reading. I was so wiped that I left without picking a pair of glasses. I went in and saw all those people in Eyemart. So, I went to Kroger. Dr. Pam gave me a complimentary bottle of Miebo for my dry eyes and wrote a prescription. My eyes were dilated too. She said my eyes look good. I slept in the chair waiting for my tea to steep. Rose wanted to go upstairs, so we did, and I called to find out about the charges on her account for meds. The pharmacist said to change her plan to Humana or Well Care. I called about my CPAP machine, and he told me that I need to come up with $685.00. I will make sure that is covered, since my deductible has been met. So, I will call Blue Cross Blue Shield either tomorrow or Monday. I got an appointment with my therapist in the am. I pick up DH at the airport on Monday.
Machka, your advice is well thought out, and I may take a picture so I know what to do. I know that Carol is overwhelmed, because I would be. I don't want her beating herself up. I love that brain of yours. You are so insightful. I purchased a book about the brain because I love to understand what my patients are going through. I love the knowledge you bring to the table. The brain is an amazing and complex organ.
Barbara, I am so glad to hear from you. Don't forget to post a pic of Tumble so we can see how well he is healing.
Melanie, this cat scratch caused a splenic infarct. So, should we keep the cats' paws and claws clean before interacting with them?
Pip, don't forget to tell me about the marathon. Did you do the whole or half, and did you run the entire thing?
Allie, can you get a care assistant to visit you at home and assist you until you are feeling better?
Heather, you need to see the doctor about your knee.
Has anyone heard from Annie?
Okie, are you ready to decorate for Christmas now that you have it all organized?
Well, I'd better put my clothes in the dryer and the towels in the washer.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Lisa - The melding is going fairly well, so thankful I love this woman. She’s anxious right now, I think when the house is gone and she knows everyone is settled she’ll start really settling in.I think she’s homesick and despite it all misses the others. We just keep on holding her close and making sure she knows she’s loved and wanted here.
My SIL (the one I love) is making these to put in shadow boxes.
Melanie - We were concerned we would get that snowfall here last night. DH had to take MIL to the doctor over an hour away today, but we just got a dusting.
Lanette - What a great idea for the diner.
Mo - Kaitlyn and Brodey are taking an unscheduled break, unfortunately it takes a long time to save the money needed to try again.
She is wonderful with her Grandmother.
I’m so glad they are getting this opportunity to know one another.Heather - Happy anniversary to you and Johnny!
A couple of the gals at ceramics gave MIL coats and one bought her mittens and a toque. One coat didn’t fit, but one is perfect.
Kaitlyn said she’s all ready for their mountain trip now. She does need new boots yet though.
I’m so thankful it’s Friday tomorrow, Saturday I think I’m doing something for me, Sunday I’ll have a houseful again and Kaitlyn is going to cut some hair for her father, grandmother and Jonah.Tracey in Edmonton

Today's adventure …
50 km bicycle ride along the beaches in our local area.
Nice day but a bit of sea breeze which helped and hindered.
Made a mistake and didn't have a mid-ride snack … ran out of energy at the end. By the time I got home, I needed a little lie down.
But later in the evening, my husband and I went out to Bunnings to pick up a few things he wanted.

Swimming — no, I haven't. I've been focusing on cycling and organising cycling events. It has been all systems go here for the past 6 weeks or so.
Garden — it's very much a construction area still. Things tend to look worse before they look better!
Melanie — I like the bike selfie. Cycling on snow brought back memories!
Tracey — you're taking such good care of your MIL.
Cat bites/scratches — we have a wonderful black cat. But like any cat servant, we've both been bitten and scratched quite badly. Both of us have ended up at the doctor and onto a course of antibiotics. If you clean your wounds quickly … and then, when they get infected, get onto antibiotics, it's not too bad.

