I think most every town has a monument they'd like gone. That sausage color is horrendous.😂💖. But you know the executives of the company are so proud of that thing...😁

We have a statue in our park that is from some obscure Spanish artist. The fact that they put it to a vote, and we all voted no, evidently didn't count for snot. So its supposed to represent a white angel, but honestly, us townsfolk think it looks like a huge phallic symbol. The city says that people will flock to Oak Harbor just to see it. Yah, right. The fact that this art statue was offered to a couple other cities and they said heck no, pretty much says it all. Yeah us.🙄😂

Awe Rori, please validate in your heart/mind, that you had some trauma regarding D's fall. It was just another side of it, like being in a car wreck and being the passenger. Sure, the impact of the crash was on the drivers side, but still it is a chaos for passengers as well. I had to learn about that, watching my husband thru waiting for a liver, and then the transplant. My therapist said, "Rebecca you had your liver journey too, acknowledge that". So rally your groups Rori, the things that give you peace, and calm in your life. That phone situation Aack, it was just the thing to tip you a bit. Big hugs from Whidbey!

Watched a you tube video by a Dr. who was giving tips on how to avoid a stroke when getting older…

He reminded how important it is to drink a glass of water before having my coffee in the morning. Dehydration is a problem when you age.Our desire to drink water goes down as we age, and we do not realize we are dehydrated. Being dehydrated can encourage blood clots the source of strokes.

He mentioned if you rise too quickly out of bed in the morning that can cause problems too! As we sleep the blood can pool in our legs more so that when we were younger. It is best to do ankle twirls or leg lifts in bed to get the blood moving. If you sit for a long time at the edge of your bed it aggravates the problem, and it can cause dizziness upon standing.

He discouraged sitting on the edge of the bed first thing and being glued to your phone. He also recommends keeping your morning calm. As we age our blood vessels are more fragile. I think this is what happened to my mother-in-law. She had a fight with her caregiver first thing in the morning and had a stroke the lead to her death.

It is best to stay away from topic like news or family drama until later in the day.

It is also important to have breakfast with a good quality protein and fat this helps your brain. It is time to break your fast not keep the fast going.

Again I heard the message of more movement. I have a tendency to sit for long hours at the end of the day. I am very active during the day which is good. The sitting for four hours stretches at night not so good. I may need to set my timer fore 30 minute intervals to make sure I get up and do some movement for a couple of minutes.

Some to these recommendations have come up from other before. I am just finding I needed the reminders!

Lisa - thanks so much for the Kim update. Glad she has others who can check on mom.

Melanie - I too wondered what would make a bear attack a person like that. I haven't heard back from T yet today to get the update. Just checked the rabies stats for Washington state - there have been 162 cases in the past decade - all were bats. So far.

Heather - your brother looks wonderful! I bet Edie will be eager to fill you in on the swim.😁

Kylia - love your list of places you want to visit. If I could teleport to those places and not have to mess with standing in lines, airplanes, passports, tired people, etc., I'd love to join you for a few hours. 😁 We can stop in to see Machka and taste some of her honey.

Rori - welcome home. What a vacation to remember, right? Glad you got the phone situation finally squared away.

It's surprisingly sunny and warm-ish this afternoon, feels great. I've been catching up on outside stuff, the sun feels so good. I had a low of 35F this morning and it's now 46F and climbing.

Reminder that tomorrow is weekly Check-In for those participating. 😉

Just peeking in. Everyone seems busy! Do we have the December link yet. I did take a cruise to Greece and Italy. And then i had an allergic reaction I was told and fluid built up in my ears and I could not hear! This went on for like 10 days and I was quite ill. Then I felt better and now I have congestion and a cough. I have tomorrow free and will read through the posts tomorrow! See you on December's link!

    Best,

    Rosemarie from GA

😀 I have several friends who have found that the 12 Step Overeaters Anonymous program has been their path to recovery from obsession with food. Like anything else, the solution to a huge problem requires time, energy, commitment to new ideas and practices and has to continue for a lifetime.

😀 Rori, when I needed a new phone, I was glad to be able to go into a store with kind and patient clerks. You did a smart thing. It will take time to recover from your trauma about your friend's injury. My friend who travels even more than you, had her pocket picked and lost her phone at Heathrow. She was traumatized and briefly thought she'd never be able to travel again. Getting a new phone was tough for her, too. Since then, she's traveled to England for a month and taken a cruise to Sydney and another from Nome to Greenland through the Northwest Passage.

