❄🧊 At this time of year when it seems cold, damp, and dark, I find it a good time to watch YouTube videos about Svalbard where it is the beginning of polar night with dark for months. A woman named Cecilia posts regular videos about her life in Lonyearbyean. It puts things in perspective for me.
🌞🐾🐕My success today was getting Bessie to the vet for her annual wellness exam. She can't get into the car by herself and at 50 pounds, she's too heavy for me to lift. So I hired my friend, neighbour, handyman to help me. He put her in the car then went with us to the vet to get her out and back in and then out again at home. Then he came in the house to troubleshoot the back doorbell and one of the smoke detectors. Tomorrow he'll come back to install the new ones he bought. It will be worth every cent and more that I'll pay him

Happy Thanksgiving to my Americans. To all of you, and every one of you in other places around the world, as well, I am thankful for all of you. I'm thankful, too, for the happiness that I've found here, with this man, in this place, and this life filled to the rafters with love. I'm grateful beyond measure. Thank you for being here. With love from Arkansas…🥰

Barbie- I do too, reminds us of our Penny from the pole..hope all is well with her.
Yes Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends near and wide.
I hear some places are getting blasted with snow.Carla your up in that area aren't you and Kelly is in upper Michigan

Heather - it is hard to keep her generous spirit in check. She’s not falling for the sob stories anymore though. I don’t know if that’s because she doesn’t want to help them anymore or if she doesn’t want to ask us to do it for her. Either way, she’s not taking the bait.
Kylia - these manipulators sure can tell a tale. I’ve known about my SIL for years, I just never thought it would get that bad. I don’t know what her “drug” is. It’s not actually drugs, I think it’s gambling and a hoarder mentality.
Hopefully you’re not too sore after your fall, it happens so fast.
Lisa - I am confused about the house myself. We received a letter via courier on Monday stating that it had been sold in a property sale on Nov 20th and must be vacated by Dec 22nd. The purchaser was the “mortgage” company though. It was a loan shark mortgage that I still don’t understand how it can even be legal, hence the quotation marks.
They have all moved out and the house is vacant. I have disconnected the phone and the power. I don’t know if there will be another auction or what, I don’t understand it all.
They have rented a storage unit and have moved into the granddaughter’s friend’s apartment with her. I feel for the friend, 3 adults that are loud, 3 dogs and 2 cats moving in a 3 bedroom. She knows what she invited though. I hope she is not taken advantage of but truthfully probably already is.
Is Corey on holiday this week?Melanie - I told my MIL about your Dad’s shopping habit. She laughed.
Terrible for that tech to give that advice. I hope she is reported.Rebecca- my cousin makes mug cakes. I think it’s a great idea, please tell us how it goes.
Rita - I hope you have a peaceful holiday season.
I am not too sore today, just if I hit my hip or face in the wrong spot.
I made some Christmas cards tonight, I cheated and bought a pack of fronts, that I just need to decorate. I managed to get 4 done. I have to make about 20 more.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I am so thankful for all of you.