Greetings from Casablanca. Meeting up with my travel partner, D went well and we arrived at our hotel a full day before the start of the official tour. We decided to experience a hammam treatment. It's a traditional Turkish bath plus massage and facial. Quite fabulous. But then things took a bad turn. D slipped on wet tile at the hammam. She was in excrutuating pain and could not move her left leg. This would be bad enough in a familiar setting back in the USA, but in a foreign country, where the primary languages are Arabic and French and it has been an epic challenge.
She was transported by ambulance in crazy rush hour traffic to a private hospital. Staff here are sweet and seem competent. Xrays showed broken hip (fibula neck). D is in surgery as I write this. Needless to say, the priority now is to get her home to Michigan. Right now, I have no idea what the next step is. Hope to hear from the doctors soon.
The tour guide feels badly that we have to drop out. He has offered to put me in touch with a local colleague who can help out with translation, transport and who knows?
In my gut I KNEW she would have a drama on this trip. And she confessed last night that about a week ago she had 2nd thoughts about coming but tamped them down. See? We really should trust our instincts!
Stay well friends and watch your step on tile.

🤩 Rori, sending loving and healing thoughts your way. What a terrible turn for you and your friend on your trip.
🌻 Cicero — the Roman statesman, lawyer, and philosopher — on the power of nature and knowledge:
"If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need."
Source: Letter to Varro (46 BCE)
😍 Tracey, you and your family are doing an awesome job.
😀 Ginny, you are making good progress. Recovery from surgery like yours is a tough process but slow and steady wins the race.
😀 Mo, just like you, I am thankful for everyone on this thread.
😀 Rebecca, when I started on my weight loss journey, the first thing I noticed was that my underwear felt looser. It brought me great joy. No one else could tell but I knew I was on my way;.
😀 Heather, you are so right about how much this meal would cost in a restaurant. Even my simple meals would cost 20 dollars plus tip in a restaurant and they wouldn't be seasoned the way I want and wouldn't be able to watch TV while I eat.
🌻 There's a man in my neighbourhood who leaves his house by car early in the morning (around 6 AM) as I am walking. He always stops to talk to me. At first he told me he was driving to a park out of town to walk. Later he said that he had vertigo so his doctor told him to join a gym and not walk alone out of town. Yesterday I found out that he is 91 years old and his housemate is a woman (not his wife) who has dementia. It is so interesting to find out that others have challenges and still get out and get active every day.
🌺 Lunch today will be the chicken with coconut milk and peanut butter sauce that I make in my slow cooker served with brown rice and jarred salsa verde. Supper will be turkey burger (made by me —ground turkey with egg, matzo meal, and Old Bay seasoning—I make five at a time from a puond of ground turkey and freeze them individually) and steamed frozen mixed vegetables with extra green beans. Breakfast is always an Isagenix chocolate shake. Morning snack after 90 minute walk is Dave's killer bread with cream cheese and sliced green olives. Bedtime snack is Dave's killer bread with cheddar cheese. Other snacks are prunes and grape tomatoes.
😀 Dancing this morning, a bit of yard clean up, and a bit of clutter clearing. It promises to be a good day.

I have the rabbit in the IP. I'm going to put the leeks in later so they don't turn to mush. There are onions, carrots, celery, and herbs in there right now. We are having it with tenderstem broccoli.
The boiler man came this morning, but everything was working perfectly! It did go off at 8 this morning though. He had a look at the zone valve and said it was a bit sticky, so he has done what he can to free it. Other possibility is the thermostat. I think it's the zone valve from past experience. He is such a nice chap.
Rori - What a blow! Grrr! I would have thought that her travel insurance company would be involved in all this and sorting things out, translating etc. That's what you pay them for. I don't think she will be able to fly for a bit. There are regulations.
Lovely sunny day here, but v cold. It's due to warm up from tomorrow morning.

