I know I'm new here. But I'm bothered. I feel like when I post actual questions about health (because I don't have all of them and neither does my doctor) I get a decent amount of views, but no real comments. Or no comments at all.
Why is it all the rants about HCG diets, or taking other supplements get people in a frenzy, or people complaining that they ate too much, or feel bad all get comments, but when people ask for tips or advice, not much is given.
I know the forums are a sounding board. Just frustrated that I've posted a few topics and understand I don't know many people here, but it would still be nice to know that out of 70 people who read my thread with a detailed title, maybe one could give something, anything.

Maybe people quite honestly just don't know the answer. I know it would seem impossible - but sometimes I read a topic and after I read it, I don't have anything to offer (either I don't know or someone else has already said it before me). So, I click the back button and move onto the next topic.0

I agree with that as well.0

Just a stab in the dark...
Its easy to say what you shouldnt do. Its much harder to pin point what you should do. Ive lost 20kgs in 24 weeks and people ask me how Im doing it, or whats my secret. All I can muster up in response is calorie counting and exercising. I dont know what Im doing right, just eating well and exercsing.... I wish I knew the secret and I wish I could tell others, but I have no idea....0 -
Hmm people love internet fights, thats why HCG and such will get all those comments
But sometimes when your questions are very specific not everyone could answer. I saw your one about PCOS and read it, but I couldnt answer even tho I have PCOS. Just because I didnt want to give bad advice0 -
I never really like to answer a serious question as I am not qualified to, most people here enjoy to give an opinion but to answer a specific question, I wonder how many people are qualified to do so0

Makes sense. Just always think that if people are reading it they know something about it?
Plus I did eat too much and its fouled up my mood lol. Thanks guys.0 -
I think people do not answer because they legitimately do not know the answer.
I viewed your post on PCOS - which is not something that I struggle with - but i am interested on how low glycemic (spell checker won't recognize this LOL) foods affect the body.
Hugs! I know this can be super frustrating.
The only person that I know with PCOS got put on metaform (sp?) and it has really helped with ovulation cycles.0 -
#1 rule for mfp = DONT ASK ANYTHING IMPORTANT ON FORUM
books and GOOGLE are my best tools, ive learned so much about our bodys through them.
think of mfp as another social network, and a fitness tool0 -

Like another person said, they may deal with the same thing -- but perhaps they simply don't know the answer to your question? Dealing with the same issues doesn't guarantee the other person knows how to help you with your issue.
I know other people who've had spinal fusion surgery. They've asked me questions and sometimes I just don't know the answer because I've never dealt with an issue they're dealing with or gone through what they're going through. If I saw a post about it, I would open it - but it doesn't mean I'll know how to help them.0 -

Bingo. There's a lot of misinformation flying around on these forums.
For any serious health-related questions, your best bet is to educate yourself about basic chemistry and learn how your body works. Understand the real science behind what's going on with your condition including the most recent research that is being done on it, and you can then start to get a handle on it. Talk to your doctors and keep them updated on your progress. If your doctors aren't willing to answer your questions, find new ones who can. Just remember that an article that is not a piece of peer-reviewed scientific literature is no more than an opinion in and of itself so take it with a grain of salt even if it's written by an "expert."
Good luck to you, nonetheless. One great thing about MFP is how supportive most people are. You will find people who are struggling with the same conditions you are who, although they may not have the answers, can be there to help you when you need it.0 -
Haha this is exactly right! Im a nursing student and right now (well should be, but instead im on these forums!) doing an assignment about the way the internet is changing health. There are billions of websites out there, and these forums cant guarantee the answers are right.0

You mention that you don't have all the answers regarding health (and neither does your doctor). Well we don't either. We are (for the main) not health professionals.
We all joined MFP because we wanted to lose weight. Some joined to use the excellent, free calorie counter. Some also joined because of the support network. Many are happy to share their experience so that it may help others. However we (with perhaps a few exceptions) cannot provide medical advice.
Therefore if you (or anyone else) is seeking specialist medical advice, then I believe you may have come to the wrong place.
Somebody may be able to assist you, but you cannot assume that this is the case, and then be "bothered" when you only receive a few comments.
Having said that, I wish you every success in meeting your goals.0