Hello everyone;
My student has completed her preceptorship. She ended up doing well. I found out that I was also scheduled to work this past Monday. I forgot to set my clock. I woke up at 7:01 pm. So I called and told them to write out a report, took a quick shower, brushed my teeth, threw things in my lunch bag, and ran off to work. DH just arrived, so I hugged him. I didn't understand why I had to work to make up for having Thanksgiving and Black Friday off. I get holiday pay. When I got to work, my poor baby was so sleepy that we looked like a drunk trying to sit upright without falling over. All he wanted was hugs. So, I gave him his meds, wiped him down, put on his creams (he has eczema), fresh PJs, did trach care, and put on lullabies. He slept all night. Then the one next door wanted to party all night, I guess he is still celebrating his first birthday. Then the little one is tolerating his surgery well and eating well. Yet he wanted to be held all night. Then I had a teenager with Gastroparesis, and I could not get her pain level below five. It's a busy night with her. I didn't get out till 8:45 am.
I got to spend some time with DH on Tuesday. I felt teary-eyed seeing him. I haven't seen him since the end of April. The 24th was his birthday. I posted it on FB, but Pip told me his head was cut off in the picture. I laughed so hard. My tech skills are terrible.
Lisa, I love the work you do. I love both outfits. I laughed so hard about the oven story. "Little stoned people," I couldn't breathe, I was laughing so hard. I am still laughing. I wonder if people know they smell strongly when they get high. I dated a guy who smoked pot, and I told him to stop, because I can't go home smelling like pot, or take me home. They need to get fired for working and smoking weed. Way to go, Corey!
Allie, I hope the PT and the increase in protein will give you more energy.
I am still trying to catch up.
Barbara, I am so happy your DH brought you joy. We all need some unexpected pleasure.
Melanie, good for you for standing up for yourself. I was mad at my DS and didn't talk to him for a month to get over the hurt. So it is okay to ask for time to get over it. Your DH was so sweet to take you on a date. During this holiday time, treat yourself to a mani-pedi, a massage, or whatever brings you joy.
Lanette, we decided to go out for Thanksgiving and grab a bite to eat. I didn't have the energy after working four 12-hour nights in a row. I just wanted to take it easy. I raked the front yard today. DH told me to do the back, and I told him to help himself. The place you plan to eat at sounds like a winner.
Rori, I am so sorry about D's injury. You were so sweet to stay with her. I would have too. Can you get a refund? Trip insurance is so worth it. I hope she can hire someone to fly home with her in this condition. You are correct, DVT is a big concern. What a nightmare for you both.
Carol, sounds like you got a lot done—way to go. Are you spending Thanksgiving with family?
Rebecca, sounds like you had a lot of fun in your life experiences.
Tina, I love Rao's pizza sauce, and their soups as well.
Tracey, it sounds like you are burning the candles at both ends. I am so sorry you fell. Get some rest.
Matchka, I keep all of my passwords in Notes on my phone. I may need DH to find a place to store his passwords.
Kylia, I am glad you got a new lid for your hot tub, and it sounds like you got a lot done at work. Your Christmas decor is beautiful. Your fur babies are so lovely.
Barbie, I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving the way you want.
I will catch up more tomorrow. Have a wonderful holiday. Happy Thanksgiving.
Love,
MO in chilly Mississippi

Got home this afternoon from being with mom.
Her follow-up appointment went AMAZING-
Her doctor(this is not the first one she saw and hated, said he was an a******) was super sweet, talked to her, explaining the scan results, showing us the pictures of each part. First part there were four small lighter colored spots- he said she needed to watch her BP and cholesterol, that those spots were from that, the next was for memory- that picture looked PERFECT- NO sign of any dementia at all. The last he said did show some atrophy but it looked great for an 82 yr old. Mom was so relieved and on the verge of tears- I will take her back in 3 months for another follow up but he was very happy with the results and so were we.
I told him about her being more forgetful/repeating herself more when she is tired or stressed which he said was normal. She told him about the stress from having my sister living with her. He said he would prescribe a whip and the instructions to use it when ever needed.I spent an hour or so using my dad's old antique corn sheller to shell the popcorn I grew up there this year. It was a great crop for the amount I planted-the seeds were from the last crop dad planted and saved seeds from- He passed away 6yrs ago this next month. I didn't know if the seeds would be still viable but they were. Looking forward to popping some this weekend- will use some for caramel corn in a week and a half when I am back at mom's for our annual candy making weekend.
Will finish catching up tomorrow.Cooking but we won't eat until 5 and everything will be simple so will have an easy morning- will watch the Macy's Parade like I usually do