Ladies, I started this yesterday morning. Wasn't feeling well - sinus headache bordering on migraine, tummy jumpy, just all over blah. Met up with M for lunch anyhow and got critical shopping done, then back home to vegetate. Much better today. So here we go….
Allie - so glad you are getting PT, great idea to get some strength and muscle tone back. I like Barbie's idea of adding a protein shake.
Heather - Happy Anniversary! Glad your brother is doing OK. I looked up your friend's illness - bullous pemphigoid. Looks very, very painful. Sorry to hear she's not doing well. Yes, I do the same figuring the cost of home-prepared food vs. restaurant.
Barbie - I figure my home-cooked meals are 1/4 of the cost of the same thing eaten out. Lots of good leftovers for the freezer. And no mystery ingredients, lol. Interesting about that older gentleman taking care of the gal with dementia. I think that reinforces the idea that as we age, seek out some dependable friends or relatives that can help look after our welfare, be it doctor visits or whatever comes up. Roger across the street is in his 80's, and Mrs. Roger is younger, but has many medical issues. She has mentioned that if something happens to him, she'll need to lean on me for a while. I'm ready to help her with whatever she'd need, to the best of my ability, if that ever happens. I am so blessed that they were there for me.
If I didn't have any close friends or dependable relatives nearby, I'd stop in at the Area Agency on Aging office in town and see what resources would be available if I needed guidance in making decisions.
Carol - hope you got the Amazon account fixed up. It's always something, even when we aren't stressed. You are doing fine. There's no quick solution to finding your way through your new life but it's OK to take your time. Machka and Margaret gave a lot of good tips.
Ginny - glad you are healing, hope things "get moving" for you. Such an uncomfortable feeling.
Rebecca - thanks for posting your grocery list.
Barbara - Put me down for some Tuna Casserole unless Joe eats it all, lol. My DH would have stayed for a meal with people he didn't really know then go do stuff in the shop. Or go sit in the living room in front of the TV. Honestly. I used to be miffed at him, but now I get it. For being an old guy on many meds, his hearing was painfully acute for some reason.
Melanie - that looked like a brisk ride. Invigorating, right? Hearing about cat bites - I once was bitten in the fleshy part of my thumb while trying to break up a food fight between our beagles. By the next day, the wound was hot, red and puffy. I went into urgent care and got antibiotics, and the doc said had I waited, I'd be in the hospital on an antibiotic drip. 😣
Mo - taking a student under wing like you did had to be so stressful. I hope you get paid extra for that additional time and responsibility. Your "weekend" sure went fast, didn't it? Glad your eyes are OK. I have dry eyes and need to look up that medicine.
Tracey - how neat MIL was gifted warm clothing. 😊 It's understandable she's kind of at loose ends and misses her friends back home, but you are providing a loving and stable environment for her.
Rori - oh no! So sorry this happened to your friend. Glad there's a translator available. Hope you are able to continue with the tour. This reminds me of Tina's DH and his out of the country medical medical emergency.
OK, sounds like the Mt. Rainier thing was a false alarm. Ice on one of the sensors or something. Goodness. Things get ginned up quickly in the news and on the internet.😁

Well, I got in a little wieghts this morning - 15mins. 5# - as I need to start out light light light and see how the body responds today/tomorrow #sciatiaRecovery. Then basicall low impact like marching in place. In any regards, it felt nice. Nutrition has to get closer in alignment - however I remind myself, the tapering off the meds, the anxiousness of that alone + slow days at work + working on standing And Sitting… it all adds up as to why I would gravitate towards sugar for my nervous system regulation.

