So for the past few years probiotic yogurts & yogurt drinks (not to mentional supliments & such) have hit the super markets & commercials hard. I understand what they are supposed to do & what they are good for (healthy digestion, guts & poops)... However I have never heard anyone ever say "gee those 2 weeks of activia sure did change my life!!"
Anybody here take or has taken probiotics for a while & noticed the healthy benefits? Please let me know & what it did for you
On the other hand if you took the 2 week challange & were just out the yogurt money let me know as well... would like both sides

I found that activia really helped with the gas produced from the increased fiber in my diet. I eat it several times a week is all, I was totally blown away by how well it worked for me (pun intended). :drinker:0

Mmm, I just like how activia tastes... I don't mind shelling out the dough for yumminess.0

I swear by Activia...I couldn't tell the difference though until I stopped eating it. It makes you more regular and less digestive issues if you have them. I don't think I ever realized I had them until I stopped eating Activia for a while, and the symptoms came back.0

I eat cultured buttermilk and yogurts and I feel pretty awesome.0

Well I have not done the yogurt probiotics but I do take a pill daily and it has completely changed things for me. I have been constipated my whole life, and I mean like 4 days. Now I'm super regular, maybe not everyday but at least every other day. I have no bloating or discomfort anymore. I think its safe to say its working for me.0

Interesting thing about the Activia is you have to eat it three times a day to benefit and the sugar in is just isn't worth that.
I purchased some probiotics from Amazon by NewChapter Organics and they have helped me. My gut got pretty messed from a lifetime of grains and sugar. Going Primal helped the weight loss, sleep issues, lack of energy and anxiety/tension but my gut was having a hard time and sugar is an ongoing battle. The probiotics are helping my gut heal. (The more fiber I ate the worse my IBS and digestive issues got - I eat way less fiber now and it's really helping). Now if I can stay away from the sugar binges...
Gas is your gut in digestive distress. That's what all that "healthy" fiber is doing to it. Do you know there has never been any study on the "benefit" of excessive fiber in the diet? No evidence saying more or less is good for you and there has never been a minimum amount (do kids need 25g-30g a day like adults?). The "nutritional experts" couldn't prove what they were trying to prove at the time (no I don't remember what that was) so they blamed it on a lack of fiber and proceeded to push more fiber on people. So the dietary guidelines on fiber is based on nothing.
Love my Fage full-fat greek yogurt.0 -
Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman talks in her book Fat Flush For Life about the health benefits of priobiotics and weight loss. I'm a huge fan of probiotics, but mainly because taking them regularly, I don't get sick very often and if I do, it's not near as bad as those around me that get the same thing.
I take Dr. O's or a refrigerated probiotic, you have to be careful to not get sugar laden yogurts.
Priobiotics can fight off yeast, which can lead to sugar cravings and weight gain, so this is another good reason why I take priobiotics. But I have done this for years, it's not a "new"thing in my world.0 -
A big part of your immune system is in your gut, and while eating lots of probiotics hasn't turned me into Gisele, I am regular like clockwork and don't get sick nearly as much as I did when I wasn't eating probiotics.0

yeah I gotta say activia is one of the more creamy & tasty yogurts probiotics or not!
I love that it has fat & sugar in it! No-fat/fake sugar yogurt is like eating thicker water LOL0 -
BUMP
Great Question...I swear by Activia...The funny thing about your post is that I comes just in time. Just about 3-4 days ago it was the topic of discussion between me and my girlfriends. So I had to do my research too, you may want to visit the link below on WebMD...

Activia did/does work for me...
Then I found out I was hypoglycemic and needed to be on a low fat diet. That changed my life; I feel better, I'm not tired, and really strangely, my PMS, cramps, bloating from TOM, all gone! ...(And I can poop now)... I think in my case, it was probably very hormonally related (although I don't know how, but it certainly seems to be).
As far as yogurt goes though. I prefer Fage Total 0% greek yogurt now. It can be really hard for me to get the protein I need from meats while I'm trying to eat fewer than 7g of fat per meal, so greek yogurts become my go to protein source when hubby wants a burger, or when no one else is hungry, or I just don't feel like cooking, or all the dishes are dirty.....whatever.0 -

Yes!! I changed to greek yogurt as well... I like activia but the creamier the yogurt the better for me so greek is better. I also love the protien in it..... i figure I can get some kind of probiotic pill or something & then use my yogurt for protien more than probiotic.0 -
I take multibionta probiotic vitamin tablet daily, the probiotics actually make it into your gut, the ones in yoghurt drinks get destroyed by stomach acids (so I've read anyhow). I've got crohns disease and am tons healthier with my vitamins.0
