Week 6, 7 & 8 and I've managed to lose all of a 1/2 pound... My weight hasn't shifted and this isn't the first time I've hit this barrier... My eating plan has been going well, but no weight loss..It seems this is always what happens to me when I try to diet, then I lose heart and go back to eating rubbish.. But no, this time i am determined to conquor mind over mass!! Heh well as most of you know im an exercise phobic, but really 3 weeks and no change..i had to consider the real possibility that no exercise=no loss  I decided to enroll in a self defence type class thats late enough for me to catch after work one night a week. Anyway, last night was my first night at it. Nice setting out in airy park under lamplight. They turned up with wooden knives and swords lol... Well it turned out to be the most excruciating painfull thing i've done in a long time... Not at all the easy step back into exercising that I had hoped. So today i am in agony, my neck back and arms are killing me:explode: I was a right sight at the end of it.. bits of grass sticking out of my hair, red sweaty face limping back to my car lol... Anyway, just a warning.. if they say self defence class make sure you check it out that they dont include a load of martial arts like bunjinkan modified in it..

Lol. Well personally I enjoy martial arts, but it's certainly not for everyone. Recently I've been taking a dance class, swing dance to be precise. It's not real heavy work but it gets you moving for an hour or two and it's SO much fun! If you're looking for exercise to get you out of a rut (which it seems you might be at that stage where it's time to up the ante, so to speak) a dance class might be good. Of course, I'm assuming you like dancing and can find a class in your area . . . and you may want to keep going with the self defense class.
In any case, I've had a similar experience and exercise definitely got me out of my rut. All I did was get up and run in place for ten minutes during The Daily Show every night though lol. The dance class this semester is definitely more fun . . .0 -
I am by no means an expert on fitness/diet but i have read enough and done enough of it in my life to know a few things. Our bodies are designed to hold onto our fat stores and to increase them if possible. I am not only trying to loose a few pounds but to gain muscle mass. to do either i must "trick" my body by changing up my diet and excersice routines every few weeks.
What you/we are doing is changing your life. the weight loss will happen just keep doing what you know is right and dont kick your self if you back slide a day or two.

I think the key to exercise is to find something you enjoy....you will be more likely to stick with it. I have a couple of friends who joined a spin class - one loves it and the other hates it (sounds hideous to me). I love walking but hate treadmills, so I just walk outside and try to find new places to do it. I also joined a line dance class at our community center and really enjoy it (yeah, line dancing - I was kind of surprised at that one). Of course I'm not sure they have much in the way of line dancing in Dubai......
Since you eventually want to scuba dive, why not try swimming? I started lap swimming a couple of times a week this winter when it was too cold and windy to walk. Swimming is great for two reasons - One, when you get out of the pool nothing hurts, and two, when you log your exercise you find you have used a lot of calories. If you are worried about how you look in a swim suit - don't. There are all different ages, shapes and sizes out there lap swimming and they don't care how you look. The only one that got my attention was the 70+ guy wearing a speedo :noway:
Hang in there on hitting that plateau....I stalled out for three weeks in February but I finally started losing again....6 more pounds! You can do it!0 -
lol at the speedo guy^^ (lol hurts to laugh) thanks for the replies here and on the messages^^. I had to roll out of bed this morning cause i cant bend  I mean it has really hit home how unfit i am.. my problem with classes etc is the time i get in from work the one i went to the other night started really late so was good^^. (I have a pool but I am sensitive to chlorine so only my family use it when they come on hols), oh and my threadmill packed in on my 2nd use it either goes 1 mile an hour or full speed, lol all the elements have been against my exercising so far). Anyhoo despite the pain I am gonna attempt to clean the house top to bottom burn off a few cals seeing as its my day off^^. (I had a laugh about jumping on the spot, but I will try it if I can move later^^) And who knows, I got a new lead for my ferrets I might take them out for an adventure walk later on^^. I'm not disheartened about the weight loss levelling off as I know there are quite a few of you who have been through it and eventually it starts falling again. Thats why this site is so great, is so good to have that bit of support right when you need it. So thanks again peeps^^, I appreciate it very much.0
