another steak LOL
maybe a nice salad before it's too cold to contemplate salad again?0 -
Salad or Steamed Veggies0

I would skip the potatoes and peas altogether. How about slicing up some green/red/yellow pepper and onion, saute them and serve "fahita style" next to your steak? You could have a ton more of this compared to the calories from the potatoe and peas (not to mention a much lower glycemic load).0

Roasted broccoli is terrific with steak! Lightly dress broccoli with olive oil and sea salt, then bake until bright green and has the desired tenderness.0

I usually have roasted red baby potatoes sliced in half with a mist of olive oil spray and seasoned with garlic, and rosemary with a little sea salt for seasoning...very yummy...and a small salad or mixed steamed veggies...it's a hearty dinner when I can afford the calories..or on my cheat day. I am having it tonight actually!0

Steamed broccoli with a little Ms. Dash seasoning...0

Not sure if you like mushrooms, but if you do, saute them in garlic and just a smidge of olive oil. They taste FANTASTIC on top of a steak!!!0

Think high colors. Cooked baby carrots, a salad with tomatoes, maybe some corn(on the cob or off). Just make sure you make the steak only 1 third of your meal with the rest veggies.0

I've eaten so much peppers, brocoilli and salad this week it's literally coming out of my ears! Feel like i need some sort of carb tonight to fill me up alongside veggies...maybe spinach?0

another steak LOL
I agree with your assessment. Perhaps I will subscribe to your newsletter.0 -

I love the fajita veggie idea. My new obsession is grilled asparagus. Wash and trim the asparagus, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt, and grill for a few minutes. They have a great flavor, are still a bit firm, and great calorie/fat accompaniment to steak. Enjoy!0

Grilled veggies for sure. Yum.0

Try whipped cauliflower, it looks like mashed potatoes and taste pretty good. Basically you boil cauliflower drain it, puree it in a food processor (or mash it by hand) add a little fat free half n half and season it with salt, pepper, and garlic.0

Totally agree with love of asparagus, except i've had this all week too! Would be nice to have something different.0

Also, from replies i'm guessing people are basically saying no carbs!?0
-
Quinoa! and grilled veggies maybe yummmmmmm0

Roasted fresh brussel sprouts. Toss them in a little tiny bit of olive oil, some McCormick No Salt Added Mediterranean Perfect Pinch spice, and place them in a 350 oven until just fork tender. So delicious!0

grilled vegetables. Also, if you feel like you need something starchy, baked squash of some kind goes well.0

3 strips of bacon (cut into chunks if you want). Once they are nice and crispy, drop in some asparagus for a minute or so. Yumm!!
Sweet potato is another good idea!
Good luck!0 -
I love steak and salad, to split the difference with the low gi camp I say a baked sweet potato and large salad or grilled veggies. Not a big peas fan....0

Take your unbaked potato, cut it into small cubes or slices, cut up some oinon, green pepper and tomato and cook all of these in a pan, using a spatula to turn over often, with about half a tablespoon of olive oil for canola oil until potatoes are soft and, if you prefer, a little browned. Yummy! one of my favorites. About 120 - 150 calories, depending on the size of the potato ... And don't get carried away with the oil. You can also toss in some season salt for extra flavor.0

It really depends on how your workout is going over the past week. If you have been working out pretty well, I'd say the carbs are fine but if you've been kind of slack on working out then you can always enjoy your steak with whatever you'd like. This week we have company from out of town and yesterday I had a cheeseburger with fries then went to an ice cream shop and had a bowl of ice cream. That morning I did a high impact aerobic class for an hour so I burned a ton of calories before that so I could afford to eat a little(a lot) more. Main thing here is if you decide to eat then eat but don't make that your habit.0

I've exercised 5 times this week....and going tomorrow too...each workout has been 1-2 hours long...surely i can allow myself carbs?0

If you are craving a potato, have it. If I am craving something and try to deny it, I wind up eating the alternative and the thing I was craving in the first place. So bake a potato if you want one and don't got crazy slathering it with butter or sour cream and you'll be ok.0
-
No, never have butter or sour cream on anything anyway! May sound gross but because i like my steak quite rare, i'm happy with the juice of that to go with the potato!0

Eggs
And for a the Carb craving either pancakes or raisin toast.....
I'm a bad influence sorry lol!0 -
My go to sides with steak at home are steamed broccoli and Bush's Grillin beans (the black bean one, can't remember the name). It's my standard 15 minute dinner when I want steak:)0

You know what, people in the US have some really different ways of having steak! I noticed this even when i was on holiday there...people having it for breakfast, with sweet sides etc.. It seems so different here in the UK!0
-
Just an update...going to have fine green beans, spinach, butternut sqaush and delicious risotto filled mushrooms from marks & spencer (UK peeps you know these will be good!).
Wish me luck!!!0
