Doing everything right and the scale hasn't budged. WHY????

First of all, I weigh right around 300 pounds. I have yo-yo'd the same 10 pound for a couple of years.

Two weeks ago, I started the following plan, as supplied by my nutritionist friend: I ate within calorie range (weight times 12 minus 500 for max, minus another 500 for minimum), exercised approx 45 minutes x 6 days per week, ate approx 2 servings of fruit and 4 servings of veggies every day, drowning in water (about 90 oz per day).

The first week I lost 3. 25 pounds and was happy! Tomorrow is the end of the 2nd week and the scale is EXACTLY the same as last week's weigh-in. I did everything exactly the same. I don't understand.

Any ideas???????

I.am.frustrated!

I guess the only thing to do is to keep on doing the right thing and give it time...but still I feel like surely there is a missing link that I'm not getting. What do I need to do differently? Mind you, I AM 300 pounds and not very fit so I can't do some outrageously hard workout just yet, but...what CAN I do?

  • Sounds like you're doing everything right, but I can't see your food diary, so I don't know what you're eating. Could be sodium -- that will always make you weigh more. Other than that -- you can give it more time, and if things still don't change, go and see the doctor, maybe it's something medical.

I feel you sister! I'm feeling like I am working my tail off but with no actual tail coming off.

Can you go for a walk? Start slow and see what you can do. I like to listen to a podcast and take a stroll and zone out. I used to be completely unable to work out for like 5 minutes and I am seeing myself doing some really insane workouts now.

stay in touch with your doctor and nutritionist, but most importantly, don't give up. Any exercise is better than no exercise. You didn't gain the weight in one week, you won't lose it in one either. Just keep doing what is right. You can do it!

    Patienceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee you can't rush beauty.
  • 1 week is not definitive. You could be retaining water from the workout. I am almost certain that you did in fact lose weight but that loss is being masked by water retention for one reason or another. Keep at it and don't worry if it takes a bit for the scale to drop again. I wouldn't change anything just yet.
  • I'm sure you have heard this before but it really is true, if you have gained any muscle at all, the scale may not move. I worked out like a crazy person for 6 weeks using a personal trainer (2x per week), lots of heavy cardio, and also tracked my food and the scale did not move one bit. However, I have lost body fat, my lean muscle has increased, I have lost inches and I feel great. It is VERY normal to actually gain weight when you begin any new exercise routine. My suggestion is to be patient and proud of yourself for what you are doing. Remember, this needs to be a lifestyle change. You are well on your way!!! My trainer told me to stay off the scale! Best of luck!

patience girl! Its only been 2 weeks... Give your body a chance to adjust to the changes. Im not a patient person, at all, especially when it comes to workin out and losing weight, but you have to be. Just push through the frustration and turn it into motivation! Do not give up! They are right, you didn't gain this weight in 2 weeks, don't expect it to disappear over night. Just remember how great it felt when you lost the initial 3 and whatever pounds and keep going. You will get there!

That has been my week! I have been frustrated,, but I have been reminding myself that it is not just about the pounds. It's about getting better all around. I may not lose for a week or two, but I am exercising and becoming fit overall. Not to discourage you, but I read someone exclaim they plateaued for nearly a month, but then it started coming off again. Women also seem to fluctuate in loss throughout the month. Don't get frustrated. Stay with itamd remind yourself why you are doing this. It has helped me to go back and look at my goals and inspirations. You can do this!

It sounds like a pretty decent lifestyle -- more Americans should do that much exercise and eat like that and we'd all be more healthy.

    I'm confused about the calorie thing though. 12 x 300 -500 = 3100. Minus another 500 = 2600. That sounds like a lot of calories.

When I tell MyFitnessPal I weight 300 lbs and want to work out 45 mins./day and lose just 1 lb a week, it tells me to eat 2100 calories a day. I wonder if your nutritionist friend overestimated your caloric needs?

You're using a slow and steady method of weight loss, which means you shouldn't actually be losing more than 1 or 2 pounds a week. You lost 3 in the first week already, however! So that's awesome!

It's only been two week. :) You can live with this plan, too, right? So just enjoy life, enjoy the feeling of eating healthy, and the weight will sneak it's way off. :) Good luck!
  • I've also yo yo'd a few pounds over the years and my weight loss is slow in conparison to some on here. But, sometimes in the past when I have been dieting and exercising and the scales show no change my body is changing shape, most importantly, stick with it and you'll reap the benefits.

Well, I weigh 143lbs. if I did that math it would be this: 143x12=1716-500=1216 for max and -500=716 for minimum. That isnt alot of calories for me. I would imagine that this is a good thing for her. I personally dont want to eat a inimum of 716 calories, but I do stay around the 1200 calorie intake for my weight reduction. I am losing about 1lb. per week so far.