Holidays
In Tasmania (Australia), our last holiday was toward the end of October: Royal Hobart Show Day, a holiday for southern Tasmania. It's on a Thursday, so of course, I took the Friday, Monday and Tuesday off too.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Hobart_ShowOur next holiday is Christmas/Boxing Day … and for many of us, the whole Christmas week up to and including New Years Day. I requested 3 days of annual leave in that time period and have ended up with 17 days off then. 🎉🎈🎊
There is no Thanksgiving in Australia.
Thanksgiving is a harvest festival. Autumn & harvest here is March 1 to May 30. Easter falls within those months and has an autumn feel.
Weather
Stay safe! Stay warm! Or cool for Machka.
Kylia — we are most definitely staying cool. We are days away from summer but winter will not let go!! We could do a with a bit of heat.
Matchka, I keep all of my passwords in Notes on my phone. I may need DH to find a place to store his passwords.
Mo — I hope they are encoded in some way!
And meanwhile …
- I've been sick this week, but have been working from home somewhat (and napping a lot). I am planning to go to the office tomorrow (Friday). Fortunately the whooping cough that has been going around, and to which I was exposed, hasn't showed up … yet, anyway.
- It has been almost 2 weeks and I am still unable to cancel one particular bank account. Even if you've got the skills and tricks to get into accounts (yours and/or your spouses - not the accounts of random people) and do what you want with them, sometimes you come up against a massive brick wall. At the moment they have me stymied — hopefully when I feel better I'll think of a solution. This has always been the most difficult account to deal with.

Flea- She is beautiful!
Pip- Maybe they were cold...cute picture.
Love the pictures.
Machka- Sorry you are ill again. That sucks! Warmth and healing thoughts headed your way.
Mo-You work so hard for the Littles. We are thankful for you doing it. Rest!
Rita- Good to hear from you! In my opinion, you are experiencing the burnout of drama on top of winter yucks. Blood Family can suck which is why we sometimes choose other family to hold us up, celebrate with us, and cheer us on. We've got you!
Snows-stay safe! Beth-i hope you are able to make it to mom safely.
Debbie- Great news on mom's scans. Sounds like a great doctor.
Yesterday was hard...not sure about today yet…my problem is still sleeping and I still feel like crying. I used productive procrastination again instead of training. I washed the windows on my work truck. I vacuumed the showroom, kitchen, gasket room, and parts counter area. I dusted/cleaned the shelves and parts bins in front of the counter. Dusted, cleaned and organized the counter and shelves on the backside. It was not the day to wear a light pink sweater. We use to get compliments on how clean things were. I reckon that is a sign of how overwhelmed I have been that things were so gross. I get it is a mower shop so there will always be dirt/dust, but the front area probably hasn't had a good clean since 2020. So making progress. I will have M change out plastic tabs on part hangers on Friday. We have plenty of new ones, no reason for grungy looking ones. Will also decorate showroom for Christmas. I should probably finish up my warranty paper work as well. It will all get done. I really miss when my DH was gone most weekends in November/December! I may need to just get a hotel for a weekend or go to Kentucky solo!
The wind is still wicked today as the temps keep falling. Had flurries yesterday. The good thing is my house will be warm once I start cooking. Turkey breast will be in roaster. Chicken in Crockpot. Little hams will go in oven to warm up. The only dessert I am making is pecan bites. M made me a pumpkin roll and DYGD has made the cheesecakes. So I will have jello salad and casseroles to make. No biggie! I am going to get my walking done, then get foods going. For those celebrating Thanksgiving, enjoy your day in a way you are thankful for. I too am thankful for my MFP family! You all mean the world to me. For the rest have a wonderful day!
Much love,
Kylia in windy Ohio where winter is trying to arrive.

I got this golden retriever figurine in the mail yesterday. Kirby said he didn’t get it for me and I know I didn’t. There’s no note inside saying who it was from or a return address other than it came from a fulfillment center in New Jersey.whoever you are, thank you . I guess I have another painting project?

