I'm going to start hiking in about a week or two, and need to know whats the best kind of shoes to do this! Anybody else hike? How's the burn? Well I think I put this in the wrong category, but I can't figure out how to delete it or move it.

It depends on the terrain but here in the UK I wouldn't hike in anything less than proper walking boots that give ankle support. Nothing worse than a twisted ankle up a mountain!!!
The burn is good, but again, it'll depend on your terrain and incline.
Enjoy making the most of the great outdoors.0 -
Hi
It all depends on where you are going.
If you're walking on fairly even paths and it's reasonably dry, a good pair of lightweight walking shoes will be fine.
If you are boulder hopping you may feel more security wiith some boots around your ankles for supprt.
Nevertheless, go for the lightest pair you can afford.
Waterproof is good too, with a fabric such as e-vent, which breathes as your feet heat up.
Have fun and enjoy the burn (in Scotland, however, a burn is a mountain stream!)
Cheers

I highly recommend something like Regatta Wetland boots, extra lightweight and waterproof - real good. The burn will be what you make it.

I plan on going hiking up hills and probably mountains eventually, whatever is going to give the most burn!0

I love to hike, I recommend a boot with some ankle support especially if you are carrying a pack. I really like the KEEN brand, but everybody is different. You may want to get a small day pack and be sure to stay hydrated. If you get into hiking and really like it you may want to invest in some trekking poles for rough terrain. Happy Hiking
ps. it is great for burning cals especially hills0 -
Good for you! Hiking is a great excercise and what a great way to burn excercise while enjoying nature! I definitely a frequent hiker. I agree with a lot of the above posts: full boot to protect ankles and support back, small backpack or camelbak to carry water, healthy snacks, and camera. I would also say to invest in some good hiking socks that are wool or marino wool. The wool wicks the moisture away from your feet and reduces the chance of blisters. Oh! And make sure you wear your new boots and new socks around town doing errands a few times before you hike to help break them in.
Happy hiking!0 -
If it's flat, you should be OK in some sturdy shoes or even trainers, especially if along roads! If its hilly hiking, invest in some walking boots with GOOD - EXCELLENT treads, prferably Vibram. Make sure you break them in thoroughly before hitting the hills properly and wear good socks and carry blister plasters, just in case... if you start getting a hot patch, apply blister plaster such as compeed as soon as! x0
