Can you over do it?

Is there such a thing as working out too much? I double to triple my given work out plan daily. Is that going to extreme?
I've always been athletic so only doing 20-30 mins a day just isnt enough for me to feel good about? Advice?
I can never just take a day off from everthing either?
It makes me feel guilty.

I think it is up to each person how much is too much. I think resting a day would be good and don't feel guity for its ok not to be perfect at this.. relax.. It sounds like maybe you need to give yourself permission to rest up some.. linda0

It is said that recovery is as important as exercise and nutrition when it comes to improving health. I struggle with days off too so how about just a walk or something light so you still feel you are moving, but your body is getting a break from more intense exercise.0

It all depends on the person! I know people that do Insanity and another workout in one day! You just need to listen to your body. If it seems like too much then slow done, if it feels right then keep doing it!0

Listening to your body....if you are feeling tired and sore then its time to take a break.0

There is for sure doing too much, your body can break down and basiclly stop giving you what your looking for. Be sure to get rest and don't forget to eat plenty of calories on the days you do work out..
From experience.. Ive worked out super hard, intaking little calories.. and didn't lose a single pound in a week.. I weigh 217.. Needless to say it was frustrating.. but now that I have slowed down, the weight has begun to fall off again.0 -
I work out 6 or 7 days, and have been doing so for over 7 years, but not the same thing every day, and usually there is a light day in there somewhere. My workouts are never less than 45 minutes; a bike ride or dance rehearsal would be at least 2 hours.
I work out bc it's fun, but I don't feel guilty if I skip a day; sometimes you just need to rest. If you are used to this schedule, I'm sure you'll be fine; if it's new, you may start feeling run down, in which case you need a day off and some vitamin C! Your body will tell you.

i think you will know if you want a rest day. i don't technically always take one either. i'll usually go for a long walk on those off days. just do what feels comfortable to you0

Over training is definitely a hindrance to anyone's progress. Depending on the person's goal and what they're trying to achieve. The way I base over training or working out too much, is the amount of muscle loss. If i notice a significant amount of muscle is being lossed faster than fat, by monitoring body fat percentage. Than I would slow down the intensity, and also increase protein intake. If your a person who simply just wants to lose weight regardless if its fat or muscle. Then if you noticed lots of cramping, fatigue in the muscles, or just overall fatigue. Then your definitely pushing yourself more than you should, and should slow down the intensity as well. The thing is, if you monitor and control your calorie deficit. You won't have to exercise as hard or too much. Let your nutrition do the work for you. I've personally have gone weeks without exercising, but stayed on point with my nutrition, and I still continued to drop weigh/fat.0