Just had a phonecall from my son, who was asking for our help. He had mistaken the time of day that Edie's swimming competition is, and needed someone to pick up Bea from school. We knew nothing about the competition tomorrow as Edie hadn't told us!
Apparently, she was entered into the Sussex Independent Schools, swimming competition about a fortnight ago and won the Butterfly! Tomorrow, she is in the National Finals! It's up in London, in the Olympic Swimming Pool. 50 metres. Both my son and DDIL are going to support her, as she has never swum in a 50 m pool before. He thought it was the morning, but it's the afternoon. ☺️ She also is swimming in the school relay.
She never breathed a word to us about it! Anyway, I have a Zoom at 4 pm, so John will pick Bea up, and bring her back here. I will feed her around 5 pm. Parents will be back around 7.30.
All a bit last minute, but I am very excited for Edie. Unfortunately, turns are her strong point, but there won't be any in the Olympic Pool. But, what an experience!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends. I hope you all have a wonderful day in however you choose to spend it 😊
We've had a few accidents here over the last 2 days' My SIL cut his thumb deboning his deer. Cut straight through a tendon so is having surgery to repair today. My daughter was then kicked by a cow at the auction market yesterday. Luckily caught her elbow. Double barreled her kicking straight out to the side as she went by her. Nothing broken. Gave her a strong anti-inflammatory last night and she is doing better today. Just in time to take her husband for his surgery. Those cows are so wicked fast for their size.
We have a meeting with a new farm and vehicle insurance guy today. My husband got so angry the other day trying to get a hold of our agent on the phone. He just kept getting bounced from place to place. It used to be independently owned but a big company came and took over all of the small outfits in our area and they have zero customer service. This guy gives you his personal cell number and is driving here 4 hours to prove his personalized service. I said to my husband that I really didn't care! I just want him to do his job.
We also have a tree lighting in a small town about 20 miles away. We take a team and give sleigh rides. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.
Lanette- good for you for being honest about Dr Google! I once had a horse client wanting to sue me because the psychic she had called about her horse's condition told her I was wrong! How can you argue with a telepathic?! 🙄
Rita- those darned kids do know how to hurt us the deepest. I am sorry for how your daughter is treating you. Seems her reaction to the situation is way out of line.
Sounds like Lucy's survival instinct is being triggered. I get so angry at what people do to animals then blame them for their behaviour. She is lucky you understand her.
I am also depressed by the holidays. Too many reasons to mention here. I am on board with faking it until I make it through.Barbie- I love you neighbor! Does he travel 😂
Lisa- thank you! I feel like this is home for me. I so enjoy strong, determined women- what this group embodies.
And was thinking the little stoned people shouldn't be driving or (attempting) to fix your stove.Tracey- I can't believe your granddaughter's friend's generosity. How do people like that always seem to get others to do their bidding? I don't suppose they will contribute to household costs or upkeep?
Beautiful cards!Debbie "A whip with instructions" HA 🤣 Rare to find a doctor with such good bedside manner. Glad to hear her results were positive.
Cool making your own popcorn 😋Mo- Party all night" 😂 What you do is a continual reminder that I can do better. Thanks for the self care advice.
Kylia - I like the term productive procrastination. I find getting going is so hard. Lots of times I just want to crawl under the covers and Hope tomorrow will be better.
Take care of yourselves 💕

Morning all
Happy Thanksgiving to all of our American friends.