Had another weird night after falling out of bed 2 nights ago. This time I heard my daughter yell DAD at 4:20am. I called out her name but got no answer. Saw her this morning and she is fine but my husband is freaked out.
My husband was going to ask my son in law to pick up Chinese food on his way home from work tonight. The last few times it wasn't great so I will make it tonight for the crew. Korean beef and broccoli, garlic noodles, dumplings, and spring rolls. The cost will be way less and it will taste better.
Sadly, another funeral to attend tomorrow. A friend of the family. 67 years old . Cancer ☹️.
Work is still in overdrive. Lots of sick calves out there. Weather a factor plus many were sold and put into feedlots at 400 pounds which is very light and predisposes them to pneumonia. Producers usually hang on to them longer before shipping them but they were bringing such high prices many sold them.
I am stiff and sore from the waist up today thanks to an arm and ab workout yesterday.Rebecca- at least your sister accepts her choices and their results. It's hard to understory I am not living in her mind. It does make me sad though.
Great NSVs 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Nice to shape up those gams 🦵🏼Ginny- feel better ❤️🩹
Mo- I don't know if trying to keep paws clean would help as they lick them and would reintroduce oral bacteria. It is just a part of their commensal microbiome (what is normal for them to carry around on paws and in mouth). When bitten or scratched I would keep a close eye on infection developing or spiking a fever.
Tracey- You are making such a difference in your MILs life 🩷 Hopefully her homesickness will start to fade.
Rori- WOW- what a way to end a trip! I hope you can get D back safely 🤞🏼
Lanette- good to hear you were only down for the day.
Take care of yourselves 💕

As Rebecca said - Life is about choices. I remind myself of this with my mom and my brother who have health issues (severe Heart attack 1.75yrs ago mom. Brother facing cancer). The thing I remember is that they made choices …. and while I maybe disagree with their choices. They are THEIR choices to make, and not mine.
Heather in UK - I normally eat at home. Sat. noon we eat out. Sometimes Friday night. but, its just as easy to get a frozen burger patty out of the freezer and put it in the air fryer, as it is to go to a restaurant. AND- takes less time.
Rebecca - I enjoy JOCKO shakes also. Love the NSV's
Rori ~ Prayers for you and your friend
Lanette - yay for the Mt.Rainer thing being a false alarm!6 -
Hello, my li'l chickadees
Lanette - Glad you're feeling better today and that the Mt. Rainier things was a jump scare instead of a reality.
Rori - Oh my… there do seem to be people who draw the chaos to them. I've known them, and even loved them, but try not to travel with them. Sorry your long-anticipated trip has gone truly sideways. Perhaps there is some reason beyond the obvious why your trip was interrupted? Just a thought.
Tracey - Loved the pics of your little MIL's new gifted duds, and even more so with Machka's pictures of her spring ride right after! You're getting there, kid, one thing at a time. The weekend sounds a little chaotic, but filled with love. Your SIL's shadow picture is just wonderful.
Heather - Happy anniversary! Sounds like a lovely time with a lovely man. Enjoyed the cards, as well. So much better than a canned verse on an expensive bit of pasteboard. At this rate, you're going to have to buy a card rack at a thrift store to display all of your work! Sorry your friend is struggling - and yeah, add me and Corey to the home-cooked v. restaurant costs game. Especially when the meal is particularly good! 🥰
Regarding help as we age: In all reality, marrying Corey was far better for my long-term future than I knew at the time. I was 49 and he was 40 when I married him, but the 17-year-old daughter he brought with him, the amazing woman who just called me for the second time this week, and who calls me "Mom," will be the one who makes sure we're both OK in our later years. Corey's actions while I was so ill let me know, as well, that he remains the opposite of my first husband. The first Mr. Lisa couldn't even handle it if I had a cold, seriously.
Cat bites: My best friend, who does bookkeeping and taxes for private clients, was at one client's home, reached out to pet the cat, and the cat bit her. Like Lanette, her wound got infected, even with washing, but unlike Lanette, she waited too long to get antibiotics, and the infection went all the way to the bone. She had to have surgery to scrape the infection out, one of the more awful-sounding things I've heard of.
Barbara - I would be unable to resist pushing the issue and having a blow-up, but Corey and I tend to have similar feelings about large family gatherings, so it works out for us. Well done for taking it in stride. Has Mariah been warned so she doesn't take it personally?
Ginny - Glad you're getting moving, all those exercises over all those years are going to serve you in such good stead as you heal.
Allie - I'm sorry about your friend, and hope PT can really help you get back toward physical fitness.
Mo - Corey is making lasagna for our Thanksgiving meal, with only his brother here, which may tell you how I feel about the whole concept of stressing out over massive meals. I'm happy to make the garlic bread and leave it at that. I try very hard not to let other's emotional demands put stress on me, but that's not always easy, I know, especially when it's our kids.
Melanie - You definitely look like you're enjoying your biking in the snow! 🚵🏻❄️
Sherry - I get it. I've just finally started tracking my calories again. Yesterday was the first day. Because this isn't my first rodeo, I track for a week before I start any kind of restriction or modification in eating. Reminds me that lying to myself about how much I eat (even though I'm really, REALLY good at it 😂) is not useful or helpful. In fact, it is just an easy way to watch the numbers on the scale rise. Then I have to decide what I want most - the calories, or the scale going the other direction. Not honestly as easy as it sounds, that question. But, as you said, our choice to make.
Waiting on Corey to call here at lunch time. He tried a minute ago, but got interrupted by his boss, not a big deal, nor unusual. He'll call back.
Then it's time for me to get on the elliptical and then in the shower, which I talked myself out of yesterday. (The shower, not the exercise)… and, my beloved called back and has now gone again, just four more hours of work for him, and he's off for nine straight days - with no plans to go anywhere or do anything but be home and relax.
We'll see how long he lasts.
Happy Friday, my dears,
Love,
Lisa in AR9 -
A memory came back on the thought of big holiday meals, when I heard a lady say to a friend in the grocery store, "I've graduated from making holiday dinners, and I don't have to do that anymore." Exactly my sentiments, as well.

