I seemed to have lost my motivation in the past few weeks! I can't find it. I know I can do this but now without a reason it seems kind of pointless.... I can say all that crazy do it for yourself mumbo jumbo but it's wasted on me. How do I rekick myself in the butt?

Why don't you have a reason to anymore? I'm sure there are lots of good reasons!

Another good reason (long term goal-wise) is to help save money. I work in a pharmacy and a lot of unhealthy people who are unable to change the lifestyle habits and exercise patterns end up needing 3 to 4 medications to help lower blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. and these medicines can cost up to $40 a month on average. Just a thought....but if you stay motivated now, you'll have extra money in the long run!

It has been a crazy hectic last couple of weeks! I originally started the weight loss as part of a program for the VA and it has stopped so I don't have them to be accountable to. Then I changed over to losing it for my guy that I was with for 4.5 years until he decided to screw his niece. So that's done. Now I'm sitting here trying to think of a reason to do half of the stuff I do at all... I've always been the take care of everyone else person and I don't do anything for me and when people try the whole do it for yourself song and dance I just get annoyed. Maybe I'm too used to being fat and miserable LOL

If it seems hard to kick yourself in the butt, ask others to help. Seriously. The team spirit on here is great. I for one am happy to cheer you on.

Friend me if you wish - just add a note. 8 months ago I wasn't motivated to lose weight. Now I'm about 70 pounds lighter and finally LOVE LIVING.

I still have a ways to go, so need a kick from behind myself.

Some (including myself) have found inspiration in my blog... http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/gazz777

That's disturbing, I'm sorry. :( Guys can be such pigs sometimes.

Sometimes the best reason is for yourself. Not for anyone else, but you, your health, and your happiness. As corny as that sounds.

Not to mention exercise is a great way to get some of that aggression out. =D I absolutely loved taking a kickboxing class and imagining someone else's face as my target. XD Maybe you just need to switch things up, too. Doing the same thing over and over again can get monotonous and certainly dwindles my will power as well.

I know right? Very very disturbing! I am getting pretty bored with the workouts. The VA also had me using Spark People which I HATE on top of MFP. With relatives in and out and problems at home and getting my daughter through homeschooling I think I've just kind of had it at this point :( I need a hobby or something

I always tell myself "Give it one more week" then I end up having some better results or feeling better and decide to stick with it.

Do you track your progress other than the scale? I've recently started doing this new exercise program, and I write down all my stats for push ups, sit ups, running times, etc. And trying to beat those numbers each week is sometimes really motivating. Or just seeing my progress from the first week to the next even. I also have a work out buddy now, because after 4 weeks of doing it by yourself, it gets tough to stay on track. Having someone else there for you to hold you accountable is helpful (atleast for me).

Mistake number 1 - doing it for someone else and not yourself. Easy to correct - do it for yourself, be accountable to your self. Once you lose your weight and get a healthier you, your ex will probably be some where needing a round of penicilin based on his behavior. Revenge is sweet!

Myself was actually pretty okay with the way I am... I can't really see myself getting back to where I used to be. ( I suck at the whole imagination thing) He will definitely have a hard way to go but I'm glad to be out of that mess!

Awwww thanks hun! That's a great flower!
  • I hear you! I always do better with a goal and a deadline.

Right now, I'm planning to move August first and so I figure being 50 pounds lighter will make it WAY easier....so a goal is born!

I would say pick something that you know is going to happen in the next few months and set a reasonable loss goal....then go for it! Good luck!

I just glanced at your profile. You are simply having a bad day. You have all the reasons down of why you want to lose weight and having lost 27 pounds is amazing. Please don't let some low life (incest qualifies for low life in my opinion) RUIN this for you. Be your own dog- hold your head high and keep on trucking on you weight loss journey. Be kind to yourself and your child. The two of you deserve better. Put all of his belongings in a box, take it outside, beat the crap out of it with a ball bat and then bury it and say good by forever!!!!! Don't want to bury it - burn it. Well maybe I am a little extreme but you get the point.

I say set a goal like a 5k or half marathon... pay for it and then you will have something to look forward to. Or a cute little dress, bet someone money...

I too have an issue with just doing it for myself, I know that doing it for me is for the best... but guess what I am not going to leave myself if I dont lose weight. Right now my goal is to go to Colombia in April of next year and get a tummy tuck, so I have to lose the weight in order to get the surgery!

I have you find that special thing that sparks your interest again!

Yeah I have good reasons but these last 2 weeks or so I really fell off the wagon. I started back to exercising yesterday but I just don't have the passion for it anymore you know? I'm trying to find something to reignite that spark but man is it difficult right now

YES!!!! I have a birthday coming up and need to redo my license but it's like I can't get my head out of my rear enough to get motivated and ecstatic about it again. Before I was the one driving everyone and now I'm kind of like a lost puppy

Sounds like you are busy. I found a website that helps me because I don't have much time between two jobs and a family. Its called BodyRock.tv and there are 12-30 minute intense workouts posted weekly. Its a very motivating website. The creators encourage working out at home only using your body weight. I have been trying to do 3-4 workouts a week, but I have to schedule them in, and I still try to get some cardio to balance my sometimes out of control eating habits. However, even though I've only lost a few pounds, I've lost inches and I AM STRONGER...and that just feels great no matter what I'm doing. Check it out. I think it might be for you.

Answer these questions: Why do you want this weight off? Who are you doing this for? What will happen if you quit? Then tell yourself to suck it up and get off your butt and do something, ANYTHING that gets your heart pumping. I always feel in a better mood when the sweat is starting to bead on my forehead and I can feel air rushing in and out of my lungs. You need to lift weights or ride a bike or run or something. Beat the ^&*( out of the pavement if your a runner or squash the guys face in with every downward rotation on the bike. Just get the frustration out in your work out. It really does work and you'll be happier. I can always tell when my wife and I have had a fight because my legs and arms are so sore from going to the gym. Not only that when you've finally lost the weight and the guy sees you and his jaw drops, you can tell him to go back to the slob of a niece.