Happy Thanksgiving…Treated myself to a sparkling poinsettia plant. It is more peachy than the picture shows.
Having DS for an organic roasted chicken dinner with all the Thanksgiving sides. I made cranberry sauce yesterday. I slow cooked organic cranberries, orange juice, and maple syrup to taste. I then mashed it after berries got soft and then slow cooked another 20 minutes to thicken. I wanted one that was similar to want my mom made. She would grind the cranberries with an orange and then add sugar to taste. I liked making my own because I could use less sweetener that way! I got some gluten free bread crumbs to make stuffing and with use my homemade chicken broth and organic celery and onion to make it.
10 -
Serving cranberry sauce in the bowl my mom always used for her cranberry sauce. Last of the picotee petunias! I bought these as a planter this season and they were some of my favorite of all the petunias I have had!
8 -
A friend told me they cook their turkey the day before. Then chill it and cut the meat off and then reheat in broth. I have done this with my chicken and love it. It was so easy to cut the chilled chicken into nice slices. I put some of my homemade broth and will reheat it tonight for our dinner.
I decided if I get invited to a Thanksgiving meal I am going to make cranberry sauce like I just did to bring! It was not too sweet and not too tart. Just right!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Mo - enjoy your meal out today! The I Don't Care posters on FB were really a hoot with their IDC Thanksgiving posts. I hadn't laughed that hard in a long time.
Carol - hope you are enjoying time with family today.😍
Barbie - thank you for mentioning the Svalbard You tube channels you have been watching. I found one that looks good and have added it to my watch list. I wonder what our Penny is up to? I think she's been back in the states for a while (new ladies, Penny lived in Norway for a while, it was fun following her life there.)
Lisa - little stoned people. Sigh. When I was interviewing landscapers, I found one on FB - I don't think they were stoned but half the crew didn't show up and the ones that didn't know much. I appreciate my guy Alex and his family - Hispanic - so much. They are on the go from the minute they pull into my driveway. Nice, nice people.
Handy spouses and handy neighbors are such a blessing!! If something happens to Roger across the street, I will start to think about moving.
Debbie - great news about your mom, what a relief. She needed to hear that, I'm sure. The doc sounds wonderful and down to earth. That whip prescription was awesome. Neat popcorn sheller too. Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal!
Allie - sorry to hear about your fall. When do you start physical therapy?
Heather - sounds like a good plan to get Bea after school. Good luck to Edie!
Melanie - put me on the list for your book! Please! I want to hear more about the psychic who diagnoses horse problems, and the lawsuit. 😂😂 Hope the new insurance guy works out. When our metal barn roof peeled off during an "historical" windstorm, it took a lot of phone calls to get a half-decent check from our insurance company. Sorry to hear about your SIL and daughter. Glad he can get that tendon repaired today. Wow, that cow was some kicker. Glad your daughter wasn't badly hurt.
Kylia and Margaret - your meals sound delicious. Keep warm!
Sorry if I missed anyone! I love you all!
Ladies, I am so thankful for you all and this group.

