Re-posting this here too in the hope that someone can help.

I am really confused about this net figure - think I may be being a little thick. What is it and what does it do. Does it need to be a specific figure to help with weight loss - if so - what is the optimum figure and how do I increase it - more exercise?

Thanks in advance for your assistance in helping a poor old idiot! LoL

    More details please. Are you talking about net calories?

    I think so
    My daily figures say

    Cals = 1200
    Used = 1188
    Exercise = minus 594
    Net = 594

    Do I need this to be a certain figure to give better weight loss results.

    I am on a daily limit of 1200 calories and and sticking to that rather than eating any exercise calories wherever possible. If I have to eat exercise calories cos I am just simply starving then I try to only eat 100 or so of them.

    Thanks.

    daily intake set at 1200, but you do 500 cals worth earnt of exercise leaves a net of 700, so in your case you would eat 1200 plus your exercise cals back, total for the day is 1900, but your net would show 1200, on days you do not exercise you just aim for normal intake.

    MFP is set up in such a way that you should be eating back exercise cals especially as your at the bottom end at 1200. I have more wiggle room as set at 1550 per day, so I could gain 500 in exercise cals but eat say just 150 back 1550 -500 exercise balance 1050 net so need to eat 150 back to get to 1200 net. sorry hope im making sense, sounds better when im saying it in ma head lol

    Net calories is just your total intake after adjusting for exercise/extra burn.

    Net Calories = Calories In - Extra Calories Burned

    MFP already adjusts your net goal for the rate of weight loss you want, so KISS - try to get your net total right around the goal. If you exercise, eat the extra calories (at least half of them - more if your body is still telling you it is hungry). You will still lose at roughly the rate you told MFP you wanted to lose the weight.

    Good answers. Not much I could add without complicating the issue.

    Okey dokey - think I get it now. It seems I eat my 1200 calories and my exercise calories - although some people say not to eat the exercise calories which is a bit confusing!

    Thanks everyone.
