Where should chocolate be kept?

In the Fridge

or

In the Cupboard?

Doesn't matter if you dont eat it anymore, you still have a favourite as to where it should be kept!

I prefer my chocolat at room temp because it gets hard and crumbly when it's cold

In the cubboard. I like it soft. I have a huge bar of Hershey Chocolate with almonds just waiting for me to eat it. It's been there for about a month. Haven't done the deed yet.

In a cool place, not a cold place (I.e. not in the refrigerator or freezer). The problem with refrigerating or freezing chocolate is that the dry air in both locations will suck the moisture right out of the chocolate. The oils and such in chocolate are what give it that smooth rich texture, and as they dry out they harden which affects consistency, texture and taste. Chocolate should be kept in a cool dark pantry until it's to be used.

Filled chocolate bars on the counter (well above the fridge in the "treat bin" in my house - less tempting that way! haha), and solid milk chocolate in the fridge so it lasts longer when melting! ;)

That's what dipping it in your tea is for! :D

Plus, it's harder to peel the layers off if it's not chilled! :(

I can't be the only one who eats my kitkats layer by layer!

Cupboard. It has a very long shelf life! I buy large quantities when I go to a Trader Joes (the nearest is 3 hours away) to bake with. (Cakes, chocolate mousse and souffles, cookies, brownies, hot cocoa etc.) I buy dark Belgian chocolate however. I can't say for the lighter varieties but I imagine it would be the same.

If you were to put it in the refridge/freezer you'd have to be sure it wouldn't be exposed to moisture which would destroy it!

(Let's not forget the health properties of dark chocolate either!!!)

Yes, lets FORGET about health properties for the purpose of this thread! This thread is purely about which you prefer for that other forgotten nutrient....TASTE!

In my stomach. Long term storage is on my thighs.

Seriously, where to store chocolate has never been a problem.

This isn't a "help me! where do i store it?!" Thread! It's just to gauge opinions of what people personally prefer!

I store it on the coffee table, but the husband likes it either stored in the fridge or freezer.