Tina – good idea to have groceries delivered!
Ken & Lynette were supposed to come tomorrow but today Lynette called saying that they couldn’t come because they had to go to Ken’s mother’s and another member of their family wants his mother to make the meal. She thought we were having dinner Friday. So we just changed the day. Honestly, I’d have A LOT of leftovers if they weren’t here. I got a larger turkey than I would have if it was just the 4 of us, so it’s all working out. Vince is talking to Ken right now. I think Lynette turns her phone off, which to me is not a good thing to do. What if one of her clients needs to get in touch with her? Update: they are coming tomorrow at 5. Not sure how she thought we were having T on Friday but she wasn't going to have dinner with the mother, so what were they planning to do? Who knows? This is Lynette.
Terri– hope your back is better soon
Rebecca – for the past (oh, 7 or 8) years we have had Friendsgiving at Jess’ place. But like I said, she has things that she likes and are easy to prepare. Oh, well… See, I like to prepare the casseroles etc. early if I can so that I’m not bone tired the day of Thanksgiving. One year she had everyone bring a side. Whatever. I don’t like to buy in bulk unless I must (like dishwashing detergent). Honestly, I get bored with the same thing over and over and over. You have to eat and eat and eat the same thing to finish it up. I’d rather buy a smaller box, but then another variety (of, say, cereal). Another thing is that I’m the person who when I go shopping I like to take my time, browse, check everything out. Jess is the type who is happy just going in the store, getting what she needs, and goes out. So by buying in bulk she doesn’t have to shop that often. I just can’t see it for groceries, either. Staples, maybe if I have room for them.
Today is one of the two days that BK is closed (I’m sure you can guess what the other one is). Jess needed to do some work so she had to drive to Raleigh. I told her that since I didn’t work, if she wanted to take my car she’s welcome. A while ago she talked about wanting to save the miles on her car. I can’t do a whole lot. I also told her that if she can wait to leave until I get home from work on Saturdays, she can take my car. Who knows what’ll happen?
The Y was closed (of course) so I did Jari Love’s Get Ripped and Chiseled DVD then a pilates DVD, took Ganon for a walk
Wish Penny would come back. Her life to me was so interesting. I don’t think it’s for me, but it was so interesting to read about
Tracey – as usual, lovely cards
Deb – how wonderful! Lol Whip prescription….!!!ROTF
M – get better soon, chicken soup works great you know
pip – how sweet of the person who sent you that figurine! Let usknow if you find out who did it
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates
shhh – she doesn’t want us to say anything, but Denise is buying another house. Honestly, I never in my life thought something like this would happen. I don’t know if Pete’s mom is helping them or not. I do believe that she helped them with the first place. Not a place I would have even suggested, but something she’d like. Now this house probably isn’t something she’d like (not a new build)but I’m happy for Denise and PJ (and Pete). Much, much bigger backyard. I think there are enough bedrooms (and a decent size) that we might even be able to stay there and not in a hotel.

Salam aliakum from Marrakech. Today Ds nurse arrived from Portugal. She reviewed xrays, medical records and prescriptions. She checked the stitches and changed the bandage. Took vitals and pronounced D good to go! They are headed out to Detroit first thing tomorrow. My flight to Denver is early afternoon.
I got out to shop today for a couple of hours. D liked this large morba Berber patchwork bag I found, so I went back out and got her one. I am going home with teas, spices, jewelry and argon oil. Wish I could have seen more of Morocco than the inside of souks and hospital but in some ways I did experience a deeper authentic local scene. And these people truly embody hospitality as a cultural ethic. I hope to return.
As this adventure winds down, my heart is swelling with gratitude for your friendship and support. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Healthy Lives to you and yours.

I am testing my resolve here.....
So yesterday I bought some things. Specifically candy. I saw some great mini ribbon candy, those candy tube pillows with cream filling inside, some clusters that were peppermint sweet and salty, and peanut brittle. I have 4 containers (used to hold parmesan cheese powder) on the coffee table. I have looked up the servings for each and can have one piece every so often during December. I am like a boxer that's been training since May for this! These are my test subjects:😂
Happy Thanksgiving ladies!

Tracey - Thanks for the info on MIL's house sale. Glad everyone has found a place to land, and that MIL is getting things figured out. Those cards you made are very nice, I can see your special touch on them. 😉 Also happy to hear no major damage from your fall!
Rori - Thank you for the update. Happy to hear D and nurse are heading home tomorrow. You certainly got a taste of the local flavor and hospitality. Sounds like a wonderful place to visit, hope you can get back there again.
Rebecca - you look great!🤩 Great idea rationing out the candies.
I made a huge pot of chili in the slow cooker this morning, so had an early lunch. Decided to run down to K's Diner this afternoon and see what his $15 turkey dinner was all about. He was dishing out huge portions. Holy smokes, 2# of food plus a slice of pumpkin pie. That's enough for three meals for me. It's all delish. The bottom photo is the food transferred to plates. The plate on the right is all turkey and ham. Left plate is corn, huge pile of mashed potatoes and dressing. And the best part, no one had to clean the house, cook the food, or do mounds of dishes. 😎
There's a rumor he's putting on a similar feed for Christmas. 😉
Hope everyone had a good day. 🤩