😀 Margaret, you reinforced my vow to seek every opportunity to be active. I have to walk first thing in the morning because the dogs have to go out right away. After I feed them, I walk across the street to get my mail out of my mailbox. I don't drink coffee but my breakfast is an Isagenix shake with 24 grams of protein, eight ounces of water, and two big ice cubes.

😀Rita, Annie pulled all the stuffing out of her dog bed. I threw the bed away and bought her a bed made of canvas that she can't chew. She pulled all the stuffing out of and out comforter and now the remains of it are part of blankets on the floor. Her other blanket is one that she ripped when it was on the bed and she had a crazy time while Jake was in the hospital. She yanks them around and makes a comfy bed from them on the carpet near the computer.

😀 Melanie, in Longyearbyen you are required to carry a rifle if you walk outside the city limits.

😀 Machka, you do an amazing job of organizing the bike events.

😀 Heather, congrats to Edie on her swimming accomplishment. That's a long way to swim.

😀 Lisa, thanks for the update on Kim.

😀 Rosemarie, It looks like your cruise was fun but sorry to hear about your health problems.

Rebecca, congratulations on Onederland! Just know that it is normal to fluctuate a little above and below that magic number for a while before you settle in below.

i had a nice little post going yesterday and MFP wouldn’t let me post it. They said I wasn’t logged in, even though my picture was showing in the menu bar and I was reading from my bookmarks. Of course my post was hone when I logged in. I could not be bothered to try again.

It was right under Debbie’s post with the dishes with strawberries. I was telling her that we had those dishes at one time. I can’t remember if they were mine and Dave’s or if they were my parents’, or what happened to them. I just remember how pretty they were. Your table brought back sweet memories.

I don’t know what happened to my food noise, but it is gone. I just don’t obsess like I used to. It may be a combination of trying to follow the seven habits from a Healthy Free Life, eating more protein - which has conquered my sugar craving for the most part, or a book by Heather Creekmore called “Compared to Who” that just really spoke to my soul. I’m just thankful for it being gone.

This is our family Thanksgiving picture. I’m in the gold shirt. I don’t know if it’s the camera angle or what, but I look so short compared to the rest of the family. I used to be 5’7”, which is taller than either my daughter or granddaughter. I don’t know. Maybe I shrunk? Of course my son is 6’5” and my husband and son-in-law are both around 6’2”, so there is that.

GLP-1 is a naturally occurring hormone. Some food we eat can encourage it, some proteins, fiber, good fats, avoiding sugar, oils, salt, and ultra processed foods. I have found my food noise is minimal. Hubby still buys chips, candy, cookies, etc, but they are not tempting to me, even when he buys my favorite. If you are eating a healthy diet, you might be reaping the benefit.

The drugs are minimcking or encouraging the hormone.??? I'm not sure how they work exactly. But it seems to me that someone on one could kick start their weight loss and quiet the food noise, which is absolutely a real thing, as we all know, then transition off to a diet which encourages GLP-1 production naturally and still lose weight and not have that annoying food noise. I don't know if that's ever been tried, but it seems like it should be possible, at least theoretically.

    Into December we go!

I was on a cycling event that went through Mundare and that was the first time I saw their "big thing". I actually stopped, stared, and thought, "What the heck is that!!"

I found out what it is meant to be, but each time I've seen it, I've still thought, "What the heck is that!!"

I think that when it comes to weight loss, what we do as individuals is what works for us. I have a hard time discussion weight or diet with people. It still makes me anxious. I have spent my whole life trying to be "perfect". Find the perfect diet, the perfect training plan. Thank goodness menopause has brought me to my senses. I still am not completely honest when people ask how I am eating because my choices may seem extreme, but it is how I like to eat and makes me feel my best physically. I am ok with that and no longer chasing the "perfect plan". No more wasted time and money.

Yes, weight loss, fitness, and wellness in general is very individual. People have asked me what diet I'm on, as though if I'm following a specific diet and it's working, they could do it too. But I don't follow a specific diet and what I do possibly wouldn't work for another person.

One of the things I decided when I lost a lot of weight in 2015 was not to eat anything I didn't really like. And I'm picky. That helped shut down the food noise because although sometimes things look good, I know I won't like them.

So my diet is "Foods Machka likes" and fewer calories than I burn.

I am excited for you about that triathlon. Since I started swimming, doing a triathlon has appeared on my distant horizon.