Sherry - 15 minutes at 5# is good! I was always under the impression that we need to keep lifting heavier and heavier. I guess that's fine if a person is 30 and in a body building competition, lol. I can't remember - is your goal to build muscle and help your core with the sciatica issue? Or maintain/build some strength or all of the above? Some days I do 10# bicep curls no problem, other days 8# is a struggle. But all we can do is carry on, I think it all benefits. Lighter weights, more reps is my plan. I had to lay off strength training for several years due to surgeries and frozen shoulder. I can't handle the weights I once did, but that's OK. Good luck. 😁
Lisa - you and Corey remind me of my friend C. Her DH is 9 years younger, 2nd marriage for both of them and she's a few years older than I am. Lots of medical things going on right now, but her younger DH is by her side and cares for her. Her sons don't live real close but are in touch with her daily. Between Corey and your daughter, you'll be well taken care of if the need arises - you both will. Hope Corey can relax on his extended time off. If he runs out of projects, I have a few if he wants to work in the rain, lol.😁
Love graduating from making holiday dinners. After all, this holiday is Thanksgiving, not Turkey and/or Ham giving. Keeping the Thanks in Thanksgiving is the idea.
Debbie - enjoy your walk in the Wetlands.
Melanie - I forgot to comment. You fell out of bed - OUCH! Your dreams are something else. Your meal sounds great!
More on Cat & Dog bites - I think if it were to happen again, I'd wash it good with soap and water, then soak the hand in hot (warm as I could stand) water mixed with an ample amount of Epsom Salts. I might have done that with the dog bite, I can't remember. Just thinking about the best way is to disinfect a puncture wound caused by a fur baby if medical help isn't available.
Weather today is overcast with sun breaks, but warmish. I did make another run down to the feed store/barn for another bucket of that bird seed this morning. 27#. I could lift the bucket and carry it into the shop. Took both hands so it's not exactly a Farmer's carry but still. I should be good on bird seed through January. Even though it's a short drive, the highway is 2 lane, shaded by trees, always packed with semi's. So another nice day for a drive without having to worry about icy patches. Non-rumbling Mt. Rainier was peeking out, lol.
